Spectrum C olors for Fall/Winter 2018 express our need for individuality, ingenuity and creativity. There is a continued transition away from cyclical trends, and instead a strong focus on self-expressive colors that evade antiquated seasonal structure. As a result, we are seeing some very notable non-traditional choices . These unexpected shades reinvent the seasonal color story and allows for the artistry and originality that moves fashion forward. While mixing and combining unexpected colors can result in a signature style or look, we are also seeing colors for Fall/Winter 2018 similarly impactful standing alone. Moreso than in previous seasons, many of these hues are strong enough in their own right and are being used to make very specific color statements on their own. Combining classicism with colorful expression, in Spectrum this month we picked our top 5 favorite Pantone Fall/Winter 2018 colors.

hefs Gayle Pirie and John Clark’s collective visions weave food, wine, cocktails, film, and art gallery into one harmonious ambiance. In recognition of 15 years of distinctive service and community stewardship, September 18th was proclaimed “Foreign Cinema Day” in San Francisco. As San Francisco’s most enduring dining center since 1999, Foreign Cinema has remained a magical destination for local, national, and international visitors and has been a San Francisco Chronicle “Top 100 Restaurant” for seventeen consecutive years.

John Clark, Co-founder, and his team held their 19th annual party this past September benefiting the San Francisco Women’s Building.

This year, they were joined by their co-host and newest neighbor on the block, Sherwood Design Engineers.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, also called Order of Perpetual Indulgence, is a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality. Early members of the group did not hide their masculine features or facial hair.

The event was a radiant, colorful, multi-level spectacle that featured celebratory food and signature libations from Foreign Cinema, La Cocina, and Mission Boricua.

The very lively interactive entertainment and live performances featured the Velocity Circus, the Extra Action Marching Band, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and more from the local arts community. The Extra Action marching band concluded the event with the most spectacular display of street music resembling a carnival and nearly caused the shut-down of Mission Street that Thursday evening when locals joined in on the festivities. It was a true celebration of the diverse and multi-cultural experience that is San Francisco. I am intrigued to think of how they will top this inauguration with their

The migrations of 10 frequent-flyer flamingos are being tracked by satellite as part of a celebration of UAE wetlands conservation. The Abu Dhabi Birdathon will count the air miles racked up by the flying squad to help better understand their migration patterns and raise awareness about the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, the place from which they are setting off. There are about 3,000 flamingos at the reserve, and the sea of pink is likely to increase when the migration season reaches its peak. They begin to migrate to the area from August and settle there until mid-February.

Rafflesia Arnoldii This rare flower is found in the rainforests of Indonesia. It can grow to be three feet across and weigh up to 15 pounds! It is a parasitic plant with no visible leaves, roots, or stem.

When in bloom, the Rafflesia emits a repulsive odor, similar to that of rotting meat. This odor attracts insects that pollinate the plant.

The world’s second-tallest freestanding structure, standing at 1,815.3 ft of concrete, is a communications and observation tower located in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Its name, “CN,” originally referred to Canadian National, the railway company that built the tower.

The history of these carrots can be traced back to Rome and Central Asia where they were grown as early as the 10th century. Purple carrots, still orange on the inside, are mainly grown today in Britain and Central Asia.

These majestically beautiful creatures are a rare species of the peacock. White peacocks are not albinos; they have a genetic mutation that is known as Leucism, which causes a lack of pigments in the plumage.

Physalis alkekengi, commonly known as a Chinese Lantern, is a European perennial garden plant often grown for its autumn fruit and colorful orange pods, and it is frequently used in flower arrangements in the fall. The pods, or calyces, which surround the fruit change from green to a brilliant red-orange color when they are ripe. If left on the plant, the can become skeletonized.

Rat lung worm or Angiostrongylus cantonensis is a parasite that mainly lives in rodents such as rats, but can infect snails and slugs that come into contact with infected rat feces. People can be infected when they eat an infected snail or slug.

Red bananas, also known as Red Dacca bananas in Australia, are a variety of banana with reddish-purple skin.

They are smaller and plumper than the common Cavendish banana. When ripe, raw red bananas have a flesh that is cream to light pink in color.
