Steam Camps

Challenge Island is an award-winning STEAM enrichment program where kids work together in tribes to solve fun, hands-on “challenges” which teach them about STEAM fundamentals, crosscurricular topics, plus important success skills like creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and much more. Each of our summer camps are packed with activities and learning, and include lots of positive reinforcement and social interaction in a safe setting. Race Across the Rainforest STEAM Camp

Race into an unforgettable journey through the amazing Amazon Rainforest with Challenge Island book characters Daniel, Joy, Kimani and DaVinci. You and your STEAM Team will zip through the jungle’s action-packed layers, taking on challenges inspired by the rainforest’s awesome animal inhabitants: from the playful monkeys to the hungry jaguars to the slithering anacondas on the dark and creepy forest floor. We’ll also read The Race Across Anaconda Swamp together each day, and each child will receive a copy of the book, including bonus activities to continue the adventure at home. You get to learn powerful techniques for protecting yourself and your loved ones, while also getting stronger, more flexible, and more coordinated. Are you ready to empower yourself and become stronger, more confident, and better equipped to protect yourself and others? Then it’s time to join a self-defense program!

Self Defense for Children

If someone wants to hurt our children, they won’t choose a time or a place with witnesses. That means no parents, no teachers, no policemen, just our children and the predator. The safety of our children will depend on their ability to recognize a threat and respond effectively. This fun, interactive and age appropriate workshop teaches essential, lifesaving information about the threats facing our children, strategies for prevention and real-world techniques designed to reduce their risk of abductions, assaults and other forms of violence. But most of all, these programs teach students that they have the right to be safe, that no one has the right to hurt them and that their life is worth protecting. Self Defense for Women

Self Defense and Safety Camp for Kids

Kids, have fun and learn to be safe at the same time! Learn real self-defense and practice on an instructor wearing a padded suit. You’ll also learn fire safety, how to use 911, stranger awareness, drug resistance, gun accident prevention and more. Cartoons, art, physical practice and classroom games are just some of the fun ways that you will learn in this camp. Parents, nothing is more important to us than our children. This camp is more than just a week of fun, it is an investment into a lifetime of safety. Kids will need daily lunch, snacks, water bottle, bag for activities sheets and handouts. Piano Class

The Simply Music piano method will get you playing great sounding music from your very first lessons! It is a playing-based (as opposed to reading-based) method that puts the emphasis on playing. Drum Circle Class

Drum circles are not just about drumming. They are so much more. They are an effective tool for health and wellness and a breath of fresh air in our fragmented stressed out world. Research is pouring out pointing to Therapeutic Drum Circles as a powerful option for stress reduction and that is good news given that stress is the precursor for mental and physical illness. They are also a great tool in cooperative team-building and community. But, above all, it’s a lot of fun! Anyone can participate. Caricature Workshop

Is your child ready to learn to sketch cartoon faces quickly? Artist Andrew Sigman breaks down the process, making it fun and easy. Before class begins, he will do a souvenir drawing of each participant. Next, there will be a short class showing how to visualize the face in a simplified way, what is needed to capture a person’s likeness, and tips so one can make fast decisions. The remainder of time will be spent putting this new knowledge into practice, with participants drawing as many caricatures as they can with supportive and helpful critiques. Kids will leave with increased knowledge about drawing, a caricature of themselves, and the caricatures they created on cardstock and in plastic sleeves. All material will be provided.

Calling all creative kids! This is the perfect camp to hone both your artistic side and your puzzle solving skills. Just like on the popular TV show Nailed It! we’ll show you a final product and give you all the goods needed to recreate it. The rest is up to you! Your challenges will include creating a unicorn cake sculpture that looks good enough to eat, painting a fox at sunset, a llama with a flower crown, and so much more. Intro to Voice- Over Class

In what could be the most enlightening ONLINE class you’ve ever taken, our instructor and professional voice coach will show you how you can actually begin using your speaking voice for commercials, films, videos, and more. Most people go about it the wrong way. In this introductory class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to break into this creative, fulfilling, and potentially lucrative industry.
