If you haven’t been to RARA lately you should stop in and check us out. We have been quite busy improving the community center @500 E. 2nd St. and we have a lot more planned for 2023-2025! Here are a few highlights of what we have done and what is to come:
2023
• Security system upgrades completed in January of 2023
• New classroom added in May of 2023
• Push button door openers installed on the entrance and bathrooms May of 2023
• Lobby remodel and wayfinding finished in May of 2023
• New water purification system and drinking fountains installed in July of 2023
• 2 new bounces houses purchased for parties
• Nerf barriers and equipment purchased for special events
• Wright room upgraded with projection screen and sound system for classes, parties, and events
• Air handling unit for heat and air conditioning installed in the Fieldhouse, Fall of 2023
• Front entrance awnings and lighting installation scheduled for Fall of 2023
• New RARA website as of August 2023 with multi-language and ADA compliant functions

As the community provider for recreation our goal is to offer opportunities for all. In 2023, we have added a 1% fee to all transactions to help build our scholarship fund. This will allow us to set aside approximately $15,000 per year to help at minimum 130 community members who are experiencing hardship participate in activities we offer. On behalf of RARA and the community we serve, these funds provide much more than monetary subsidy. They are the foundation that builds community and creates memories that span a lifetime. The RARA Board is a policy making board comprised of 7 members, representing the governmental agencies that established our interlocal agreement, and individuals from each of the communities in which we serve.
The board meets on the third Wednesday of each month, 5:00PM at the RARA offices, 500 E Second St. Rochester, MI 48307.
Meeting/agenda minutes are available on our website at www.rararecreation.org and are updated monthly.
This landmark civil rights act went into effect in 1992. It is a significant step forward to make our society’s services and opportunities fully available to all Americans by combating barriers and prejudices that confront those of us with disabilities.
RARA is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of this legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to participate and enjoy our programs should contact our staff at least two weeks in advance of registration to discuss any necessary accommodations or concerns. Persons with disabilities are invited to participate in all programs offered through RARA. We hope that with our assistance, you will be able to create lifelong memories in our community.
Resident/Non-Resident:
To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester. Please see the map for what is considered “resident” for RARA’s purposes.
Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. Non Residents pay an additional 20%, capped at $20 per program in addition to the resident rate.
Notice to Participants:
Participants must recognize that all activities of a physical nature involve some risk, and by registering for a class/activity of this nature there is an assumption of risk by the participants. RARA is dedicated to providing safe equipment as well as qualified staff for all participants. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of RARA to:
Contact emergency medical services to perform first aid, and when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to the hospital. Reach the parent/guardian/emergency contact as soon as the situation allows.
Cancellation of Activities: RARA activities at community schools are canceled when school activities are canceled. Activities at 500E 2nd St along with other offsite locations will continue as scheduled unless otherwise posted. In addition, cancellation of programs will be determined by program supervisors as seen fit.

For children aged 4-6, the Tiger Cub's Tae Kwon Do program offers a perfect introduction to the dynamic world of Tae Kwon Do. Classes take place every Monday and Wednesday, with a slightly relaxed schedule in December to accommodate the holidays.
Immerse yourself in the world of Judo! For our younger enthusiasts (ages 3-6), the early autumn evenings present an opportunity to explore this noble art every Tuesday and Thursday. If you're a tad older (ages 6-12), join our Youth Judo classes that follow the children's session. Bring out your little one’s inner soccer star in our Academy for ages 3-4. These classes blend learning fundamentals like dribbling and passing that bring the sport to life. Kids gain coordination, listening skills, and sportsmanship while having a blast each week. Mini scrimmages let them put new talents into action with encouragement from coaches and parent involvement. Red Ball - Emphasis on technique, hand-eye coordination and fun. Low compression red balls and mini nets help players succeed. *If you feel your 6 year old is ready to be in a group setting for one hour and can follow group instruction, you may register.
Orange Ball - A continuation of Red Ball, players work to refine their strokes. Low compression orange balls are used.
Teen Beginner - A class designed especially for teens and preteens who are new to the game of tennis and want to learn to play tennis. Players will advance to Green Dot, Junior Excellence or High School training, based on age and level of play.
Green Dot Ball - Players are beginning to rally the ball successfully. Green Dot balls are used, transitioning into regulation balls. This class is the next step from Teen Beginner and/or Orange Ball.
Junior Excellence - Players with lesson experience, who can rally the ball, that are striving for excellence and increased match play. This is an appropriate class for Middle School team players.
High School Varsity Training- Aspiring tournament players and High School Varsity and JV team players. Match Play is front and center, with live ball drills and on-court coaching.
Adult Beginner - Adults 17+ who have never played tennis, or have been away from the sport for an extended time.
Adult Adv. Beginner - Adults 17+ / NTRP 2.5 -3.0 players.

In the transitional years between early childhood and elementary school, children can explore different dance styles in our pre-beginner classes. Our Pre Ballet/Jazz, Pre Ballet/Tap, and Pre Jazz/Tap classes combine foundational techniques from each style, giving our young dancers the chance to discover their preferred style and to develop their agility, grace, and rhythm in a fun, welcoming environment.
For our young dancers, we have a range of classes that focus on introducing the fundamental techniques of specific dance styles. Whether it's the grace of Pre-Ballet, the storytelling movements of Pre-Lyrical, the energetic beats of Pre-Jazz and Pre-Hip Hop, or the rhythmic footwork of Pre-Tap, these classes provide a fantastic starting point for any budding dancer.

For those with a love for the spotlight, our Adaptive Dance Recital Class is a must. This class provides an exhilarating journey from learning choreography to performing on the stage. If you're in K-5 or have a child aged 2-4 years, our Adaptive Dance Class for K-5 and Adaptive Dance with Me respectively offer younger participants the chance to explore the world of dance in a fun, supportive environment.
Join us as we delve into the wonderful world of theatre. Students will study singing, acting, and dancing through fun activities and games. At the end of our six weeks together, they will perform a showcase for family and friends that they themselves wrote.
These programs are about more than just keeping fit; they're about celebrating the joy of movement, the thrill of performance, and the benefits of physical activity in a fun, inclusive setting. So put on your dancing shoes, bring your yoga mat, and let's make this fall a season of energy and expression!
