FROM THE DIRECTOR
David Word CYSA, CPRP Executive Recreation Director Dave@rararecreation.orgHey there, RARA Families!
Inquisitive Compassionate
Inclusive Adventurous
Guess what? We’re about to dive headfirst into the second season of 2024, and we couldn’t be more excited to soak up some sunshine and get back to our favorite outdoor adventures! Our awesome team has been pulling out all the stops to whip up a Spring and Summer schedule that’s bursting at the seams with fun. Seriously, get ready for a wild ride!
Can you believe it? In just the first three months of the year, we had over 3,000 of you wonderful folks sign up for our activities. And now, hold onto your hats because we’re gearing up for the most epic summer camps EVER! Think jaw-dropping trips and experiences that’ll make your head spin!
But wait, there’s more! This summer, Borden Park is the place to be for all things Pickleball – we’ve got lessons, leagues, and tournaments galore! And let’s not forget about the classics like Tons of Trucks and the Earth Day 5K making their triumphant return. Plus, we’re adding some fresh new events to the mix, like a New Mom’s Night Out and the grand launch of the RARA Flea Market. Get hyped, people!
Here’s the deal: We’re all about making sure EVERYONE gets a chance to join in on the fun. Our scholarship fund is here to make that happen, with a cool $13,000 up for grabs. Last year alone, we helped out 12 families with scholarships, and we’re ready to do it all over again! So, if money’s tight and you’re worried about missing out, don’t sweat it – just reach out. Because playing is for EVERYONE!
So, let’s raise a toast to warm weather, building community through play, and making memories that’ll have us smiling for years to come.
Catch you in the months to come as the leaves and grass turn green!

REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
GIFT OF PLAY: I PLAY @ RARA SCHOLARSHIP FUND
As the community provider for recreation our goal is to offer opportunities for all. In 2023, we have added a 1% fee to all transactions to help build our scholarship fund. This will allow us to set aside approximately $15,000 per year to help community members who are experiencing hardship participate in activities we offer.
On behalf of RARA and the community we serve, these funds provide much more than monetary subsidy. They are the foundation that builds community and creates memories that span a lifetime.
We sincerely thank you for this investment in equity and inclusion for all of the residents of Rochester and Rochester Hills.

MEET OUR RECREATION COORDINATOR: SPORTS, EVENTS, ACTIVITIES Jake Kroening
A little bit about Jake,
I’m from Rochester, MI and have a huge passion for sports. Whether it’s watching or playing, it’s definitely a hobby of mine. I enjoy being active and am a very social person, but also like to have quiet days as well binging movies and watching TV shows!
Before I started working at RARA, I worked in ticket sales for the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings. I choose a career in recreation because I love being involved in the community and creating fun programs for kids.
What I love about working in sports, events and activities is that I now get to create and run these programs that I got to participate in when I was growing up! It’s a great feeling to see kids excited about the programs they are participating in.
Fun Fact about Jake:
I stream video games on Twitch and have Green Bay Packers season tickets!

LATCHKEY 4-13
Latchkey (before/after camp care) is an unstructured, camp staff supervised, optional service. Our Latchkey format is a flat fee per week of camp you register for. Latchkey’s flat fee depends on how many days the camp is (5 day or 3 day). You will need to purchase Latchkey for each camper attending Latchkey. There is a 15 minute grace period for camp without needing to purchase Latchkey so you have 15 minutes before camp and 15 minutes after camp to drop off and pick up your children.

MEET OUR DAY CAMP SUPERVISOR
A little bit about Lindsey,
I have been with RARA Day Camps since 2018, and it has been the best way to spend my summers! I started as a counselor, then directed a Specialty camp, and this summer will be my 3rd summer as Supervisor. When I am not at RARA, I teach elementary school. Outside of work I love spending time with my husband and dog, being outside, and cooking.
Before RARA I was in college, and had a hard time finding full-time summer jobs that gave me experience working with elementary aged kids in a fun environment. As a teacher I know how important summers are for kids to relax, discover new hobbies, and have fun! Being a part of the Day Camp Staff allows us to offer kids a safe place to have fun and connect other kids their age.
Being a part of the Day Camp Staff has allowed me to have a fun summer job while adding to my toolbox of skills and experiences that I can bring into my classroom. I love hearing the parents talk about the fun activities their children do each day. My favorite is seeing the campers go home with a big smile and excited to come back the next day. It is also rewarding to see up and coming educators who use Day Camps as a stepping stone to get experience working with children.
Fun Fact about Lindsey:
I trained in Martial Arts for 15 years and have my Second-Degree Black Belt in Karate.
