What an incredible year we’ve had together in 2024! Over 10,000 participants joined us at RARA this year, each adding their own story to a year filled with growth, joy, and connection. We saw 2,250 campers trying new adventures, 4,200 athletes giving it their all, 1,250 special needs participants finding joy and community, and 650 discovering their passions through art, cooking, music, and more. And let’s not forget the families who came together at our events, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

As we turn the page to 2025, there’s so much to look forward to—a year filled with possibility and hope. We’re planning more of everything you love: more camps to spark curiosity, more sports to keep the energy flowing, more creative activities to inspire, and more events to bring us all together. It’s all about creating new opportunities to connect, meet new people, and make this community an even better place to call home.

The RARA Board is a policy making board comprised of 7 members, representing the governmental agencies that established our interlocal agreement, and individuals from each of the communities in which we serve.

The board meets on the third Tuesday of each month. 5:00pm at the RARA offices. 500 E Second St. Rochester, MI 48307.

Meeting agendas and minutes are available on our website at www.rararecreation.org and are updated monthly.

This landmark civil rights act went into effect in 1992. It is a significant step forward to make our society’s services and opportunities fully available to all Americans by comabting barriers and prejudices that confront those of us with disabilities.

RARA is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of this legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to participate and enjoy our programs should contact our staff at least two weeks in advance of registration to discuss any necessary accomodations or concerns.

Registration

Resident / Non-Resident

To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester.

Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. Non Residents pay an additional 20%, capped at $20 per program in addition to the resident rate.

Notice to Participants

Participants must recognize that all activities of a physical nature involve some risk, and by registering for a class/activity of this nature there is an assumption of risk by the participants. RARA is dedicated to providing safe equipment as well as qualified staff for all participants. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of RARA to:

Contact emergency medical services to perform first aid, and when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to the hospital. Reach the parent/guardian/emergency contact as soon as the situation allows.

Cancellation of Activities

RARA activities at community schools are canceled when school activities are canceled. Activities at 500 E 2nd St along with other offsite locations will continue as scheduled unless otherwise posted.

In addition, cancellation of programs will be determined by program supervisors as seen fit. Cancellations will be posted at: www.rararecreation.org, Facebook/Instagram (@RARArecreation), and for some programs, registered participants will be notified via email.

Red Ball 7 10 years (*6 year olds may be eligible, if they can work in a group setting and follow instructions for a one hour class) Introduction to tennis with low compression balls.

Orange Ball 8 11 years A continuation of Red Ball, players work to refine their strokes. Low compression orange balls are used.

Teen Beginner 12 16 Teens who are new to the game and want to learn to play tennis.

Green Dot Ball 10 13 Players begin to rally the ball. This class is the next step from Teen Beginner and/or Orange Ball.

Junior Excellence 11 14 Players with lesson experience, who can rally the ball and have learned all basic strokes. This is an appropriate class for Middle School team players.

High School Varsity Training 14 18 Aspiring tournament players and High School Varsity and JV team players. Match Play is front and center, with live ball drills and on court coaching.

Mom to Mom Sales are a great place to sell your children’s outgrown and gently used items to other moms and dads. This is a great place for new moms to find maternity wear, baby carriers, baby gear, cribs, bouncers, and much more! For seasoned moms, this sale is a great way to keep up with your growing children’s clothing, toys, and furniture needs.
