• The types of cutters we produce are called annular cutters. Cutters Annular Cutters • Why use annular cutters instead of conventional twist drills? • Because the annular cutter only cuts the outside diameter of the hole rather than the whole diameter. It uses less energy and thus becomes more efficient increasing the life of the machine and the cutter when compared to the conventional twist drill. Cutter Common Terms 1 1 Teeth - Refers to the cutting point. 2 2 Taper - This is the internal clearance for the slug. Normally approx. 10mm and increases in diameter. 3 Flute - This is the recess in the cutter which allows the swarf to be ejected. 4 Land - This is the outside face of the cutter. It has an exponentially reduced diameter from the teeth to the end of the cutter. 3 4 Pilot - Bar that runs through the cutter with a point on the end. Used to provide centre point and to eject the slug. Swarf - This is the waste material that has been cut. Slug - After the cutter has performed the cut it has only cut the outside diameter of the hole. Thus the internal is left inside the cutter. Which Cutter is Right for You?
