FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I pay with a credit card at the meter?
Insert credit card fully into the card slot and remove right away. The meter reads the card's magnetic strip. Once the card is successfully read, a screen will appear allowing you to adjust your parking time. Set your desired time, then press the "OK" button to confirm. Where can I park my extended-cab vehicle or camper?
Vehicles must fit between the white lines and must not extend into the lane of travel. The parking spaces on Main and Saint Joseph streets are not large enough for some extended-cab vehicles to fully fit in the space. The parking spaces on 6th, 7th, and 9th streets can accommodate large pickups or SUVs. Larger recreational vehicles, campers, or vehicles with trailers can park in the parking lot by the Rapid City Skate Park on New York Street. Where is the free parking?
Free, unmonitored parking is located on the peripheral of the two-hour parking areas. Look at the Guide to Downtown Parking map to find unmarked blocks. How do I know if my meter is expired?
An expired meter will have an instructional message on meter hours and payment options on the display, and the indicator light will flash red. A meter with time on it will display the amount of time left on the meter, and the indicator light will flash green. How do you know if I stay over two hours in a two-hour zone?
