Kære elever Nu sidder du med Yearbook 2023-24 og kan bladre i mere end 800 sider med oplevelser og minder fra dit efterskoleår. Vi håber at Yearbook vil være med til at fastholde dine minder og oplevelser med dine venner på de 3 store rejser, ekskursioner, events og i hverdagens efterskoleliv. Læg den på dit bord, lad andre bladre i bogen og fortæl om dine oplevelser, dine venner og om ideen med Ranum Efterskole College. Året har budt på en ekstrem mangfoldighed af aktiviteter, som mange af jer har været med til at tage initiativ til nye fag, aktiviteter og Profilfag. Og været med til at forme dem ud fra jeres interesser. Det er den helt unikke frihed og tillid vi bygger på, og det er den frihed, som vi vokser af. I har oplevet at knytte tætte relationer i elevflokken og bevæget jer mellem forskellige vennegrupper. Nye venskaber er dannet med dine valg af valgfag, Profil- og Kulturfag. Hvert møde og venskab har forhåbentlig gjort dig lidt mere afklaret om, hvem du selv er og vil være som person. I er alle med på det store Jubilæums gavlbillede over festsalen som et symbol på, at I alle har været en del af Ranum Efterskole College og at I alle har holdt en del af hinandens liv, lykke og glæde i jeres hænder. Regnbuen af mangfoldighed og muligheden for at danne dig selv i små og store fællesskaber, er det vi kalder for Togetherness. I er det elevhold 20 og Jubilæumsårgangen, som vi aldrig vil glemme. Dear Students You are now holding the Yearbook for the school year 2023-24 and can flip through more than 800 pages of experiences and memories from your efterskole year. We hope that the Yearbook will help preserve your memories and experiences with your friends on the 3 big trips, excursions, events and in everyday efterskole life. Put it on your table, let others look through the book and share your experiences with your friends and the idea of Ranum Efterskole College. This year has offered an diversity of activities, and many of you have been involved in initiating new subjects, activities and profile subjects. And helped shape them based on your interests. This is the unique freedom and trust we are built on, and it is this freedom that we grow from. You have experienced forging close relationships within the student body and moving between different groups of friends. New friendships have been formed with your choice of electives, profile and cultural subjects. Each meeting and friendship has hopefully made you a little clearer about who you are and who you want to be as a person. You are all featured in the large anniversary gable image above the banqueting hall as a symbol that you have all been a part of Ranum Efterskole College and that you have all held a part of each other’s lives, happiness and joy in your hands. The rainbow of diversity and the opportunity to form yourself in small and large communities is what we call Togetherness. You are the Class of 20 and the Jubilee Class that we will never forget. FIR S T DAY OF S CHOOL

Velkommen til efterskolelivet: Første “skoledag” Dagen startede ud med en mindeværdig velkomstsamling på plænen foran hovedbygningen, hvor der blev budt velkommen til familier og nye elever. Vi indledte årets første dag med at synge ‘Livstræet’ og forberede hele årgang 20 på at “lege i livstræets krone”. Eleverne flyttede efterfølgende ind i deres huse og mødte hinanden for første gang. Kufferterne blev pakket ud og familierne blev krammet og kysset farvel. Welcome to the new school year! The day started with a memorable welcome assembly on the lawn in front of the main building, greeting families and the new students. We began the first day of the year by singing ‘The Tree of Life’, preparing the entire 20th class to “play in the crown of the tree of life”. The students then moved into their houses and met each other for the first time. Suitcases were unpacked and families hugged and kissed goodbye.

Første skoledag startede ud med en mindeværdig velkomstsamling på plænen foran hovedbygningen, hvor der blev budt velkommen til familier og nye elever. Eleverne flyttede efterfølgende ind i deres huse og mødte hinanden for første gang. Så blev kufferterne pakket ud og familierne krammet og kysset farvel.

The first day of school started with a memorable welcome assembly on the lawn in front of the main building, welcoming families and new students. We began the first day of the year by singing 'The Tree of Life' and preparing the entire year 20 class to 'play in the crown of the tree of life', which can be seen in our schoolyard (and logo). The students then moved into their houses and met each other for the first time. Then the suitcases were unpacked and the families hugged and kissed goodbye.

En fantastisk første skoledag afsluttes med fælles kom-sammen aktiviteter i multihallen, hvor der bliver formet statuer af hinandens kroppe og skoleårets første “The Train of Love” bliver dannet. A fantastic first day of school ends with joint gettogether activities in the multi-purpose hall, where statues of each other's bodies are moulded and the first "The Train of Love" of the school year is formed.

Tour Ranum studenst take their curiosity and creative spirit with them on this ranum fthemed easter egg hunt which sends them many unexspected places around the town. The students had to challenge and put to test different questions to find the true answer including what is the heaviest weight in ranum efterskole _

Ranum To mark the end and completion of their journey they found themselves at Vilsted Sø, where they needed to do the most creative pose they could think of in celebration of the lake and in the spirit of unity. These are just a few of the many fun and humoristic poses the students chose to do today by Vilsted Sø.

Vi indledte ugen med Tour De Ranum, hvor bl.a. Vilsted Sø, den lokale Brugsen, Ranum Kirke, og Ranums busstoppesteder blev udforsket. Turen gav diverse praktiske fifs og tricks til livet i Ranum, så eleverne blev fuldt udrustet til livet i “byen i midten”.

We started the week with Tour De Ranum, where Vilsted Lake, the local Brugsen, Ranum Church, and Ranum’s bus stops were explored. The tour provided various practical tips and tricks about life in Ranum, equipping the students for a year living in the “city in the centre”.

Eleverne fik trænet kroppene op til det traditionelle Vilsted Sø Løb, så vi fandt vi løbeskoene frem og sat håret op til en omgang fælles træning ude på plænen. Her talte vi ned til Vilsted Sø Løb, der blev afsluttet med en hyggelig familiedag fuldaf aktiviteter med alt fra madlavning og brætsspilhygge til Mountainbiking og sejlads.

The students warmed up for the traditional Vilsted Sø Løb on the lawn before running the 4,6km route around the lake. We then began the count down to Vilsted Sø Løb, an event that ended with a cosy family day of activities ranging from cooking and board games to mountain biking and sailing.

Udover at blive fuldt udrustet til livet i Ranum, introducerede vi alle eleverne til nabobyen med Tour de Rønbjerg. Her stod dagen langt fra stille, da de glade smil og nye venskaber fyldte gaderne ud med aktivteter som bl.a. mini-golf, obstacle course, gruppebilleder på hoppeborg – og ikke mindst den traditionelle svømmetest. Denne forberedte de af eleverne, som har valgt vandsport, på at komme ud i alverdens oceaner.

In addition to getting fully equipped for life in Ranum, we introduced all students to the neighbouring town with Tour de Rønbjerg. The day was packed with activities such as mini golf, obstacle course, group photos on a bouncy castle - not to mention the traditional swimming test. This prepared the students who had chosen water sports activities to take on the oceans and lakes of the world.

Other than the mandatory activities, there was a lot of optional ones, this photo isn’t an activity but everyone insisted on stacking rocks anyway

The trip to and from Rønbjerg was done one of two ways, half of the groups walked to Rønbjerg while the others took a bus, then they switched on the way back

FA RV E FE S T / COL O U R PA R T Y Hvert år finder eleverne på Ranum Efterskole College deres mest farverige tøj frem til det ikoniske Colour Party. Hver enkelte kontaktgruppe får tildelt en individuel farve, som de både iklæder sig og pynter borde med. Mangfoldigheden stråler!

Every year, the students at Ranum Efterskole College bring out their most colourful clothes for the iconic Colour Party. Each contact group was assigned an individual colour, which they dressed up in and decorated their tables with. Diversity shines!

Det traditionelle Colour Party lagde stærkt ud med fotografering af kontaktgrupperne, mens eleverne kunne trække på smilebåndet over hinandens tøjvalg. Derefter rykkede festen til hallen, hvor der ventede lækker middag og underholdning.

The traditional Colour Party started off strong with a photo shoot of the contact groups, while students admired the different fashion choices. Then the party moved to the hall, where a delicious dinner and entertainment awaited.

Festen bød desuden på farverigt ansigtsmaling og disco rundt om livstræet i skolegården.

The party also included colourful face painting and disco around the tree of life in the schoolyard.

Vi er en skole i tiden, og vores aktiviteter skal give mening for både lærere og elever, så vi får et stærkt fællesskab. Profilfagene udgør stærke interessefællesskaber, som bringer forskellige elever og voksne sammen om en udviklingsproces som er helt unik. Vi oplever, at det vejledende fællesskab, der opstår i mellem elever og voksne på rejsen er det ultimative læringsrum, som for alvor giver eleverne mod og lyst til at tage roret selv videre i livet.

We are a school of the times, and our activities must make sense for both teachers and students, so that we have a strong community. The profile subjects form strong communities of interest, which bring different students and adults together for a development process that is completely unique. We find that the guiding community that arises in students and adults on the journey is the ultimate learning space, which gives students the courage and desire to take the helm themselves in life.

HOUSE 2023 The house cup of 2023 took place on a particularly good day where the sun shined clear and bright and eradicated any previouse traces of rain on the sports feild the day before. Excited students waited their turn to make their house, freinds and most importantly themselves proud . The house cup was a fueled competion between� kær,semi,line,præstegaarden and ranum hus . This day included events which needed to be beat such as hot dog eating contest , cake eating contest ,footballmatch and a run for last . Nothing about this day was what you would call a normal day on Ranum and this includes the food! The students where served pizza buns though many had lost their appetite after witnessing any of the given food contests. Some teams weren't complete for thegames but Ranum never leaves a match unmet . Freinds voulunteered to help eachother out and have the. chance to win be given back.

When the small communities become stronger, the larger community is also strengthened in the end. After all, it's about joining in and having fun. In the first House Cup ever, it was Ranumhus that could proudly lift the trophy. While this made the intensity blossom quickly between the other houses this did not scare Ranum hus for the incoming tournament. This house cup was a beautiful movement of unity between all the students as everyone was in the audince atleast one point in the day . Everyone was hypnotised by action and spirit of the players on the field, runners on the track, and jumps on the sand .

In conclusion this lively tradition will never end as long as Ranum stands and the students will make sure of this.

Alle elever mødte i Multihallen til den første Kulturfagspræsentation med 24 forskellige Kulturfag. Eleverne blev præsenteret til ideen bag Kulturfag, hvor der er fokus på mødet med andre kulturer og unge fra andre dele af verden. Kulturfagene fører frem til kulturrejsen, som finder sted i slutningen af januar 2024. Stemningen var i top og flere elever foreslog selv ideer til mulige Kulturfag og rejser. Det første Kulturfagsvalg blev afsluttet med beroligende mindfulness, hvor eleverne individuelt fik lov til at tænke alle de mange Kulturfagsvalg igennem. All students met in the Multihallen for the first Cultural Subject Presentation with 24 different Cultural Subjects. The students were introduced to the idea behind the cultural subjects, all of which focus on meeting other cultures and young people from other parts of the world. The culture subject teaching led up to the cultural journey, which took place at the end of January 2024. The atmosphere was great and several students suggested ideas for possible cultural subjects and journeys. The first Cultural Subject Choice concluded with calming mindfulness, where students were individually allowed to think through all the many Cultural Subject Choices.

Efterskoleårets første vandsportsweekend var en stor succes, hvor rigtig mange elever deltog. Eleverne prøvede kræfter medm aktiviteter som sejlads, prøvedyk, wakebord, surf, kano,

vildmarksbad og sauna, samt en tur i Rønbjergs Aquapark. Bølgen blå blev i den grad udforsket fuldt ud, mens hyggen spredte sig både til lands og til vands.

The first water sports weekend of the autumn term was a great success, with many students participating. Activities such as sailing, trial dives, wakeboarding, surfing, canoeing, wilderness

bathing and sauna, as well as a trip to Rønbjerg’s Aquapark, were tried out by the students. The blue waves were ridden to their fullest extent, while the fun spread both on land and in the water.

Kontaktlærer-elev forholdet på en efterskole er helt specielt. Kontaktlæreren er oftest den person, som står eleverne nærmest, og er dermed den person som de går til, hvis de har noget, de har behov for at snakke om. Vi afholder derfor Hjemmehos, hvor eleverne i deres kontaktgrupper besøger deres kontaktlærer. Det er en hyggelig tradition der skaber sammenhold og tætte venskaber på tværs gennem madlavning og sjove udendørs aktiviteter.

The contact teacher-student relationship at an efterskole is very special. The contact teacher is usually the person closest to his or her students, and is therefore the person they go to if they have something they need to talk about. That’s why we organise Hjemmehos; where students, in their contact groups, visit their contact teacher. It’s a cosy tradition that builds unity and close friendships while they preparing food and fun outdoor activities.

Til Diversity Evening i Aalborg Zoo benyttede 54 elever lejligheden til at hænge ud, mingle, og lærre hinanden bedre at kende på tværs af deres forskellige nationaliteter.

Diversity Evening at Aalborg Zoo was an event where 54 students took the opportunity to hang out, mingle and get to know each other better across their different nationalities.

140 elever fra Ranum Efterskole College har været ude at springe i faldskærm! De hoppede Tandemspring hos Dropzone i Herning fra tidlig morgen til sen aften. Tandemspringet blev beskrevet som “en oplevelse for livet,” hvor luften var fyldt ud med nervøsitet, spænding, og lettede smil. Eleverne var fastmonteret til en professionel faldskærmudspringer og sprang frit fald ud af et fly fra 4,5 km højde. Det var en ny Danmarksrekord på flest tandemspring på en dag. Godt gået! 140 students from Ranum Efterskole College have been skydiving! They jumped tandem skydiving at Dropzone in Herning from early morning to late evening. The tandem jump was described as “an experience of a lifetime,” where the air was filled with nervousness, excitement, and smiles of relief. The students were attached to a professional parachutist and jumped freefall out of an aeroplane from a height of 4.5 km. It was a new Danish record for the most tandem jumps in one day. Well done!

Ugevis af træning på plænen foran hovedbygningen samt mange løbeturer rundt om Ranum gav endelig pote, da dagen med Vilsted Sø Løb kom. En dag hvor alle var aktive og deltog på gå- og løberuter sammen med familie og venner.

Weeks of training on the lawn in front of the main building and many runs around Ranum finally paid off when the day of Vilsted Sø Løb arrived. A day where everyone was active and participated on walking and running routes with family and friends.

Efter løbets afslutning var der præmieoverrækkelse til vindern - alle deltagere modtog en flot medalje om halsen og der blev serveret frokost på torvet af efterskolens køkken. Så godt gået! Mange tak til alle jer der deltog i Vilsted Sø Løb.

At the end of the race, there was a prize ceremony for the winners - all participants received a nice medal around their necks and lunch was served on the square by the efterskole’s kitchen. So well done! Thank you to everyone who participated in Vilsted Sø Løb.

Vilsted Sø Løb ligger lige rundt om hjørnet, så vi finder Vilsted lake run is just around the corner, so we find løbeskoene frem og sætter håret op til en omgang our running shoes and put our hair up for a round of fælles træning ude på plænen. I forlængelse af Vilsted Sø Løb afholdte vi den store Familiedag med mulighed for, at tilbringe endnu mere kvalitetstid med hyggelige aktiviteter. Aktiviteterne var bl.a. bagning, mountainbiking, badminton, klatring, sejlads, brætsspil i caféen, kano, wakeboarding, madlavning, Nerf Battle, samt design af egen t-shirt. Dage som disse vil vi gerne have mange flere af!

In continuation of Vilsted Sø Løb, we organised the big Family Day with the opportunity to spend even more quality time with fun activities. The activities included baking, mountain biking, badminton, climbing, sailing, board games in the café, canoeing, wakeboarding, cooking, Nerf Battle, and designing your own t-shirt. We’d love to have many more days like this!

Full Host eleverne tilbragte deres anden forlængede weekend sammen med et program, som bød på hyggelig vandring i Råbjerg Mile og toppen af Danmark, samt udforskning af Skagens Museum og skagensmalernes fine malerier. Senere på året stod programmet for Full Host bl.a. på en juleferie i Estland, en forlænget weekend til Göteborg, og en skøn tur til København.

The Full Host students spent their second long weekend together, with a programme which included a pleasant hike in Råbjerg Mile and “The top of Denmark,” as well as exploring the fine paintings of the Skagen painters at Skagen Museum. Later on, Full Host’s programme included a Christmas holiday in Estonia, a long weekend in Gothenburg, and a wonderful trip to Copenhagen.

CHINA DENMARK Onsdag aften blomstrede mangfoldigheden sig, da vi i Ranum havde fokus på det internationale liv på skolen, og særligt de internationale elever. Her forberedte elever fra hele 17 forskellige lande bl.a. mad, konkurrencer, danseopvisninger, ansigtsmaling, workshops, og en masse musik i lokalerne på skolen. Vi kom alle tættere på de forskellige nationaliteter og dannede bedre forståelse for verdens forskellige kulturer, når der samtidig var lækkert mad at smage på. Vores internationale studerende, der fik æren af at arrengere International Evening, med hjælp fra deres danske roomies, kom fra Indien, Mexico, Tyrkiet, Tyskland, Holland, USA, Danmark, Thailand, Cambodia, Island, Vietnam, Kina, Letland, Storbritannien, Grønland, Spanien, og Færøerne. Mexico indtog hele Guldhornssalen med dans og chili-smagning, USA hyggede sig i Svederen med rodeotyr, Storbritannien delte ud af engelske slangs, og falg-ansigtsmaling blev lavet af alle landene. Det var en perfekt forberedelse til vores første Profilfagsrejse!

On Wednesday evening, diversity blossomed as we in Ranum focussed on the international life at the school, and especially the international students. Students from 17 different countries prepared food, competitions, dance performances, face painting, workshops, and lots of music in the school premises. We all got closer to the different nationalities and formed better understandings of the world’s different cultures while enjoying delicious food. Our international students, who had the honour of hosting the International Evening with the help of their Danish roomies, came from India, Mexico, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, USA, Denmark, Thailand, Cambodia, Iceland, Vietnam, China, Latvia, United Kingdom, Greenland, Spain, and the Faroe Islands.

Søndag var en af Ranums største dage - nemlig Efterskolernes Dag. Mere end 400 mapper blev delt ud. Endnu mere kaffe og lækkerier. Vi havde allerede oprettet venteliste til 2024-25 inden Efterskolernes Dag, samt ledige pladser i 202526. Familier fra nær og fjern deltog på dagen med både kommende elever for næste år, og andre, som ønskede at udforske skolens faciliteter og de mange spændende linjer vi tilbyder. Vi håber, alle de deltagende blev klogere på, hvem vi er og hvad vi tilbyder. Vores store udbud af Profilfag gave mulighed for at vise nogle skills frem, der blev givet grundige rundvisninger af eleverne, og lækkert mad var serveret på torvet. Sunday was one of Ranum’s biggest days Efterskolernes Dag. More than 400 folders were handed out. Even more coffee and treats. We had already created a waiting list for 2024-25 before Efterskolernes Dag, as well as available places for 2025-26. Families from near and far attended the day with both future students for next year, as well as others to explore the school’s facilities and the many exciting programmes we offer. Our wide range of Profile subjects allowed some students to show off their skills, and tours were given by others - delicious food was also served on the square. Thank you so much for a fantastic Efterskolernes Dag! And a big thank you to all those who helped make the day special. We hope to see you again!

Adventure trodsede blæsten og roede i kano over Vilsted Sø fra Ranum til begyndelsen af Bjørnholm Å. De roede ned ad den smalle å uden om en masse sten, hvilket var udfordrende og sjovt, indtil de kom ind i den rolige danske urskov. Den sidste del af turen var at ro igennem til fjorden, der mødte dem med store bølger for en lille kano. Man kan roligt sige, at alle fik en smagsprøve på vandet fra oven og fra neden!

Adventure braved the wind and canoed across Vilsted Lake from Ranum to the beginning of Bjørnholm River. We rowed down the narrow river avoiding a lot of stones, which was challenging and fun. until we entered the calm Danish primeval forest. The last leg of the trip was to row through to the fjord that met us with big waves for a small canoe. Safe to say we all got a taste of the water from above and below!

I dag har vi arbejdet med “reglerne” for nedkøling af mad. Vi lavede grød (havregryn), målte temperaturen i en 2-timers-periode, og brugte grøden til boller. Vi har også lavet SMUKKE hjemmelavet trifli, hvor vi selv bagte kagen, lavede en vaniljecreme, hindbærsyltetøj, og pyntede kagen med glasur og flødeskum.

Today we worked with the “rules” about cooling food. We made porridge (oats), measured the temperature for a 2 hour-period, and used the porridge for buns. Skills Sailing: hold 1 havde nu sejlet S/Y Roselina fra Skive til Grenå. De anløb ved Hals havn kl. 23 efter en god afslutende sejlads i mørket med mange forskellige ledefyr og storskibe at identificere og navigere imellem. Derefter var de hurtigt igang igen, sà de kunne være i Grenå inden stormen kom. Hold 2 overtog opgaven dagen efter, hvor vi skulle videre sydpå.

SKILLS Sailing: team 1 sailed S/Y Roselina from Skive to Grenå. They arrived at Hals harbour at 11pm after a good final stretch in the dark with several different beacons and tall ships to identify and navigate between. They were quickly underway again in order to arrive in Grenå before a storm came in. Team 2 took over the vessel the next day, where the journey continued southwards.

Sejlads Sailing: hold 2 sejlede fra Tune til Middlefart idag. Frisk vind og mange vendinger. De oplevede en gruppe marsvin og nogle sæler eskortere dem til Middlefart Gl. Havn.

SKILLS Sailing: team 2 sailed from Tune to Middlefart. A lot of fresh wind and many twists and turns later. A group of porpoises and some seals were escorted them from to Middlefart Gl. Harbour.

Skills Sailing hold 3 godt igang. De sejlede 59 sømil pa kryds af lillebælt fra Middlefart til en ankerplads ved Bøjden. KI. 0100 kunne de endelig kom til køjs efter en magisk sejlads i måneskin. Derefter krydser de igen det sydfynsk øhav pa vej mod Svendborg.

SKILLS Sailing team 3 finally got underway. The sailed 59 nautical miles across The Little Belt from Middlefart to an anchorage at Bøjden. At 1am they could finally berth after a magical time sailing in the moonlight. On the final leg the team made their way back to Svendborg.

Den sidste dag var sejlerne i Svendborg, da der var Åben Båd Dag på S/Y Roselina efterfulgte af et inspirerende foredrag fra Lars Åby, som byggede Roselina, samt Karin Steen som også er medejer af Roselina. Foredraget forgik på Danmarks museum for Lystsejlads på Frederiksø. Eleverne vil nu alle gerne ud og udforske verden fra en sejlbåd. Vi forlod Svendborg ved daggry og sejlede Roselina til Middlefart, hvor eleverne afmønstrede.

On the last day, Skills sailors were in the centre of Svendborg as there was an Open Boat Day on S/Y Roselina followed by a very inspiring lecture from Lars Åby, who built Roselina, and Karin Steen, who is also co-owner of Roselina. The lecture took place at the Danish Museum of Pleasure Sailing on Frederiksø. The students now all want to go out and explore the world in a boat. We left Svendborg at dawn and are now sailing Roselina to Middlefart where the students are disembarking.

A DV E N T U RE / C Z ECH RE P U BL IC Adventure har brugt alle deres kræfter med hiking fra Hejnice til Jizera top, 12km vandretur på mere end 1000m højde, hvor der til slut var velfortjent frokost med traditionelle tjekkiske retter til alle. Derudover har eleverne udforsket eventyrlige grotter, cyklet langs floder, og kanotur på Jizera-floden. Sidste dag stod på udfordrende klatning i klatrehallen i Jablonec nad Nisou. Eleverne fik nydt højderne. Adventure put all their energy into hiking from Hejnice to Jizera peak, a 12km hike at an altitude of more than 1000m, finnishing with a well-deserved lunch of traditional Czech dishes. In addition, the students explored adventurous caves, cycling along rivers, and canoeing on the Jizera River. The last day was a challenging climbing day at the climbing centre in Jablonec nad Nisou. The students enjoyed the heights.

2 of October. The cold and humid air rushed in our faces as we stepped foot out of the bus. “Hejnice” 375 meters above the sea and we still had 2 mountaintops to climb. The rain started to drip on our faces as we moved through the town on our way to the forest. Questions started popping up like “Are there any bears” “How high are we going to have to walk” and “When are we going to be there “ As the hike began most of us realized that we were not ready for this challenge. Some were overpacked and some of us had just packed foolish. We traverse through the forest and reach multiple viewpoints and waterfalls. Some of the most beautiful nature you could imagine. As we finally reached our goal people had gone tired and it was obvious that we were going to call that a day. The morning after we began to make our way down the mountain, Lucky for us the weather had improved dramatically. This made our trip way better as the viewpoints were open and with clear a sky. We hiked for quite a while before we reached our goal. At this point, some were exhausted, and some couldn’t wait to get some real food. We ended the day with some cave explorations and then headed for a hotel where we could get some good sleep.

Some people enjoy going for a run or maybe a walk. Some like to play football or workout. This has never been “my cup of tea” because for me it is hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. I was born into a family of outdoorsy people. I had some experience with this kind of subject. I had slept in the woods, made some fires, and learned the complete basics, but nothing could have prepared me for the wonders that were to come on this trip.

the nature we had found ourselves in. It was truly a sight. We continued to follow the route that was given to us. Yet it had the obstacle of not being a bike route instead more or less a hiking one. We took our bikes and walked with them for more or less half the trip through cliffs and tree roots. We finally got out of the forest and right there was a log road, no turns, no intersections. Just a straight long road going down the mountain filled with rocks and trail tracks. This made our blood pump through the body as one little hiccup would throw us so far ahead. But yet we all made it down and laughed about how crazy that trip was. Truly something you should experience once in your lifetime.

A ride to the top Road. Lots of it. Should you turn back or keep going? This is the kind of question some of us had as we the next day started biking up a mountain. Some had turned around and taken an easier valley route. But we continued. The trip was filled with hard forest routes that we had to walk through. But it all paid off when we got to the top and saw the town, we had just biked out of from 400 meters above. That’s not a view we get here in Denmark. When we made it to the top the weather had reached around 18 degrees which made it nice to climb around on the cliffs, take pictures, and enjoy

The Czech rivers As the freezing temperatures of the water started making their way through our body we jumped into our canoes. Up the river and down again, walking on the different ones and switching pairs. We now had a bunch of water fun. After doing the different canoe exercises, we had some different choices to do on this river. White water kayaking, sup board, normal kayaks, and last but the best one, canoeing down a wall of water. As we got on the stretch it felt like ages, we just slid down this wall. As the water hit us, we just started laughing and rowing on our way to shore to do it once again. We did it once more but tipped in the water and got all wet. At this point, some had quit because of the cold water. But we chose to do it again and tipped once more having to walk through the water stream with a canoe filled with water. This was truly an amazing trip challenging our bodies and limits. We helped with UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 13 by making sure to pick up the trash we found and clean up after ourselves on our trip.

Eleverne vandt i alle tre kampe og lærte om teamwork, samt udvidede deres spilforståelse. Turen tilbød en unik smag af Madrids lokale liv og godt vejr. Udover træning og kamp blev det en god og lærerig oplevelse. The basketball team headed for Madrid arriving Saturday evening, with enough time for sightseeing before the first morning practice. Hereafter, the days included training, city exploration, and matches. The students won all three games and learned about teamwork and game understanding. The tour offered a unique taste of Madrid’s local life and good weather. Besides the training and fighting, it was a good and educational experience.

Board Performance har gennem ugen i Lyon ikke blot stået med benene på skateboards i Shaka Skatepark. De har nemlig også øvet teknikker med Windsurf og Wakeboard, hvor fællesskabet var i top, og der blev glædeligt heppet på hinandens præstationer.

During the week in Lyon, Board Performance didn’t just stand on skateboards in Shaka Skatepark. They also practised techniques with windsurfing and wakeboarding, where the community spirit was high and people cheered each other’s performances.

Dans havde en tur fyldt med fantastiske oplevelser og masser af sjov. De tog på sightseeing til mange kulturelle steder, såsom Checkpoint Charlie, The Eastside Gallery, Brandenburger Tor osv. Vi havde spændende danseworkshops med dygtige dansere, hvor vi prøvede K-pop, hip-hop, og contemporary med Trybe-studiet. Vi havde Dinner in the Dark, hvor de spiste i komplet mørke med blinde tjenere. De blev inviteret til at se et særligt show, som var en time med de største 80’er-hits, glitter, og koreografi. Som afslutning på turen, så de til et dragshow, som afsluttede turen på en god måde.

Dance had a trip filled with amazing experiences and lots of fun. They went sightseeing to various cultural places, such as Checkpoint Charlie, The Eastside Gallery, Brandenburg Tor etc.. They had exciting dance workshops with talented dancers, where they tried out K-pop, hip-hop, and contemporary with the Trybe studio. They had Dinner in the Dark, where they ate in complete darkness with blind waiters. They were invited to see a special show, that was an hour of the greatest 80s hits, glitter, and choreography. To cap things off, they went to see a drag show.

Fashion & Sustainability var på en workshop hos Mini Me Paris, som vi næppe vil glemme. De fik lov til at designe deres egne denimjakker med stof fra Chanel. De lærte om fashion igennem La Galerie Dior og Musée Les Arts Décoratifs. De så både Eiffeltårnet, Sacre Coeur, og Notre Dame. De gik meget rundt inde i byen, og så de mindre ting og noget man normalt ikke ser. I deres fritid gik de rundt og oplevede byen på egen hånd og shoppede en masse. Fashion & Sustainability attended a workshop at Mini Me Paris that will be hard to forget. They were allowed to design our own denim jacket with fabric from Chanel. They learned about fashion through La Galerie Dior and Musée Les Arts Décoratifs. They saw both the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur, and Notre Dame. They walked a lot and saw the smaller things and something you don’t normally see. In thei spare time they walked around and experienced the city on their own and did a lot of shopping.

FIT FOR L IFE / K Ø BE N H AV N FIT FOR L IFE / COPE N H AG E N På fit for life-turen i år tog Fit for Life til København. Det var uventet, da turen oprindeligt var planlagt til at gå til Sønderborg. I stedet tilbragte de dagene i København, hvor de udforskede byen og trænede 24 timer i døgnet. Det endte med at blive meget sjovt. Da turen var slut, havde de lært hele kortet over København udenad. Da de gik hver dag, tog vi kun toget to gange. Det var en meget trættende uge!

For the fit for life trip this year, they went to Copenhagen. It was unexpected, as the trip was originally planned to go to Sønderborg. Instead, they spent their days in Copenhagen, exploring the city and training 24 hours a day. It ended up being very fun. By the end they had the whole map of Copenhagen memorized. Since they walked every day, they only used a train twice. It was a tiring week!

Football took off on a trip to Milan. The team was lucky enough to borrow the facilities of the Milano Football Academy and their fantastic coaches. They also became spectators at football matches within the the San Siro Stadium. A journey filled with unity and passion for football.

På rejsen med gastronomi gik turen til København. De opholdt os i centrum af København, hvilket gjorde det super nemt, da alt var i gå afstand. I København havde de en masse fede mad-oplevelser. De var på højgastronomiske restauranter, bl.a. Restaurant Hummer, BollyFood, og Restaurant Samvær. Her spiste de nogle af turens aftensmåltider. En del af måltiderne var nye for deres smagsløg, hvilket var noget af det, der gjorde det fedt. De spiste sharing food på en del restauranter, hvilket passer perfekt til Ranums motto - Togetherness. Heldigvis lavede de også andet end at spise på turen. De besøgte Kitchen Collective, hvilket var et fedt indblik i livet som iværksætter indenfor madbranchen. På Kitchen Collective kan man leje sig ind i køkkenerne, hvis man fx har en ide som iværksætter eller produktudvikler. De mødte Saana fra Indien som arbejder med bæredygtigeog innovative indiske retter. Hun lærte dem lidt om den indiske madkultur, men også om implementerre bæredygtigheden ved at lave mad. De indiske retter, hun præsenterede dem for havde alle sammen kikærter som hovedingrediens. Der var både sødt, salt, og snacks, hvilket var fascinerende.

On the journey with gastronomy, the trip went to Copenhagen. They stayed in the center of Copenhagen, which made it super easy as everything was within walking distance. In Copenhagen they had a lot of great food experiences. They were at high-gastronomic restaurants, e.g., Restaurant Hummer, BollyFood, and Restaurant Samvær. Here they ate some of the evening meals during the trip. Some of the meals were new to their taste buds, which was part of what made it cool. They ate sharing food at a number of restaurants, which fits perfectly with Ranum’s motto - Togetherness. Fortunately, they did more than just eat on the trip. They visited the Kitchen Collective, which was a great insight into life as an entrepreneur in the food industry. At Kitchen Collective, you can hire yourself into the kitchens if, for example, you have an idea as an entrepreneur or product developer. They met Saana from India, who works with sustainable and innovative Indian dishes. She taught them a bit about the Indian food culture, but also about implementing sustainability by cooking. The Indian dishes she introduced them to all had chickpeas as the main ingredient. There were both sweet, salty, and spicy which was fascinating.

Et af de mange højdepunkter fra Musiks tur til Prag var at besøge Reduta-jazzklubben. På anden dagen om aftenen tog de på en middelalderinspireret restaurant. De startede den tredje dag med en klassisk koncert på et museum, bagefter gik de hen til John Lennonvæggen og sang sangen “Imagine” af John Lennon sammen. Så gik de på indkøb, og senere tog de på Hard Rock Café. De fik noget lækkert mad, og efter deres måltid overraskede Jonas dem med alkoholfrie jordbær drinks. Efter at have besøgt en skole i Prag gik de til deres hotel for at pakke.

One of the many highlights from Music’s trip to Prague was visiting the Reduta jazz club. On the second day in the evening they went to a medieval-inspired restaurant. They started the third day off with a classical concert in a museum, afterwards they went to the John Lennon wall and sang the song “Imagine” By John Lennon together. Then the group split up and went shopping, and later in the evening they went to the Hard Rock Café. They had some delicious food, and after their meal Jonas surprised them with nonalcoholic strawberry drinks. After visiting a school in Prague, they went back to their hotel.

Sejlads har ankret og badet i smukke natur bugter og har ligget i mindre havnebyer tæt på det lokale liv. Eleverne har fået mulighed for at trimme, navigere, styre, tage moorings, fortøjre, kvejle, ankre, proviantere, kommunikere, gøre klart skib, samt lave mad ombord. De har oplevet en ny verden, og det har været virkelig godt at se, hvor meget de har lært og taget ansvar. Sailing has anchored and bathed in beautiful natural bays and has been moored in small harbour towns close to local life. The students have had the opportunity to trim, navigate, steer, take moorings, moor, coaling, anchor, provision, communicate, prepare the ship, as well as cook on board. They have experienced a new world, and it has been great to see how much they have learnt and taken responsibility.

Introduktion til Surf var en oplevelse. Halvanden time i bus til Klitmøller og ud til koldt blæsende vejr. På med en våddragt og ned til det kolde vand. Det var engang imellem en kamp imod det blæsende vejr og strømmen i vandet, men det som holdte os kørende var de gange vi kom op på boardet og cruisede på bølgerne. Det sluttede altid af med en god følelse af nogle gode timer på vandet og en god oplevelse med sine venner og hjælpende surfinstruktører.”

Rejsen til Somo var dejlig kort og hurtig. Hver dag stod vi tidligt op og surfede til solopgangen. Det var dog meget koldt for fødderne, fordi sandet var kølet helt ned over natten, så det føltes som om vi gik på sne. Men lige så snart fødderne ramte vandet blev kroppen varmet op. Vandet var utrolig lækkert, og det var helt klart en helt anden oplevelse end den vi fik i Danmark.”

The surf trip to Spain organized by Ranum Efterskole has taught me to appreciate and value the small moments in life. It’s taught me to cherish your friendships, it’s taught me to dedicate myself and work hard towards something, and lastly to be grateful for every single moment I'm alive. Not only did I get to experience this amazing trip but I got to do it with all my closest friends. We would wake up at 6:30 in the morning, bags under our eyes, sluggish walking, and sore bodies but a warm heart filled with joy and excitement. Even though people were tired and cold, you were always greeted with big smiles all around, while laughter and music filled your ears. The surf instructors were so positive and encouraging, you could really see that they were passionate about surfing and that they love teaching others about it as well. We became part of a community of surfers, where we wanted each other to succeed, we cheered each other on and pushed each other to become better. At the end of the week these people really felt like family. Now, through my description of surfing I hope you will be able to experience the same exhilaration and euphoria I felt on my journey of surfing. We made our way to Playa de Somo. I carry my surfboard with my right arm, my muscles pulsing and straining begging me to let go. My feet turn numb as I walk on the cold sand, but I can still feel sharp rocks pierce the sole of my feet. I see rays of sun that peak through the pink clouds. My eyes meet the ocean, and I am eager to jump in and thaw my frozen feet and feel the tight wetsuit stick to my frigid skin. I place my board on top of the smooth water and launch myself on top of my board. I start dragging my arms up and through the water paddling strenuously to reach the lineup. Using the cobra position I bend my back and lift my head to the sky to let the small white water waves pass beneath me. A mountain of water emerges in the distance and the white water resembles snowcapped peaks. I swing my arms front and back until I feel an overwhelming push and the wave behind me starts to propel me forward and the board effortlessly glides against the water. I set my two hands on the board and in a snake-like potion push myself up from the board, my left leg staying towards the back of my board while my prominent foot comes up front. I bend my knees and my long arms stick out beside me helping me balance as the wave carries me until the fins beneath my board meet the sand on the beach. A smile starts to spread across my face and a feeling of accomplishment and gratification overcomes me. A gust of wind smacks my face, my skin wrinkles and sends a shiver down my body. I taste the particles of salt that lay on my tongue and coat the inside of my cheeks. I desperately rub my stinging eyes that burn from the rough salt. My heart is thumping with adrenaline and anticipation for the next wave.

SU RF / S OM O Surfing has an incredible effect on your body and mind. First you start to feel sore in places you didn’t think you could be sore in. Then you start to feel the muscle building in your body along with your strength and endurance increasing. It’s a physical challenge from carrying your surfboard to and from the beach, paddling until you feel like your arms will fall off, to engaging your core and bending your knees to gain balance while riding the waves. No matter how many times you wipe out, and mounds of whitewater pummel you and drag you underwater as soon as you come up for air you’re still wanting more. It takes dedication, hard work, and most of all respect for the people around you and the beautiful ocean. I always thought my dream to surf was too far-fetched or unrealistic, but it just goes to show that you need to persevere and keep believing. Never give up on your dreams! Ultimately this surf trip has made a huge impact on my life and really changed me as a person. Truly unforgettable.

Et kig under overﬂaden -Smilla Alberte

At kunne dykke nede på 30 meter omgivet kun af vand, og se på fantas<ske ﬁsk og dyr, var en helt ny og fantas<sk oplevelse og langt fra hvad min hverdag ellers består af derhjemme, i Danmark. Denne verden var, et blåt univers, og jeg var allerede helt forelsket ved første dyk.

Jeg skriver denne ar<kel fordi jeg synes, at alle unge der har mulighed for at gå på Ranum EFerskole College, og tage på en af deres virkelig fascinerende rejser, burde gøre det. Især proﬁlfaget dykning <l Egypten. Jeg valgte at tage på eFerskole fordi jeg elsker det sociale og ikke mindst at rejse og opleve verdenen, det var værdier, som REC bl.a. opfyldte, fordi man kommer på 3 rejser i løbet af hele året. Inden start var jeg meget nervøs, og allerede på forhånd skulle jeg vælge et proﬁlfag, som jeg ville have de første par måneder. Jeg var meget usikker, og især ½fordi jeg ikke havde prøvet at dykke før. Alt denne bekymring viste sig fak<sk at være unødvendig. Så kom dagen hvor vi skulle afsted, vi havde pakket alt udstyr, og vi var så klar <l at komme afsted <l Egypten. Vi landede i luFhavnen og blev kørt med bus ud <l bådene. Allerede her var landskabet meget anderledes, end derhjemme i Danmark. Det var mest ørken og næsten intet grønt.

Vi gik i seng og stod op igen dagen eFer. Vi tog alt vores dykkerudstyr på, og hoppede hver især, en eFer en, i vandet. Lige så s<lle sank vi <l bunden, og det blå univers kom <l syne. Vandet var omkring de 20 grader eller varmere, og oFest føles havet lunere end luFen. Det føltes som om jeg var vægtløs og svævende. Min krop og sind havde det fantas<sk. Det var som om livets spørgsmål fik svar, og alle mine problemer forsvandt. Jeg lå vægtløs og flød i vandet, imens jeg betragtede det floQe koralrev, med de vidunderlige mange fisk. Sam<dig med min dykkermakker og jeg, lå og flød rundt, kom jeg også <l at tænke på hvordan koralrevet, og dyrelivet har det. 146

Noget af det, så ikke ud som om, det havde det så godt. Der flød plas<k og andet skrald rundt i vandet, som skader det mari<me liv. Noget af koralrevet så dødt ud. Det fik mig virkelig <l at tænke over nogle <ng, som jeg ellers før ikke havde tænkt over, på samme måde. Jeg fik lysten <l at ændre på nogle <ng. Hjælpe koralrevet. Ikke nok med at det er en god gerning at hjælpe, føltes det endelig som en ide, hvor jeg virkelig følte jeg passede <l opgaven. Jeg har siden da tænkt mange gange på det, og jeg er næsten sikker på at jeg senere i mit liv, vil være med <l at hjælpe koralrevet og/eller være med <l at samle skrald i verdenshavene. Det havde en stor ændring, i hvordan jeg så, hvilke konsekvenser det giver, når mennesker ikke behandler jorden ordentligt. Det koralrev jeg så, var nok slet ikke i nærheden af hvor slemt det står <l andre steder i verden. Det koralrev som jeg så, og som jeg synes var så flot, skal have lov <l at leve videre. Det skal have lov <l at udfolde sig, fiskene skal cirkulere omkring det og have det rart. Koralrevet skal også kunne nydes af andre i frem<den, så derfor mener jeg at flere burde hjælpe det, men sam<dig er det netop også en god ide, for flere unge at tage af sted under vandet, og opdage at der også er et liv dernede. Et af verdensmålene som FN har lavet, hedder følgende:

Det passer så godt med, hvad det er, jeg er så enig med burde ske, og hvad det var jeg opdagede, da jeg var nede at dykke. Ikke mindst er koralrevet også altafgørende for livet på jorden, menneskets liv og meget andet. Hvis ﬂere mennesker og unge individer får øjnene op for det, og ser det i virkeligheden, vil det også have en helt anderledes, og stor betydning, for hvordan folk vil se på vores planet, og hvorfor vi netop skal passe på vores jordklode. Lige så meget som på land som i vand skal vi hjælpe. Tag afsted og oplev verden, dens unikheder, og slå <l der hvor den har brug for det. Denne rejse ændrede min sinds<lstand, og synet på jorden. Alle ville kunne have gavn af det, det er bare ikke alle der har mulighed for det.

Diving Deep: Exploring Togetherness and UN Sustainable Goals in Malta As our train chugged along towards Copenhagen Airport, excitement coursed through our en�re group. We were headed for the adventure of a life�me, with the picturesque island of Malta as our des�na�on. Li�le did we know that our trip would surpass our already high expecta�ons.

Se�ng Oﬀ on Our Journey of Togetherness The train journey was long, and the DSB snacks were absurdly overpriced, but that didn't dampen our spirits. Instead, we made the most of the situa�on, cha�ng, laughing, and watching movies. This camaraderie would serve as the cornerstone of our successful trip. The infec�ous good mood prevailed throughout our journey, crea�ng the perfect atmosphere for new experiences. The plane ride was equally smooth, thankfully lacking any hair-raising moments. However, a crying baby on board did test our pa�ence, almost making us nostalgic for the seemingly overpriced train snacks!

Beneath the Azure Waters: Diving into the Depths of Sustainability Upon arriving in Malta, we found ourselves immediately cap�vated by the stunning landscapes and the crystal-clear waters. The Mediterranean island was a true paradise, and our accommoda�on was no excep�on. The gentle breeze and azure waters beckoned us to explore beneath the surface. Our group was fortunate to have an excep�onal diving instructor who quickly acquainted us with the fundamentals of diving. He led us on a series of breathtaking dives into shallow caves and deep waters, reaching depths of up to 30 meters. The experience was nothing short of magical, with a visit to a sunken wreck being a par�cularly unforge�able highlight. In the depths of the Mediterranean, we witnessed ﬁrsthand the signiﬁcance of the UN Sustainable Goals related to marine life and ecosystems. The delicate beauty of the underwater world reminded us of the urgent need to protect our oceans. It was a profound lesson in sustainability, as we came face to face with the delicate balance that exists beneath the surface. The realiza�on that our ac�ons had a direct impact on this fragile environment served as a compelling call to ac�on. We recognized the necessity to cease li�ering our oceans, not only to preserve the enchan�ng life beneath the sea but also to safeguard the fragile ecosystem that sustains human life.

Togetherness on Display Diving wasn't the sole highlight of our trip. We also organized a spirited minigolf tournament at the resort that showcased our compe��ve spirit (maybe a li�le too much). As we navigated whimsical obstacles, we found ourselves transported to a world of fantasy, where crea�vity knew no bounds. Admi�edly, my friend and I ended up on the losing side, but the experience was a testament to how leisure ac�vi�es can promote togetherness and foster crea�vity.

Balancing Ac�on with Relaxa�on Amidst the ac�on-packed days, we took �me to relax and soak up the sun on the beach and by the pool. The sunny and warm weather provided the perfect backdrop for this much-needed down�me. Sipping on delicious mocktails, we savored the simple joys of life and came to a be�er understanding of the importance of living in the present moment. A beautiful and sunny city that offered everything from a heat wave (that made us visit the beach) to music-filled streets with e.g., the celebration of Spain’s National Day. The days were filled with looking and sketching the Sagrada Familia in the lovely sun, a tour of La Pedrera-Casa Miliá, a walk through Park Gúell, and a day trip to Figureres to visit Salvador Dali’s theater museum.

I went to Barcelona with P1 Ceramics a week before Autumn break for our profile subject trip. We were in Barcelona for a week, and we got to see and experience some amazing things like the National Day of Spain, Gaudi architecture, new food and lots of other things. Although it was a bit too hot for my liking, the trip to Barcelona was great. We had a lot of free time, which I’m happy with, since it made it easier to talk with the other girls on the trip. We had a lot of fun together. We arrived in Barcelona on the 8th of October at around 9.30pm. We picked up our luggage and went straight to the hotel by metro. When we arrived at the hotel, we got our rooms and went to

sleep. The next day we ate breakfast and went to Sagrada Familia, the big cathedral that has been in the making since March of 1882. The architect of Sagrada Familia is made by Antoni Gaudi, who’s also made Casa Milá and Casa Batlló.

together in small groups of 3-6 there. On October 10th we went to Parc Güell where we ate lunch. When we were done eating, we just walked around the park, and then went back down to the city and got dinner at a dumpling restaurant. I’ve never had dumplings before, so I was excited, and they did not disappoint me.

and my favorite ones were with beef, I think it’s some of my favorite food now. After dinner we had some free time and had to get home by ourselves without the help of our teachers, that was a fun experience.

On October 11th, we took a 2-hour train ride to the Salvador Dalí museum in Figueres. We drove by some beautiful towns, one of them kind of reminded me of a place cowboys would live. We spent around 2 hours in the museum, I would recommend going there, it’s a nice museum, I liked how it was built. Each floor was a different era,

“one floor exclusively paintings of stones that looked like women,” another floor was just paintings that looked like war. I’m usually not a fan of museums, but the way it was built made me want to keep going. We were all tired though, so right after the museum we had a couple hours of free time to have lunch and explore the city. We found a Flying Tiger and were very excited about that. On the 12th we had free time until 3pm, some went to the beach and the others stayed at the hotel and got to lunch together. At 3pm we we’re supposed to go to Tibidabo, but it was closed due to the National Day of Spain, so there was a parade in the city, which we stayed to watch. It was a beautiful parade,

but it was still a cool experience. After La Rambla we went to Tibidabo, since it was closed the day before, and saw the sunset there. We had to walk up some of the mountains to Tibidabo, it was a hot evening, and it was the last day,

the people in it had gorgeous outfits on and danced to fun music. When we had watched most of the Parade, we just walked around the area until it was time to go see the Magic Fountain of Montjuic Barcelona. It turned out the fountain was closed due to the warm weather, so that was a bit disappointing, though it was still an amazing day.

“so we were all tired and sweaty.” On the 14th we had to get up at 6am to get ready to leave the hotel and go to the airport. We flew back to Denmark at 11am and were back in Denmark at around 2pm. We then got our luggage and said goodbye to each other. It was a nice trip. I would definitely go back to Barcelona in the future.

Friday the 13th we went to see Casa Milá, the apartment Gaudi made for a family in 1912. It was a beautiful apartment; it had an extraordinary rooftop with an amazing view. When we had seen the apartment, we went to La Rambla and got lunch.

Wakeboard-turen til Sydtyskland var en enestående oplevelse fuld af gode minder. De oplevede mange forskellige ting som at arbejde sammen, leve sammen, og lære sammen. De brugte det meste af tiden ude på vandet med at tage risici og prøve nye ting, hvis du var ude på vandet og prøve nye ting, hørte du højst sandsynligt motivationsråb fra dine venner på land. Steinberger See var et smukt paradis med klart vand og smukke ramper, der var så sjove. Det var sådan en behagelig og interessant tid fyldt med teambuilding. The wakeboarding trip to South Germany was an exceptional experience full of great memories. They experienced many different things like working together, living together, and learning together. They spent most of the time out on the water taking risks and trying new things,. If you were out on the water trying new things you were most likely hearing shouts of motivation from your friends on land. YOG A / M A L AG A Yogas rejse til Spanien, Málaga var en utrolig oplevelse, som de vil huske for evigt. Morgen og sene eftermiddage var fyldt med forfriskende yogasessioner ledet af deres vidunderlige lærere, Mette og Louise. De begyndte deres rejse på yoga-resortet “Finca al Limon,” hvor de nød solen ved poolen og udforskede lokalområdet. De blev kreative da de malede sten og lave drømmefangere, og de udforskede smukke byer som Ronda og Malaga. Deres tur sluttede med en spa-dag, en hyggelig fest, og een uforglemmeligt silent disco. Vejret var perfekt, og de minder de skabte var endnu bedre. Et eventyr de altid vil huske! The Yoga trip to Spain, Málaga, was an incredible experience they’ll cherish forever. The mornings and late afternoons were filled with refreshing Yoga sessions led by their wonderful teachers, Mette and Louise. Beneath the Azure Waters: Diving into the Depths of Sustainability

In the depths of the Mediterranean, we witnessed ﬁrsthand the signiﬁcance of the UN Sustainable Goals related to marine life and ecosystems. The delicate beauty of the underwater world reminded us of the urgent need to protect our oceans. It was a profound lesson in sustainability, as we came face to face with the delicate balance that exists beneath the surface. The realiza�on that our ac�ons had a direct impact on this fragile environment served as a compelling call to ac�on. We recognized the necessity to cease li�ering our oceans, not only to preserve the enchan�ng life beneath the sea but also to safeguard the fragile ecosystem that sustains human life.

Upon arriving in Malta, we found ourselves immediately cap�vated by the stunning landscapes and the crystal-clear waters. The Mediterranean island was a true paradise, and our accommoda�on was no excep�on. The gentle breeze and azure waters beckoned us to explore beneath the surface. Our group was fortunate to have an excep�onal diving instructor who quickly acquainted us with the fundamentals of diving. He led us on a series of breathtaking dives into shallow caves and deep waters, reaching depths of up to 30 meters. The experience was nothing short of magical, with a visit to a sunken wreck being a par�cularly unforge�able highlight.

Full Host på tur til Hamborg Mens størstedelen af eleverne på Ranum Efterskole College afholdte efterårsferie tog en håndfuld Full Host elever på tur til Tysklands næststørste by — Hamborg. Selvom vejret stod på regn i den tyske by, fik eleverne en helt del oplevelser med sig i mindebogen, da de bl.a. skulle sætte deres samarbejde på spil i Escape Roomet “Hidden in Hamburg,” få sus i maven i forlystelsesparken Heide Park, og udforske byens flotte gader og høje bygninger. Full Host on a trip to Hamburg While the majority of the students at Ranum Efterskole College were on their autumn holidays, a handful of Full Host students went on a trip to Germany’s second largest city - Hamburg. Despite the rain in the German city, the students gained quite a few experiences to look back upon, as they had to put their reamwork to the test in the Escape Room “Hidden in Hamburg,” got a rush in the amusement park Heide Park, and explores the city’s beautiful streets and tall buildings.

Extreme var ekstreme! På en regnvåd, blæsende novemberdag med 4 grader tog eleverne fra Extreme ud på en lille “hygge”-tur omkring skolen. For at sætte stemningen lagde de ud med et isbad, inden de tog videre til sandkassen ved idrætsbanerne. Her rullede de sig i sand og gik videre til broen over åen, hvor de blev dækket til i mel. Bageklare tog de videre op til den lille skov, hvor de gik i mudder til hoften nede i åen. Ved den sidste bro blev de til sidst angrebet af grøn havregrød. Der blev lovet gengæld til de elever, der var hyret ind til den hemmelige mission. I var vilde Extreme!

Extreme was extreme! On a rainy, windy November day with 4 degrees Celsius, the students from Extreme went on a little “hygge” trip around the school. To set the mood, they started with an ice bath before moving on to the sandpit by the sports fields. Here they rolled around in sand and went on to the bridge over the river, where they were covered in flour. Ready to bake, they continued up to the small forest, where they walked in mud up to their waists in the river. At the last bridge, they were finally by green oatmeal. Retribution was promised to the students who were hired for the secret mission. You were crazy Extreme! 02.11.2023

On October 31st, the staff at Ranum Efterskole College worked together to create the Haunted House in Næsby for students as well as locals. When darkness fell, the scariest and bloodiest creatures emerged from their hiding places and prepared to create an evening for visitors that they would never forget. As the sun began to rise we began our journey. We all sat at the bus both nervous and excited but most of all tired. Within a minute or two the bus was silent and eyes were closed. As we arrived at the school in Struer we were led to our home for the next two days. The first day began with a small assembly welcoming the newcomers and we were assigned the countries which we were to represent. I myself, along with many others, was nervous as to all the rules and especially the punishments which would be handed out through the day. The structure of mamalien’s heart IGCSE Biology worked with practical experiments with pig hearts. The pig’s heart is incredibly similar to the human heart, so when you sit with a pig’s heart in your hand, you get a completely different idea of how our own body works. 09.11.2023

A group of 9th grade students participated in the First Lego League in Billund. They represented the school after an internal competition between all 9th graders. They competed well and had some great projects. The Style It team created their very own website. Thank you for the support from parents and siblings who came and supported the students. Unfortunately, we didn’t win but we were nominated in the following categories: Robot Design Award - Style IT, Core Values - REC EVENING and the REC EVENING programmers made it to the quarter finals.

Camilla wins short story competition Camilla Sofie Rhod Mikkelsen won the short story competition at the Johannes V Jensen Museum with her interpretation of the theme “On the Edge.” She received a diploma and 3,000 DKK at a beautiful award ceremony with a speech, reading of the winning short story, and music. The short story will soon be available on the museum’s website along with the short stories that won 2nd and 3rd prize. Man kunn se den frem til juleferien. Global issues we care about Downstairs in the 0’ hall in Semi you could see a small exhibition of embroideries made by a fantastic 10th grade English class. It was a WORK IN PROGRESS and showed some of the global issues that the students hold interest in. The exhibition grew in the coming weeks as two other classes joined. November has arrived. The days felt shorter with darkness falling earlier. However, it’s nothing that the students in Ranum couldn’t fix with a little DIY and creative minds. There was organised a “Julehygge” weekend, where they decorated honey hearts and braided Christmas hearts galore. We couldn’t have gotten more ready for Christmas.

E N T RE PRE N EU R S HIP Iværksætteri med ballondyr I merkantil arbejde de i perioden med iværksætteri – fra den spæde idé til en færdig forretningsplan. For at tænke lidt ud af boksen fik eleverne balloner og til opgave at lave ballondyr. Det gav en masse grin, frustrationer, raseriudbrud, samt en fornemmelse af at noget, der ser let ud ikke nødvendigvis er det. Det var også tydeligt, at de hver især havde forskellige kompetencer. Timen sluttede af med at se Jeff Koons ballonhund – og han har jo tjent en formue på den – så ingen idé er for underlig.

Entrepreneurship with balloon animals In business studies, they worked with entrepreneurship in the 2nd period - from the initial idea to a finalised business plan. To think outside the box, students were given balloons and tasked with making balloon animals. This led to a lot of laughter, frustration, tantrums, and a realisation that what looks easy isn’t necessarily easy. It was also clear that they each have different skillsets. The class ended by seeing Jeff Koons’ balloon dog - and he’s made a fortune from it - so no idea is too outlandish. 14.11.2023

Andersens forfatterskab og betydningen bag hans mange eventyrlige fortællinger. De besøgte også renæssancebygningen Egeskov Slot og oplevede den danske jul til julemarkedet. Our Full Host students spent a weekend travelling to the city where the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen grew up - Odense. Here, they gained a broader understanding of Hans Chrisitan Andersen’s writing and the impact his many fairytales have had. They also visited the renaissance building Egeskov Castle and experienced Danish Christmas at the Christmas market. 188

Der blev lært nyt musik, bagt julegodter, kreeret dekorationer, og øvet en helt masse til talentshowet “Global Factor”. I løbet af Imagination week havde vores teams fra musik, performance, kostumer og makeup, lyd og teknik, media, og dans arrengeret en stor forestilling, der blev vist foran forældre, søskende, bedsteforældre, og venner. Tusind tak til alle der hjalp med! During several weeks the students came together to prepare for the big Culture and Imagination Day, which took place on Saturday 2 December, 2023. They learnt new music, baked Christmas treats, made decorations, and rehearsed a whole lot for the talent show “Global Factor”. During Imagination week, our teams from music, performance, costumes and makeup, sound and technology, media, and dance put on a great show that was performed in front of parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends. CH RIS T M A S M A RKE T Den 2. december afholdte vi Imaginationsdag på Ranum Efterskole College, hvor alle forældre, bedsteforældre, søskende, og venner blev inviteret til en dag med julemarked, talentshow, og Kulturfagspræsentationer. Det var en magisk dag, hvor alle pengene fra julemarkedet ubeskåret gik til vores velgørende projekter i Nepal, Malaysia, og Namibia i forbindelse med Kulturfagsrejserne i Januar. Vi takker for alle, som havde mulighed for at deltage på denne dag. Og tusind tak til alle der gav en hånd med til Imaginationsdagen! På årets julemarked blev der solgt alt fra hjemmelavet smykker, flettede kurve, og fine dekorationer til smagsfulde lækkerier produceret i Ranum.

On December 2nd, we had Imagination Day at Ranum Efterskole College, where all parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends were invited to a day with a Christmas market, talent show, and cultural subject presentations. It was a magical day, where all the money from the Christmas market went to our charity projects in Nepal, Malaysia, and Namibia in connection with the Cultural Studies trips in January. We thank everyone who particpated on this day. And special thank you to everyone who lent a hand at Imagination Day! The Christmas market sold everything from handmade jewellery, woven baskets, and fine decorations to tasty treats produced in Ranum.

9. klasserne var på tur til Århus i forbindelse med et forløb om Romantikken og Det Moderne Gennembrud. Vi besøgte ARoS, hvor vi fik en guidet rundtur i malerier fra perioderne. Der var efterfølgende også tid til at se nogle af de andre udstillinger og gå en tur i regnbuen. Efter ARoS var de i Den Gamle By. Eleverne fik her tid på egen hånd til at gå rundt i den julepyntede by. The 9th graders went on a trip to Aarhus in connection with a teaching period regarding Romanticism and “Det Moderne Gennembrud.” They visited ARoS, where they had a guided tour of paintings from the periods. Afterwards, there was also time to see some of the other exhibitions and take a walk in the rainbow. After ARoS, they went to the Old Town. Lastly, Tthe students were given time on their own to walk around the Christmas decorated city.

Kl. 17.00 blev dørene åbnet op for lyskæder i lange baner, røde glitrende kjoler, og en stor lækker julebuffet. Skolens årlige julebal startede ud med juletale fra vores forstander, Olav Storm, der bogstavligt talt dannede en stjernehimmel sammen med eleverne ud over hele salen. Lærerbandet spillede sin klang med festlige sange, mens eleverne dansede rundt om det store juletræ. Det var en vidunderlig aften, som sluttede af med stort fyrværkerishow kl. 21.00. Gennem juleballet fik eleverne muligheden for at vise deres flotte juletøj frem foran kameraet! Tusind tak til alle der gav en hånd med til juleballet og skabte en mindeværdig aften for eleverne på Ranum Efterskole College.

At 17.00, the doors were opened to long strings of lights, red glittering dresses, and a delicious Christmas buffet. Our annual Christmas ball started with a Christmas speech from our headmaster, Olav Storm, who n collarboration with the students literally formed a starry sky in the sports hall. The teacher band played its sounds of festive songs while the students danced around the big Christmas tree. We had a wonderful evening, which ended with a big fireworks show at 21.00. Through the Christmas ball, the students got the opportunity to show off their beautiful Christmas outfits in front of the camera! Thank you to everyone who helped with the Christmas Ball to create a memorable evening for the students at Ranum Efterskole College.

Full Host havde nogle fantastiske dage med langrend, alpint skiløb, samt et besøg på en sibirisk husky-kennel. Eleverne klarede sig så godt på ski, og vi er så stolte af de fremskridt begynderne gjorde sig. Om aftenen fik de stor julemiddag, spillede pakeleg, og dansede om et juletræ i skoven.

Full Host had some amazing days of cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and a visit to a Siberian husky kennel. The students did so well done on skis and we are very proud of the progress the beginners made. In the evening, they had a big Christmas dinner, played gift games, and danced around a Christmas tree in the forest.

C A SIN O W E E KE N D På Ranum Efterskole College afholder vi en årlig Casino Weekend, hvor eleverne får muligheden for at lære at spille poker, se Casino Royal, samt deltage i årets store REC-pokerturnering. Mange elever deltog i denne begivenhed, som var en stor succes. Tusind tak for alle de deltagende i Casino Weekenden. At Ranum Efterskole College, we organise an annual Casino Weekend, where students have the opportunity to learn how to play poker, see Casino Royal, and participate in the year’s big REC poker tournament. Turen til Argentina var helt fantastisk! Eleverne deltog i det mest fantastiske karneval, hvor der var liv og glade mennesker overalt. De besøgte også et hundeshelter, hvor de sødeste hunde næsten fik eleverne til at adoptere dem alle. De havde så mange sjove oplevelser, men det bedste var bare at nyde hinandens selskab. The trip to Argentina was absolutely amazing! The students attended the most amazing carnival where there was life and happy people everywhere. They also visited a dog shelter where the cutest dogs almost made them adopt all the dogs. They had so many fun experiences, but the best part was enjoying each other’s company. 12. - 26.01.2024

På Bali deltog eleverne i en masse frivilligt arbejde, herunder at samle imponerende 90 kilo affald op på blot 1,5 time. De tilbragte også mange timer i vandet med surfing. Desuden besøgte de Tirta Empul templet, hvor de deltog i et smukt vandritual. In Bali, the students did a lot of volunteer work, including picking up an impressive 90 kilos of rubbish in just 1.5 hours. They also spent several hours in the water surfing. In addition, they visited the Tirta Empul temple where they participated in a beautiful water ritual.

Turen til Brasilien var fantastisk! Eleverne havde en utrolig tid og oplevet både Christ the Redeemer og Sugar Loaf Mountain. De nød den smukke brasilianske natur ved at ride på heste, bade i vandfald, samt plante træer. Selvfølgelig fandt de også tid til at shoppe, nyde lækker mad, og hygge sig sammen.

Our trip to Brazil was amazing! The students had an incredible time and experienced Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain. They enjoyed the beautiful Brazilian nature by riding horses, bathing in waterfalls, as well as planting trees. Of course, they also found time to shop, enjoy delicious food, and have fun together.

Vi var i regnskoven, hvor vi lærte om planter, dyr og miljøets betydning. På en ridefarm oplevede vi livet på landet, og folkene var super venlige og gæstfrie. De f leste talte portugisisk i stedet for engelsk, men det gik fint, og vi fandt andre måder at kommunikere på. Brasilien er et fattigere land, men jeg blev imponeret over, hvor selvforsynende de er. Det var fascinerende at se, hvordan natur og kultur hænger sammen. Rejsen gav ny indsigt i kulturen, natur og de mennesker, der bor der”

12 dage i hinandens selvskab, og de hyggede bare! Eleverne tilbragt timevis på ski og så lidt mere ski! At suse ned ad pisterne var en fantastisk oplevelse, hvor man kunne nyde den friske og kolde luft. Udover ski udforskede de også Vancouver, hvor de både har shoppede og så seværdigheder. De var endda heldige nok til at se en hockeykamp og fejre Emils fødselsdag! sammen. 12 days in each other’s company and it was just great! The students spent hours on skis with more skiing! Whizzing down the slopes was an amazing experience where the fresh and cold air could be enjoyed. Besides skiing, they also explored Vancouver through shopping and sightseeing. They were even lucky enough to watch a hockey game and celebrate Emil’s birthday.

In China, the students became immersed into a world of culture. They enjoyed the sight of lovable pandas, explored ancient temples, and admired impressive Buddha statues. Additionally, they had an exciting experience at a training centre where they gained insight into the art and techniques of Kung Fu.

Dagene var fyldt med eventyr! Eleverne vandrede gennem junglen, spillede fodbold med de lokale, lyttede til spændende historier fra indfødte, lærte selvforsvar, vandrede ved fortryllende vandfald, besøgte en kaffeplantage, prøvede kræfter med River Rafting, og ikke mindst oplevede den mystiske jungle på nattevandringer. Det var en uforglemmelig rejse fyldt med oplevelser og nye indtryk.

The days were filled with adventure! The students hiked through the jungle, played football with the locals, listened to exciting stories from indigenous people, learned self-defence, hiked besides enchanting waterfalls, visited a coffee plantation, gave River Rafting and go and, experienced the mysterious jungle on night walks. It was an unforgettable journey full of experiences and new impressions.

Det var en fantastisk tur! Europaturen bragte eleverne til Portugal, Frankrig, og Spanien. Eleverne nød virkelig at være turister og udforske en masse spændende seværdigheder. It was a fantastic trip! The European tour took the students through Portugal, France, and Spain. The studnets truly enjoyed being tourists and exploring various exciting sights. Eleverne havde en virkelig god tur til Japan! De udforskede en masse templer og beundrede den smukke japanske arkitektur. En særlig oplevelse var at møde de høflige dådyr, som bukkede hver gang de blev givet mad. Eleverne nød også hyggelige øjeblikke på de små markeder, hvor de købte souvenirs.

Malaysia bød på vildt mange spændende oplevelser! Eleverne brugte tid som frivillige på en skole, boede hos værtsfamilier, kastede sig ud i River Rafting, badede i vandfald, og meget mere. Det var en uforglemmelig tur, og eleverne har glædeligt taget en masse fantastiske minder med hjem. Malaysia offered so many exciting experiences! The students spent time volunteering at a school, stayed with host families, embarked on River Rafting adventures, swam in waterfalls, and much more. It was an unforgettable trip and the students happily took all these amazing memories back home.

Turen til Marokko var virkelig fed! Mange af dagene blev brugt på at lære at surfe på bølgerne, hvilket var en uforglemmelig oplevelse. Eleverne red også på kameler og nød den betagende udsigt. Undervejs mødte de lokale studerende i Tamraght og fik en hyggelig lille snak med dem. Alt i alt var det en fed tur med masser af spændende aktiviteter og gode møder med lokale.

The trip to Morocco was incredible! Several of the days were spent learning to surf the waves, which was an unforgettable experience. They also rode camels and enjoyed the breathtaking views. Along the way, they met local students in Tamraght and had a nice little chat with them. All in all, it was a great trip with lots of exciting activities and great encounters with locals.

Namibia var virkelig en uforglemmelig tur! Eleverne udforskede den varme ørken og besøgte de imponerende sandklitter ved Sossusvlei. De deltog også i at lave et nyt vandtrug til 6 geparder og fik mulighed for at fodre de mange dyr, herunder løver og geparder. Det var en oplevelsesrig rejse fyldt med spændende aktiviteter og tæt kontakt med den vilde natur og de lokale. 276

Namibia was truly an unforgettable trip! The students explored the hot desert and visited the impressive sand dunes at Sossusvlei. They also participated in making a new water trough for 6 cheetahs and had the opportunity to feed the many animals, including lions and cheetahs. It was an adventurous trip filled with exciting activities and close contact with the wildlife and locals.

I Nepal oplevede eleverne virkelig den smukke nepalesiske kultur. De fik lov til at prøve flotte traditionelle kjoler samt besøgde markeder, imponerende templer, og børnehjem. Udover kulturelle oplevelser kastede de sig også ud i vilde aktiviteter som riverrafting, faldskærmsudspring, og ziplining. Det var den fedeste tur til Nepal, og det er en rejse, de aldrig vil glemme. In Nepal, the students really experienced the beautiful Nepalese culture. They got to try on beautiful traditional dresses as well as visited markets, impressive temples, and orphanages. In addition to cultural experiences, they also indulged in wild activities such as river rafting, skydiving and ziplining. It was the coolest trip to Nepal and it’s a trip they’ll never forget.

Hvor mange kan sige, at de har gået hele vejen op til Mulde Peak på 3640 meters højde? Ikke mange, men det gjorde High Treck eleverne! De havde en fantastisk tur oppe i bjergene og nød den utrolige udsigt. Udover bjergbestigning udforskede de også de lokale områder og prøvede kræfter med riverrafting. Det var en uforglemmelig oplevelse både i højderne og på jorden. How many people can say they’ve walked all the way up to Mulde Peak at 3640 metres altitude? Not many, but the High Treck students did! They had a fantastic trip up the mountains and enjoyed the incredible views. Besides mountaineering, they also explored the local areas and tried river rafting. It was an unforgettable experience both in the heights and on the ground.

Det var virkelig hyggeligt at være i Panama! Eleverne nød turen utroligt meget. De badede i forfriskende vandfald, kastede sig ud i ziplining, gik lange ture, og snorklede i det fantastiske blå vand. De spillede endda også fodbold mod nogle lokale fra Panama. Det er en tur, de kommer til at huske i mange år fremover!

It was really great to be in Panama! The students all enjoyed the trip immensely. They swam in refreshing waterfalls, went ziplining, went for long walks, and snorkelled in the amazing blue water. They even played football against some Panamanian locals. It was a trip they’ll remember for years to come!

I Sydafrika var de virkeligt aktive! Eleverne udfordret sig selv med både sandboarding og ziplining. Derudover besøgte de Wynberg Boys’ High School, hvor modige elever holdt oplæg om det danske skolesystem foran en forsamling på 1000 elever. De oplevede også den vilde natur på safari og nød udsigten fra Table Mountain. In South Africa they were really active! The students challenged themselves with both sandboarding and ziplining. They also visited Wynberg Boys’ High School, where brave students gave a presentation about the Danish school system in front of an audience of 1000 students. They also experienced the wild nature on a safari and enjoyed the view from Table Mountain.

S O U T H KO RE A I Sydkorea brugte eleverne noget af deres tid på at besøge det koreanske nationale krigsmuseum, hvor de lærte om Koreakrigen og koreansk historie. De nød også en tur til en kattecafé, hvor de kunne nyde lidt mad og kæle med de sødeste katte. Derudover fik de også mulighed for at prøve de traditionelle Hanbok-kjoler. Alt i alt var det en virkelig god tur. In South Korea, they students spent some of their time visiting the Korean National War Museum, where they learnt about the Korean War and Korean history. They also enjoyed a trip to a cat café where they enjoyed some food and cuddle with the cutest cats. In addition, they also had the opportunity to try on the traditional Hanbok dresses. All in all, it was a really great trip.

I Thailand besøgte eleverne vores venskabsskole, hvor de havde fornøjelsen af at tale med nogle af eleverne. De var utroligt venlige og gav endda Ranum eleverne en gave med hjem, som skolen nu har som et evigt mide af turen. Derudover tilbragte de mange timer både i og på vandet, hvor de nød naturen og hinandens selskab. Eleverne havde virkelig en fantastisk tur og nød hvert øjeblik sammen! In Thailand, the students visited our friendshipschool where they had the pleasure of talking to some local students. They were incredibly friendly and even gave the Ranum students a gift to take home, which is now at the school as a permanent memory of trip. In addition, they spent several hours both in and on the water, and enjoyed nature and each other’s company. They really had a great trip and enjoyed every moment together! 12. - 26.01.2024

På køreturen gennem det østlige USA besøgte eleverne blandt andet Washington D.C., hvor vejret ikke var særligt varmt. Udover det deltog de i en jagt for at spotte så mange krokodiller som muligt. De besøgte også Kennedy Space Center, hvor de oplevede en række spændende ting relateret til rummet. On the road trip through the Eastern USA, the students visited Washington D.C., where the weather wasn’t particularly wrm. In addition, they took part in a hunt to spot as many crocodiles as possible. They also visited the Kennedy Space Centre, where they experienced a number of exciting things related to space.

Under opholdet i vest USA mødte eleverne med en tidligere REC studerende, som fortalte os om sit liv og hverdag i USA. Derudover besøgte eleverne The Walk of Fame og den allerførste McDonald’s butik, som åbnede tilbage i 1948. De havde en utrolig hyggelig tur og nød at køre på de amerikanske veje. Det er en tur, som de sent vil glemme.

During the stay through the Western USA, the students met with a former REC student who told them about his life and everyday life in the US. They also visited the Walk of Fame and the very first McDonald’s store, which opened back in 1948. They had an incredibly cosy trip and enjoyed driving on the American roads. It’s a trip they will never forget.

A trip I’m never going to forget. It was such a great trip and I met many new friends. We went to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, phoenix and some very beautiful small towns. Seeing the nature with my own eyes felt so good and I will never forget it.”

US RO BOTIC S US Robotics holdet var på road-trip. Her kunne det kolde vejr mærkes. Gruppen udforskede bl.a. Everglades, Savannah, og Daytona Beach. Eleverne blev mest af al udfordret med teknologi og programmering.

Turen til Texas var virkelig sjov! Eleverne boede hos de sødeste værtsfamilier, hvor de havde en fantastisk tid. Udover det fik de mulighed for at prøve at være rigtige cowboys ved at ride på heste og besøge en skydebane. De besøgte også en lokal high school, hvor de talte med de amerikanske elever og deltog i en sikkerhedsøvelse. Selvfølgelig besøgte de også Dallas Cowboys’ stadion, hvor de fik en spændende rundvisning.

The trip to Texas was so much fun! The sudents stayed with the sweetest host families and had a great time. On top of that, they got to expereince being real cowboys when riding horses and visiting a shooting range. They also visited a local high school, where they met some America students and participated in a safety drill. Naturally, they, also visited the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium, where they had an exciting tour.

Efter kulturfagsrejserne inviterede vi familierne til en særlig dag på skolen, en kulturog familiedag. Her skulle eleverne dele deres rejseoplevelser og fortælle om, hvad de har lært og oplevet. Målet var at give familierne et dybere indblik i, hvad eleverne har fået ud af deres respektive ture, og hvordan de er blevet klogere gennem deres kulturoplevelser. After our cultural studies trips, we invited families to a special day at school, a Culture and Family Day. Here, students shared their travel experiences and talked about what they learnt and experienced. The goal was to give families a deeper insight into what the students have gained from their respective trips as well as what they learnt from their cultural experiences.

H A RRY P OT T E R W E E KE N D En weekend blev dedikeret til Harry Potter, og det betød at eleverne naturligvis blev opdelt i Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw og Hufflepuff huse. Hvert hus blev præsenteret for flere udfordringer, herunder at bage kager og tage billeder, der passede perfekt til Harry Potter-temaet. A weekend was dedicated to Harry Potter, which meant that students were naturally divided into Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff houses. Each house was presented with several challenges, including baking cakes and taking pictures that perfectly matched the Harry Potter theme.

M E MORY HOODIE

Mindetrøjen starter med at være et simpelt Ranum Efterskole College logo, som bliver fyldt med det fællesskab som årgangen 23/24 har skabt. Eleverne fylder nemlig selv dette logo op med deres navne, og det giver altså et helt unikt fællesskab, lige præcis som det, der er blevet skabt i løbet af året. Samtidigt er mindetrøjen et tegn på, at året er ved at nå sin slutning, hvilket føles helt uvirkeligt! Produktionen af mindetrøjerne blev sat i gang, og det var fedt at vise vores store fællesskab frem i hele verdenen på de mange forskellige kulturfagsrejser! The memory hoodie starts with a simple Ranum Efterskole College logo, which is then filled with the togetherness that the 23/24 year group has created. The students themselves fill this logo with their names, creating a unique community just like the one that has been created this year. At the same time, the memory hoodie is a sign that the year is coming to an end, which feels completely unreal! The production of the commemorative began, and it was great to show off our great community around the world on the many different cultural subject trips!

Kærlighed var i luften på Valentinedag, da en masse elever kom til Ranumhus for at skrive kærlighedsbreve/Valentines kort til andre elever. Art & Design eleverne lavede hjerter for at fortælle alle, hvor højt de er elsket - især kontorpersonalet, rengøringspersonalet, pedellerne, og køkkenet.

Love was in the air on Valtenines Day, when several students came to Ranumhus to write love letters/ Valentine’s cards to other students. Art & Design students made hearts to tell everyone how loved they are - especially the office staff, cleaning staff, the janitors, and the kitchen.

Eleverne fra projektklassen startede en genbrugsbutik, som en del af deres arbejde med projektstyring. I projektklassen fokuserede de på at designe og generere ideer til forskellige projekter, som de derefter skulle udføre. Tanken bag genbrugsbutikken var at sælge glemt tøj fra det tidligere elevhold 22/23, og indtægterne fra salget blev doneret til vores venskabsskole i Nepal. The students from the project class started a Second Hand Shop as part of their project management work. In the project ckass, they focus on designing and generating ideas for different projects that they then have to realise. The idea behind the Second Hand Shop was to sell forgotten clothes from the 22/23 students, and the profits from the sales were be donated to our freindship school in Nepal.

Vores Full Host elever drog til Aarhus, hvor de udforskede byen og fik en kreativ oplevelse med at male på keramik. Derudover fik de også chancen, for lidt sjov og ballade, ved at prøve paintballing og blive lidt beskidte.

Our Full Host students travelled to Aarhus, Denmark, where they explored the city and had a creative experience painting on ceramics. They also got the chance to have more fun when they tried paintballing and got a bit dirty.

Grundet 3. elevfest, som var lige rundt om hjørnet, blev der arrangeret en lille opvarmningsfest onsdag aften (selvfølgelig uden alkohol). Dem der havde lyst samlede sig i Ranumhus, hvor der var lækre snacks, kolde drikkevarer, høj musik og et dansegulv. Stemningen var helt fantastisk. Eleverne nød hinandens selskab, snakkede, dansede og sang med til musikken. Due to the 3rd student party being just around the corner, a small warm-up party was organised Wednesday evening (without alcohol, of course). Those who wanted to gather in Ranumhus where there along with delicious snacks, cold drinks, loud music, and a dance floor. The atmosphere was fantastic. The students enjoyed each other’s company, chatted, danced. and sang along to the music.

En kedelig mandag aften kan hurtigt blive spændende med en omgang blindsmagning! Konceptet var enkelt: Bind for øjnene, smag på noget mystisk og gæt hvad det er. Den mystiske madvare var alt fra et almindeligt æble til noget mere uventet som ketchup eller leverpostej. Det var en sjov og udfordrende aktivitet, som var meget enkel, men som helt sikkert bragte smil frem på læberne. A boring Monday night can quickly become exciting with a game of blind tasting! The concept was simple: Blindfold your eyes, taste something mysterious, and guess what it is. The mystery food was anything from a regular apple to something more unexpected like ketchup or “leverpostej.” It was a fun and challenging activity that was very simple, though it sure did bring smiles on the students’ faces.

Årgang 23/24 var så heldige at de fik en ekstra dag i skoleåret, og den dag blev udnyttet fuldt ud. I Ranumhus var der eksempelvis mulighed for at skrive et brev til sit fremtidige jeg. Brevet måtte indeholde lige det de ønskede, men de må først åbne brevet igen til næste skudårsdag, i 2028.

LEAP YEAR

Year group 23/24 was so fortunate that they got an extra day in the school year, and that day was fully utilised. In Ranumhus, students had the opportunity to write a letter to their future selves. The letter could contain anything they wanted, but they cannot open the letter again until next leap day, in 2028.

For at sende eleverne godt afsted inden påskeferien, blev der arrangeret påskejagt. Eleverne skulle samle så mange æg som muligt rundt omkring på skolen for at vinde den store pris. Alle elever fik tildelt en hale, og hvis deres hale blev taget, skulle de aflevere deres æg og begynde forfra. Eleverne havde mulighed for at jage påskehare eller kyllinger og de elever, som fangede dem først fik kinderæg. To get the students off to a good start before the Easter holidays, an Easter hunt was organised. Students were to collect as many eggs as possible from around the school to win the big prize. All students were given a tail and if their tail was taken, they had to return their eggs and start again. Students also had the opportunity to hunt for Easter bunnies or chickens, and the students who caught them first were rewarded with Kinder Eggs.

H OL I FE S TIVA L Vores AFS elever fra Thailand og Indien afholdte den storslåede Hindu Holi Festival. Både elever og ansatte var inviteret til at deltage i festivalen, som markerer ankomsten af foråret. Der blev opfordret til at undgå, at iføre sig sit fineste tøj, da farverne ville være svære at undgå. Der var højt musik, godt humør og farver blev kastet over det hele imens de bød foråret velkommen.

Our AFS students from Thailand and India organised the magnificent Hindu Holi Festival. Both students and staff were invited to attend the festival, which marked the arrival of spring. It was encouraged to avoid wearing your finest clothes as the colours would be hard to miss. There was loud music, good spirits, and colours were thrown everywhere to welcome spring.

Her blev deres omtalte kanelbullar nydt i massevis, som var en stor succes blandt smagsløgene. Ded sonderet også alle byens hjørner med bådrundfart og på gåben gennem de mange spændende gader.

During Easter, time with our lovely Full Host students was spent exploring the Swedish city of Gothenburg. They enjoyed their famous cinnamon buns in abundance, which were a big hit with the taste buds. They also explored all corners of the city by boat tour and on foot through the many exciting streets.

På hele turen spiste Asian Cooking holdet forskellige kulturelle fødevarer, som man ikke kan finde i Danmark. Det var en fantastisk tur for eleverne, som var på udkig efter fantastiske nye smage og teksturer i deres kost (i hvert fald i den uge). Spise var dog ikke det eneste de lavede. Eleverne tog også ud på en skole og prøvede en normal dag i deres liv. En af dagene prøvede de alle sammen, og deres kroppe, at lave mad, som endte med at være meget sværere, end det så ud til. De prøvede alle sammen forskellige ting, fordi de boede hos forskellige familier. Derfor smagte de ikke den samme mad og så ikke de samme ting. Der var to, som skulle bo i den anden ende af Hong Kong og gik på en anden skole og så en anden by. Den sidste dag skulle eleverne sige farvel til værtsfamilierne, og de tog til Disneyland Hong Kong inden de skulle flyve mod Danmark igen.

Throughout the trip Asian Cooking ate diverse and cultural foods you won’t be able to find in Denmark. It was a great trip for the student who were looking for new tastes and textures within their diets (at least for the week). Yet, they didn’t only eat as they also went to a school and tried a normal day in their lives. One they, they, and their bodies, also tried cooking which was much harder than what it looked like. They all tried different things because they lived with different families, so they didn’t taste all the same foods or saw the same things. There were two who had to live on the other side of Hong Kong, so they went to another school and saw another city. The last day they had to say goodbye to their host families and then they were off to Disneyland, Hong Kong before they had to board the plane back to Denmark.

The trip to London was an eventful trip, where they improved their makeup and skin care skills at various workshops. They also explored London by a boat trips to Greenwich to experience a market.

P3 Ceramics turen til Italien var en mega fed tur. De ankom til Italien om søndagen i Bologna, hvor de derefter tog en bus til Firenze. I Firenze gik de mest bare rundt og oplevede byen og dens historie. De så bl.a.. ‘Ponte Vecchio,’ hvilket var en virkelig flot bro. De så også ‘Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore’, som var stor og smuk. En af dagene besøgte de et keramik værksted en times togkørsel væk fra Firenze. Det var en meget fed oplevelse, hvor de havde det vildt sjovt og de lærte en masse. Onsdag tog de afsted mod Pisa, og tilbragte deres sidste par dage inden de tog hjem fredag. I Pisa så de det Skæve Tårn. Det var en virkelig hyggelig rejse med en masse gode mennesker, helt klart noget de aldrig glemmer! P3 Ceramics trip to italy was a great trip. They arrived in Italy on Sunday in Bologna, where they then took a bus to Florence. In Florence they mostly just walked around and experienced the city and its history. They saw e.g., the ‘Ponte Vecchio,’ which is a really beautiful bridge. They also saw the ‘Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore,’ which was massive and beautiful. One of the days they visited a pottery workshop an hour by train from Florence. It was a great experience. They had a lot of fun and they learnt a lot. On Wednesday, they left for Pisa where they spent the last couple of days before heading home on Friday. In Pisa, they saw the Leaning Tower. It was a really great trip with a lot of amazing people, definitely something they’ll will never forget!

Gelato, pizza, and spaghetti were definitely a big part of our trip to Italy, but nonetheless, we also did and bought an endless amount of ceramics over just 5 days.

On the first couple of days in Firenze, we were met by the beautiful architecture and cozy shopping streets. A 20 minute train drive from Firenze we visited Montelupo Ceramics School where we were taught new techniques and traditional Italian art.

Gelato, pizza og spaghetti var helt sikker en stor del af turen til Italien, men vi må hellere ikke glemme den enorme mængde keramik vi både lavede og købte på kun 5 dage.

På vores først dage i Firenze så vi både smuk arkitektur og hyggelige gågader. 20 minuter i tog fra Firenze besøgte vi Montelupo Ceramics School hvor vi lærte nye teknikker og traditionelt italiensk kunst.

Vi brugte vores sidste dage under solen i Pisa, hvor vi besøgte det kendte Skæve Tårn og nød den lille by.

På klatreturen til italien havde de blandt andet ekspedition med klippeklatring, de lærte nye tricks af lokale guides og gik kompliceret ruter med reb over skulderen og hjelm på hovedet. Dagene endte altid med lækkert mad eller god italiensk is.

The climbing trip to Italy included rock climbing expeditions, learning new tricks from local guides, and walking complicated routes with ropes over our shoulders and helmets on our heads. The days always ended with delicious food or good Italian ice cream.

Under havets overflade - Ranum Efterskole College Min rejse begyndte ved det røde hav, hvor det krystalklare vand, og de varme briser bød velkommen. Med mit dykkerudstyr på plads og mit hjerte fuld af forventning hoppede vi alle en efter en ned i det dybe blå vand og dykkede ned i havets dybder.

Hvert dyk var en udfordring for at teste vores grænser og vokse individuelt. Vi lærte at stole på vores udstyr og hinanden, og vi opdagede en følelse af tillid og samhørighed, der kun kan opstå gennem fælles oplevelser og udfordringer.

Under vandet bliver vi mødt af farver, livlige koraller med de smukkeste neonfarver og de tropiske fisk svømmede i flokke forbi os. Det var som at træde ind i en anden verden af lys og farver. Det er et syn som tog pusten af mig, men det var ikke kun skønheden der tog pusten af mig det var også følelsen af at kunne dele dette øjeblik med mine efterskolevenner.

Hver gang jeg steg op til overfladen, var mit hjerte fyldt med taknemmelighed. Jeg havde oplevet noget jeg aldrig ville have troet at opnå i min vildeste fantasi, og det har sat spor og minder der vil vare evigt.

For mange af os var det første gang, vi dykkede, og det krævede mod at overvinde vores frygt og springe ud i det ukendte. Men med støtte fra vores lærer og dykkerguides opdagede vi en indre styrke og mod, vi ikke vidste, vi havde.

Da vi ikke var under havets overflade, delte vi vores latter, glæde og ikke mindst togheterness som vi dannede på vores tur. Mens solen bevægede sig hen over himlen, fandt vi os selv i forskellige aktiviteter og fornøjelser ombord på båden. Nogle af os slappede af med en god bog eller lyttede til vores yndlingsmusik, mens andre måske udfordrede hinanden i kortspil. Uanset hvad vi valgte at gøre, var det samværet og latteren, der fyldte luften og gjorde disse øjeblikke så specielle.

Vi havde også den fantastiske oplevelse at snorkle med delfiner. I det stille nærvær af delfinerne følte jeg mig lille i det store ocean, men samtidig følte jeg os også en del af noget større og mere betydningsfuldt. Det var som om, at naturen selv talte til os gennem disse

smukke skabninger. Denne oplevelse blev et vigtigt vendepunkt i vores forståelse af vores rolle som beskyttere af havet. Det gik op for mig hvor tæt jeg var på havets skabninger end jeg troede. Jeg blev mindet om vores ansvar for at beskytte og respektere dem og deres levesteder, og jeg blev inspireret til at handle for at bevare vores verdenshave.

Maltas smukke vande blev udforsket af faget Dyk og Pløk, hvor de heldige elever fik fanget fisk med harpoon. De fik også spydfisket og tilberedt og spist de fisk, som de fangede. Det var en fantatsisk tur, hvor eleverne kom tættere på hinanden og fik nye kompetencer.

The beautiful waters of Malta were explored by the Freediving team were lucky enough to catch fish with a harpoon. They also went spear fishing and they cooked and ate the fish they caught. A fantastic trip where the students became closer and learnt new skills.

En uge på en kæmpe båd, 4 dyk hver dag, tanning og venskaber for livet. Dette er alt jeg fik på min profilfagsrejse til Egypten. Hver dag lærte man noget nyt. om det så var hvordan man kom ned på 30 meters dybe, hvordan man laver backflip fra toppen af en båd, eller endda teksten til en sang på arabisk. Det er noget jeg aldrig ville glemme.

A week on a huge boat, 4 dives every day, tanning, swimming with dolphins and frindships for life. That is some of the things i got on my profile trip to Egypt. Every day you learned something new. Diving in the depth of 30 meters, how to do a backflip from the top of a boat, or even arabic lyrics to a song. it is something i will never forget

E X T RE M E S KIING / N O RWAY Turen skulle havde været til Nordmakedonien, men da sneen var blevet erstattet af rødt sand fra Saharaørkenen og en temperatur på omkring de 20 grader, blev turen flyttet til Hemsedal, Norge. Trods den uventede ændring blev det en rejse, eleverne sent vil glemme. Det var en lille gruppe på 11 deltagere, hvilket betød en tur med et fantastisk fællesskab og total hygge. De havde fire dage på ski. De første to dage var på pisterne ved skisportscenteret, den tredje dag var offroad på centeret, og sidste dag var touring på et nærliggende bjerg med hunden Nala og den norske guide Rune. Selvom vejret skiftede og de på enkelte tidspunkter stødte på iset og tung sne samt en smule regn og vind, var de heldige at have flere dage med dejligt vejr og solskin.

E X TRE M E S KIING / NORG E The trip was supposed to have been to North Macedonia, but as the snow had been replaced by red sand from the Sahara Desert and a temperature of around 20 degrees, the trip was moved to Hemsedal, Norway. Despite the unexpected change, it was a trip they students will never forget. It was a small group of 11 people, which meant a trip with a great sense of togetherness and total “hygge.” They had four days skiing The first two days were on the slopes at the ski centre, the third day was off-road at the centre, and the last day was touring on a nearby mountain with the dog Nala and Norwegian guide, Rune. Despite the changing weather, encounters with icy and heavy snow, as well as a bit of rain and wind, they were lucky to have several days with nice weather and sunshine.

Med Gastronomi til Kreta besøgte eleverne blandt andet Municipal Market, Melidoni Cave og den danske olivenbonde, Holger. De brugte en masse dage mrf lækkert mad. De var også til middagsfest og lavet egne retter.

With Gastronomy to Crete students visited the Municipal Market, Melidoni Cave, and the Danish olive farmer, Holger. They spent multiple days eating delicious food. They also attended a dinner party and made they own dishes.

TRIP TO ICELAND 2024 We landed at around ten in iceland and headed out to look at geysers and various national parks. After a packed first day we headed back to our apartments and rested. The next day we spent driving alongside the south east side of icleand were we saw waterfalls such as Rangárþing eystra, Skógafoss and finnaly the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Vi landede omkring ti på island og tog ud for at se på gejsere og forskellige nationalparker. Efter en fyldt første dag tog vi tilbage til vores lejligheder og hvilede os. Den næste dag brugte vi på at køre langs den sydøstlige side af island, og hvor vi så vandfald som Rangárþing eystra, Skógafoss og endelig Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

The following day we headed to kirkjubæjarklaustur where we had to camp outside, we were grateful for such a beautiful veiw at our doorstep though the cold was hard to ignore at night. The comming day we explored an ice cave with a tour guide and finished the day by setting up our cabins and enjoying pizza. The Last day before returning to Reykavik was spent whale watching in Hauganes. On the way back to Reykavik the following day we spotted seals and explored Reykjavík Den følgende dag tog vi til kirkjubæjarklaustur, hvor vi skulle slå lejr udenfor, vi var taknemmelige for sådan en smuk udsigt ved vores dørtrin, selvom kulden var svær at ignorere om natten. Efter udforskede vi en isgrotte med en rejseleder og sluttede dagen af med at sætte vores hytter op og nyde pizza. Sidste dag før retur til Reykavik var hvalsafari i Hauganes. På vej tilbage til reykavik den følgende dag så vi sæler og udforskede Reykjavík

5 dage i Skotlands hjerte, Edinburgh. Eleverne begyndte turen med en masse turer op og ned ad Edinburghs gader. De udforskede Edinburgh Castle, gik en god tur ned af The Royal Mile, hvor de endte dagen af med en (u)hyggelig Ghostwalk igennem mørket. De forsatte (u)hyggen i Edinburgh’s Dungeon, hvor de alle blev bekendte med værktøjet ’Chippy Chopper.’ Senere på dagen fik de med ægte britisk manér te og kage, samt de bedste scones de nogensinde havde smagt. Eleverne tog også den 270 km lange tur op til Loch Ness, hvor de fik en masse historie og seværdigheder set. Yderligere, besøgte de en skole og fik et indblik i den skotske skolegang, efterfulgt af et besøg på deres nationalmuseum - her så de selvfølgelig det berømte får Dolly. De afsluttede turen med hygge i mørk kælder, hvor de lavede eliksirer. Det var en uforglemmelig tur fyldt med fællesskab og dejlige stunder.

5 days in the heart of Scotland, Edinburgh. The students kicked off the trip with plenty of walking up and down the streets of Edinburgh. They explored Edinburgh Castle, took a nice stroll down The Royal Mile where they capped off the day with a (spooky) Ghostwalk through the darkness. They continued the (spooky) fun at Edinburgh’s Dungeon, where we all got acquainted with the tool ‘Chippy Chopper.’ Later in the day, they had tea and cake in a true British manner with the best scones they had ever tasted. Additioanlly, they took the 270 km journey to Loch Ness, where they learnt some history and saw some sights. They also visited a school to learn about the Scottish education followed by a visit to their national museum - here they, of course, saw the famous sheep Dolly. The trip finished with some hygge in a dark cellar. It was an unforgettable trip filled with togetherness and lovely moments.

A Spellbinding Journey Through Scotland’s Mysteries By Gaia Dalsgaard Johansen, 378

Today I want to tell you about what Scotland really is. What Edinburgh really is. Most people find Scotland as a country full of rain and bagpipes, which is not wrong. But the history of this country, and the city of Edinburgh, is so much darker. We as myths and legends had one task. To figure out and learn the truth about this apparently not so innocent city. Arrival in the dark Clock strikes 2 and the plane finally connects with ground once again. The flight was delayed. We walked through the dark and rainy streets of Edinburgh, to then finally reach our hostel. Princess Street Hostel. The beds were black steel frames, like one from a prison. But we were going to stay there for the next 5 days. It was just about settling in. There was no other option.

The looming castle Next day was rainy too. This day our destination was the well-known Edinburgh Castle. The castle itself, was pretty on its own. But like every other part of Scotland, this had a dark side to it as well. Because within its ancient walls, echoes of past betrayals and battles whispered through shadowed corridors. The dungeons, filled with history, evoked tales of imprisonment and torture, while the castle's battlements offered spellbinding views of the city below.

Amidst its darkness, there was a lingering sense of magic, inviting for exploration and discovery.

Nothing in Edinburgh is free from darkness and mysteries.

Those we don’t speak of

The next few days did not get any better. Sarah was her name. From how she looked, you could tell that she knew something about Edinburgh that the rest of us did not. She was wearing a long leather coat, patched together with black duct tape. She was also wearing a black top hat, that sat a little crooked on her head. She knew. She knew the truth that laid between the walls and beneath our feet.

She brought us to a small, locked up entryway to the so-called underground vaults. As we ventured deeper into the dimly lit passageways, she regaled us with tales of the nameless and forgotten history, her voice carrying the weight of centuries past. With each story, an 1

eerie feeling blossomed among us, binding our group together in shared curiosity and excitement. Through winding tunnels and hidden chambers, she led us. Her knowledge of the underground vaults unmatched. Yet, amidst the eerie tales and chilling whispers, a bond formed between us, forged in the flickering shadows, silent footsteps and echoing laughter from Sarah.

As we emerged from the depths of the vaults, she bid us farewell with a cryptic smile, leaving us with memories of an unforgettable journey through Edinburgh's haunted history. In that brief encounter, amidst the darkness, friendship had blossomed,

illuminating our path with a shared sense of adventure and togetherness. And we thought that was it. But oh no. A walk on the dead

That was not the last we had seen of Sarah. As the temperature fell, and the sun slowly sank, the moon appeared, and the dark took over the streets of Edinburgh. We were meeting Sarah again. But this time, in a debatably worse spot than earlier.

She beckoned us to Greyfriars Graveyard, where history and legend intertwined among the ancient tombstones. As we followed her into the depths of the graveyard, she wove tales of ghostly apparitions and lingering spirits, her words painting vivid images of the supernatural. Beneath our feet, she revealed, lay the resting place of approximately 400,000 souls, each with a story to

tell, and each adding to the eerie ambiance of the cemetery. With the somber surroundings, a sense of discomfort grew in our group, forged in the shared experience of exploring the macabre and mysterious.

In the presence of Sarah, we found ourselves drawn together by a mutual fascination with the unknown, our imaginations ignited by her captivating storytelling. As we reluctantly departed Greyfriars Graveyard, the memory of our bizarre encounter lingered, leaving us with a newfound appreciation for the haunting beauty of Edinburgh's history.

Lørdag d. 6. april tog Padel Tennis med bus og tog til København og derefter fly til Malaga. Det var en lang rejsedag, så det var mega fedt, da de endlig ankom til hotellet Myanmar i Fuengirola med (kold) pool og 5 padel-baner. Søndag startede padel-spillet med at eleverne fik nogle spanske trænere. De var sindssygt dygtige og formåede virkelig at motivere og rykke eleverne. Om eftermiddagen gik elevner op til fortet Castillo Sohail, hvor de havde en flot udsigt over Fuengirola. Mandag og onsdag havde de to træningspas hver dag med de effektive trænere samt kampe. Onsdag havde de også en yogatime med yogainstruktøren Marimar, som kom fra Finca al Limon lige udenfor Fuengirola.

Saturday, April 6th, Padel Tennis travelled by bus and train to Copenhagen and then by plane to Malaga. It was a long day of travelling, so it was amazing when they finally arrived to the hotel Myanmar in Fuengirola with its (cold) pool and 5 padel courts. Sunday, the padel game began. The students were taught by Spanish coaches, who were insanely good and truly managed to motivate and push the students. In the afternoon, they students saw the Castillo Sohail fort, where they had a great view of Fuengirola. Monday and Wednesday had two training sessions with the efficient coaches. Wednesday, they had a yoga class with the instructor Marimar who was from Finca al Limon.

Hver morgen kl. 9 holdte Sejlads holdet et skippermøde for at diskutere dagens plan. Vejr- og vindforholdene var stort set perfekte, så nogle dage sprang de over møderne for at sejle afsted tidligt om morgenen. Andre dage var der dog kraftige vinde, som tvang dem til at blive i Aegina. Når de ikke tog ud for at sejle besøgte de bl.a. The Temple of Apollo, svømmede i det fine vand og tog lange gåture langs den gamle olivenlund Elaonas. Det var en fantastisk oplevelsesrig rejse!

Every morning at 9am Sailing had a Skipper’s meeting to discuss plan of the dat. The weather and wind conditions were pretty much perfect, so some days they skipped the meetings so to sail out early. However, other days there were strong winds that forced them to stay in Aegina for the day. When they weren’t sailing they, among other things, visited the Temple of Apollo, swam in the beautiful water, and took long walks along the ancient olive grove of Elaonas. It was an amazing trip packed with experiences to cherish for life!

På Surfs program stod det blandt andet på morgensurf, løbetur langs kysten, undervisning, kulturel vandretur i Peniche og solnedgange. De har hver dag haft surfbrættet med ude på havet for at nyde bølgerne mens de stadig kunne. I de flotte byer og ved de smukke udsigte blev der fotograferet en masse. Tak for en fantastisk tur! The Surf Team’s programme included morning surf, a run along the coast, classes, a cultural walk in Peniche, and sunsets. Every day they had their surfboards out on the ocean to enjoy the waves while they still could. In cities and by the beautiful views they photographed a lot. Thanks for a great trip!

The new subject Wind & Wing’s trip went to Sardinia. They flew from Billund to Catania where two friendly Italians picked them up and brought them to a cute little town where they stayed for the seven days. They were stationed in a place called Windsurf Village about 400 meters from the beach. They chose their own groups and were divided into different flats. Throughout the trip they bought and made their own food, which was sometimes a challenge but also fun. The students were basically on the beach all day long. They could easily grab their wetsuits and walk down to the beach in five minutes. Down at the beach they could find a little bar as well as the Surf school. The instructors were really nice and patient and the Surf School had a ton of both beginner and advanced equipment. If they went too far downwind the instructors jumped into a boat to rescue them. However, the conditions were perfect! There was wind basically every day along with tons of practice and fun. If there was no wind they rented kayaks and SUP’s as well as visited a secret lagoon where they jumped of the cliffs. 408

Det nye fag Wind & Wings rejse gik til Sardinien. De fløj fra Billund til Catania, hvor to venlige italienere hentede dem og bragte dem til en sød lille by, hvor de skulle bo i syv dage. De blev indkvarteret på et sted, som hed Windsurf Village, ca. 400 meter fra stranden. Eleverne valgte deres egne grupper og blev inddelt i forskellige lejligheder. Under hele turen købte og lavede de deres egen mad, hvilket nogle gange var en udfordring, men stadig sjovt. Eleverne var stort set på stranden hele dagen lang. De kunne nemt tage våddragterne på og gå ned til stranden på fem minutter. Nede på stranden var der en lille bar og en surfskolen. Instruktørerne var virkelig søde og tålmodige, og surfskolen havde masser af udstyr både til begyndere og øvede. Hvis eleverne kom for langt ud i modvind, hoppede instruktørerne i en båd for at redde dem. Forholdene var dog perfekte! Der var vind stort set hver dag og masser af øvelse og sjov. Hvis der ingen vind var, så lejede de kajakker og SUP’er samt besøgte en hemmelig lagune, hvor de sprang ud fra klipperne. 06.-14.04.2024

Clock strikes 2 and the plane finally connects with ground once again. The flight was delayed. We walked through the dark and rainy streets of Edinburgh, to then finally reach our hostel. Princess Street Hostel. The beds were black steel frames, like one from a prison. But we were going to stay there for the next 5 days. It was just about settling in. There was no other option.

During Creative Weekend the creative talents were sat free with painting, embroidery, handmade jewellery, and baking. They got closer to each other and explored all sides of their imaginations. D O N U T FAC TORY Donut Factory slog dørene op for kun én nat og der blev lavet over 250 mundvandsdonuts! Stort tak til Jesper og Camilla for at handle og tilberede frostinger. Aktiviteten var en stor succes og et højdepunkt for ugen. The Donut Factory opened its doors for one night only and over 250 mouthwatering donuts were made! Many thanks to Jesper and Camilla for shopping and preparing the frostings. The activity was a great success and a highlight of the week.

Graderne toppede de 20 og eleverne kunne derfor nyde nogle aftener udendørs. Det gjorde de bl.a. ved, at finde sup boards frem, hvor de kunne spejle følelsen af fællesskab vandet.

With temperatures topping 20 degrees, the students enjoyed some evenings outdoors. One of the ways they did this was by finding some sup boards, so they could reflect some togetherness in the water’s surface. together.

Our Full host students were on a trip to sunny Copenhagen, where they visited Tivoli Gardens, went on a boat tour, and saw the Little Mermaid up close! G A RDE N PA R T Y “Jeg skriger, du skriger, vi skriger alle efter is.” En dejlig solskinsdag i Danmark kan vil ikke fejres på andre måder end med lækker is! Der var mange glade elever, som huskede deres “tak,” besøgte Ranumhus. Nogle elever følte sig eventyrlystne og prøvede guf for første (og ikke sidste) gang. Der var endda også frivillige som hjalp med både servering og oprydning. “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.” A sunny day in Denmark can’t be celebrated in any other way than eating delicious ice cream! Several happy students who remembered their ‘thank you’ visited Ranumhus. Some even felt adventurous and tried ‘guf’ for the first ( and not the last) time. There was even volunteers who helped with both the serving and cleaning.

What a night! Prom was one of the most memorable nights of the year! 500 young people turned up in fine suits, colourful dresses, and radiating energy. The students were first photographed in front of the main building, and they then gathered for welcome drinks in the sports hall. Later, the kitchen serves a delicious 3-course

menu. There were speeches and music both from the students and teachers, and finally they danced the much practised Lec Lanciers. At the end of the evening, the teachers had prepared a comedy show, which finished the evening off with big laughs from all students. Thank you for a fantastic Prom!

L A S T DAY OF S CHOOL

Dagen efter gallafest blev det tid til efterskoleårets sidste skoledag. Selvom vejret ikke var med os hele vejen, stoppede det os ikke i, at nyde hinandens selskaber over en masse udendørs aktiviteter og dunkning af lærerne. Olav indviede som den første vandbasinnet, da eleverne skiftevis kunne forsøge sig med, at dunke ham. Dernæst fik eleverne mulighed for, at dunke en lang række af efterskolens andre lærere ned i vandet. Køkkenet stillede op med stor buffet af mad, som bl.a. bød på cheeseburgers, wraps, nudler og dumplings.

The day after the gala party, it was time for the last day of the after-school programme. Although the weather wasn’t with us all the way, it didn’t stop us from enjoying each other’s company over a lot of outdoor activities and dunking the teachers. Olav was the first to inaugurate the water basin as students took turns dunking him. Next, the students had the opportunity to dunk many of the other teachers at the after-school programme into the water. The kitchen provided a large buffet of food, including cheeseburgers, wraps, noodles and dumplings.

I Outdoorweekend har vi været en tur til Viborg og camperet i Uhrehøje med verdens sejeste elever! Vi har været til vands med kajakker og i luften med klatrereb. AC TIV IT Y DAYS På Ranum Efterskole College har vi til og med uge 25 aktivitetsdage. Her kan eleverne for hver dag tilmelde sig en aktivitet, som enten foregår ude eller inde i huset. Aktiviteterne har bl.a. været sejlads med tur mod Livø, islænderridning, og kunst på skolens ydre facader. At Ranum Efterskole College we have activity days until week 25. For each day, students can sign up for an activity that takes place either indoors or outdoors. Activities have included sailing with a trip to Livø, Icelandic horseback riding, and art on the school’s exterior facades.

On Wednesday evening, awards and titles were handed out to students who have made themselves most noteworthy in certain categories, such as Couple of the Year, Miss & Mr. Ranum, Humour of the Year and Cuckoo of the Year. Before the show started, all students gathered on the red carpet and had their festive photos taken in front of gold hangings!

Den sidste aften med årgang 23/24 blev i den grad afholdt i ånden af togetherness. Det var et af efterskoleårets helt store højdepunkter, der kom på skemaet til outrougen: Nemlig Dream Festival! Festivallen blev afholdt i Næsby, hvor der var plads til både streetfood, telte og stor musikscene!

The last evening was held in the spirit of togetherness. One of the highlights of the year was on the schedule for the final week: Dream Festival! The festival was held in Næsby, where there was room for street food, tents and a large music stage!

Musikprogrammet bød bl.a. på vores helt egne DJ’s fra Ranum, “Bangerang, Chechi & Ragga” og DJ Paavig & Hvolby. Derudover optrådte kunstnere som ICEKIID, Selmani og Emil Lange, der var den store surprisekunstner på plakaten!

Som enden på efterskoleåret afsluttede vi med den traditionelle dimission, eller også bedre kendt som Den Store Tudedag, for både elever, forældre og ansatte. Der blev overrakt priser, givet taler og sunget sange, der fik tårerne til at trille ned af kinderne.

At the end of the after-school year, we concluded with the traditional graduation ceremony, better known as the Big Cry Day, for students, parents and staff. Awards were presented, speeches were given and songs were sung that made tears roll down the cheeks.

Der blev bl.a. overrakt Rex-prisen, der overrækkes til en studerende, som vi mener, indeholder de samme værdier om venskab og venlighed, som Rex gjorde. Denne pris gik i år til Ragnheiður Inga Matthíasdóttir. Tusind tak for en mindeværdig dimission, der forløb sig over alle forventningerne!

Årets første elevfest Forældrene til eleverne på Ranum Efterskole College har nu afholdt årets første elevfest i uhyggens tegn. En gennemført fest med skræmmende kostumer og togetherness på højeste plan. Festen foregik i Haverslevhallen med over 50 frivillige forældre, der gjorde det muligt, at skabe en mindeværdig fest for eleverne. Tusind tak for alle de frivillige forældre til arrangementet.

I spend really nice time with the Full Host in Estonia but also on the full host weekends in Denmark. It was a lot of fun!

Really nice moments with the 5 different groups of AFS students for from Italy, Argentina, India and Thailand. We went to different place as Copenhagen, Skagen or Aarhus and did a lot of activities together.

Alejandro’s Time as a Volunteer Now as person with a little more experience, one of the life lessons that I could share with you is that many times we imagine a plan where the line is always goes upwards but many times to reach the goal, we will have a road full of ups and downs. In my case, I had to wait for the opportunity for 3 years, while the world returned to normal because my first plan was to be a volunteer in early 2020 but we all know what happened.

Hi I’m Ale, the volunteer who arrived in Denmark with a bit of uncertainty because his first project (another Efterskole) had had some financial problems and it wasn’t longer possible to develop my experience in it. To be honest, I didn’t worry too much because I was sure that I would make a difference because I was convinced that I was going to give the best of me and that’s how it was. The anecdote stars 2 days before the end of my arrival camp, my mentor told me that I had an interview so I opened the laptop and behind the screen was a guy named Matthew Danaher who told me “Welcome to Ranum Efterskole” and that’s how this beautiful story started to be written… after a bit darkness the light appeared and I can say that I have been very happy enjoying and growing with REC 23-24 generation. Tak for dette fantastiske år!

However, I kept working on the idea and that’s how everything lined up so that in mid2023 I started my experience in the country that since I was in high school, I was posting things about it on Facebook.

Another thought, I would like to share is that you dare to dream awake, many times society may call us crazy but if there is something that fills your heart, go ahead take the courage and commitment it takes and turn that dream into reality, maybe the result will not be what you expect but you will have learned something. Friendly reminder, life will not always give us what we want when we want it, sometimes it’s because it’s not our time or it doesn’t suit us, but I can say that the universe will surprise you, if you keep your patience and remain firm in your desire. Better things will come and may even exceed your expectations. This could be applied to study opportunities, jobs, relationships, etc.

At Ranum Efterskole College I’m very grateful for all the good and not so good experiences that we had as a generation this 23-24. Thank you for giving me new ways of seeing the world and for taking me out of my comfort zone. Each one of you left something in me and I hope I left a good memory in you. Thank you for the greetings with the Pura Vida in the hallways for singing the song Alejandro but most of all for giving me the opportunity to integrate into the school and to feel part of it. I feel blessed to have shared with this amazing generation moments like these: trips, games, festivals, mealtimes, weekends and so many other activities.

Last but not least, a special thanks to the Ranum Efterkole staff who did a great job all year to make the activities go as smoothly as possible! Special thanks to my friends: Marine, Melis, Teresa and Patricia souls that got to know each other in a small town called Ranum.
