Profile In this magazine we have described ideas and profile subject travels. The descriptions are based on below mentioned mission. Values of the school are aimed at preparing learners to manage themselves in a complex and ever-changing world. This is one of the reasons why every profile subject must be shaped in unity between learners and teachers - based on the theme for the trimester in question. It is our experience that the complexity and dynamicy of life is better experienced in a strong community and by being open towards others and the outside world. We are a school of the times, and activities stimulating a sense of community have to be meaningful to learners and teachers alike. The culture subjects bring together different learners and teachers in a unique development process. It is our experience that the guiding relationship established between learners and teachers during travels is the ultimate learning environment. We focus on individual development with respect for the community. Learners and teachers are very diverse and there will be many different priorities and targets during the year under the heading ‘development and education in the committing community’. It is for this reason that we focus on creating a framework that will support these many different interests - and in extension the many new and exciting culture subjects and travels. This strategy also means that self-payment on culture subject travels may vary accordingly.

Subject PROFILE SUBJECTS AT RANUM EFTERSKOLE COLLEGE - IN SHORT: 1st trimester’s profile subjects are chosen prior to school start. Subject groups meet for the first time at the day for new learners in May. During the first period you will practice a set of skills which are to be used during your profile travel. The first period will also prepare you for the selection process before 2nd and 3rd trimesters - Teachers have planned a course that will introduce you to the concept of having a profile, how it is developed and how you are influential. 2nd trimester’s culture subject are chosen in the end of September. Learners and teachers have the opportunity of shaping new profile subjects. The theme for this period is world citizenship and globalisation, and it is through this focus that we will meet other cultures around the world. These profile subjects are called culture subjects and we will prepare an expedition in extension of these subjects, which are to be carried through in Jan/FeB 3rd trimester’s profile subjects are chosen in December. Learners and teachers can once again shape new subjects, and learners are at this stage very active and participatory. The goal is to use experiences from the 1st and 2nd trimesters’ profile subjects and combine interests, activities and cultural meetings. The theme is personal formation, and this process is often activated when our learners meet other cultures on their own terms and use the experiences gained from the first two profile subjects. Travels in 3rd trimester are in beginning of April, before written exams.

Find your inner gamer as we work with strategy and cooperation within competitive gaming. E-sport as a concept have been an active community for some years, but the last 4-5 years it have gained a larger acknowledgement. E-sport is starting to become a hip thing and gamers are no longer stigmatised in the same level as a few years ago. Yes, we are still gaming geeks, but now it is accepted. Fact is that competitive gaming have been a part of the Danish society throughout the last 20 years. Here at Ranum Efterskole we would like to make a culture of accepting every ones interests including the interest in competitive gaming, by giving the learners with this interest a possibility to meet to discuss strategy and experiences with each other. So if you are passionate about capturing the Efterskole life through interviews and photo reports make your own video production or work on your own project. We will have our base in the media room, on the imagination-corridor in the basement, where we work in our nice little workshop. The room is updated with 8 working stations and a large format printer for posters and banners. You are ofcause welcome to bring your own computer to use in class. In the photo part of the class we will learn about photo technic and learn how to use a camera, light and angels so the theme, motive and history in the picture will be clear. This we will combine with the media part of the course, where we will work with the understanding of colors, font types and formats which we can use when we produce amazing posters and digital products. Yoga lifestyle Yoga, is a popular form of training, but it can also become a form of life. The yoga tradition is more than a hundred years old and is both a lifestyle and a different way to view the world. We will explore different yoga positions and meditations exercises, as well as look into the history and traditions of yoga. We will explore the philosophy behind yoga, mindfulness and balance. Moreover, we will experiment with what is best to eat and drink while during yoga. The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it. Thich Nhat Hahn (1992) The travel could go to a Yoga retreat or renting a house where we can explore the world of Yoga, mindfulness and good nutrition. This profile subject is for everyone who wants to know more about the yoga lifestyle and try it on your own body. You might not have tried it before, but if you are curious on what it takes to be ready to try something new and different.

Wintersport If you like fresh air, speed, exercise and loves to have fun – then skiing is just the thing for you. You do not have to be an experienced skier to come, there will be challenges for all! A large part of the preparation for the trip will be physical training, but we will also learn about the area, the most necessary words and gain knowledge about the equipment we need for the trip. Moreover, we will do social activities to get to know each other before the trip. Every day of the trip there will be instructions on how to ski, but there will also be time to practice the days lessons with your friends. In addition, we will have lots of fun and social activities such as picnic in the snow, competitions on the hills and gatherings at the hotel with games and “hygge”. As part of the trip the students will have a joint responsibility for the cooking and activites, which is some of the things we will plan before we go. The plan is to go to Passo Tonale in Italy, as it has a good chance of snow in week 15. The aim of the course is that the students will learn or improve their skiing skills, to strengthen their social responsibility through cooperation in both the skiing areas and at the hotel; to give them physical training, knowledge of culture and language and knowledge on the different types of equipment and ways to use it. It will be possible to get a guided ski course by local guides. In the classes you will be divided into 6 different groups, you can choose between freeskiing, ski guide, snowboard, beginner, physical training. We will also have activities with the whole group and across the groups, so that we will get to know each other better.

Waterperformance Why choose waterperformance? Choose this profile subject, if you are crazy about water and want to challenge yourself with different sports activities in and on the water! Everyone can join! You will have plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself, no matter if you are at beginner level or experienced, whilst you will be having fun with your friends. What is the content? In this profile subject we will try: WAKEBOARDING and SURFING. Our primary activity will be wakeboarding, because of the perfect conditions of our new 2.0 system at the lake in Rønbjerg Dayz Resort. We will let wind and weather determine what activities we will do each time - with 4 different sport activities to choose from we will most likely always find a match between activity and weather conditions. It is important that you are willing to jump into the water in all kinds of weather, remember that the water is very cold in february. When the weather does not allow us to go in the water we will train or strength and balance on land. Balance training is primarily on indoboards, springboards or trampolines. Strength training is primarily core training. We will also learn about our destination for our expedition - prepare ourselves for the culture we will meet and experience, so that we may do so with an open mind. Besides our profile subject lessons, we will also try to arrange weekend excursions, so we have more time on the water and we will be fully prepared for our expedition at the end of the term.

MOROCCO

What about the expedition? The goal of our expedition is to experience a different culture, feel the diversity and learn about the nature and surroundings of our destination. It is exiting to travel and very educational to test oneself under new conditions. You will find that weather conditions for water sports activities are often better abroad, and we will strengthen our bonds as a group on this trip. The expedition itself is also a goal for the group as a whole to prepare itself for. We will live, eat and act as the locals and we will get to know them as they will get to know us. Who will teach us? At Ranum Efterskole College we have most competent educators and instructors in all subjects. In waterperformance you will be taught by one of Denmark’s best female wakeboarders and prof. guest instructors. They are all expereinced in their sports - in Denmark and abroad - so you will have the best foundation for learning and development!

TE RMS: It is important that you like being in water, that you can swim and that you have the courage to move your personal boundaries. We will adjust our programmes according to the group, wind and weather. SE L F - PAY ME NT: 3. 500 - 5000,- DKK
