At 23 she auditioned for her first musical ‘Blood Brothers’ and although a little young to play Mrs. Johnstone - the Liverpudlian Catholic mother of seven children - author Willy Russell was so captivated by her voice th a t Jie insisted wardrobe & make-up went to work to ‘age’ th e ydung actress. Her portrayal of/Mrs. Johnstone has become so popular th a t she still returns to the role after 27 years. ' ; ? '-I n 1992 Rebecca devised, co-directed and starred in ‘Hollywood Ladies’ - a tribute to her mahy influences from the Silver Screen - among them Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, Julie Andrews and Grade Fields. Together with her company of fourteen singers and dancers she was awarded Best Musical Review in 1992.

She was very proud to be invited to sing for th e King of Norway at his Coronation in 1991 and performed several times for The British Royal Family.

Her recording career began in 1985 with a Top Twenty single ‘Putting On The Show’ which she performed on ‘Top of the Pops’, quickly followed by ‘Mr. Love’ th e soundtrack from the Davi, Putnam film of the same name. Rebecca has been presented with awards for her albums ‘Ovation - a tribute to the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber,' ‘Broadway by Storm’ produced by Nigel Warren Green and conducted by the legendary Harry Robinowitz and ‘Irejand-by^Sform’. In 2000 she released ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ - recorded with sixty wonderful musicians and produced

by Frank McNamara. Her CD ‘Celtic and Broadway” was released by Sony MtoTicJrL-2003 and continues to sell around the world. Her latest album ‘The Essential Rebecca Storm’ is a double CDconsisting of a live recording of her sell out concert at Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre and a studio album produced by her husband and Musical Director Kenny Shearer.

With numerous concerts, radio and television appearances around th e world, Rebecca enjoys a busy and varied career.

After many years in London’s West End theatre world, Rebecca has now m ade Irefaftd-bef-home and is more than thrilled with the honour of having her handprints set on the famous ‘Gaiety Theatre Walk Of Fame’.

The role of Dolly Levi in th em u sical was originally w ritten for Hollywood star Ethel M erman. She, however, turned it dow n as did a slew of well-known th e a tre stars o f th e day including Mary Martin and Nancy Walker. Carol Channing eventually landed th e part and created in Dolly her signature role which would forever m ore define her career.

Jerry Herman (m usic anrf-lyrics) and Michael Stew art (book) too k th e plot of Thornton Wilder's 1938 flop ‘The M erchant ofV onkers’ and ad ap ted itiiL become ‘The M atchmaker,’ re-writing m any sections and Expanding th e role of Dolly Levi^The show was an instan t hit and w as subsequently m ade into a fe atu re film of th e sam e n am e starring Shlffiey.Booth.

Following som e rocky out-of-tow n tryouts in Detroit and W ashington, D.C. th e creators m ade m a jo r' changes to th e script and score, including th e addition of th e song, "Before th e Parade Passes By." By now, th e show had been re-titled ‘Dolly, A Damned Exasperating W om an’, but. w hen Producer, David Merrick heard th e legendary Louis A rm strong’s version of th e title song he instantly re-nam ed it ‘Hello, Dpflyl’ In fact, 1964 as th e show was opening on Broadway Armstrong's recording of th e song, "Hello, Dolly!” rose to num ber one on th e Billboard pop chart m aking Armstrong, now 63, th e oldest person, tjp ever accomplish th a t feat. In th e process, Armstrong also dislodged The Beatles "Can't Buy Me Love" from tfte-ouipber-one position th e y had occupied for 141consecutive w eeks with th re e different songs - indeed Dolly destined fo r greatness!

Gearoid Grant is a Dubliner. He graduated with a B Mus. degree from University College Dublin in 1968 and since th en he has combined a freelance career as conductor with a career in music education. For 35 years he worked as ‘th e music teacher’ in th e FG Secondary School, Bunclody, where he had over 25Q,students playing wind, brass and rock instrum ents in th e biggest and loudest band in th e country! This school band has performed in m any locations including 5 trips to America. Gearoid has worked for over 30 years w ith th ^ National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and as conductor and as music director of th e Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society.

In addition to his work w ith th e National Youth Orchestra, Gearoid has conducted all th e principal orchestras in Ireland, th e National Symphony Orchestra, th e RT£ Concert Orchestra, th e Ulster Orchestra and th e Irish Chamber Orchestra. He has also ^worked w ith many orchestras in Europe and th e USA. Gearoid devised and conducts th e acclaimed series “Music in th e Classroom" which introduces music to 30,000 Irish children^mriually._ Since 1999 Gearoid has conducted th e Hallelujah Christmas concert annually a t The O2, Dublin w here rtine tho usand primary school children come to g e th e r to sing a w ide repertoire including popular and classical Christmas music.

Marina Kealy - Choreographer Marina has enjoyed great success as a dancer and choreographer performing th roug hout Ireland on television a n d in all major venues. Her work, ranging from musical to opera has earned her many accolades with career highlights to -d a te including winning both th e AIMS and Bangor Festival’s Best Choreographer Award for ‘Me and My Girl,’ going on to co-choreograph th e professional production of th e sam e show at th e Olympia Theatre and also choreographing th e Dublin premiere of th e iconic show ‘The Producers’for The R&R in 2009? ; M arina’s association with th e Society began initially as a dancer and progressed to choreographing musicals and concerts a t The National Concert frail arrd-Gaiely Theatre, too num erous to m ention. She has choreographed m any of th e Society’s Gilbert & Sullivan productions over th e years including ‘TheM ikado,’ ‘lolanthe,’ ‘The Yoeman of th e Guard’ and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ to nam e but a few. Last year she choreographed th e critically acclaimed ‘Oklahoma!’ for The R&R a t The National Concert Hall and is delighted to continue her association as iC h o reo g ra p h er for th is Centenary season. She has been Music Director and Conductor for many show premieres including ‘Anything Goes’ in 1991 with DAYMS directed by Brian Merriman and was awarded Best Music Director at the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera for Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Into the Woods.’This and conducting her late father, Chris, in ‘Annie’ at the Olympia, she regards as her highlights to date. i

As a performer, Jackie has enjoyed playing many roles in the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire for several musical societies indyding-£estival Productions,The R&R and Glasnevin Musical Society amongst / others. Appearances to-date include Ruth in ‘The Pirates of Penzance,’ The Duchess o f Plaza Toro in ‘The Gondoliers’ and Katisha in ‘The Mikado,’ a role for which sh e received the Best Character Actress Award at The Buxton International Festival in 2007 and which she is to reprise once again later this year following an invitation to return with Lyric Opera. More recently she has appeared as Carlotta in WexfordXight Opera’s presentation of ‘Follies.’

She is delighted to continue her association with The R&R again during their centenary celebrations and looks forward to their gala concert in June of this year.

Nora O'Rourke - Production Manager Nora joined the R&R as ASM to Stage Manager Seamus O’NejikShe has worked in all the backstage departments including Props, Lighting', Sound, Stage M anagement and Production Management for the R&R in both thejGaiety Theatre and The National Concert Hall. >*” ' rC ’ " Nora has acted as Stage Manager and Lighting Designer/Operator for many " societies and groups, notably, St. Louis, Loreto, Take Four and John Player TOPS (Aer Lingus) and has stage m anaged and lit many award winning shows in Waterford and Bangor. She is a recipient of an AIMS award for Best Stage Manager and has conducted workshops on Stage Managment.

Gallop"). Horace arrives with his date, but she proves neither as rich nor as elegant as Dolly had implied; furtherm ore she is soon bored by Horace and leaves, as Dolly had planned she would.

Cornelius, Barnaby, and their date s arrive, unaw are th a t Horace is also dining^at th e restaurant. Irene and Minnie, inspired by th e restaurant's opulence, order t h e m enu's most expensive items. Cornelius and Barnaby grow increasingly anxious as they discover they have little more th a n a dollar left. Dolly makes her trium phant return to th e Harmonia Gardens and is greeted in style by th e staff ("Helio, Dolly!") She sits in the now -em pty seat a t Horace's table and proceeds to eat a large, expensive dinner, telling th e exasperated Horace th a t no m atter w h at he says, she will not marry him. Barpaby and Horace Hail waiters at t h e same time, and in th e ensuing confusion each drops his wallet a n d inadvertently picks up th e other's. Barnaby is delighted th a t he can now pay th e restaurant bill, while Horace finds only a little spare change. Barnaby and Cornelius realize th a t th e w allet m ust belong to Horace. Cornelius, Irene, Barnaby and Minnie try to sneak o u t during the 'Th&Polka Contest", but Horace recognizes th e m and spots Ermengarde and Ambrose n ig h t court.

A chastened Horace Vandergelder finally acfmifs th a t he needs Dolly in his life, but Dolly is unsure about th e marriage until her late husband sends her a sign. A native of Dublin, Michael began his dance training at the age of 10 with the Carmel Carpenter School of Dance and over the next 12 years he studied virtually every genre of dance from tap to ballet and beyond. Michael has been teaching dance since the age of 17 when he led freestyle dance troop ‘Opus 31’to International acclaim. For a number of years Michael sang and danced with numerous Irish cabaret artists in Clontarf Castle and Moran’s Red Cow Hotel. He ha^ the great fortune of choreographing for many musical societies in Ireland. Shows include ‘Titanic,’ ‘Brigadoon,’ ‘The New Pirates of Penzance,’ ‘Hello,DoBy!' ‘Annie Get Your Gun,’ ‘My Fair Lady,’ ‘Andy Capp’ and ‘A nything Goes,’ Later this year Michael will choreograph ‘A Christmas Carol’with Belfast Operatic Society at The Opera House,Belfast.

Jennifer is delighted to be making her debut with the R8tR in this, their 100th year.

Originally from Limerick, but now a regular performer with musical societies in Dublin, Jennifer was a member of Frontline Dance School from th e ages of 8 to 18, taking on many different roles. She also played leading roles such as the N arrator in ‘Joseph’ and M aria in ‘The Sound of Music’ in school jiroductrons and performed i n H ^ pantomime, cabaret andTops of the Town. While at university in Wales she also studied voice and returned to Ireland to sing as a soloist alongside the renowned baritone Austin Gaffney, at Killarney Manor Banquet for three years. In recent years, she has secured a number of nominations from the Association of Irish Musical Societies for her performances and has scooped awards for Best Singer 2009 (for Mrs. Lovett in ‘Sweeney Todd’), Best Comedienne 2010 (for Ruth in ‘The Pirates of Penzance’), and Best Comedienne 2012 (for Char/ty i n ‘Sweet Charity’).

Tara McSwiney - Minnie Fay Tara was introduced to music at the age of 4 when she joined the DIT Junior Music School. Tap and ballet classes soon followed and in 2000 she joined F.A.C.T School of Performing Arts with whom she played leading roles such as, Lola in ^ ^ ; ‘Copacabana1, Iris in ’Fame' and Sandy in 'Grease.' During herflm e at F.A.C.T. she was asked to perform with I.T.T. Corporate Entertainment and The Halleluiah Gospel Choir with whom she performed at lnany corporate events, in ma'hy venues around the country. \ In 2008 Tara began studying vocal performance at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama under vocal teacher Jennifer Hamilton and repetiteur Celine Kelly. She is presently studying with Colette McGahon-Tosh and Trudi Carberry. Since beginning her vocal training, Tara has won three consecutive scholarships to attend The Yorke Trust summer opera course in Norfolk, England. She has also enjoyed success in Electric Ireland's Feis Ceoil competitions and DIT's own in-house competitions. Successes include, first place in ^Shov^boat^'The Messiah Cup', and 'The Lieder Examination' (DIT, 2011-2013), and first place in 'The Thomas Moore €up' and 'The Rathmines and Rathgar Cup' (Feis Ceoil, 2012). She also undertook the role of Venus in Offenbach's 'Orpheus In The Underworld' with DIT in 2011. Chorus performances include, Bizet's 'Carmen', Verdi's 'Madame Butterfly' and 'La Traviata', with Lyric Opera at The National Concert Hall, 'The Wizard of Oz' with Festival P r o d u c t io n s , also at The National Concert Hall, and 'Fiddler On The Roof with Jim Molloy Productions at the Gaiety Theatre. This is Tara's first appearance with The R&R and she is delighted to be part of this wonderful production.

- Ermendgarde Alison Vard Miller was born in Dublin and has worked extensively in the entertainment industry since the age of seven. In 2000 Alison started her professional career in theatre as an actress and dancer in 'Puss in Boots’ in The Olympia Theatre. Since then Alison has appeared in numerous pantomimes, cabarets and concerts in major theatrical venues. ^ In 2001 Alison released her own single and was invited onto ‘The Late Late Show’ where she has also performed as backing vocalist for Tara Blaise, Conrfor McKeon and Ryan Dolan to name a few.

In 2005 Alison opened ‘The Miss Ali Stage School’ which is based in her own private dance studio in Hamley’s, DundrumTown Centre. With over two hundred students attending her stage school, Alison has 'irected and choreographed ten sell-out shows in The Mill Theatre and most recently ‘Little Strangers’ in The Olympia Theatre.

Alison studied in the Gaiety School of Acting and was^ awarded an Associates Diploma in Acting Performance. She has toured overseas as lead vocalist with th e famous Irish Show “Wilde Nights” and has performed with SMCO for the last two years in ‘Footloose’ and ‘Hair, the Musical.’ In 2011 she received the AIMS nomination foHBesi-Supporting Actress.

In May 2013, Alison will be heading to Malmo, Sweden to represent Ireland in the Eurovision 2013 with Ryait Dolan. Alison is delighted to be performing in ‘Hello, Dolly!’with The R&R and would like to wish everyone involved the very best of luck! .

Mackenzy graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis on Musical Theatre. Originally from Texas, he v moved from Mississippi to New York and toured with a successful children’s theatre company for a year before moving to Dublin. He has enj^yed^uch roles as Ferdinand in ‘The Tempest’for Fortune’s Fool Productions at the Iveagh Gardens; Berger in ‘Hair’ for SMCO at The PavHion Theatre; Jamie in ‘The Laifs Years’ for G.H.P at the Auburn Playhouse; Snoopy \n ‘YAGMCB’for UMT at Ford Arts Centre>Fred in ‘Oklahoma!’ for Rathmines & Rathgar Musical Society at the NCH and Trinculo in ‘The Tempest’for Oxford Shakespeare Festival. He would like to say thank you to those who show their support for him while he reaches his goals and continue to lift him higher, especially his mom. Lastly, a big thank you to his loving and supporting husband, who continues to help him reach the stars.

Gerald Bloomer - Rudolph Gerald Bloomer is a Barrister and a regular competitor and coach on the national equestrian circuit in the sports of dressage and three^day eventing.

Music and drama have been a huge part of Cerald’s life from an early age. Whilst^ school at the King’s Hospital Gerald was a prize winner at the ElectricTrelandFeis Ceoil, the Arklow Feis and the Wesley Feis in singing, piano ajtd dramatic _ monologue competitions. He also enjoyed playing mapy roles including The Artful Dodger in ‘Oliver’ (Bray Musical Society) and Henry Irving in ‘The Actors Nightmare’ at The National Concert Hall.

While studying law at U.C.D. Gerald was an active member of Dramsoc where roles included Mr. Farthing \n ‘Kes,’ Wlthenshawin ‘Dirty Linen,’ and he played the lead of Br/irt/A Day in the Death of Joe Egg’ which was selected to represent U.C.D at the Irish Student Drama Awards Festival in 2004.

Gerald appeared as Dick Deadeye in the R&R’s 2009 production of ‘HMS Pinafore,’ Plsh-Tush in ‘The Mikado’ in 2010 and is delighted to be back with the R&R playing the role of Rudolph Relsenweber in their of luck for the show!

Imelda Bradley - Mrs. Rose Imelda is an active member of The R&R and has performed in many of their productions and enjoyed each and every moment of them.

Imelda has been involved in music since an early age having received qualifications in singing, piano and violin.

Her recent roles for the society include Shandelin ‘Ffddl^r on the Roof,’ /nez in ‘Tfi€~ Gondoliers’ and Praskovia in ‘The Merry Widow.’

Sjnce completing his doctoral studies in UCD four years ago, Michael has worked as a second-level teacher of M athem atics and Science. He joined th e Society in 2004 and this is his 14th production for th e R&R.

A lover of Gilbert & Sullivan, Michael has played m any principal roles in The National Concert Hall including Antonio in ‘The Gondoliers’(for Festival Productions) and Earl M ountararat in ‘lolanthe’, Bill Bobstay in ‘HMS Pinafore’, Pooh-Bah in ‘The Mikado’ and Sergeant of Police in ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ (all for th e R&R). In musicals, Michael has played Captain in ‘Anything Goes’ and Lt. Brannigan in ‘Guys & Dolls’ in th e NCH as weU as Mr. Marks in ‘The Producers’ and Cascada in ‘The Merry W idow’ in th e G a ie ty Theatre.

For Lyric Opera, Michael has performed in th e chorus of m any productions, counting ‘Turandot’, T osca’, ‘I Due Foscari’ and ‘La Boheme’ am ong his favourites. He has also (}|ayed th e minor roles of Flora’s Servant in ‘La Traviata’ and Bogdanovich in ‘The Merry W idow’ (for Lyric Productions). Over th e last th ree years, Michael has been introduced to th e music of Bach via th e JUBILATE choir, recently perform ing th e small part of Judas in ‘St. M atth ew Passion’ during Holy Week.

Complementing his work as a~leacher, Michael has been involved in a num ber o f school productions, serving as Director of ‘HMS Pinafore’ and Asst. Director in ‘Fiddler on th e Roof and ‘Oklahoma!’ over the last three years. He is delighted to be involved in ano th er R&R production in w hat is a m om entous year for th e Society.

Garret Reynolds - Stanley G arret has been a m em ber of The R&R since joining in 2001 for his first show ‘Guys . and Dolls.’ Over th e years h e has enjoyed performing at th e Gaiety Theatre and The National Concert Hall in R&R shows such as ‘The Pirates of Penzance,’ T h e Merry Widow,’ ‘lolanthe,’ ‘The Producers,’ ‘HMS Pinafore,’ and more recently ‘Oklahoma!’

Born in 1913, the year the Society was founded, Chris Bruton was an enthusiastic, hard working and valued member of the R&R since the 1930s, undertaking a myriad of roles both on stage and behind the scenes.

In his early days he specialized in comedy parts, both in C&S and in Musicals, attracttfig particular critical acclairtLfor the part of Hubert in ‘The Student Prince,’ 1948 and Hans Katian in “Wild Violets” in 1943 and 1949. Chris was also Publicity Director in the 1940s In the 1950s he was the R&R’s Stage Manager - his carefully annotated'seripts surviving - finishing in i960 with ‘The Dancing Years’ and ‘Naughty Marietta.’ In the latter, playing Sir Harry Blake,1ie had one Terry Wogan in his cast.

He was the owner of a cine camera and filmed many of the shows he was in or stage managed. These films have generously been presented to the R&R by his family and form an important part of the Society’s archive. In his “day job” Chris was the optician of choice for generations of R&R-ers and he could always be relied upon to supply period spectacles for a character or a prop.

He was a loyal attendee at ACMs and a stringent critic if he felt that standards were slipping - esperi^Ny Ifthe stage sets were not up to standard! In 1972 he created the role of the Rabbi in ‘Fiddler on the Roof - setting the standard against which all subsequent performances of this role are measured.

His last appearance on stage with the R&R was in the 90th Anniversary Musical Extravaganza in the National Concert Hall in April 2003 where he reprised his role of the Rabbi in the ‘Fiddler...’segment. Chris was also 90 years old that year. so this was a very special occasion duly recorded in the programme. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

The R&R and The Feis Ceoil

The R&R has a long and happy association with th e Feis Ceoil. From 1921 to 1934 th e R&R sponsored a “Silver Cup for Dramatic Solo Singing/' Since 1946 th e R&R Cup has been a popular com petition in th e Feis Programme.; A m onetary prize was added in 1974.The Forde-Taylor pjKe^fdr G&S was introduced in 1987. This year, in honour of th e R&R’s Centenaryj/ve “ increased th e prize money to €1,000.00 and € 6 0 0 .0 0 for th e Foriteftaylor ^
