Powerline Genetics is a result of the evolution of a simple idea to begin with the end in mind. Power Genetics feedyards represents a supply chain based on high quality cattle. In order to feed better cattle, you need access to better cattle.

That concept led to a bull marketing business that sells bulls to cattlemen who are involved in the supply chain and continue to make the bulls better as well as accessible to those producers. These bulls are then used to produce some of the highest performing, feed efficient and high carcass merit calves in the world. Finally bringing those calves back into the feedyards to feed, harvest, collect/validate the data and close the loop.

Today the system has evolved into separate entities Power Genetics and Powerline Genetics who will each focus on their strengths and competencies. Power Genetics is a group of feedyards that retain a contract with Cargill to fill a specific need for high quality cattle. Powerline Genetics is a bull marketing business now owned by ABS Global Inc. based on the idea of taking the highest profit proven sires in the country and multiplying them. Each party works to build an incredibly strong supply chain for the industry like no other, focused on growth, efficiency and carcass. Powerline Genetics will continue to develop bulls that provide unique genetics to commercial cattleman who want to be involved in a supply chain. Power Genetics will work with those commercial cattleman to procure calves that will be some of the best feeders found anywhere. A simple concept – begin with the end in mind.

TERMS: Terms of the sale are cash or check payable immediately upon conclusion of the sale and before animals will be removed unless prior arrangements are made with Wade Stephens.

TRUCKING: We encourage everyone to travel as convenient as possible. We will make every effort to assist with trucking arrangements.

GUARANTEE: All bulls have been scrotal measured and fertility tested (BSE) by Powerline Genetics’ veterinarian.

Should any bull fail to breed cows, the matter shall be reported to the seller within six months following sale. The bull will then be returned to the seller who has the right to prove the bull a breeder. If the bull proves to be a nonbreeder, the seller will return purchase price or replace the animal with another of equal value in full settlement and satisfaction. In no event shall seller bear responsibility for more than the purchase price. If a bull becomes a nonbreeder by reason of injury, negligence or mismanagement, the seller’s guarantee shall be void.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over statements in catalog.

LIABILITY: Owners nor sale management assume no liability for any accidents that may occur to the animal after it is sold. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and owners or sale personnel assume no liability for accidents.

LAMENESS/SOUNDNESS GUARANTEE: All bulls have been monitored and examined periodically throughout the growth and development process. Should any bull become lame or physically unsound, the matter shall be reported to the seller immediately or within 30 days of delivery. The bull will then be returned to the seller who has the right to prove the bull as lame. If the bull proves to be lame, the seller will return purchase price, credit the purchase price or replace the animal with another of equal value in full settlement and satisfaction. In no event shall seller bear responsibility for more than the purchase price. If a bull becomes lame by reason of injury, negligence or mismanagement, the seller’s guarantee shall be void.

SEMEN INTEREST: Powerline Bulls may only be used for natural service with animals owned or leased by you. All other uses of Powerline Bulls are strictly prohibited without the prior written consent of ABS, including (without limitation) semen collection, genotyping, or use in or for research and development.

FIRST BREEDING SEASON INSURANCE MORTALITY AND LOSS OF USE COVERAGE Powerline Genetics Co. has arranged to make Insurance available for the first breeding season for all bulls sold in our spring 2018 bull sales. The coverage will provide traditional Full Mortality coverage for death from all natural and accidental causes including life-threatening injuries. The coverage has been extended to include Loss of Use for the first breeding season.

The coverage will be available sale day for those who choose to insure their bulls. The policy will insure Full Mortality of the bulls from the date of sale until September 1, 2018. All mortality claims will require a veterinarian’s examination. Under the Loss of Use extension of coverage, the bull’s inability to naturally service cows must be diagnosed by a veterinarian and immediately report to Powerline Genetics Co. A claim shall occur if after fourteen continuous days following the date of diagnosis and first report, the bull cannot be returned to natural service. Loss of Use Claims will be settles at 80% of the purchase price until July 15, 2018 and 60% of purchase price from July 16, 2018 until September 1, 2018.

The cost of the coverage is 10% of the purchase price of each bull. Powerline Genetics will pay 5% of the purchase price or one-half the cost of the coverage. Thus, the cost of coverage to each buyer will be 5% of the purchase price.

This amount will be added to the cost of your bulls at settlement if the insurance is requested.

Buyers who do not request this coverage sale day will not have Loss of Use Coverage available at a later date. To be eligible for Loss of Use Coverage, a bull must have been determined to be a sound breeder by passing a breeding soundness evaluation as outlined by the Society for Theriogenology.

Salvage, if any, belongs to Powerline Genetics Co. Injured bulls shall be returned to Powerline Genetics Bull Test Center or Powerline Genetics Marketing Specialist before settlement can be made. Applicable settlement will be made after any salvage value has been determined and applied to the applicable settlement. Settlement can be check or credit towards another Powerline Genetics sale.

Welcome cattlemen, to our Annual Powerline Wyoming Sale. This is already our fifth and final sale of the season as well as one of our largest sales. All of the bulls have been PAP tested in Wyoming at 7,200 feet elevation. The offering, in my opinion is the best we have brought to WY since I have been involved.

I want to take time and thank George and Kelly Seward as well as their crew for putting this set of bulls together. This is truly a set of bulls that will add value to your bottom line and to your operation.

We would like to take this opportunity to explain a few changes to this years’ catalog that we feel will assist cattlemen in purchasing their next genetic improvement to their herd. Buying a bull shouldn’t be a chore, so why make it one? Sorting through data can become overwhelming however, similar to the ABS Sire Directory, you will notice yellow highlights on the EPDs. Each one of these yellow highlights represents the Top 25% of all bulls produced, to-date, in the Powerline program. Last year we introduced a quick look at EPDs using a STAR system with 3 and 4 STARs being most favorable for the trait we are demonstrating. You will note that every bull presented in this sale is a 3 or 4 STAR bull for carcass quality representing our tag line -growth, carcass, and efficiency.

Most seed stock producers have a good sales pitch/talk. Powerline is walking the walk and making a difference! The buzz word at Powerline Genetic is … differentiation. Ten years of intake testing and use of Powerline produced genetics within our program means we have not only collected thousands of individual records but generations of dry matter intake data, building towards an untapped potential for a reduction in cost of beef cattle production. Powerline’s goal is to produce bull power that will work regardless of the production scheme or location. Our focus goes beyond traditional whole herd data collection to include harvest metrics, truly “gate to plate” production data. Based on proven production data, we LOVE to tell our genetic story.

USING THE POWERLINE STAR SYSTEM

Powerline’s focus on Growth, Carcass and Efficiency provides endless options to select a bull that will improve your herd for these traits. But how do you boil down all the information? Using the STARs provides a straightforward means of categorizing a bull. Powerline bulls are assigned a STARS based on their ranking in the current calves percentile chart. Bulls with 4-Stars (****) have the higher percentile rankings in the trait of interest. So if you want improve on a trait in your herd without having to focus on a specific numeric value for an EPD the STARS are your tool of choice.
