Anne and I welcome you to our “Gretsch Fall Classic!” It’s absolutely our favorite time of year here in Georgia! After the long hot days of summer, we welcome the cool refreshing air of October! Our Angus herd has continued to grow in both numbers and quality, and we look forward to sharing the fruits of our harvest! By adding a spring calving herd to our program we have been able to offer an exciting set of two year old bulls to our fall offering. We have had so many people say that their breeding program starts at Thanksgiving and that they needed our genetics prior to that. These fall calving herds often breed heifers by the first of November, so an October 21st sale meets those needs! You will be excited to see that we have a top cut of embryo transfer and A.I sired bulls in our line up! There is nothing more majestic than a big rugged powerful Angus bull, and we have a large selection to choose from!

Our cup runneth (a true southern word) over in the female department! We have selected a beautiful group of females out of the heart of our program! With the use of embryo transfer and the help of our fine cooperators, our herd has grown beyond capacity. The advantage of these great breeding tools is that we are able to offer our finest females, and still be able to maintain the cutting edge quality we need moving forward. You’ll love the pairings of sire groups in our open heifers. We have selected powerful females out of each class of cattle, and we let the cows speak for themselves! After many years in the Angus business we have learned to select for cattle that work well in the Southeastern Cow Calf country. Cattle that can handle the heat, humidity, and ever changing moisture conditions and the ranchers that manages them!

Terms and Conditions Settlement should be made on your purchase at the conclusion of the sale. Cattle will not be released from the premises until payment is received in full. Purchaser assumes the risk of death or injury to their livestock immediately after the animal is sold. Insurance is available to insure the animal until delivery to the buyer’s ranch, at the buyer’s cost. Gretsch Brothers Angus will provide health certificates for interstate shipment to any of the lower 48 states. Cattle will sell under the terms and conditions as recommended by the American Angus Association.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPDs) Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an "I", and may or may not include the animal's own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. Growth Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Docility (Doc), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized.

Maternal Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire's genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf's weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Ultrasound Adjusted Measurements % IMF, The percent intramuscular fat (marbling) adjusted to 365 days of age.

Heritability for marbling is in the moderate range.

Rib Fat, This is the off-test backfat measured in inches adjusted to 365 days of age.

Ribeye Area EPD (REA), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires. $Value Indexes Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Cold Springs Farm This is the story of a neighbor. I met Dr. John Stuedemann about 6 years ago. We were introduced at a Madison County Cattlemen’s meeting. This was right before we held our first bull sale here at home. I invited John to John & Trish Studemann come join us for the sale and eat lunch with us. Being a kind fellow Angus breeder he graciously came and enjoyed the event. Through the years John and I have shared ideas Cody & Morgan Floyd about Angus cattle and farm life in general. John’s cattle have always spoken well for themselves, and his advice has been some that I have latched on to in an effort to improve our own operation! John had mentioned in the past that he would like to market some cattle together, but as time slips by neither one of us followed up until now. In early August, I received a call from Cody Floyd (the herdsmen for Cold Springs) asking if we would consider marketing a few of their 2-year-old bulls along with ours. Earlier that week, Anne and I had just talked about the large number of 2 year old bulls that we were losing out of the sale due to injury. I met with Cody and the rest is in this catalog! These bulls are AWESOME! We are prouder than ever to team up with Cold Springs and “share” the ring! Col. Jones and I sat down with John, Trish, and Cody and learned more about what drives their decisions in cattle breeding and customer service. Docility, udder quality, and muscle would lead the way in their breeding and management decisions. As I pen this, I realize that John is in the fight of his life with cancer. Rest assured that his legacy is intact! The progress that John has made improving his farm and breeding his cattle is great! But, the customers, friends, and family he has touched are better for it, and I am one of them… Thanks for calling us!
