Welcome Friends,

Our family looks forward to seeing you at our annual bull and female sale this year! It’s been a very busy and exciting time for the Gretsch family! Our oldest son, Will, married Amanda last November, and our youngest son, Zach, married Autumn this past spring. Those are very special times in our lives that bring family in from far and wide and help us to focus on the next generation. Change is inevitable in all we do. This year, Anne and I opened up a BBQ restaurant in our community that has blessed us more than our wildest expectations! We love our community and the people from far and wide whom we get to meet and work alongside. Serving Certified Angus Beef and other fine cuts of beef, pork and chicken has been a continuous learning curve. Our mantra in the restaurant is, “When we start with a great product, it’s a lot easier to end with a great product!”

The cattle business is no different! Starting with a great bull or female sure makes it easier to end with that “Great One.” In this sale, we offer some very powerful 2-year-old bulls that are ready for heavy service. In our younger bulls, we have some of the best bulls we have ever raised! We send the catalog out with bulls in sire-group order. We encourage you to ask questions and let us know your desires in a bull. We are glad to help!

The Gretsch Brothers Angus Females that we offer in this sale are a great opportunity to add to or get into the registered Angus business. With Northeast Georgia leading the way with “graded feeder calf sales,” our customers have seen a huge increase in the prices received for their calves.

Settlement should be made on your purchase at the conclusion of the sale. Cattle will not be released from the premises until payment is received in full. Purchaser assumes the risk of death or injury to their livestock immediately after the animal is sold. Insurance is available to insure the animal until delivery to the buyer’s ranch, at the buyer’s cost. Gretsch Brothers Angus will provide health certificates for interstate shipment to any of the lower 48 states. Cattle will sell under the terms and conditions as recommended by the American Angus Association.

All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk. The owners or sale staff assumes no liability for property loss or accidents that may occur.

Herd Health

All cattle will be accompanied by proper health certificates for immediate shipment to any of the lower 48 states.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPDs) Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an "I", and may or may not include the animal's own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. Growth Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Docility (Doc), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility.

It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized.

Maternal Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire's genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf's weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Ultrasound Adjusted Measurements % IMF, The percent intramuscular fat (marbling) adjusted to 365 days of age. Heritability for marbling is in the moderate range.

Rib Fat, This is the off-test backfat measured in inches adjusted to 365 days of age.

Ribeye Area EPD (REA), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire's progeny compared to progeny of other sires. $Value Indexes Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Targeting the Brand To receive this mark, the animal must have a mimum of +.53 on Marbling and $33.97 on $G.
