Frank Cattle and Genetics 2022 Bull Sale

FERTILITY: All bulls sell as guaranteed breeders. The 2yr old bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam and trich test, all paperwork will be available on sale day. The yearling bulls are guaranteed to pass a breeding soundness exam prior to pickup/delivery or no later than June 1st in the year of purchase. In the event of infertility, a replacement will be made available, or future sale credit will be offered in the amount of the purchase price minus salvage value.

INSURANCE: Aside from infertility, all other guarantees will be made through insurance only.

For any customers that choose to insure their bulls on sale day, Frank Cattle & Genetics will pay 50% of the policy premium. We recommend using Liberty Mutual for all mortality insurance coverage. For further questions regarding these policies Jim can be reached at (970)590-0500 HEALTH: Herd health is among our top priorities, we work closely with Dr. Tharp at the Holyoke Veterinarian Clinic to insure our vaccination protocols are always up to date. All lots in the sale have been tested free of BVD and will be picked up/delivered with a clean bill of health.

DNA: To most accurately represent the cattle in the offering, each lot has been parent verified and tested free of genetic defects within their respective breed unless noted otherwise. Additionally, all bulls offer genomically enhanced EPD’s through Angus GS on the Angus Bulls and GeneSeek GGP on the Red Angus bulls to improve the accuracy of their performance predictors.

DELIVERY: Bulls will be wintered free of charge at our grow yard located in Lodgepole, NE until April 1st. All bulls will be delivered free of charge within 400 miles of that location. We ask that all females be picked up or delivery arrangements be made within 2 days of the sale.

SEMEN INTEREST: Frank Cattle & Genetics will be selling full possession and salvage value on all bulls in the offering, but reserves the right to 1/3 semen interest.

With all of the craziness happening in the world around us, I’ve never been more excited to write this letter. Not only is everyone in our family healthy, but god willing it will be growing by one. Kendra and I are looking forward to welcoming our first child in early August! While the process of getting to this point seemed out of reach for too many years, the thought of a new Frank running around our place will be the missing piece to our puzzle.

Along with the news of our new addition, It’s a relief to finally write everyone in more prosperous times. Albeit long over due, cattle and commodity prices are finally at profitable levels for the first time in years and I’m proud of the resiliency it has taken our fellow neighbors and customers to get to this point. This business can be thankless, but the reward of working along some of the toughest and most resourceful people in the world is a blessing that we are thankful for each and every day.

I could write a novel about the opportunity this incredible son of SAV Rainfall presents, but honestly the bull speaks for himself. Everyone that saw him in Denver admired him for his unbelievable muscle shape and substance, but it’s his nearly perfect feet and legs that we desperately need in the Angus breed. As a genetic investment I don’t know how a person could go wrong, his sire is now deceased with limited semen availability, his foot EPD’s are in the top 5% of the breed and he offers a top 10% $M. If you are on the hunt for the next great female maker, Broadwater is your man!

BLACK ANGUS YEARLING BULLS

I whole heartedly believe in 10 years, we are going to talk about Rainfall as a legendary maternal sire. These cattle are stout, they are awesome footed, and have strong Angus character. When it comes to EPD’s this lot 2 bull doesn’t fit the narrative of most mainstream Angus. But if you ask the right questions, you’ll realize that the computers have some flaws in their logic. This bull is bred to thrive in our environment, just like his beautiful mother. She has a 366 day calving interval, never misses A.I., and has weaned each of her first three calves off at over 700 lbs.

That type of performance is how we quantify the value of cattle at our ranch.

This Tehama Tahoe Sire group is probably the most consistent we have ever produced, and the cherry on top is Lot 3. I don’t think we have ever bred a bigger bodied, more rugged designed, and masculine featured calving ease bull. As most of you know, I’m unwilling to breed cattle strictly based on EPD’s. But when you factor in the stats, this stud really starts to stand out as a big-time purebred bull. I’d venture to guess there aren’t many top 10% $C bulls in the breed that are this massive, and correct on their feet and legs.

1014 is a stout mix of maternal strength and real-world performance, weaning off his beautiful uddered 3yr old dam at 736 lbs. When you see one, you have seen them all. These Tahoes are peas in a pod! They really do offer a great opportunity to put together a stout group of heifer bulls that will sire heavy sons and the most productive daughters. This 1010 bull is out of a 3 yr old playbook daughter that gave it all to her calf. In years past we used Playbook very heavily, and those daughters are starting to rise to the top of the herd.

This 1023 bull rounds out his sire group with a bang, it’s hard to find a negative BW bull with his length of spine and extra hip shape. This lot 7 bull goes back to the pathfinder PA Erroline 005-B1039 cow of Mike Pilakowski’s, and his dam Carter’s Erroline F135 is quickly proving her worth as one of our leading performance donors. This mating has far exceeded my expectations! This big bodied and expressive muscled calving ease phenom is just my kind! This True North sire group has been one of my favorite’s all year, and since weaning they have really turned it on. 1017 is a maternal brother to the Impression 507 bull of ours that had a profound impact on our herd. Contrary to his genomic report, this big time calving ease bull is easily the longest bodied and growthiest of his sire group, and I’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking to bring some eye appeal back in to their herd.

Chances are if you have come to our place to look at cattle, I have probably shown you the 4055 donor. She’s my favorite cow, not only does she have a perfect udder, and unforgettable style, but she has been conventionally flushed each of the last 3 years and bred back A.I. on the next cycle every single time. Last spring I told Kendra Red Cloud was the best baby calf that had ever been born on our Ranch. Of course that was an easy statement to make, knowing that his impeccable full sister “Ruby” is our all-time high selling Red angus female to the Bedwell family of MO and TC Reds of WI. Easy as it was at the time, he has certainly lived up to the hype. I have yet to see another Red Angus bull that can match his extra performance and style. I just have to smile and shake my head every time I look at this bull. If he weren’t a category 1B, I’m not sure I could let go of him. He’s one of the stoutest featured and most masculine bulls of the offering, regardless of color. He reads calving ease on paper and his mother is a beautiful daughter of 5L Defender. BLACK ANGUS COWS In an effort to tighten up our calving window, we have decided to offer an outstanding group of young cows in this year’s sale.

These cows range in age from 3-8yrs old and have already proven their worth to us as many of them have produced sale features in past years. They simply didn’t settle A.I this year and are bred to calve a little later. These cows are expected to calve between March 1st and May 1st and the resulting calves will be registerable, DNA testing will be required to determine the sires of the calves. Every year our bull sale is the grand finale of marketing the previous year’s calf crop. When compiled with the stress of calving season, we are all a little cranky and exhausted by the time we get there. However, we wouldn’t have it any other way! We love this business and are extremely thankful for our crew that has our back every single day. Without JJ, Manuel, and Javier there is no way we could accomplish all that we do throughout the year.

Along with our full-time crew that diligently takes care of the herd, we have a core group of friends and neighbors that we owe a lot of our success to. There is no way we could get through picture days without the help of Kendra’s sister Victoria and her husband Chase along with David, Jaxon, Nolan and the rest of the Carlson family that are always available on short notice. And on the front range, Clint Johnson is our go to guy. He is always the most willing to help us on the busiest days and we especially enjoy his help at Denver.

When it comes to guiding us in the right direction, we owe a lot of credit to the Tiedeman family of North Platte.

Bob, Becky, Jake, and Lindsay are the kind of friends that are always willing to share their hard-earned wisdom without hesitation. They are also responsible for breeding an exceptional set of two-year old’s that we know will be a hit on sale day.

Additionally, we couldn’t be more thankful for our working relationship with the Johnson family of Eaton, CO. Rod and John are two of the most diligent cattlemen I know and have been instrumental in helping us to develop what we feel is on track to be one of the best two-year-old bull programs in the country.
