Modern Twist on Proven Cow Families

BRC 100/7, the dam of Lot 1, is likely the most renowned polled Brahman cow in the world. After she passed away in 2021, her impact will still be very prevalent but access to direct sons or daughters of 100 will be few and far between. 100 was the first and only polled National Champion female herself and cemented her name in history as the mother of Noble and Polled Phenom. These young bulls are sired by Captain - the bull who has taken the breed by storm because of his incredible phenotype, which brings the Jennessa cow family into the mix. Current and Future Breeding Potential

These two bulls are a little different in the way they are put together, but definitely have one thing in common, they are both really good. BRC Tugboat Captain is the more shapely, expressively muscled bull of the pair, while Captain America is the bigger boned bull who puts together a show-stopping profile view. Let us not forget that fundamentally, both are extremely functional being sound made, excellent footed, and good in their sheaths. As a bonus, they both have the pigment to make them versatile for breeding to both red or grey cows with tremendous success.

How Half-Interests Work

This lot is selling half-interest (50% ownership and 50% possession) in the buyers choice. Should the buyer wish to purchase half interest in both bulls, they may take the final bid price x 2. Selection must be made by June 5, 2021. If the bulls are collected as AI sires, BRC and new buyers will split all future income and semen collection expense 50/50. Royally Bred in True BRC Fashion

We could spend a day talking over this heifers pedigree. This is the first Dutton born at BRC. She combines so many of the great cows our herd has been built around with a modern twist. Being sired by Dutton, not only does she bring the iconic combo of the great Noble and matriarch female Boom Shaka Laka 21/8, but also her mother is the 835/7 donor cow who is the dam of our 160/8 herd bull we own with Arms Cattle, our 622/8 donor cow who was a Houston division champion, as well as many others.

Maternal Power on Both Sides

Oftentimes, the story is as important as the animal itself, and 114’s pedigree is stacked with great cows with storied production. Lady Lupita blends in two of the all time best females from BRC: 382/7 and 341/7 - two females who have been side by side their entires lives from the show ring to the pasture now as mature cows. Shortcut a few details, back in 2013, 341/7 was the favorite female on the show string that we had the highest hopes for at the International that year, but as fate would have it we also decided to load up 382/7 and take her to show because she was more moderate and something we thought that years judge may appreciate. 382/7 was selected International Champion that day, 341 was 2nd in class and Reserve Senior Champion behind her, and the rest is history. Both cows have gone on to do great things with 382/7 raising 21/8 who was two time International champion, and here recently 341/7 produced BRC Come on Eileen 75 female who was Reserve Calf Champion at the 2021 International show.

Mollie came up with the concept of a “mystery lot” in our May 2020 sale, and it was a huge hit! That particular mystery lot was 2 units of semen on Dutton. In the fall sale, it was 2 units on BRC’s 160/8 meat wagon herd bull. This year, as of press time, we haven’t decided what it will be. Some ideas have been tossed around include half interest in a proven herd bull, selling a donor cow, some frozen embryos, semen, something with the Brahman beef, and a few other fun things. Sale Terms This sale is governed by Texas law. These terms represent the full agreement between buyer and B.R. Cutrer, Inc. Updates posted at dvauction.com take precedence over catalog. PAYMENT & TRANSFER: Terms of the sale are cash, check, or bank wire due upon receipt, and before animals leave BRC. Payment for the cattle is due June 15, 2021. Unpaid accounts are billed 18% APR beginning fourteen (14) days following sale. Upon receipt of payment, B.R. Cuter, Inc. will transfer registration paper to the buyer. If full payment is not received within 14 (fourteen) days, then upon written or electronic notice to buyer, BRC shall retain ownership of animal with full property rights, including the ability to sell the animal to another buyer. Animals not paid for within 14 days of the sale forfeit any future guarantees.

LIABILITY & INSURANCE: Ownership of the animal transfers at the time of sale and buyer bears the risk of injury, disease or death which may occur. Insurance is available through Jensen Livestock Agency (785-374-4372). HEALTH: Cattle are eligible for a state approved health certificate for interstate shipment. Buyers should make themselves aware of health requirements for their respective states. Animals have been provided the utmost care, nutrition, and vaccinations under the guidance of our veterinarian. Animals are assumed sound and healthy at sale time.

INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: International bidders wishing to be approved for the auction should notify Brandon or Rachel Cutrer of their intent to bid by the morning of June 1, 2021. We can assist you with registering at DV Auction. A 50% deposit of the final sale price must be submitted via wire transfer by 4:00 p.m. CST on June 5, 2021 to confirm the sale. If this deposit is not received, we reserve the right to offer the animal to the next highest bidder. The final balance is due before the animal is exported. There are no breeding guarantees offered on internationally-exported cattle.

GUARANTEE: The sale offering is guaranteed to be reproductively sound. This guarantee does not cover injury or death and is not a lifetime guarantee. In the event of a problem, the buyer is responsible to return the animal to BRC and if it does not respond as a satisfactory breeder, we have the option to select a suitable replacement, if available, or take a sale credit. No cash refunds are given. This guarantee does not include injury, death, management, feed or nutrition issues. Breeding guarantee is voided if any of the following occur: natural disaster, gross negligence or misconduct, cattle not in suitable body condition score to breed, cattle exhibited at livestock shows, virgin heifers flushed or IVF’d prior to having a natural calf, or virgin bulls collected for semen prior to natural breeding.

FEEDING TERMS: Cattle will be provided free care until July 1, 2021, after which feed is billed at $5/head/day in the BRC development facility. Any veterinary expense will be the owners obligation. All accounts will be billed monthly. Feed charges must be paid in full when the cattle are picked up. Cattle left at the ranch must carry some form of livestock insurance.

LIMITATIONS OF GUARANTEE: We make no further guarantees, including but not limited to ability of cattle to compete in livestock shows, ability to be halterbroken, disposition, number of years in production, or number of embryos produced, or number of units of semen produced. BRC retains the right to one embryo flush on all heifers selling in this sale and retains ownership of all DNA cell lines.

If anyone bids within 5 minutes of 7:00 p.m., 5 more minutes will be added to allow the contending bidder fairness to bid again. We became friends with the Ingram team 2016, when they were looking to add Brahman bulls to their commercial operation in Florida. Orrin initially emailed Rachel looking for some heifers. After a few emails, Rachel recognized that Orrin was extremely serious about investing in only the best. Rachel typed, “Let me get you in touch with my husband, he is probably more knowledgeable than me.” And Orrin replied that his family business had plenty of smart, capable women in it and he was perfectly fine continuing to do the deal with me. That sentiment of respect for women in ranching and in business is something that has stuck with us from day one. That’s the kind of great people you’ll find at Ingram Angus.

We met about ten years ago, and both Steve and Brandon and Nancy and Rachel instantly hit it off as fast friends. We own 694 together, the 2013 Reserve National Champion Female. One year we even spontaneously bought the high selling heifer lot at Houston together. Through the decade, we have partnered together on many cattle deals, and each one always seems to be more enjoyable than the next. Last year, the Martin’s gave us an opportunity to buy into their famed bull - Captain - and the joy and excellence that Captain has brought both our herds has just been indescribable.

Ingram Angus operates a little over 3,000 acres in Tennessee, and serves as a leading Angus seedstock operation providing Angus bulls and females to beef producers throughout the southeast and the nation.

Over the last six years, the Ingram team has become some of our most trusted friends in the cattle business. We are proud to use their Angus bulls in our commercial herd - they do great in Texas. We even flushed 100/7 to one of their Angus bulls! We have traveled together, and love visiting their farm in Tennessee. We work together in managing their Brahman herd to maximize the quality they have invested in over the last six years. From sharing our love of cattle and ranching to enjoying family trips, family traditions, eating at good restaurants, riding around the pastures together for hours, laughing, and of course a good ol’ trip to South Texas Tack, the Martin family of Wichita Ranch are some of our most treasured friends.

Probably the coolest thing about our friendship is the friendship that our children have developed. When Elle, Mollie and Annie get together - these girls are setting the world on fire. These young ladies are as knowledgeable about Brahman cattle as any adults in the world. It’s fun to just sit back and listen to them talking about cattle, horses, and their dreams for the future. I think one of the keys to our strong friendship is that both of us are working hard to share a lifetime love of ranching with those we hold dear - our families. These dreams are more than just owning cattle. Do you ever have those moments where someone says exactly what you need to hear at the exact moment you need it? Last May, Kevin Williams, owner of Williams Ranch @ Turkey Creek told us a scripture that has been one of our guiding statements in the BRC operations: “And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. - Galatians 6:9-10. When you’re partners with people like Kevin and Ursula Williams, it’s just a joy. And while Kevin isn’t necessarily a cattleman by training, he has taken the Williams Ranch program and established it as a fault-free, functional program. He’s built a program that’ll rival any herd in the USA for consistency, uniformity, and functionality. For the last few years, we have collaborated together in sharing herd bulls like 194, and Boomtown. Kevin’s ranch is just up the road near Sugarland, and he is a rancher who’s doing everything right. He has built a female program of cows with exceptional fertility, great udders, gentle dispositions, easy fleshing ability, and cows that just flat do their job. But, each year, Kevin continues to raise the bar in his program by getting better. This year, we are partners together in two hot new AI sires - 542 and Independence 22.

Garrett Cattle Co., Danbury, Texas

On a cold rainy day in winter 2019, Garrett Harvey came and visited us. The weather was the only way we could get Garrett out of the fields. Sitting at our kitchen table, we mapped out a plan for working together in what we described as a “super collaborator.” But, this friendship goes way way further back than just 2019. Garrett’s great grandpa and Rachel’s grandpa have been lifelong friends. JT Garrett got into the cattle business in the mid 1940s. In the early 1940s, he formed a cattle partnership called “The Lazy 3” between JT Garrett (Garrett’s Paw Paw), Leon Locke, and Edgar Hudgins. Well, “The Lazy 3” hired Sloan Williams (Rachel’s Dadaw) as part of their working crew. Before he passed away, we spent most every Sunday at Dadaw’s house listening to old stories - and some of his favorites were memories from working the cow crew with three of his mentors. Dadaw also purchased many females through the years from Jacko and Nancy Garrett for his private herd. So a few years ago, the ‘next generation’ decided to team up. And, it’s been a blast. That’s actually why we chose the name “Little Miss Sunshine” for our first collaboration together. As Garrett described our partnership, ‘It’s happy, bright, peaceful, relaxing, and just plain easy.”

It’s friends like Kevin and Ursula that make life worthwhile. In another famous Kevin quote, “Friendship is like a really good pair of boots. They can go to the dance, the meetings, the stock show, through rain, the mud, even the fire. When they get worn, they can be polished and re-soled and feel brand new.”

In the last year, the highlight of our partnership has been co-owning Dutton together. The Dutton calves mated to Garrett’s cows were a home run. Garrett also bred 259 as a natural service sire in the summer of 2020, and 259 died peacefully at their ranch. Little Miss Sunshine is a result of that collaboration. Brandon, Garrett and Keaton have burned up the road from Boling to Danbury because it’s always so fun to see the new calves and think about the future.
