Welcome the B&L Red Angus Spring Bull Sale. We at B&L Red Angus want to start with thanking our customers who make us a success. We also want to thank the team of Red Angus breeders who help provide the genetic offerings in both of these sales. So much planning and effort goes into making these sales a possibility, but we continue to be blessed by our customer’s, team and family.

We started our registered seedstock program after seeing our commercial Red Angus females outperform our other commercial cattle. We spent many years developing commercial replacement heifers, and Red Angus continued to blow us away. This sparked an excitement to see the possibilities of growth in the breed, and coupled with the years of experience as a commercial producer, it laid the foundation of what has become B&L Red Angus. We believe our years of experience as a commercial producer and developer gives us the edge in understanding what our commercial producers need. The breed continues to gain the successful ranchers’ trust as a complete package of fertility, fleshing ability, good disposition, longevity and excellent overall production all inside a moderate frame. We continue to hear from our customers that our program’s genetics are working for them.

The B&L Red Angus program is progressive and performance driven, keeping the commercial cattleman in mind each step of the way. We place strong emphasis on maternal traits, carcass quality, soundness, a moderate frame and good disposition. We have teamed up with like-minded breeders in genetically similar programs to provide an even greater selection of both registered bulls and females. We continue to push forward utilizing artificial insemination and embryo transfer to capitalize on the superior genetics inside our herd and within the breed. We do so to be able to pass these genetics on to you, our customer. In addition, we are a seedstock partner in the $Profit system that provides our commercial cattlemen with an index system to help recognize the expected profitability of a bull’s progeny over his lifetime when accounting for 30% of heifers retained.

The team of bull producers is proud to offer a select set of bulls available this spring. All of the bulls are developed together here at B&L Red Angus and have completed feed efficiency testing on Grow-Safe, which provides individualized data on feed-to-gain on each bull. The genetic quality of bulls you find here are hard to beat, whether you sell your calf crop at weaning or retain ownership to the feedyard. The bulls are fed a high-roughage ration to ensure they are ready to turn out and go to work for you as soon as you leave. Disposition continues to be of utmost importance. The bulls are developed just steps away from our backdoor and where our children play. Overall, this isn’t just a development center, it’s also our home and we welcome you to join us for another great sale day.

Health papers will be available for all bulls leaving Oklahoma. If you live in a state that requires additional testing, this will be done after the sale and animals delivered after that time.

FERTILITY TESTING

All bulls were tested and have passed a BSE by Dr Jeff Pollock of Taloga Vet 580-922-5629

BREEDING GUARANTEE All bulls are guaranteed through the first breeding season. If a fertility or breeding issue occurs, we require that you notify us. In that event a replacement bull of similar value will be provided, if available, or a credit given for a future purchase. Credit will be for purchase price minus salvage value. We also reserve the right to have the animal seen by a vet of our choice. This Does Not Include Coverage For Death. Mortality Insurance will be available on sale day when you check out.

Sale Information SEMEN INTEREST

Seller will be retaining 50% semen interest in all bulls selling. Buyer will have full possession.

SALES TERMS AND CONDITIONS

All sales are cash or check to clerk at conclusion of sale, unless otherwise arranged. Cattle will be paid for in full before being loaded or delivered. Cattle will sell under the terms and conditions as recommend by the Red Angus Association of America. The auctioneer will settle any disputes on bids and his decision is final.

SIGHT-UNSEEN GUARANTEE

If you are unable to attend or to view bulls online, please contact Benji White, Lori White, Luke Lundgren or Clint Berry. We will be happy to assist you with your needs. In the event you are not satisfied with the bull upon delivery, simply request the bull to be returned and you will receive a full refund of purchase price.

DELIVERY

$50 discount given off purchase price, of every bull, if you take bulls home day of the sale. Free delivery within a 300 mile radius of B&L Red Angus on all bulls. Any bull purchases over $20,000 will be delivered for free. All other deliveries will be done at a fair cost to the buyer.

SALE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Except for those stated in the below terms and conditions, there are no warranties, either expressed or implied, as to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the cattle being sold at this auction. The warranties and guarantees are set forth in these Terms and Conditions are in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied, and the remedies provided therein shall be the sole and exclusive remedy of the purchaser or any party claiming through purchaser, for any breach of warranty or guarantee therein provided, and all other obligations or liabilities.

TERMS

Terms of the sale are cash or check to the clerk at the conclusion of the auction. Animals are not to leave until paid for in full.

BIDDING

Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK

Each animal will be at the Purchaser’s risk as soon as sold. Animals will be fed and cared for free of charge to purchaser, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of (72) hours after the sale for animals being picked up by the Purchaser. After that, there will be a per day feed cost added to the purchase price, payable before possession occurs.

LIABILITY

All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, the sale manager, and its employees, cooperators, consignors and all other persons connected with the management of the sale, assume no responsibility, liability, legal or otherwise.

$PROFITTM Why $Profit: Today, ranchers have to make proper genetic decisions to improve profitability and the return on their investment. However, most seedstock providers confuse potential customers with too many EPDs. Most Angus have over 25 EPDs plus DNA rankings are also often provided. While this data is useful, it is also very hard to analyze. This makes buying the best bull very difficult. Every bull is good on some traits and weak on others. The challenge is figuring out how each of those traits is going to impact your bottom line. Buyers try to determine which bull will make the most money from birth to slaughter, but most of the time, they end up guessing.

When Boeing Airlines starts to build a plane, do you think they guess how it is going to fly? How much fuel it is going to use? How many pounds of cargo it can carry? No, they don’t guess – instead they use their knowledge to build a computer program the simulates the outcomes based on the design of the plane that they have in mind. This same simulation technology can be used in beef cattle to improve selection decisions.

How $Profit works: $Profit is based on results from an advanced simulation model, developed by Dr. Steve Miller (now the Director of Genetic Research at the American Angus Association) in conjunction with other geneticists at Guelph University. The simulation develops partial budgets that look at how a genetic factor influences cost and/or revenue. The model factors in all of the effects on both income and expense to come up with a net profit figure for each bull. $Profit assumes that the average commercial bull will have 100 progeny over its lifetime. The model assumes that you keep 30% of your heifers as replacements and that you retain ownership on the remainder of the calves through harvest. Further, it assumes that you will sell on a grid with premiums for quality grade and yield grade.

Most importantly, $Profit allows you to easily compare any two bulls and calculate the difference in profit that they are expected to generate in your herd. Let’s compare a $14,000 $Profit bull to $10,000 $Profit bull. The predicted difference between the bulls is $4,000 or about $40 per calf. For comparison, the average 2015 Angus bull has a $Profit of approximately $9000.

What traits are included in $Profit: $Profit includes nearly every trait that impacts profitability. The effect of most traits on profit is fairly simple to understand. Here is the list of what is included and its effect: Revenue Traits Calving ease = more calves means more revenue.

Weaning & yearling EPD = more weight equals more revue.

Fertility (days to conception) = more weight and more calves Carcass weight = worth more up to 477 kg.

Marbling = valued based on grid premiums Ribeye area = value as impacts yield grade % Retail Product = more yield is more saleable meat Cost Traits Cow mature size = bigger eats & costs more Cow intake = more intake eats & costs more Feedlot feed efficiency = more feed per kg of gain means more cost Some traits are not so easily characterized for $Profit. Milk, for example, is a good thing until you get too much. When over +25, milk EPD has a more negative effect on fertility than it has a positive effect on weaning weight. There are a few traits not yet included in $Profit: longevity, structure, and disposition. These traits are important but difficult to express in dollars.

Feed Efficiency EPDs Explained: Feed:Gain: Difference in the amount of feed a bull’s progeny will consume to produce one pound of gain.

Example: A -0.50 F:G EPD means this animal’s progeny will consume 1/2 pound less feed per pound of gain than would progeny of a zero F:G EPD sire.

Feed Intake: Difference in feed consumption of each of a bull’s progeny in a 112 day feeding period.

Example: A steer whose sire has a -100 In¬take EPD will eat one hundred pounds less feed in 112 days than one whose sire had a zero Intake EPD. 22

GM....... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the post-weaning phase of production.

GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits.

Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid.
