Dear customers,

We would like to extend a warm welcome to what is our 20th On Property Bull Sale, the Top of The Grid Bull Sale. The name of the sale says it all, as the premiums in this industry are for those at the Top of the Grid.

That is where we aim our cattle at. In the last twelve months we have been at the top of the grid with JBS, Woolworths and Teys.

JBS Farm Assurance is still paying us a premium, along with the 1000 Guineas brand. In July we have sold grass fed cattle at 600c/kg dressed and feeder steers at $4.00/kg live. The 1000 Guineas is still paying a premium over Angus steers.

Likewise we have received top of the grid prices for cattle we have killed with Woolworths and the top performing steer at Teys Jindalee Trial.

There are still premiums available if we, as producers, can produce cattle that hit the targets.

This winter could not be of more contrast to the last one. Last year we could not move with the amount of water and rain laying around. This year has had completely different challenges, having received one inch since mid March, it is certainly very different.

Despite this dry we are very happy with the way the bulls have progressed. The emphasis on doing ability is paramount to maintaining profitability in such varying seasons.

Please note, due to having surgery, the spring bulls were not weighed at birth but were all shape scored.

Local buyers and those from interstate, feedlots and processors competed on the 1538-head yarding.

A pen of Penderscourt Poll Hereford-Shorthorn cross calves had pride of place in pen one of the sale. The 16 steers, 13-14 months of age and 463 kg, Yavenvale and Rostulla Poll Hereford and Royalla Poll Shorthorn bloodlines. This pen sold for $1570/head to Paul Pendergast.

Top of the Grid

Meating the Market

Today’s economic environment teaches us all the importance of meeting the market and producing exactly what our costumers want.

At the end of July we were still able to send a load of Grass Fed cattle to JBS under the Farm Assurance Program, at $6.00/kg dressed, Top of the Grid. A big premium when the same week, similar cattle at Dubbo made 270-304 c/kg live and averaged 288c.

Up to $200 per head premium for being Top of the Grid. It is not always possible to sell cattle over the hooks certified Grass Fed, but the premium is worth it when we can.

Our steers also hit the Top of the Grid with similar premiums over sale yards with Woolworths in mid May. We also recently sold heavy feeder steers for 365c for 1000 Guineas. The correct type of Shorthorns are the most versatile and profitable cattle.

he story begins in the North East of England in the 18th century, where Teeswater & Durham cattle breeds were

being refined using selective breeding techniques by Charles and Robert Colling. This program would go on to give rise to one of the most highly sought after beef cattle breeds anywhere in the world… t h e S hor t hor n .

The culmination of this breeding program was the birth of the bull Comet in 1804, who, in 1810 went on to fetch 1,000 Guineas at the Brafferton sale, breaking all records as the first bull to draw such a price tag.

Isobel H135 -Miss World The original Isobel cow was purchased at the Gunnawarra commercial herd dispersal in 1970 by Allan, Lester & Neilson Job and inspected under the SFA system in 1971 as one of our founding females.

They have been exported to 5 countries, so it is fitting that the first Shorthorn World Champion Female was an Isobel, 7 generations from the original, but still displaying her type.

Lot 54B is 11 generations from the original Isobel cow, but she remains true to type.

The last live export out of Australia was an Isobel. Marellan Irish Isobel 38th.

A Buyers Number System will operate at the sale. All prospective purchasers need to register.

Inspection: Lots will be available for inspection on Tuesday 15th August from 10am, on Thursday August 31st from 3pm, sale day from 9am, or any other time by appointment.

Accommodation: ROYALLA is 69km from Parkes, 52km from Wellington and 74km from Dubbo. All have plenty of motels. Royal Hotel Yeoval can be booked by calling 02 6846 4003.

Breeding Guarantee: All bulls have been examined for reproductive and structural soundness by Dr Ced Wise. All have also been semen tested, giving buyers added security.

Health: All Lots are vaccinated with 7in1, Pestiguard and Vibriovax. Some bulls are blooded with 3germ. Please contact vendors for more details.

Delivery: Every care will be taken, but no responsibility taken, from the fall of the hammer.
