Dear Friends, We are, once again, looking forward to hosting you at our annual Sale by the Sea in Pismo Beach. In some ways it’s felt like a long year…we waited many days between rainstorms that never materialized. In other ways, the days have flown by and it hardly seems that another year has gone by. The Lord has continued to watch over us during this fifth year of drought, the ranch shows it but, thank God, our cows are healthy and prolific!

Our family is busier than ever; Nathan entered high school this fall and is playing football for the first time. He doesn’t enjoy it as much as baseball, but he can throw the football long and hard. Joseph has spent the summer working on the ranch alongside John as well as playing baseball…he made the All Stars and was happier than ever, at least until school started!

Ben played baseball, as well, and switch-hit for the first time with a base hit…needless to say he thinks he’s signing for the Dodgers next week!

John and Heather are juggling all of it…home life and the rigorous routines of AI, the science of ET work and raising some pretty great Angus seed stock. Allan is attending every sale he can and when Cee isn’t home watching the grandkids she’s there, enjoying them with him. They went to several sales in Tennessee this past spring and spent time in between with more grandchildren!

For those of you who are or are not aware, three years after testing DDF, TEX Demand was discovered to be DDC. The only positive in this entire situation is that it was not an error on our part. We are sorry for the difficulties caused our purchasers.

Teixeira Cattle Company has been hurt by this situation, along with any breeder who used the bull. The lab has agreed to test all Demand offspring at no cost. It is estimated that 1-5% of the bulls being sold across the country are Persistent Infected (PI) for BVD carriers; at Teixeira Cattle Co. this percentage is ZERO. PI BVD cattle will cause first trimester abortion and create respiratory challenges in stressed calves. PI infected cattle are often difficult to pinpoint and have signifcant dollar impact. Consistent with our commitment to biosecurity and herd health, all bulls are sold Trich free. All bulls have been anaplas vaccinated.

Arriving from 101 northbound: Take the Price Street Exit in Pismo Beach. Make a right turn at the first stoplight, which is Hinds Street until you cross the freeway, at which time it becomes Price Canyon Road. Continue on Price Canyon Road for 1.8 miles and turn left onto Thousand Hills Road. Use caution, as the gate is somewhat hidden around a bend in the road and the gate comes up on you suddenly. There is not a turning lane from Price Canyon into the ranch.
