Dear Friends: It is our pleasure to welcome you to our 26th Annual Bull sale at our ranch north of Lawrence, Kansas.

We are proud to offer to you the most uniform set of bulls that we have ever offered. This sale also features a select group of females, both purebred and commercial. There are 59 bulls 15-23 months old in the offering of which 52 are below a birth weight EPD of 2 pounds for generations. We have bred our cattle and CULLED, based on the economically important traits that have sustained and built our operation over the last 26 years. We have selected the most proven cow lines and injected them into our rigid culling process through sons of a clean genetic value to give us the consistency you see in our bulls and their offspring.

We are not farmers, so we have no silage; we are ranchers! Our cow herd is grazed year round and supplemented in the winter with grass hay and a protein source. 90% of our cow herd calves in the fall, they nurse their calves through the winter and the calves stay on the cows through the summer, grazing alongside their mothers. Again evaluation and culling at every step, any cow that cannot perform year after year is culled. Fertility, longevity, efficiency, growth, intelligence, udder quality, and calving ease are a few of the traits we select for. Basically, if a cow screws up for any reason she is gone! Cull cows are an important part of annual cash flow on a working ranch! This extensive culling process is one reason you see the consistency in EPDs in our bulls. On sale day, consistency and correct made cattle bring more money back to the ranch than calves sired by bulls with big promises (EPDs).

Because of our rigid culling process over the years and staying with proven clean genetic valued cattle, you will have to drive a long way to find a cleaner heard. Our program is based on and will always be about producing cattle for the long term. Sires are selected based on their dam and whether they can contribute to our cow base, not make the largest of anything!

This year we developed the bulls at home on a ground hay and concentrate diet. It was designed for the bulls to gain three pounds per head per day and on the December 7 weight they averaged 3.84 pounds.
