RECREATION
McCall on Payette Lake is one of Idaho’s favorite mountain resort towns and is only about 50 miles away. Known as the “Gateway to the backcountry,” McCall is the wild child of Idaho. It’s said to have been dubbed the Bend of Idaho, a mountain resort town famous for its coveted morel mushrooms, huckleberries, breweries, outdoor recreation and events, local eateries, and ski resorts. Nearby Brundage Mountain and Tamarack Ski Resort, matched with thousands of acres of backcountry, contribute to McCall’s status and popularity as an exceptional summer/winter recreation destination.
Recreation abounds in the Upper Country with the ruggedly beautiful Hells Canyon of the Snake River just 32 miles to the west on State Highway 71 out of Cambridge. Hells Canyon Dam is North America’s deepest river gorge and has more pioneer and Native American historic sites than any other river in the region. Hells Canyon is the mecca for recreational fishing, boating, white water rafting, hiking, and hunting opportunities.
