AREA HISTORY
The quaint town of Harrison, Idaho, was incorporated in the late 1800s and thrived throughout the early 1900s due to its location on Lake Coeur d’Alene and proximity to a branch of the Oregon Railroad. In 1911, Harrison was the largest town in Kootenai County, with a population of 1,250±. Supported by sawmills, box factories, and a fleet of steamboats transporting timber and passengers. About half of the town’s residential and business district was destroyed by a fire in 1917. Despite the destruction of the town, the community spirit still thrived. Today, Harrison is a peaceful community with a population of around 217.
