Ramya Kommula | Architect
Growing up in Hyderabad, India, I found my love for architecture and age while exploring the culturally rich city. Honing my skills as an artist veloped my taste in design leaning mostly towards vernacular buildings am an architecture graduate with experience in both the architecture sign fields. I moved to Florida in persuit of establishing myself as an interior to widen my design horizons. I am a keen learner and love exploring new elling. Through my designs, I try my best to provide a safe sanctuary

Isla Morada comfortable luxury exotic aesthetics
the Smiths
The interiors of the house are designed in a way to reflect Luca and Stephanie’s love for travelling across the world. The house is a perfect blend of exotic aesthetics and comfortable luxury. The house is nestled in the tropical and beautiful location of Isla Morada, Florida. The holiday home is also specifically designed keeping in mind the Smiths’ daughter, Cindy’s respiratory allergies. The materials and furniture chosen help in purifying the air in the house and avoiding dust and pollen as much as possible. The tropical theme also incorporates allergen friendly plants into the house.

Tropical Modernism
The theme for the house reflects on the clients personality and aims to keep the house as beautiful and comfortable as possible. Tropical modernism is the style of design that emulates the minimalist aesthetic of Modern design while responding to the climatic and environmental conditions of the tropics. The main aspects of this approach include:

Staying in theme with the tropical modern style, most materials in the project are selected to show natural finishes and invoke a sense of biophilia. Examples include stones such as slate and travertine, terracotta, wood, lime plaster, and in some instances also concrete.

cindys bedroom
To improve indoor air quality, it’s important that the air in a room can regularly circulate and remain fresh. Plants such as snake plant, fiddle leaf fig, bamboo palm act as natural air filters
Avoid indoor air pollution Using sustainable and FSC certified furniture Zero VOC paint Brands such as West Elm, Pottery Barn, Avocado, Burrow offer FSC certified furniture which are especially used in Cindy’s bedroom and the rest of the house.
Paints used in the house are void Volatile Organic Compounds seen in brands such as Sherwin Williams Harmony and Earth Pigments. Lime Plaster is also a natural pigmented paint finish used in the condo for the same purpose.

sustainability
Organic and Renewable materials
It’s very important to pick materials and products with the lowest environmental impact. These materials must be quickly renewable (such as fast-growing bamboo), and are extracted in an environmentally responsible way. Eg. Wood, stone etc
Design for longevity and flexibility
To prevent materials and products getting discarded too often, the lifespan of the materials that experience a lot of wear and tear must be kept in mind. Eg. stone flooring instead of carpeted flooring
