SS 7750-1

A newly developed Swedish standard that addresses pedestrian barriers for temporary use. During roadwork, pedestrian walkways and bike lanes are often blocked, posing risks to vulnerable road users. To improve safety and provide clear guidelines for work site equipment design, this new standard has been introduced.

Protection Class 1

The protective device is designed to resist wind loads and low dynamic loads and is intended:

• To prevent a pedestrian from walking or stumbling into the work area.

• To visually and physically separate pedestrians from the work area.

• The minimum height of the upper railing should be 1.1 m / 3.6 ft.

Protection Class 2

The protective device is designed to resist wind loads and high dynamic loads and is intended:

• To prevent an unprotected road users who hits the protective device at up to a 45° angle from falling over or through the protective device.

• To visually and physically separate unprotected pedestrians from the work area.

• The minimum height of the upper railing should be 1.4 m / 4.6 ft.

Protection Class 3

The protective device is designed to resist wind loads and very high dynamic loads and is intended:

• To prevent an unprotected road user who hits the protective device at up to a 90° angle from falling over or through the protective device.

• To visually and physically separate unprotected pedestrians from the work area.

• The minimum height of the upper railing should be 1.4 m / 4.6 ft.

Barrier Installation

With Torun, connecting barriers is quick and effortless – no need to be right beside them. Just one smooth motion and they're securely linked, no screws or additional joints required. Plus, with the unique design, you can easily disengage a barrier mid set-up without any hassle or disruption.

• No need to stand close to the barriers when installing.

• Disengage any barrier in the middle of a setup without hassle or disruptions.

• No need for screws or tools.

› Installation checklist

% Conduct a risk assesment before assembly.

% Inspect the barriers prior to every use to be sure that they are not damaged and that the rubber feet are in good condition.

% Make sure that all barriers are connected.

% Make sure that the surface behind the barrier is free from foreign objects, standing water, ice and snow.

% Stand clear of barriers when installing!

Crushing Hazard

› Installation

Remove any barrier in the middle of a setup

The coupling of Torun is easy and quick to use; with no need for screws or tools the Torun barrier can easily be disengaged and engaged in the middle of a setup. This is extra effective in emergency situations where barriers need to be removed to create a clear path for emergency vehicles.

Stand clear of barriers when engaging/disengaging! !

Height difference

The Torun Barrier is flexible and able to climb edges like sidewalks and other uneven surfaces without loosing the engagement of the coupling. The coupling can take approximately 250 mm / 9.8 in height difference.

Ground angle

The Torun coupling can take up to 1.5° change of angle, meaning it can scale light slopes without the need to disengage the coupling. If more adjustability is needed, the Torun Corner Angle is available, and takes up to 7.5° vertical angle change.

› Installation

The Torun barrier sections are dimensioned in increments of the length for a seamless interchangeability of different sections in installation, and efficient transportation and storage.

› Turn radius

The Torun barrier is ideal for urban tasks due to its low turn radius, enabling swift manoeuvrability in tight spaces. Its agility makes it perfect for navigating city streets efficiently, facilitating various urban operations. The Torun Barrier coupling allows for a 6.5° angle in each coupling. If more adjust ability is needed, the Torun Corner Angle is available, and takes up to 90° turns.

Torun 1.425: Turn radius 12.5 m / 41 ft
Torun 2.85: Turn radius 25 m / 82 ft

Lifting

To think about before lifting

• Use only designated lifting tools.

• Exerciser caution regarding the risk of crushing.

• Ensure the barrier is not stuck, frozen to the ground or blocked in any way to avoid overloading the lifting equipment.

• If using lifting forks, ensure that the forks and railing are free from snow and ice.

• Never lift multiple connected barriers.

• Ensure that the necessary documentation for the chosen lifting equipment is available and that instructions are followed.

Stand clear from moving barriers!

Never lift a barrier if a person is in its path of motion. Take caution to never lift a barrier above yourself or anyone else.

Never lift more than one barrier!

Doing so can pose significant risks, including strains on couplings and lifting tools.

Never drag barriers!

Dragging barriers will damage the barriers rubber feet and put excessive strain on the lifting tools.

› Recomended lifting tools

Lifting Yoke

The lifting hook is a specifically designed tool to move the Torun barriers in a quick and efficient way.

Lifting Forks

Lifting forks can be used to efficiently move barriers on-site or at the depot.

Lifting Chain/Sling

Lifting Chains/Slings are used for effectively adjusting barrier set-ups or occasionally for more simple barrier set-ups.

› Lifting Tools

Storage & maintenance

The Torun barrier is designed to withstand tough conditions in both handling and operation, it is however wise and recommended to consider the following instructions to ensure a long, safe and unproblematic lifetime of the barrier. To further enhance the lifetime of the barrier, you can replace everything on the Torun barrier with spare parts and refurbish it to a fresh look and feel, only using common hand tools.

› Storage

When the barriers are in storage following safety precaution must be taken:

• To avoid compression of the rubber feet under prolonged heavy load, each stack must be separated by 70 mm / 2.8 inch. Place the separating blocks on the steel surface and not on the rubber feet.

• A maximum of 2 barriers may be stacked in height.

• Ensure that the ground has sufficient bearing capacity and that the setup surface is as horizontal and smooth as possible.

› Inspection checklist

Always inspect the barrier according to the checklist below before use. If any damage is detected, the product must be taken out of service for repair or recycling. Before each use, a simple check is recommended:

% Visual inspection of visible damage to the barrier components including the coupling.

% Signs of impact from dropped barrier or similar.

% Inspection of wear on the rubber feet. Ensure that the rubber have at least 3 mm/0.12 inch to the metal frame.

% Thighten any loose screws and make sure railing is correctly installed.

Annually check the Torun barrier for the following:

% Cracks/rust in or around welds.

% Cracks or deformations around railing and screw sockets.

% Damage in between and around each horizontal beam.

% Wear on rubber feet. New feet have a thickness of 9 mm/0.35 in to the metal frame. Replace the foot when 3 mm/0.12 in remain.

Serial number can be found next to the railing mounting point.

Replaceable Componets

Torun is flexible where it matters. If the barrier gets damaged, you can replace all parts, such as the barrier railing or the rubber feet. You can also exchange reflectors and mesh net. Choose the setup that suit your region or custom needs.

› Railing Installation / Replacement

If you have to replace a railing on the Torun barrier, it is a quick and easy job to do. It is recommended to use lifting equipment to lift the railing out and the replacement railing in place, the weight is 40 kg/90 lb for 8345994 and 72 kg/160 lb for 8344271. Torque the bolts so railing tube bulges out to become snug in the socket, approximately 100Nm.

› Rubber Foot Socket Installation / Replacement

To ensure a safe procedure when replacing the steel foot on Torun barriers, place the barrier onto something stable, for example two Torun Barrier Bases spaced apart. Never do this repair when the barrier is only supported by lifting equipment.
