XLT Tapper Powers Through NYC NYC, New York- In late November, Dragan, Project Manager for Empire Architectural Metal & Glass Corp. had a challenge on one of his jobsites. His team needed to tap 2,000 holes in steel plate so that they could install a glass enclosure on the roof of a new-construction apartment building. This 62 story skyscraper was just one of the buildings part of the massive Manhattan West development project. From Dragan’s experience, he knew that tapping was a very precise operation and was overwhelmed with the amount of time, manpower, and level of difficulty it would take to complete the job by hand tapping. Anxious to get the job done faster, they even tried tapping using a power drill. However, each hole took over five minutes and they broke many taps. Looking for an easier way to complete his project, he contacted Gil Dagoberto, Senior Sales Manager at Tanner Fasteners & Industrial Supplies to see if he had a solution to his problem.
Gil immediately called Lowell Frey, President of Champion Cutting Tool. They visited the job the next day to demonstrate the new XLT Brute Tapper prototype in development. The XLT Tapper System was put to the test using XL22-1/2-13 Spiral Point Taps and BruteLube Fluid. After tapping a few holes in seconds, Dragan knew that he had to have the XLT Tapper. He valued the productivity, accuracy and ease of use that the XLT Tapper provided. Dragan ordered all three prototype Tappers for his team in the field. Just one week later, Gil received a call from Dragan thanking him for introducing him to the XLT Tapper. It saved him a lot of frustration and delays on the job. His colleague Matt, an experienced glazier, even called the tool “dummy proof.” He said that in the first round of the project, he tapped 640 holes using just two XL22 taps. Now that’s something we love to hear! Champion is looking forward to seeing the Brute XLT Tapper in action soon at their next job - the neighboring Hudson Yards development ($25 billion project).
