EXPLORE REGIONAL THE WINES

Wine Fest Express to Traben-Trarbach

13 JULY

Wine and heritage are always a big part of any festival here in Germany and luckily for us, some of the most memorable ones take place right here along the Moselle River. The banks of the Moselle in Traben-Trarbach are once again transformed into an atmospheric festival area with wine, music

and culinary specialties. People gather in the cozy wine village, in front of the stage on the square and on the banks of the Moselle. The Moselle region is famous for its award-winning Riesling wine. Grown on steep stony slate slopes, it produces the most lustrous wines.

Wine Fest Express Ruedesheim/Rhine

17 AUGUST

ur adventure begins with a drive into the beautiful Rhine Valley, to the famous wine town of Rüdesheim. Here we board our river cruise boat for a short ride to the opposite side of the river and continue on to Castle

of Rheinstein. After ample time to explore, we head back down to our riverboat and enjoy the faces of other grand fortresses tucked along the edge of the Rhine on our way back to town. Upon arrival in Rüdesheim we join the festivities with streets and squares already dotted with wine stalls for tasting and plenty of culinary delights.

Mosel Wine Fest

6 SEPTEMBER

ravel with us to Bernkastel Kues for one of Germany’s most beautiful and largest wine festivals on the Mosel River! Situated on the banks of the Weinfest der offers vibrant

hospitality and lively traditions combined with award-winning, world-famous wines. Spend the day tasting wines by the glass, especially the renowned Rieslings, grown in unique, mineral-rich soil on the steep hillsides.

Swiss Chocolate Train

Cheese, Chocolate & More

Come with us for a delectable ride on the Swiss Chocolate Train! Tickle your taste buds with a sweet start to our Swiss railroad adventure - tasty cocoa and chocolate infused snack (included). Our ride begins as we travel in classic comfort with a stunning panoramic view of the Swiss Riviera and the vineyards surrounding Montreux. Next, we ascend into the charming countryside surrounding Gruyères, where we continue by bus. In Gruyeres we discover the mysteries of how the town’s worldrenowned cheese is made at the

Maison du Gruyère, with a cheese factory tour and tasting. Afterwards you are free to explore this historic town at your own pace: visit the magnificent 13th-century Castle of Gruyères, enjoy a “cheesy” meal at a local restaurant (not included) or simply take in the natural scenery. Movie buffs shouldn’t miss a quick espresso in our personal favorite, HR Giger’s Café & Museum, which celebrates the artist’s peculiar aesthetic, famously seen in his design of the sets and monsters in the “Aliens” movie franchise.

DEPARTURE DATES

Next, we travel on to the town of Broc, home to the Nestlé chocolate factory, “Maison Cailler.” During our tour you’ll learn the sweet story of chocolate and stroll the factory while watching real candy being made - all guaranteed to send your sweet tooth into overdrive! Your cravings will be satisfied with an “all you can taste” chocolate tasting experience at the end of the tour. With the day at its end, we will climb aboard our coach, ready for sweet dreams as we return to Ramstein.

fAMILY cHILD cARE Provider Of The Month

Ms. Linsay Louigene

“My name is Linsay Louigene. I am a licensed Family Child Care (FCC) provider at Ramstein Air Base. I am also the proud wife of an incredible Active Duty Army Officer. Together, we are stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, where we are raising and homeschooling our four amazing children: Woldeeves (11), Mehetabel (10), Nayelee (7), and Neriallyn (6).

We absolutely love living overseas and embrace every opportunity to travel and explore new places, other countries, and cultures. Immersing ourselves in new cultures has added a beautiful richness to our homeschool journey and brought unforgettable moments to our family life.

Before becoming a full-time mom, I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and spent several years working closely with children and families. I helped them navigate seasons of growth and transition, such as adjusting to new siblings, coping with relocations, or working through emotional and behavioral challenges. When I became a mother, I stepped away from that career to focus on raising my own children. That time at home deepened my passion for early childhood development and home-based learning.

A little over two years ago, I felt a strong calling to open my FCC home, and I haven’t looked back since. It has been one of the most fulfilling decisions of my life. Being an FCC provider has allowed me to blend my background in family support with my love for creating safe, nurturing, and engaging spaces for young children.

Lastly, I believe that providing a warm, caring home environment is the foundation for positive early childhood experiences. It has been an honor to serve my fellow military families by providing a trusted space where their children can grow, explore, and thrive. Every day, I wake up striving to make my FCC home a place where little ones feel seen, valued, and inspired to learn and grow.

If you are someone interested in becoming a provider, go into it with your whole heart. With your genuine love for children and desire to create a space where they feel safe, valued, and supported, then becoming an FCC provider will be an incredibly beautiful and rewarding journey. With patience, dedication, and a little bit of creativity, the relationships you build with them will be deep and everlasting. For you are not just caring for children; you are helping to shape the foundation of their lives, and the future of our world. Thus, I believe that kind of impact makes it all worth it.”

If you are interested in becoming an FCC provider, please email 86fss.fcc@us.af.mil or call 06371-405-7420 for more information.

Bold Flavor, Low and Slow

Drunken Ribs

These marinated ribs are infused overnight with a savory blend of spices, vinegar, and beer for deep flavor. Grilled low and slow, then basted with a rich, smoky-sweet sauce made from ketchup, maple syrup, and mustard, they deliver juicy, fall-off-the-bone perfection every time. Ideal for backyard cookouts or weekend feasts!

INGREDIENTS

2 ½ tablespoons garlic powder

1 ½ tablespoons white pepper

1 ½ tablespoons seasoned salt

1 tablespoon onion salt

1 teaspoon dried oregano

How to make it

Step 1:

4 pounds pork spareribs

½ cup distilled white vinegar

12 (12 fluid ounce) cans or bottles premium lager

1 (20 ounce) bottle ketchup

1 (10 fluid ounce) bottle Worcestershire sauce

In a medium bowl, mix garlic powder, white pepper, seasoned salt, onion salt, and oregano.

Step 2:

Place ribs in a large roasting pan, and rub evenly with the garlic powder mixture to coat. Pour distilled white vinegar and 1/2 the beer, or enough to cover ribs, into the pan. Cover pan, and marinate ribs in the refrigerator 8 hours, or overnight.

Step 3:

Prepare an outdoor grill for indirect, medium heat, and lightly oil grate.

Step 4:

1 ½ cups maple syrup

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup liquid smoke flavoring

½ cup margarine

½ cup apple cider vinegar

½ cup honey mustard

In a large saucepan, whisk together remaining beer, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, brown sugar, liquid smoke, margarine, apple cider vinegar, and honey mustard. Bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes, or until a thick sauce has formed.

Step 5:

Remove ribs from the marinade mixture, and coat liberally with the sauce. Place on the prepared grill, and cook 1 1/2 to 2 hours, to an internal temperature of 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Brush frequently with the sauce while cooking.
