A CAMPAIGN FOR CAROLINA ATHLETICS GOAL: $500 MILLION Student-athletes are attracted to Carolina because of what our University represents – the opportunity to enjoy a collegiate experience athletically, academically and socially that will impact them for the rest of their lives. SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT GOAL: $200 MILLION

The cost of providing scholarship opportunities to Carolina student-athletes is growing at a rate with which current giving cannot keep pace. The scholarship gap, created when the yield from the Scholarship Endowment does not cover the full cost of scholarships, is currently covered by Annual Fund gifts. Donors to the Scholarship Endowment can address the scholarship gap by helping build the Endowment and solidifying the foundation of the Carolina Athletics scholarship program. A strong scholarship program allows Carolina to attract the best student-athletes to Chapel Hill. Donors to the Scholarship Endowment can put their name on a new scholarship (or honor someone of their choice) or add to an existing scholarship.

CAMPAIGN PRIORITY:

ANNUAL FUND GOAL: $120 MILLION

Scholarship costs for Carolina student-athletes have more than doubled in the last 10 years. The total cost for athletics scholarships in 2008-09 was $7.9 million. In 2018-19, that cost reached $17.9 million. The Annual Fund – made up of Rams Club members’ annual gifts of $100 to $25,000 – has absorbed much of this significant increase. Annual giving must grow in this campaign to keep pace with this scholarship challenge as well as other funding needs for Carolina Athletics. A membership drive to grow Rams Club membership to 22,000 members and to elevate giving from all current members looks to help meet the financial challenges. Donors to the Annual Fund have an immediate impact on Carolina student-athletes with their gifts, sustaining the athletics scholarship program and meeting many other critical needs of Carolina Athletics today.

TEAM SUPPORT GOAL: $65 MILLION

Team support encompasses gifts to any of Carolinaâ€™s team operating endowments, friends accounts and the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy. Each sports program at Carolina has its own operating endowment. The yield from these endowments is made available to the coach to help meet specific needs not covered in the regular operating budget. While the overall campaign is focused on meeting the needs of all 28 teams, the Sports Operating Endowments allow donors to help individual teams achieve the flexibility and autonomy they need to take advantage of unique opportunities in their sport. Donors to Sports Operating Endowments provide coaches with the ability to make decisions that can affect their program in the near-term with their legacy gift. Team support also includes donations to friends accounts, which provide an immediate increase to coachesâ€™ operating budgets to use at their discretion. Lastly, team support includes gifts to the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy, which develops, challenges and supports student-athletes, coaches and staff in their quest to become world-class leaders in athletics, academics and life.

Some of Carolina’s most storied programs look to take the next step in pursuit of championships with new facilities. In adjacent facilities, Carolina Football welcomes a new, comprehensive practice facility for the program, while Women’s and Men’s Soccer join Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse to usher in the new Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium. Field Hockey has already brought a national championship home to Karen Shelton Stadium, while Track & Field anticipates opening its first season at its new complex in 2020. You can impact the success of these programs for decades to come, and help them take the next step in their pursuits of championships. These new facilities and facility improvements directly impact 19 of Carolina’s 28 sports. In addition to these four projects, Carolina Athletics has already seen the completion of eight other facility projects or upgrades as a part of the Campaign for Carolina Athletics. Donors to facility projects will provide outstanding facilities in which our student-athletes can prepare and compete. CAMPAIGN SPOTLIGHT FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE Carolina boasts one of the greatest women’s athletics programs in the nation. Built by pioneers like Mia Hamm, Heather O’Reilly, Shalane Flanagan, Courtney Bumpers, Jenny Levy and Karen Shelton, Carolina Women’s Athletics has established a legacy of success that embodies the essence of what it means to be a Tar Heel. These women demonstrated dedication, ambition and toughness during their time in competition, and also committed their life’s work to making an impact on their community far beyond their playing years. As we look to chart a course for the next generation of Tar Heel women, The Rams Club and UNC Athletics are excited to announce FORevHER Tar Heels − an initiative to build and inspire a Carolina community that champions and empowers our women student-athletes. FORevHER Tar Heels will offer donors a chance not only to provide opportunities through scholarship, facilities and team support, but also through woman-to-woman mentorship and enhanced career networking. With a goal of raising $100 million in support of current and future women student-athletes, The Rams Club offers three areas of focus within our current campaign priorities that will directly impact women’s teams at Carolina:

CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES for CAROLINA ATHLETICS

CHAMPIONS. LEGENDS. LEADERS. The rich history of Carolina women’s athletics boasts 33 national championship titles (including ITAs), 31 individual national champions and four active Hall of Fame coaches. Perhaps even more impressive than this, is the inspiring collection of career paths forged by our women student-athlete alumnae. From doctors to CEOs to teachers, Carolina women have demonstrated time and again that their accomplishments in competition are just the beginning of their impact on the world.

VISION The Rams Club and Carolina Athletics aims to engage and activate a network of Tar Heels that will: • Offer opportunities to outstanding young women student-athletes to be part of the Carolina Family. • Provide resources for Carolina’s women’s sport programs to ensure success. • Participate in the development of student-athlete leaders who will impact their communities.

This collaborative effort will not only enhance the Carolina student-athlete experience, but will also allow alumnae and Rams Club members to invest their talents and resources in some of the most formative years of these women’s lives.

For student-athletes & coaches: • Our women student-athletes will have the opportunity to be mentored by successful alumnae and women members of The Rams Club. • This initiative will provide resources to enhance our career networking program and events. • FORevHER Tar Heels will add to our coaches’ arsenal of recruiting tools -- a powerful network of women Tar Heels supporting

For donors and alumnae: • Our most supportive donors to and alumnae of our women’s sport programs will have the opportunity to develop personal connections with our student-athletes so they can see their impact in action. • This initiative will provide an opportunity for donors to directly participate in the development of our women student-athletes. For Carolina Athletics & The Rams Club: • FORevHER Tar Heels will provide new funds and support for women’s athletics at Carolina, including scholarship, capital projects, team support, leadership development and career networking. • Ultimately, this initiative will enhance the overall female student-athlete experience at Carolina!
