PROJECT 01: MASS FORMS RAMNA W.
PROJECT 01 — MASS FORMS This project began with a series of line sketches that were translated into a 4 × 4 × 4 inch foam model. Through carving and experimenting with curves, negative spaces, and different forms, the design was gradually developed and scaled up to an 8 × 8 × 8 inch model. Throughout the process, I explored different casting techniques and refined the shape to create the final cast. The project helped me better understand the relationship between solid and void, as well as how a two-dimensional drawing can develop into a three-dimensional form.
LINEWORK EXPLORATION The project began with six different line drawings where I experimented with straight lines, curves, and overlapping shapes. Each drawing explored different ways lines could interact and create interesting forms. These sketches became the starting point for developing my 3D foam model, where I translated the 2D linework into carved surfaces and negative spaces.
CASTING EXPERIMENTS
Throughout this project, I created six casting samples to explore different forms, textures, and negative spaces. Each sample allowed me to experiment with how foam molds could be used to create solid forms while incorporating curves and voids. Through this process, I gained a better understanding of how different design decisions affect the final cast and used what I learned to further develop my final model.
