DESIGNING IN A LANDMARK DISTRICT 147 St Felix Street situated at the edge of a historic district, giving some leeway to a more contemporary and modern design to the west facade facing Atlantic Terminal.

The 80’ facade was broken down by a Blackened Stainless Steel accent to follow the existing urban fabric.

LEARNING FROM THE PAST Facade material consist of Brick and Blackened Stainless Steel to accentuate the building ,which is inspired by the industrial metalwork found throughout the neighbourhood. The exterior design is inspired by the varied scale windows of the previous historic building which was collapsed during the subway construction.

The design of 147 Saint Felix Street was conceived to complement and preserve the unique character of Fort Greene Historic Landmark District in which it is located— a neighbourhood containing many examples of mid-19th century Italianate and Eastlake architecture, most of which are well preserved. Fort Freene is known for its many tree-lined streets and elegant and greatly varied low-rise housing.

THE MASSING

The street facing massing stepped away and terraced at various levels, from the podium to the upper residential levels, to engage and connect the front yard.

THE WHITE APARTMENT LAVASAN-IR

THE WHITE APARTMENT The design concept was to build 3 completely separate units. Also, using green balconies and big outdoor spaces in a way to give it a villa impression. The architect Combined indoor and outdoor spaces and controlled exposure from outside. Also, these 3 separated units benefit of separated access.

THE White apartment form is close to a typical attic villa form. The sloped ceiling continues to wrap the building as the façade’s walls. This wrap starts from one corner and continues on the façade to form the entrance. Finally, it continues to the courtyard’s wall and the balconies. In this fashion, the building looks rather like a villa than an apartment. Also, the upper unit benefits 5 meters height.
