The Ramble Worldwide way

A responsible travel ethos

Ramble Worldwide has always distinguished itself within the travel industry as one of the original responsible travel businesses. Everything we do is with a social heart and keen focus on charitable giving. Any surplus profits are channelled into outdoor charities, conservation projects, and walking initiatives throughout the UK, as well as supporting the local communities we visit around the world. This means that every step you take on your holiday gives back.

4 Ramble Worldwide | Walking Holidays | 2024 - 2025

Sustainable tourism

We endeavour to create more sustainable travel experiences for our guests. By operating small groups on foot and approaching all that we do ethically, we’re able to minimise any adverse effects of our activities.

We recognise the social, economic, and environmental responsibilities of tour operators and work within the guidelines set by organisations such as ABTA and AITO, as well as pushing our own best practice. Like all operators, we still have work to do, but our focus

in the year ahead will look to embrace the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), striving to protect and improve life through the power of travel – for the people we meet, places we explore, and planet we live on.

Charitable Trust

Since 2000, we’ve given more than £5 million to our Charitable Trust, which in turn uses the money to support a wide range of walking-related activities for people from all communities.

Funds are directed towards improving access to the great outdoors. This includes maintaining and improving footpaths such as the 108-mile Dartmoor Way, backing the Ramblers' work through campaigns such as ‘Don’t Lose Your Way’ which aims to protect and keep UK footpaths open for all, and via small grants to organisations like the Outward Bound Trust.

In September 2023, our Trust launched a new partnership with Mind Over Mountains. This charity believes in restoring mental health naturally

Ethical initiatives

and offers support in the UK through therapeutic outdoor experiences. Over the next three years, our Trust will provide bursaries for individuals to experience Mind Over Mountains’ wellbeing walks and weekend retreats where they’ll have unpressured time to ramble and talk with professionals.

For more information about our Trust and the work we support, please visit rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-trust

We’re proud of our Walking Partnership, Heart & Sole venture, and head office operations.

The Walking Partnership was set up to support walking clubs throughout the UK that encourage people to get outside as well as help clear and improve footpaths in their area. Each time a walking club member books a holiday with us, they can nominate their club to receive a financial contribution that directly benefits their club.

The staff-led Heart & Sole initiative aims to reach the heart of the communities in countries we visit and to react and support in times of crisis. In line with

our responsible ethos, it's aided Project Dignity in South Africa, supported the Red Cross and local projects in Morocco following the devastating earthquake, and helped with animal welfare.

Our mantra is to reduce and recycle - on a daily basis this is brought to life at our Lemsford Mill head office where we’ve resurrected the waterwheel which now supplies us with enough green energy to power our operations.

The best things come in small packages

Our walking groups offer security, friendship, and a shared love of travel. And for added peace of mind, everything’s taken care of thanks to the dedication and expert guidance of our leaders, so you can leave all the planning and navigation to us because it’s what we do best.

Informal, relaxed, and flexible

Our small informal groups offer a unique way to see some of Europe’s finest places, with some flexibility too. On most tours, we give you a free day where you can enjoy some quiet time to yourself, if you so wish. And if you’re travelling solo, it doesn’t mean travelling alone. We always ensure that you’re made to feel part of the group.

Adagio Collection grading at a glance:

Gentle – perfect for those who like easy walking and sightseeing on foot at a relaxed tempo

Grade 1: A relaxing way to explore, where we’ve perfected the art of taking our time. You don’t need to be a seasoned walker or fit enough to walk for miles to join these itineraries. All trips at this grade focus on quality time. We encourage everyone to pause and take in their surroundings, strolling on foot at a leisurely pace.

Walks average - Distance: Up to 3 miles; Ascent/Descent 50m; Time: Over the duration of a day.

Leisurely – great for those who love walking and exploring and are happy with gentle ascents and descents

Walks average - Distance: 3 miles; Ascent/Descent 150-200m; Time: Short or half-day exploration. Leisurely

Grade 2: This grade mixes active sightseeing with shorter, city, or countryside walks. Trips aren’t aimed at seasoned walkers, but you should be confident in managing walks of around 3 miles at a leisurely pace with a few ups and downs. Where in more mountainous areas, we use transport to access higher ground with ease.

Grade 3: We still class this grade as Leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than Grade 2, with undulations but over a longer distance. Where sightseeing distances are longer, we take a full day with opportunities to stop, rest, and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks.

Walks average - Distance: 4 miles; Ascent/Descent 300m; Time: Half-day or full-day walks.

Experienced leaders & local guides

Our holidays wouldn’t be what they are without the expertise and enthusiasm of our highly-trained leaders. Carefully selected, these experienced individuals are as passionate about the great outdoors as you are and will bring your walking holiday to life.

Our leaders are full of energy and ideas and are always learning new skills to make sure you get the most out of every holiday.

We also use local guides on many of our holidays. Usually native to the area, they have an in-depth understanding of the destination’s culture, history, and customs which enables us to create unique itineraries that’ll leave you with great insights and lasting memories.

One of our leaders, Liz Morgan explains what her favourite thing about leading a walking holiday with us is: I enjoy interacting with people and being able to show them different places of the country. Ramble Worldwide customers have paid to join a holiday, so I feel it’s my job to ensure they really enjoy the experience and go away thinking about how great their holiday was, and that they’d like to travel with us again.

“Everyone agreed the group leader was very competent, helpful, friendly, and she had great pleasure in ensuring that all clients had a first class holiday.” - Mr J Gardiner

3) HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS

Accommodation

Accommodation is generally in twin or double and single bedded rooms with en suite facilities. There are often variations in room size, fixtures, fittings, and views.

Prices shown are based on two persons sharing a double or twin room. Hotels usually charge single or sole occupancy supplements. Although a room for sole occupancy guarantees privacy, it may be smaller, less well-appointed or located and may contain single, double, or twin beds. The number of single and sole occupancy rooms is however ultimately limited, as are the number of rooms available without supplement. If you are booking online for a holiday advertised with no sole occupancy supplement, please do not assume that if you book a place in a twin room that this will be for sole use.

You may often be able to opt to share a twin room with another group member of the same sex. If we are unable to find you a room-sharer by the balance due date, we reserve the right to allocate you a single occupancy

room and charge you the full single room price – you can either accept this full price or opt to cancel your booking and receive a full refund of your deposit.

Accommodation details can be found on individual holiday pages and on separate Holiday Information Sheets downloadable from our website or available on request.

Where an official accommodation rating system operates we will state the rating awarded, although local ratings do not necessarily operate to any UK accommodation rating system and standards can vary between hotels of the same class, even in the same country. We try to ensure that accommodation complies with reasonable fire, health and safety standards however we cannot guarantee that these will meet UK standards.

Visit rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-holidays/accommodation and rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-holidays/terms-and-conditions for more information.

Meals

The meal arrangement on most holidays is half-board which includes breakfast (usually continental) and evening meals (or occasionally lunch). Included dinners are either at the hotel or a local restaurant and consist of two or three courses. Where a holiday includes ‘all meals’, lunch is usually a packed lunch. Many airlines and train operators now charge for on board food and beverages, details will be sent with your travel documents.

Please note that although vegetarian eating is becoming more widespread, in some destinations the concept of vegetarian or vegan eating may be unusual or incomprehensible to locals and some tolerance or patience may still be needed at mealtimes.

In some countries it may be difficult to cater for special meal requirements, including food allergies, and you should have realistic expectations of what can be provided locally. Should your dietary requirements be restrictive or you have a critical food allergy, food choices may be limited and you may wish to consider bringing some personal supplies, including some allergy-safe food and snacks, to supplement locally provided meals. Carrying food allergy translation cards (chef cards) may also be useful to ensure hotels and restaurants are aware of your allergy despite language barriers.

Please ask us for advice should you have any particular dietary concerns. Visit rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-holidays/accommodation

Flight & rail arrangements

All outward departure and homeward flight or rail times included in our brochures and websites are provisional and were correct at the time of publication, but they can, and often do, change before holidays depart. Please do not finalise any independently booked connecting domestic or international travel, accommodation, parking or other arrangements in connection with your holiday booking before checking with us and certainly not earlier than 14 weeks before the intended start date of your holiday with us. There may be onerous cancellation terms attached to independent pre-booked travel and hotel arrangements for which we cannot accept responsibility and we recommend that you check these carefully before finalising any arrangements. See also paragraphs 7 and 8 of our Booking Conditions at rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-holidays/ terms-and-conditions

Should flight or rail times change so that you will need to revise your outbound travel arrangements and overnight in the UK prior to your holiday or return to the UK too late to continue your journey home from your UK arrival airport, we cannot accept responsibility for the cost of overnight accommodation.

Please note that flight-inclusive holiday prices are based on selected flights which are subject to availability. We have no control over the allocation of seats by an airline and they may change the seat allocated to you at their discretion. Please book early as flight prices may increase close to the holiday departure date or during periods of high demand.

Tour leaders

A Ramble Worldwide holiday would not be what it is without the expertise and enthusiasm of our tour leaders.

Experienced in leading groups, usually but not necessarily in the area of the holiday, each has their own individual style, particular talents and personalities to bring your holiday alive. All are first aid trained and hold walking leader qualifications appropriate to the nature of holidays they lead. In some destinations our tour leaders will be locally recruited, trained, and qualified. See page 8, and our website at rambleworldwide.co.uk/about-us/our-leaders

48 Ramble Worldwide | Walking Holidays | 2024 - 2025 Essential Information

Group sizes

Our small group guided holidays usually consist of 10 to 18 travellers, although higher grade holidays may be limited to fewer participants for safety reasons. Cultural or sightseeing holidays may have up to 22 group members. Holidays operating with two tour leaders and offering walks at different grades may travel as a larger group with walks and holiday activities carried out in two smaller groups.

Like all group tour operators, we require a minimum number of participants to operate each holiday. Should the minimum number not be reached, we reserve the right to cancel the departure. Conversely, we do not guarantee a minimum number of travelling companions.

Changes while on holiday

Advertised holiday itineraries may be changed on the spot due to unexpected events, weather conditions or for reasons of health, safety and security. The final decision for any such changes lies with your tour leader. We cannot be held responsible for disruption to planned itineraries arising from weather conditions or situations beyond our control such as earthquakes, or industrial, political or social unrest. Every reasonable effort however will be made to provide suitable alternative activities and to ensure that you have the best holiday possible. See also paragraph 8 of our Booking Conditions.

Winter activity holidays

On our winter activity holidays, in the event of insufficient snow cover to carry out a planned skiing or snowshoeing activity programme, an alternative walking programme will be provided. Conversely, in the event of excess snow or other adverse weather conditions which may prevent the advertised programme being carried out safely, it may be necessary to alter or suspend holiday arrangements based on the advice of local authorities and guides.

Mobile phones

Please provide us with a mobile phone number to enable us to contact you at the very last minute or during your holiday – particularly during your outward travel. Please also keep your phone switched on and where you can hear it when heading to the airport, if delayed en route or if unexpectedly separated from the group during the holiday activities.

As a matter of courtesy to your travelling companions, please minimise your use and obtrusiveness of your mobile phone or other device during group activities and meals.

Wi-Fi

If Wi-Fi is provided at your accommodation, it may not be available in all rooms and bandwidths may vary. Some accommodations may also charge for Wi-Fi access. Signal strength may be reduced at times. We cannot guarantee or accept responsibility for the availability, performance or security of any Wi-Fi service provided during your holiday, nor of any costs resulting from data usage while roaming.

Tipping

In some countries, tipping is an unavoidable part of tourism and hospitality life and, although discretional, tipping expectations in some destinations can be high. For most holidays, a tipping allowance in line with reasonable local expectations is included in the holiday charge. For some long-haul holidays guidance is provided on recommended additional tips to ensure your holiday arrangements run smoothly. Where meals are not included in the holiday charge, your tour leader will be able to provide advice on tipping expectations at local restaurants.

Although we will ask you to pay a deposit when registering, should you decide not to proceed with the booking, we will refund your deposit in full.

Special requests

Where you specify a preference for specific room facilities, a particular dietary or other request, we will seek to accommodate your request. We will pass on all such requests to the hotel(s) or other suppliers concerned and will do our best to help, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet your needs every time. Confirmation that a special request has been passed on to a hotel or other holiday service provider or the inclusion of your special request on your confirmation invoice or other travel documents is not confirmation that the request will be met.

If you specifically request single occupancy of a room, an additional supplement may be incurred. Similarly if we request an additional single room on your behalf, a higher supplement than advertised may be incurred. When booking a twin or double room you should clearly request either a double bed or twin beds, otherwise we shall assume that either is acceptable.

Some requests will be very much subject to availability and would only be allocated on arrival if available. Special requests are not covered by our Booking Conditions so are not a part of your holiday contract with us.

Loyalty Points

Our Rewards Scheme is our way of saying ‘thank you’. So as well as getting great holidays at great prices, you can redeem Loyalty Points earned on previous holidays for an even better price on a future booking. You earn two Loyalty Points for every £1 spent. Once you return you can use these points to reduce the cost of your next adventure! Every 100 points can be redeemed as a £1 discount.

All Loyalty Points are valid for two years from the date of travel on the booking on which they are earned. The terms of any Loyalty Points scheme (including its continuation) are at our sole discretion and may be changed at any time. Loyalty Points may only be used by way of part payment towards the cost of a holiday organised and sold by RWH Travel Ltd as principal. They are awarded separately to all individual travellers on a booking based on the value of their individual arrangements. Loyalty Points will be credited against the balance of the holiday cost and not the deposit. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for cash or any form of credit and cannot be transferred to or used by another person or in any other way. In the event of a cancellation of a booking paid for in part by Loyalty Points, any refund will firstly be made by way of re-crediting the Loyalty Points to your account. The original expiry date will apply to any such re-credited points. We are entitled to discontinue any Loyalty Points scheme at any time but will honour any Loyalty Points which have already been awarded on the basis of the then applicable terms.

8) ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ADVICE

Foreign travel advice

For the latest travel advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO travel advice), including security and local laws, plus passport and visa information check gov.uk/travelaware. The FCDO has also produced a Foreign Travel Checklist which can be found at gov.uk/guidance/foreign-travel-checklist

We strongly recommend that you check the FCDO travel advice for up-todate information on the countries you will be visiting before booking. The advice can change so do check regularly for updates.

Travel health advice

Current travel health advice is available at travelhealthpro.org.uk and fitfortravel.nhs.uk. If you do need inoculations to travel, please ensure that you organise these in good time before your departure.

9) PARTICIPATION & PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Passports & visas

Every traveller will need a valid passport when travelling overseas or as identification when boarding a flight, international rail service or cruise ship. You should ensure that your passport is valid for your travel dates and if not, make sure it is renewed in good time for your holiday. Details of passport and visa requirements can be found at gov.uk/ foreign-travel-advice. Please note that visa requirements and charges are subject to change without warning so we recommend that you

check the entry requirements for your destination from time to time before travel.

Additional passport and visa advice is available from ABTA at abta.com/ tips-and-advice/planning-and-booking-a-holiday/passports-and-visas

When travelling, check the passport you are carrying is yours and that you have packed it in your hand luggage before you travel to the airport or other departure point. We recommend that you carry a photocopy of your passport separately from your main travel documents.

It is your sole responsibility to check that you comply with the entry requirements for the countries you intend to visit during your holiday. We cannot accept responsibility for any additional costs or losses due to you failing to carry the necessary travel or health documents or otherwise being denied travel or entry to any country included in your holiday arrangements.

Travel insurance

It is a condition of booking that you obtain adequate travel insurance, from a reputable provider, to undertake the holiday including UK trips, chiefly due to the cancellation element of cover.

The policy must cover the period from the date of booking to the last day of your trip and should include, as a minimum, cover for medical expenses, mountain rescue including helicopter rescue, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment and shall not have exclusion clauses limiting cover for the activities you will partake in on your trip, including altitudes reached in the holiday arrangement. It is your responsibility to check that your policy is adequate for the nature and destination of the holiday booked.

In the event that you fail to obtain suitable travel insurance we shall not be liable for any costs incurred or claims made against us due to your failure to comply with this term.

If travelling outside the UK you must carry proof of insurance with you and produce it if reasonably requested to do so by Ramble Worldwide staff, tour leaders or suppliers. No refunds will be made should you be excluded from the walking programme through being uninsured or you being unable to demonstrate that you are insured.

Our house broker MPI should be considered, for whom we are an affiliate, and contact information is on our website and will be referred to in your booking confirmation.

If you are travelling to an EU country or Switzerland please also ensure that you have either an existing valid EU EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) or a valid UK GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card). You can apply for a UK GHIC free of charge on the NHS website at services.nhsbsa.nhs. uk/cra/start

More information can be found on our website at rambleworldwide. co.uk/faqs and in paragraph 18 of our Booking Conditions.

Footwear, clothing & experience

It is your responsibility to bring proper outdoor clothing and footwear appropriate to the nature of the holiday and to choose a holiday appropriate to your fitness levels and capability. For easier (Leisurely) holiday grades, we provide recommendations as to appropriate footwear, for higher grade holidays, we provide advice on minimum standards and indicate the sort of footwear we consider essential. We do not consider walking sandals appropriate footwear for holidays or walks operating at Grade 4 or above.

See our website at rambleworldwide.co.uk/faqs. Should you have any concerns or queries contact us for advice.

Age, fitness & participation

If you have any concerns regarding your fitness or the suitability of a holiday, please contact us and we will be happy to give you some advice. Choosing the right walking grade to suit your ability and comfort level is key to your enjoyment as well as the enjoyment and safety of your travelling companions.

Please avoid selecting a holiday beyond your physical capabilities, or even well under your normal capacity – unless you would be happy with a slower pace.

Some holidays may necessitate prolonged strenuous physical activity on successive days. Others may involve early starts and long days with substantial travel on some days. Please also bear in mind when considering health conditions and general comfort that vehicle and road standards may not be comparable to those expected in the UK.

If you are booking a holiday at Grade 6 or above, are over 70 or have apparently experienced difficulty on a previous holiday, we may discuss the nature and demands of the holiday with you to ensure that you book the right holiday for your fitness and ability.

We do not generally consider our holidays suitable for under 16s, especially under 13s. At the other end of the scale, if you are 75 or over, we strongly recommend that you have a medical check before booking.

50 Ramble Worldwide | Walking Holidays | 2024 - 2025 Essential Information

Safety on holiday

You should be aware that travelling to novel destinations, into hill, coastal and mountainous terrain and unfamiliar cities presents a wider range of hazards and risks than you would normally encounter at home. Terrain, altitude, climate, and weather conditions may be more challenging. You are likely to be more active and for longer than you are used to, subject to more distractions from the world around you and from conversations with your travelling companions. You will also be exposed to different food, water, and other drinks, and local specialities than you will be used to.

Some of our holiday locations and local walking and activity programmes may involve inherent hazards and the acceptance of a degree of personal risk such as exposure to illness, injury or inconvenience and discomfort.

Temperatures, humidity or altitudes may be higher than you are used to, changes in diet may affect you and unpleasant insects and other wildlife may be encountered.

When travelling, you are often doing so in unfamiliar environments, cultures and where there are different perspectives on hygiene, health, safety, and personal security. In some destinations, local lifestyles, outlook, and values may differ considerably from what you have been used to.

When on holiday and in a relaxed frame of mind, you are likely to be more vulnerable to crime, so please try to be aware of what is going on around you and aim to recognise what is ‘normal’ in the destination.

There is a lot of useful information on the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s travel advice unit website at gov.uk/foreign-traveladvice. We are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have about our activities, itineraries and aspects of health, safety and security at our destinations.

Travellers with disabilities, medical conditions or impairments

We want to ensure that our holidays are accessible to as many people as possible. We also recognise that the term ‘disability’ covers a broad range of impairments, many of which have no impact on mobility or the ability to participate in our holidays.

The nature of our holidays does mean however, that some will not be accessible to those with certain disabilities, medical conditions or impairments.

All of our holidays involve a degree of physical activity, a range of terrains at times requiring a steadiness of foot, a reasonable sense of balance and, being small group guided walking holidays, the need to move as a group during the day’s organised activities.

If you have any disability or medical condition which may prevent your participation, or that of other group members, in the advertised holiday arrangements in any way, please contact us before or at the time of booking for advice. We are always happy to discuss any disability-related needs with you and will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate them if full details are provided in writing at the time of booking.

If we feel that we cannot meet your needs, we reserve the right to decline your booking. In addition, if, after booking your holiday, a disability-related additional need becomes evident that we cannot properly accommodate, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation.

Provision of essential personal information

It is essential that you provide us in good time with the personal details necessary to provide the holiday arrangements for you and those travelling with you. Should you decline or fail to provide us with the necessary information we will consider this a cancellation by you.

Cooperation & conduct

The success of each holiday depends to a great extent on group members’ abilities to participate physically and cooperate with their travelling companions and the tour leader.

The tour leader has full authority to exclude any member, either from part of the daily programme or, in extreme cases, from the entire tour if he or she is in the leader’s reasonable opinion, either physically unable to participate, behaves in a way which is detrimental to the interests or safety of the party as a whole, is inadequately equipped or does not have adequate travel insurance.

If, in the reasonable opinion of our tour leader, your behaviour is causing, or is likely to cause, danger, upset, damage to property or is persistently affecting the enjoyment of others, we reserve the right to terminate your holiday. Should this happen, no refund or compensation will be paid and we will have no further responsibility to you for your holiday arrangements including your return travel.

For more advice see rambleworldwide.co.uk/our-holidays/termsand-conditions for our Booking Conditions and also rambleworldwide. co.uk/faqs

Dogs or other pets

We regret that we are unable to accept dogs or other pets on our holidays,

either at our hotels or accompanying our walks or other activities, unless specifically stated in the holiday descriptions. If you have a disability and require a registered assistance dog, please contact us.

Language

All holidays are carried out in English. Unless travelling with an Englishspeaking companion, we will be unable to accept bookings for travellers unable to effectively communicate with the tour leader or other persons responsible for the safety and wellbeing of those travelling with us.
