Reasons to choose Ramble Worldwide Small groups Travelling in a small group is one of the most enjoyable and sociable ways to explore the world. Our guests come from all walks of life and ages, united by a love of walking and discovering new places. Around half of each group are solo travellers, and average group sizes sit at around 14 people. Smaller groups let us step off the beaten track with confidence, exploring places you might hesitate to visit alone while feeling far less conspicuous than in a larger group. We also offer flexibility to shape your holiday around your needs: solo travellers can choose a single room or, where hotels charge a supplement, opt to share a twin with another guest of the same sex to avoid extra cost. The grades are divided into four simple categories. Gentle, Leisurely, Moderate, and Challenging, helping you choose the level that’s right for you. Which walk is right for me? Gentle

Perfect for those who like easy walking and sightseeing on foot at a relaxed tempo.

Great for those who love walking and exploring, plus are happy with gentle ascents and descents.

Grade 3

A relaxing way to explore, where we’ve perfected the art of taking our time. You don’t need to be a seasoned walker or fit enough to walk for miles to join these itineraries. All trips at this grade are part of our Adagio Collection, where the focus is on quality time. We encourage everyone to pause and take in their surroundings, strolling on foot at a leisurely pace.

This grade mixes active sightseeing with shorter city or countryside walks. Trips aren't aimed at seasoned walkers, but you should be able to manage walks of around 3 miles at a leisurely pace, with a few ups and downs. In more mountainous areas, we use transport to access higher ground. Holidays at this grade are generally part of our Adagio or Discover Collections.

We still class this grade as Leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than those at Grade 2, with undulations over a longer distance. When sightseeing distances are longer, we allocate a full day with plenty of opportunities to stop, rest, and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks along the way.

Walks average – Distance: Up to 3 miles; Ascent/Descent: 50m; Time: Over the duration of a day.

Walks average – Distance: 3 miles; Ascent/Descent: 150 to 200m; Time: Short or half-day exploration.

Walks average – Distance: 4 miles; Ascent/Descent: 300m; Time: Half-day or full-day walks.

Moderate Best suited to those who like full-day walks with some varied terrain and a moderate amount of height gain.

Grade 5

Usually, your walk will occupy the whole day at a moderate pace. Many holidays in our Discover Collection will have an element of sightseeing as well. The terrain is often hilly, with generally good paths, though in mountainous areas, you might encounter rougher paths. Walks vary from as little as 3 miles on a sightseeing day up to 10 miles on a full day, depending on the amount of ascent and descent required.

Trips comprise of day walks with plenty of ups and downs. Some steep and rough ground will be encountered at times. Walks average around 7 miles with 650m of ascent/descent. Some holidays cover longer distances on easier paths, while others may involve shorter walks with more demanding ascents and terrain.

Full-day walks with appreciable amounts of ascent and descent, covering longer distances. While you’ll primarily be on paths, they may be rough, steep, and loose. We take the whole day to enjoy some fabulous walks.

These holidays are typically in mountainous areas where stamina is important to be able to enjoy longer days. There's plenty of ascent and descent on some rough and steep paths, requiring good footwear, a steady step, and a head for heights. While some days may involve shorter distances or less ascent/ descent, the overall effort required is generally higher.

These are our most challenging trips, featuring demanding mountain walking with long, rewarding ascents, descents, and possibly some scrambling. A good level of fitness, stamina, a head for heights, and prior experience with mountain walking are essential.

Walks average – Distance: 8 miles; Ascent/Descent: 850m; Time: 8 hours/full day.

Walks average – Distance: 10 miles; Ascent/Descent: 950m; Time: 8 hours+/long days.

Adaptive Grandslam Adaptive Grandslam is an organisation specifically designed to challenge and support members of the disabled community. AGS selects, trains, and develops disabled teams to undertake extreme expeditions and challenges, supported by professional expedition leaders. This helps members of the disabled community regain confidence, independence, and meaningful occupation.

National Trails UK National Trails UK is the only organisation dedicated to championing and strengthening the UK’s network of designated National Trails. The Trust is delighted to have provided funds to support signposting and waymarking along the Cotswold Way, Pennine Bridleway, and Thames Path. Every stay is magical Hassness Country House lets you take a step back from the frantic world beyond the fells. Known for the warm hospitality, you’ll often find sheep grazing and red squirrels scurrying around just outside the doors. There are 11 bedrooms available (7 with en suite facilities), accommodating 19 people. All boast stunning views, plus the lounge is delightful with a large picture window overlooking the lake. A small honesty bar offers a selection of red and white wines, beer, and a small assortment of spirits.

Day 3 Today, we travel by bus to the historic town of Sandwich, known for its many medieval buildings. You may wish to visit the town’s museum or take in an aerial view from St. Peter’s Church tower. After lunch, we’ll head out into the countryside, following the River Stour and perhaps reaching as far as the sea. Day 4 We have private transport to take us inland to Leeds Castle. The castle is steeped in history, and we’ll have time to explore the building and grounds.
