A conscientious and ambitious architecture professional, I have completed my studies at the Architectural Association in London and have earned an AA Diploma along with my RIBA parts 1 and 2. I have recently been awarded my RIBA part 3 qualification and subsequently registered with the Architect’s Registration Board in the UK. While working in the UK, Jordan, and the UAE, I have been involved in all RIBA work stages, and have shown strength and interest in post concept stages and project delivery.

My wide range of experience has helped me grow my ability to multitask, and am now able to work more efficiently in all stages and with different teams. I am always eager to learn and grow from my work and my colleagues, and as a result have shown great attention to detail and exceptional diligence in my work. I have been given several opportunities to lead projects, both in early and in later design stages, and have shown great ability to coordinate with consultants and project teams in the delivery of high quality documentation and projects. I have also developed my communication skills over the years of managing both internal and external project teams.

Outside of project work, I have been involved in digital practice groups at Gensler and Perkins and Will, and have always been interested in exploring new digital platforms and innovative solutions that aid in project delivery and construction. I also enjoy organising office wide social events with my colleagues.

Rama Khalaf AA Dipl. / ARB / RIBA Professional Experience Perkins and Will / Dubai, United Arab Emirates /Architect/full time 01.2017 - present I am currently developing a civic center project in Egypt and coordinating with consultants to deliver the Developed Design (SD) Documentation.

I was a core team member on two other hotel projects: Movenpick hotel and resort in Ras Al Khaimah (currently under construction) where I was an active member since Concept Design, and Vida Hotel and Serviced Apartments in Bahrain (currently under construction) where I led a team of four to deliver a fully coordinated Technical Design package.

Additionally, I helped create a Digital Discussion group within the office to discuss BIM related issues. Furthermore, I worked closely with the Technical Director to draft a full set of technical details and schedule templates to be used throughout the office.

Gensler / Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates /part II architectural assistant/full time 09.2013 - 01.2017 I was involved in large-scale retail and mixed use developments, and several large scale commercial and residential competitions.

Most notable projects were the Aston Martin showroom in Abu Dhabi, a hospitality tower competition in Dubai, a business district concept competition in Kuwait, and a sustainabe prefabricated model for an office compound in Riyadh.

I initiated a Digital Design group to organise digital resources at the office. I also delivered a research grant proposal within the company, focusing on re-thinking life patterns as soundscapes.

Movenpick Hotel and Resort • Collaborated with all sub-consultants throughout all design stages.

• Worked mainly on the chalets, beach grill, and beach restaurant throughout the Schematic Design and Detail Design stages, and produced all the relevant documentation.

• Prepared authority submissions at the Concept Design and Detail Design stages.

• Delivered the Tender submission with a small team.

• Managed all tender queries we received and followed up with all relevant sub-consultants for their responses.

• Delivered the IFC submission while picking up all comments and queries received at the Tender Stage.

• Worked in revit throughout all project stages.

• Produced all the typical details that were used for the project, with the help of the Technical Director.

Chedi Hotel Ras Al Hadd • Built the facade of the hotel in revit, and created unique families for the mashrabiya.

Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road • Led a small team of two people during the design and submission of the competition.

• Actively involved in all aspects of the design, both in 3D and in terms of planning.

• Coordinated with the sub-consultants to submit a fully coordinated Concept Design • Dealt directly with the visualisers to produce high quality visuals at a low cost.

• Dealt with a 3D modelling company to produce a small scale model of the tower for the submission.

• Developed the facade using grasshopper, which was used to control the size of the triangles according to the floor to floor heights and material thicknesses.

• Aided in the production of the different typical floor plans and their respective facade treatment diagram.

• Involved in putting together the final design report submission.

The Avenues Bahrain Phase 1: • Aided in developing design options for the Concept Design stage.

Program: Retail

• Responsible for developing the internal elevations of ‘The Grand Avenue’, which included detailing the floor plans and elevations to match.

• Produced enlarged plans, sections, and internal elevations for each retail unit in Autocad.

• Produced coloured elevations for the Developed Design report, highlighting all the different materials used per unit elevation.

Phase 2: • Developed several options for the phase 2 expansion.

• Designed and built the 3D models of the districts that were used for client presentations (The Village, The Forum, and The Grand Avenue) • Worked on design options for the ETFE roof over ‘The Village’ district.

• Developed internal elevation types to match phase 1.

The Corporate Domain: amazon.com The project thesis deals with an issue that we are facing now more than ever - that of the virtual world taking over. This is not only starting to affect the physical manifestation of existing modern corporations, but it is also redefining the physicality of corporations that still only exist in the virtual world. The argument is as follows.

1. Corporate ratios: As a digital company, the need for office space is not as imperative to that of a typical corporation.

2. Resources: This project is concerned with how this type of corporation could develop a “give and take” relationship with its neighbours, using its resources while also allowing it to use Amazon’s resources.

3. Localism: By placing Amazon in Manhattan and giving it a local footprint in a highly culture and knowledge based neighbourhood.

The project reverses the general model of a corporate structure by minimizing the footprint of corporate spaces while creating a platform for people to physically interact with the corporation. This interaction is further enhanced by the transparencies of its facades, giving the spaces some sort of hierarchy in terms of accessibility.

AA Summer Pavilion 1. Controlling Chaos I worked on one of the winning concepts for a Pavilion, named ‘Controlling Chaos’.

2. De-Lamina Pavilion The Concept of ‘Controlling Chaos’ was developed into a pavilion along with a team of 4.

3. Driftwood Pavilion The final winner of the competition, Driftwood pavilion was designed and built by a group of 12 students. Driftwood was made up of a timber box beam with attached diaphragms that hold the sculptural plywood pieces.

I acted as the project manager within the team, and had to keep track of our progress to ensure that construction was going on as planned.

After the pavilion was built in Bedford Square, it was later sold and had to be transported to the South of France to be reconstructed in a private residence.
