All Club Members recently received a survey soliciting their views of the events the club offered this year plus events that were not offered this year, but that they would like to see on next year's agenda. Some members have asked why we sent the survey out since it would be an invitation for unhappy Club Members to complain. To be clear, the survey was sent out to receive your feedback, both unfavorable and favorable At the beginning of this year, many Board Members were new and we offered a wide range of activities with varied attendance We want to do a better job meeting members' needs for 2025 and will use the information you forwarded in the survey, along with other attendance information we have and feedback we have received during this year in preparing the 2025 agenda.
Our Club today is not the same Club we started about 25 years ago. At that time, we were a small Club and most members knew every other member. Our cars were simpler then with most members owning a 911 or 356 Porsche. Many members did their own maintenance and tech sessions were put on by a member in their garage. Member meetings were breakfast sessions at the Pancake House and special events and holiday parties were held at a member's house. A high percentage of the membership attended all events that the Club offered.
Today we have a very different Club. It has grown to over 500 members with a wide range of Porsches and varying degrees of interest in the Club activities. Cars of today are far more complicated and about impossible for current owners to perform even basic maintenance Communications with the members are far different today We have a very viable website, a social media presence, a professional downshift magazine, and a Monday Morning Message. to the total membership, probably only 25-35% participate in any Club activities. Our goal is to increase member participation by offering interesting activities. One thing is for certain, nothing stays the same and the Club needs to be flexible to stay up with the times.
The results of the survey will be tabulated and shared with all members. We will use the information to modify next year's agenda. During the year we have received various positive comments from Club members. Next year improvements will only happen with all of us working together to continue to build on the strong foundation of our Club which will celebrate its 25th Anniversary next April.

Our HDR President just emailed me his monthly Presidents message and called me to discuss. As some of you know we call each other often and have tacos We do not always agree about which restaurant has the best tacos.
I have never met a more dedicated man in my life, he has been a PCA member for 51 years and was instrumental in creating our HDR Region almost 25 years ago.
My wife Linda and I joined the HDRPCA Region about six years ago and without a doubt this club final came alive in 2024 with tours, driving events and social activities. In January of this year, Fred assembled Board members and volunteers that were dedicated to serve the needs of HRD Membership. We can all thank Fred.
We need more Fred’s in this world

October 4th to 6th
Eight Porsches headed north with fifteen attendees, Ken and Audrey, Ralph and Linda, Val and Sandy, Kris and Carolyn, Hack, Craig and Kelly, Robert and Jennie, and Ron and Wendy.
The weather on Friday was cool and some rain in the Dalles with promises of sunny skies on the weekend.
Kris and Carolyn braved the cool weather, Porsche style!
Sunshine Mill Winery for lunch and wine tasting. This was a gem find and so much of the old flour mill machinery was left intact.
Some of us had dinner at the Dufur Valley Tavern for some hometown grub.
After refreshments some folks couldn’t help themselves and Congo danced around the restaurant!
A group tour at The National Neon Sign Museum
Balch Hotel served us music and dinner on the patio.
We have so many questions…………….
Concourse de Maryhill Car Show Event
All that car show fun worked up a thirst so Maryhill Winery was next on the list.
Audrey did another fine tour and we left with great memories and new friends.

HDR met at Mike and Kathy's very nicely decorated shop in Redmond.
We took off for our great destination ---the "Balch Historic Hotel" in Dufur Oregon. Built in 1907, the Hotel was decorated in splendid turn of the century fixtures and furniture!
After checking in, our group of beautiful classic cars headed for The Dalles. A great lunch followed at the Bargeway Brewery with a nice view of the Columbia River. Our next stop was to visit the National Neon Sign Museum. Wow what an experience it was!!
The curator was a walking wealth of knowledge regarding anything artistic that has taken place in The Dalles in the last two centuries!
We were first escorted to view a few of the newest building signs painted last year. The talent shown in these murals takes your breath away!
Back at the Neon Sign Museum, a person can not only learn how neon signs are created but can also see where they all started centuries ago!
After returning to our hotel, a very nice dinner was enjoyed along with socializing with good company and friends.
Our second day started with a nutritious breakfast and early checkout.
The route we took towards Hood River through the beautiful countryside was amazing. We were very fortunate to be able to tour the incredible WAAAM Air Museum. It has a grand collection of classic, antique and military cars and airplanes. It has a little something for everyone. Lunch at the Full Sail Brewery was delightful.
Everyone enjoyed and appreciated the two days we had of great windy roads, tons of fun, nice accommodations and good comradery.
A huge big thanks to Mike and Kathy for all the work involved to make this a really fun drive!!!

Kendall held their annual Oktoberfest on September 28th and they really put on a great event complete with Oktoberfest tent.
Their were Frau’s, beer, Porsches, schnitzel, kraut, lederhosen, games, and lots of fun people.
The tent was full of German food, cupcakes, pretzels, beer!, and Prost!
What more could you ask? A Beer mug holding contest!
The beer mug holding contest. Linda Anzellotti has a blissful facial expression that defies explanation and Audrey Moore looks like she had too much sausage and schnitzel and is ready to explode!
On October 12th, HDR members had a first time experience "Tie Dying" their garment of choice. Hippies present were Linda Anzolletti, Pat Nielsen, Kelly Todd , Gretchen Kolb and Audrey Moore. With all the 1960’s influence of those days, they designed, tied, swirled, rubber banded, their shirts, pants, aprons into works of art. Everyone was skeptical of their artistic flairs, but Audrey promised they would turn out fabulous. And sure enough, those fine art days of the 60’s proved that great art never dies.
"Everyone had unique designs and colors, and with a lot of beginner's luck (as in my case), we all had items that any hippie would be proud of. Many thanks to Audrey for good guidance, hospitality, the event idea, and a very fun afternoon”

A small group of HDR friends meet up now and then for Taco Tuesday where we try out different Mexican restaurants. Ken Moore picked this restaurant for Taco Tuesday.
Chupacabra Restaurant
1155 SW Division, Bend
Chupacabra is located in the Scandia Square Center just south of Porsche Bend. The previous restaurant was taken over by a new owner, new name, and new menu.
We were greeted with home made chips and mild tasty salsa and they make their own fresh corn tortillas. The owner and staff were very friendly and eager to accommodate our hungry group.
The tacos were big and flavorful and our table was full of dishes of yummy food. We were all delighted with the authentic Mexican food and service.
We all agreed this was a great find and we will be back!

Deschutes County SkidCar Training is an all-weather driver enhancement program taught with the aid of the SKIDCAR System. The SKIDCARframework attaches to the suspension of a vehicle to allow the front and rear tires to be lifted or lowered independently with a controller. The system allows drivers to experience the inclement driving conditions that cause a vehicle to lose traction in a safe and controlled learning environment. The course costs $100.00 and is available through Deschutes County Risk Management and sponsored by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners.
Training includes one hour of classroom instruction followed by three hours of hands-on driving in the vehicle. The instructor will cover various techniques, including proper eye placement, acceleration, braking, steering, weight and energy management, as well as proper tire decisions and maintenance. Participants will learn the proper use of anti-lock braking systems and understand the differences between rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and four wheel drive systems, as well as Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Traction Control in modern vehicles. Participants will also learn about skid prevention, control and recovery.

Unless you know somebody who knows someone who knows that key guy you most likely have never set one foot in the nearly sacred place called The Shop. Bend, Oregon. A few of you have visited on occasion to work on your Porsche or just hang out or ask one of the very knowledgeable participants a question about your car, especially a 356 or early 911s. There are a smattering of blue oval The Shop. Bend, Oregon stickers floating around CO. A rare find if you can grab one!
I cannot give a location or the names of most of the unofficial members but I can try and relay what a special place we had for many years and observe Clint Eastwood’s advice: “make change your friend ” We will say goodby to The Shop as it was and welcome in a month or two the new iteration under the careful watch of a friend to all CO Porsche owners. Details soon.
The Shop is actually three spaces behind the front offices of a locally owned business. We have one very large room with a lift and rows of tool and product cabinets along with space for anywhere from 5 to 8 cars. Another smaller room (the ‘Porsche Room’) holds a similar number Porsches in various stages of operation. Both rooms have multiple tall garage doors, heated concrete floors, large sunlights and plenty of great vibe. The third room holds a dynamometer.
Once I was volunteered to test a recently rebuilt 1966 911on the dyno as driver. Have you ever done so? 130 mph in a room is not for the faint of heart. I stared at the wall 15 feet in front of me while receiving instructions on how fast to go and when to shift gears. I kept imagining the aftermath of being launched off the dyno at such a speed when the straps holding us in place let go Sitting next to me was D - casually observing data on an iPad D was very considerate when the testing was done to remind me as we exited the car not to step on the still spinning drums of the dyno If you want to see the possibilities of a dyno under less observant hands, check in with YouTube.
And Oh! the beautiful cars worked on by a small cadre of friends in The Shop. ’55 Pre-A 356. Multiple 60s era 911s. Mid-year 911s, one 914. 80s 911s. Beautiful colors. Engines broken down and rebuilt. Suspensions corrected, wheels changed out, deep cleaning, paint removal (by hand) and every other possibility competent humans can do to Porsche cars. Removing and replacing early 911 windshields remains a most enjoyable and frustrating activity and best done with at least three good natured friends.
Two standing outside the car bracing the windshield while one pushes outward on the glass with either feet (!) or hands to remove. What could go wrong I ask? The real fun is installing a new windshield and gasket with the same number of close friends. I emphasize the word ‘close’ as any other setup could result in murder of at least one. Yelling is mandatory on the 9th or 10th try getting a windshield to hold in place. And sweet relief when it does.
So the aforementioned Brad Cruikshank, the only named (besides your correspondent) party to The Shop was one of the most interesting people I have met. A former Marine. Raw cow’s milk drinker. Prineville native. Seasonal fire lookout. Cancer battler. Good-natured lad. Go-cart champ. Devoted son. A man with broad interests-just before he passed away at 49, Brad was prepping a stand-up comedy routine for local senior citizen centers. He was The Shop’s jack of all trades and was happy to jump in whenever he could be of assistance.
He drove a BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle and it was always a welcoming sound, especially in summer with all of the garage doors open, to hear Brad pull up. Deeply in love with Tiffany and planning to marry, Brad passed away after suffering a seizure. All of us at The Shop were devastated by his early passing. The Marine Corps Funeral Honors at Brad’s service was incredibly touching
And at The Shop things moved forward post Brad. Old Porsches were purchased, brought in for a thorough inspection and course of action decided upon. Currently there are two magnificat Porsches awaiting attention. With the coming change, the current “Porsche room” will take on more cars to make room for the incoming business in the larger and dyno rooms. The Shop will be reduced in size but I am guessing (and hope) the same love and dedication to these grand cars will continue in a slightly changed manner. Think ‘Clint.’
I suspect there are many versions of The Shop out there where friends and family gather, work on beautiful cars and in general make the most of time together. Enjoy! I for one am very fortunate to know someone who knew someone who is good friends with that guy.
