You will notice a change for 2025, the monthly get togethers will be held at restaurants, picnic areas, food trucks, and some will be sponsored by our local advertisers.
The survey done last year shows this is what our membership wants and the HDR Board listened and took action.
There will be no registration or fee for these drives and no directions will be handed out for the drives. We will have separate arrive drives for Porsche SUV owners and separate Saturday Arrive and Drive events. We will also have separate Classic Car Group Arrive and Drives for air cooled and early transaxle Porsches.
There will be several requirements from the participants to make these group drives fun and successful and we are asking for your help to keep these events enjoyable. We will be starting our drives from locations outside Bend and they will be different for each monthly drive
Arrive and Drive Rules:
All of the Arrive and Drive events are group drives and will be two to three hours in length on the beautiful roads of Central Oregon.
(1) Since these are group drives and we will be obeying all safety and speed laws all participants are expected to stay together as a group, this includes drive leaders and drive sweeps.
(2) This is not a race and there will be no passing of other cars in our group.
(3) The participants are required to keep the car behind them in sight and also to keep the pace of the car in front The drivers will be required to wait for the car behind them at intersections and corners to insure we stay together as a group The lead cars will slow or pull over to wait for the cars to remain together and keep everyone in sight so we can continue as a group.
(4) There is no rubber banding allowed and if you want to drive faster or slower than the group please remember this is a group drive and you will be asked to maintain the group pace.
(5) If you are not comfortable with these rules then please don't keep the other participants from enjoying the drives we have planned.
2021 Miami Blue 718 Cayman GT4
Submitted by Ralph Anzellotti
It all started when Josh lived in Whitefish, Montana, when he and Sarah drove the 2014 Cayman for service at the Porsche dealership n Spokane, Washington, when they arrived, there was his dream Porsche at the dealership, a Miami Blue 718 Cayman GT4. It was love at first sight. After a test drive he was sold, though did not know the price!
Josh had already been on the Porsche web site building and configuring his dream car but never went any further. D O W N S H I F T F E A T U R E D A R T I
Josh and Sarah were gifted a Big Sky Region PCA membership in 2019. The President of the region lived a mile away from their home in Whitefish. They enjoyed several drives with the club each year.
Josh spoke highly of the smooth gear shift and clutch, it was so easy and responsive. The suspension and handling met his every expectation.
Josh had goosebumps when talking about the carbon fiber seats. The seats gave the driver a sixth sense and feel of the suspension and how the tires were hugging the road.
The cayman trunk and frunk. The engine is somewhere in between?
The Miami blue color from Porsche was, quite accurately, named after the light but deep blue that is associated with Miami. Whether it’s the Miami surf, the Miami Dolphins, or the pastel-colored houses that fill Dade county Porsche has really hit the nail on the head here.
It is well established that the Miami blue color from Porsche is one of the best steps Porsche has taken to modernize their brand and move away from the classics that are silver, yellow, and black. The Miami blue color is designed to make the commute less boring, the track day more thrilling, and to turn the head of everyone you pull up alongside at the traffic lights, and it does so wonderfully.
Josh and Sarah moved to Terrebonne last year and joined HDRPCA in October. They are very interested in participating in HDR drives, tours, and social gatherings. Make sure to give them a warm HDR welcome!
Josh has already put his dream Porsche in hibernation for the winter. We all look forward to the Spring driving season when the roar our dream cars becomes a reality.
“It’s not just the cars…….it’s the people”
PCA will celebrate its 70th Anniversary on September 13, 2025
The January dinner meeting was well attended as we brought in the new year and a full schedule of social and driving events for 2025.
Gretchen Kolb has announced that she is stepping down as activities director and we look forward to her new role with HDR. We also wish to thank Jerry Kolb for all his assistance and support he has given to Gretchen and HDR over many years.
Porsche, known for its commitment to electrification, is making a surprising shift in its strategy. The German sports car manufacturer is now considering adding internal combustion engine (ICE) options to models originally designed as electric vehicles.
This change comes in response to slower-than-expected sales of the all-electric Taycan and a persistent demand for traditional powertrains among luxury car buyers. Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke noted,
“A lot of customers in the premium and luxury segment are looking in the direction of combustion-engined cars.”
The company faces significant technical challenges in adapting EV platforms for ICE powertrains, particularly for models like the upcoming electric 718 Boxster and Cayman. However, Porsche emphasizes its production flexibility, which makes it capable of manufacturing combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles on the same line.
This strategic pivot reflects broader industry challenges in transitioning to electric vehicles while meeting diverse customer preferences. Porsche’s ability to balance innovation with tradition will be crucial as it navigates this complex automotive landscape.
Hydrogen cars are revolutionary because they provide zero-emissions travel, making them an excellent alternative to traditional vehicles. Refueling is quick and efficient, similar to gasoline cars.
Deschutes County SkidCar Training is an all-weather driver enhancement program taught with the aid of the SKIDCAR System. The SKIDCARframework attaches to the suspension of a vehicle to allow the front and rear tires to be lifted or lowered independently with a controller. The system allows drivers to experience the inclement driving conditions that cause a vehicle to lose traction in a safe and controlled learning environment. The course costs $100.00 and is available through Deschutes County Risk Management and sponsored by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners.
Training includes one hour of classroom instruction followed by three hours of hands-on driving in the vehicle. The instructor will cover various techniques, including proper eye placement, acceleration, braking, steering, weight and energy management, as well as proper tire decisions and maintenance. Participants will learn the proper use of anti-lock braking systems and understand the differences between rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and four wheel drive systems, as well as Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Traction Control in modern vehicles. Participants will also learn about skid prevention, control and recovery.

Each month we will look back at the history of Porsche Panorama Magazine and feature an issue and interesting article. These historical issues are all on line for PCA members.
This is the very first Panorama Magazine from December 1955. It was printed in black and white and was a whopping 12 pages long, just a few pages are reprinted to show content.
Keep in mind in 1955 this was high tech and so were the Porsche cars. The Panorama editorial staff numbered 12 people.

Stay tuned for next month’s look back in history with Porsche Panorama. Magazine.
