Fred Nielsen President, High Desert Region PCA
president@highdesertpca.org

On December 31, 2025, the two-year term for the Club's current board members ends. It has been a fast two years and the Club has had a lot of events and fun activities, almost 50 each year.
I have enjoyed the two years I have served on the board and thank the dedicated board members who have served with me and make those events possible for Club members to enjoy. I also want to thank all Club members for their friendship, support, and energy during my two-year term.
Come January 1, 2026, we will have four new officers directing the Club activities. They will bring a different approach to the Club and new ideas which will further grow and enhance our Club. I ask all members to give the new officers the same support you gave me and our current board.
The High Desert Region is an outstanding Region made up of very positive, enthusiastic, and happy members, and we want to keep it that way and continue to grow and develop our Club. It has been my pleasure to serve as the Club's president for the past two years and I look forward to many more years enjoying participation in Club activities with my many Club friends.
Fred

Picture from about 1986 with me on my dad's '65 356C in El Paso, where I grew up.
Introducing Joe Lawrence HDR-PCA member with a very interesting past with German cars and Porsche, on the corporate level.
The first car I remember was my father’s early 70s Gemini Blue 911T. That started a lifelong love of cars, especially German cars, Porsches most of all. My dad later sold the 911T and several years later, when I urchased a red ’65 356C coupe. I was fortunate to drive that car around my hometown of El Paso

By then I was a full-blown car enthusiast with a of Car & Driver, Road & Track, and Automobile eligiously read cover to cover every month.
ined pretty quickly that I wanted to work in the ss. After graduating in 1990, I sold cars at a a Fe which had the Audi, BMW, and Porsche others. Shortly thereafter, I was hired by a Nissan office in Dallas, where I eventually became a b that was a natural for me. This led to a similar job merica in Atlanta and, later, to the 3 Series Product r New Jersey headquarters. My wife Patti and I took 000, moving to Munich, where I was a product and orth America.
all born in Munich before we moved back to the on to Toronto, where I ran marketing and then adian subsidiary.
a call from a headhunter about a role as President ’s fledgling Canadian subsidiary. This was certainly my lifetime and of course I took it. Next thing you white 997.2 Carrera as a company car and Patti is chool in an E1.II Cayenne. In Canada, together with hed the Carrera Cup Canada and the Camp4 winter driving experience. A favorite marketing campaign from that era was “Never Hibernate,” a call to Porsche owners to equip their 2-door sports cars with winter tires and drive them year round.
My last company car there was probably my favorite ever one of the very last 911 Turbos (997.2) ever produced with a manual transmission. And, yes, I drove it though the winter, even taking my kids to hockey practice and ski races in it from time to time.
In 2013, I moved to Atlanta to become Executive Vice President and COO of Porsche Cars North America. In this role, I was responsible for, in short, sales and the dealer network in the US. It was a good time to be at Porsche with an expanding model line and generally fantastic demand for our products. In my 11 years in the role, sales increased from around 35,000 to over 75,000.

ally increased the level of customer service hips to the number one level among all pects of this role included numerous trips to he Weissach R&D center, to Le Mans races, es, and to various dealer grand openings, ne here in Bend back in 2017.
highlight of my career at Porsche was the drive the 918 Spyder on three different eipzig, Circuit of the Americas, and Another was the “Classic Run,” a week-long drive from Monterey to Atlanta following union 2018. Six PCNA friends and I s tour, each of us in a personally owned . (Mine was and still is an Amazon green ‘93

Cross-country “Classic Run” six PCNA colleagues of mine and I completed in 2018 from Rennsport Reunion in Monterey back to Atlanta over a week or so.

My father’s spec-ordered Carmine Red Cayman

Various pics of my 968 on Amazon Green. It’s a ‘93 with 86k miles. I bought it about eight years ago in Atlanta as mentioned. I stored it at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, where it was usually on display on the Heritage Gallery. I had it worked on and maintained at the Porsche Classic Restoration Center at PCNA HQ in Atlanta. It is religiously stock.

While I love cars and especially Porsches, I also love the outdoors skiing and biking and hiking in particular. Bend is, of course, the perfect outdoors town, so I retired from Porsche last summer to pursue the dream (selling my beloved ’21 Spyder was, alas, a necessary consequence). Today, when I’m not in my 968 or riding my mountain bike at Phil’s or traveling to visit my kids, I might be doing a bit of consulting work or studying for my master’s degree in geography. Oh, and I may be on the hunt for a good C4S…

ShopLight by Andy Burke
‘Word of mouth’ is a good thing for small businesses, especially if the business mentioned does exceptional work. Thus when three people I respect mentioned Eric Dinkel and the magic he can perform on metal, I was intrigued. I have tried to use the services provided by many of the shops featured in ‘Shoplight,’ so fortunately (or unfortunately for me) I gave Eric a shout recently to take a look at a dent on the upper passenger rear fender of my 1986 Carrera. How I got the dime sized dent I will never know but it bugged me.

As a young man, Eric took an intensive 6-month course in dent repair. This very specialized discipline may have started in the Mercedes factory but in the 1980s specialists in dent repair were practicing in California in some sort of secretive, in the back room arrangement with car dealers and body shops.
You can loosely define dent repair as repairing damaged metal with little or no paint breakage. Think hail storm damage or door ding. In fact, early on in his career, hail damage at the Mercedes factory took Eric to Germany for a 9month stint after a massive storm damaged both customer and lot vehicles. Following the time in Germany, Eric worked in other European countries, Canada, Australia and of course here in the US at hail hot spots such as the Midwest. Eric states Denver, CO is the worst in the US for hail storms and resulting damage.
During his many trips to Australia, Eric would work 6-7 days straight before taking a few days to surf, golf or fish. In 2019 he opened his one man shop in Bend and now is kept quite busy working with local car dealers, body shops and individuals.
As mentioned above, my P-car had a dent. Eric has the expertise and it was pretty cool to watch him slowly get that ugly dent out. With a low temp heat gun aimed at the offending area, he used a long handmade tool up under the fender working back and forth until the metal was back to the same shape those German artisans had hand pounded 40 years ago. While Eric was massaging the metal I stood a few feet behind him watching the dent assume almost a fluid consistency before firming up. It was pretty incredible. I was curious about the level of heat applied to the painted surface and it is surprisingly low. There is a fine line where the paint could be damaged by the heat so Eric is constantly monitoring the surface temp.
Think of the numerous types of metals used on cars. Our beloved marque has, in Eric’s opinion “stubborn” metal, esp. the steel of my 911’s generation. Stubborn metal is good metal. He finds the aluminum of certain body panels and models quite strong as well and is surprised when there is a dent. We are fortunate here in CO to have few hail storms but last summer, as you may remember, there was significant damage done by a freak hail storm. Eric was swamped and of this writing still has dealer cars waiting for his magic touch.

Eric’s shop is super clean and organized, shop traits I tend to favor. Although he still offers mobil service, best bet is to contact him, set up a look/see appointment at his shop so he can provide a quick estimate for insurance claim or direct billing. I was very satisfied with the work Eric did on my car and recommend him with a high level of assurance you will be happy as well with the results.

Deschutes County SkidCar Training is an all-weather driver enhancement program taught with the aid of the SKIDCAR System. The SKIDCARframework attaches to the suspension of a vehicle to allow the front and rear tires to be lifted or lowered independently with a controller. The system allows drivers to experience the inclement driving conditions that cause a vehicle to lose traction in a safe and controlled learning environment. The course costs $100.00 and is available through Deschutes County Risk Management and sponsored by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners.
Training includes one hour of classroom instruction followed by three hours of hands-on driving in the vehicle. The instructor will cover various techniques, including proper eye placement, acceleration, braking, steering, weight and energy management, as well as proper tire decisions and maintenance. Participants will learn the proper use of anti-lock braking systems and understand the differences between rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and four wheel drive systems, as well as Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Traction Control in modern vehicles. Participants will also learn about skid prevention, control and recovery.

Harveys Original Women's Seatbelt Bag - Asking $100.
I bought this bag at the 2014 Porsche Parade in Monterey CA. It was a gift for my wife that cost $278 but it was not her style. It has never been used, and has been tucked away in a dresser drawer all this time. It is in excellent new condition.
This would be a great (Christmas?) gift for the woman who loves cars and expresses that in her handbags and attire. It is 17"x11"x8" and has a magnetically closed top, with 3 internal open pockets, 1 large and 2 smaller ones, and an internal zippered pocket. Call or text me on my mobile phone at 541848-3225. Black 10 Spoke Porsche Wheels with Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 studless snow tires complete with Porsche center caps and tire pressure monitoring system, purchased new 11/2022. These are very lightly used, almost brand new 265/50-19 tires (see photos). The wheels have no curb rash. They had briefly been on a 2016 Cayenne but will likely fit other Cayenne models and would also work on a Macan however that does not provide a staggered setup and would require a rear spacer. They likely will not fit on turbo models due to the size of the front brake caliper. I do not know if they will fit on a Panamera. These are 5 lug bolt 19" wheels with the following offset specs: 8.5J x 19H2 ET59. Also included are low profile fitted cable chains. Delivery of this set of 4 rims with tires, mounting and balancing, TPS and center caps would be around $5K new; asking $2,500.

$800 for 4 Michelin X-ICE Snow Tires 20" (For front narrow/rear wide staggered Porsche SUVs)
These Michelin X-ICE Snow SUV tires are basically brand new, with approximately 600 miles of winter driving on them. These tires cost about $1,700 for the set from Kendall. ($350 ea. for the fronts and $475 ea. for the rear tires) We just need to sell them to someone who can use them, and to get them out of our garage. They do not fit our new SUV. Tires were always stored in a warm space.
All 4 tires fit 20" rims:
2 tires are 265/45 R 20 for the front
2 tires are 295/40 R 20 for the rear
Tires are for Porsche Macan and Cayenne SUVs with wider tires on the back than the front, with Staggered 20" rim set-up (Also fits with SUV's by BMW, AMG, Lambo, and Mustang Mach-E)
