PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Fred Nielsen, President, High Desert Region PCA
president@highdesertpca.org
July has been a very busy month for HDR with our largest activity being the Car Show in conjunction with the Soap Box Derby. I think it was important for our club to show our support to Kendall Porsche of Bend for all they do for our club and HDR came through with flying colors. In spite of very hot weather, we had a great showing at the Car Show with many Porsches and most models represented from 356s to the latest cars. A big thank you for your participation and a special thanks to the many volunteers.
Probably our largest event of the year is our annual picnic introducing new members of the club. Even though this is a New Members Picnic, it is an event for all club members. It was originally scheduled for August 3, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it was necessary to postpone it to September 7.
This event will still be at Tracy Stout's beautiful Wildwood Ranch and will be a potluck meal with the club furnishing all the main meat dishes at no cost to the members other than bringing a side dish, appetizer, salad, or dessert, and beverage of choice. . New members are not expected to bring anything other than themselves and, of course, their Porsches.
This event offers an opportunity for existing club members to meet the new members and for us to introduce new members to the many benefits of PCA membership. Hopefully, both new and old members will put this event on their calendars and plan to attend.

The High Desert Region Register and Drive is changing for 2024 to Arrive and Drive. There will be no registration or fee for these drives and no directions will be handed out for the drives. We will have separate arrive drives for Porsche SUV owners and separate Saturday Arrive and Drive events. We will also have separate Classic Car Group Arrive and Drives for air cooled and early transaxle Porsches.
There will be several requirements from the participants to make these group drives fun and successful and we are asking for your help to keep these events enjoyable We will be starting our drives from locations outside Bend and they will be different for each monthly drive
Arrive and Drive Rules:
All of the Arrive and Drive events are group drives and will be two to three hours in length on the beautiful roads of Central Oregon.
(1) Since these are group drives and we will be obeying all safety and speed laws all participants are expected to stay together as a group, this includes drive leaders and drive sweeps.
(2) This is not a race and there will be no passing of other cars in our group.
(3) The participants are required to keep the car behind them in sight and also to keep the pace of the car in front The drivers will be required to wait for the car behind them at intersections and corners to insure we stay together as a group. The lead cars will slow or pull over to wait for the cars to remain together and keep everyone in sight so we can continue as a group.
(4) There is no rubber banding allowed and if you want to drive faster or slower than the group please remember this is a group drive and you will be asked to maintain the group pace.
(5) If you are not comfortable with these rules then please don't keep the other participants from enjoying the drives we have planned.

Singer Classic
Eric Peterson and his prized Singer Classic
Photography@pixelnickphotopraphy
Eric’s Singer Classic is a stunning resistance blue color, it is car number 26 of 450 cars to be reimagined. Over 300 of this model have been reimagined and is currently sold out.
Eric bought the car in August 2023, he is the third owner.
Started as a 1991 donor Porsche and was built in 2015. Air cooled engine is 3.8, 365 hp, 6 speed manual, performance like a GT3. This Singer is capable of over 200mph.
The leather interior is amazing, every detail of the car is simplistic craftsmanship. Electric windows is a nice touch.
Car is finished in carbon fiber except steel doors.
Singer Vehicle Design is an American company that specializes in restoring and modifying Porsche 911s. It was founded by Rob Dickinson in 2009, who is also known as former frontman and guitarist of the English rock band Catherine Wheel. The company is based in Los Angeles, California.
The name Singer Vehicle Design pays homage to Porsche engineer Norbert Singer as well as acknowledging Dickinson's previous career as a vocalist.
The company's main product is a "re-imagined" 911, which is a heavily modified coupe or targa Porsche 964. Singer's most well-known and sole model for 9 years, was originally simply known as the "Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer". After the introduction of other models, it began to be referred to as the "Classic Study" model.
Much of the bodywork is replaced with carbon fiber body panels and the engine is reworked by engine manufacturers such as Cosworth, Ed Pink Racing Engines and Williams to produce significantly more power. The long hood of the Porsche 911 classic replaces the shorter hood of the Porsche 964. Relocated fuel filler and oil filler caps are a nod to historic Porsche race cars, and many of the components are bespoke and/or motorsports-grade. The tachometer is often colored in Singer Orange and displays values up to 11, a reference to the up to 11 meme (though engine redline is 7,900 RPM).
Singer Group, Inc. (Singer) restores and reimagines 1989 to 1994 Porsche 911s, based on the 964 chassis at the direction of its clients. Singer is not sponsored, associated, approved, endorsed nor, in any way, affiliated with Porsche Cars North America, Inc.,
Pull the leather strap latch to open car door
Editor’s notes.
Eric took me for a ride in his Singer Classic, due the light weight of the car and the racing engine, the acceleration was explosive, the tuned suspension made the car take curves with ease.
After a few bursts of what the Singer can do, I told Eric he did not need to impress me anymore!

Cowboy Dinner Tree Tour

Notations and photos by Ralph Anzellotti
Cowboy Dinner Tree offers a Restaurant, Cabins, and Gift Shop on a homestead in Central Oregon’s Outback. Located in Silver Lake, Oregon about a 90-minute drive from Bend.
Years and years ago there was an old shack under a Juniper tree, which is now the home to Cowboy Dinner Tree. Back then, ranchers from Paisley, Summer Lake, and Silver Lake pushed their cattle through Sycan Trail en route to the lush meadows of the Sycan Marsh. By the time the Cowboys had moved the cattle from the Silver Lake bed to the Dinner Tree, it was considered the halfway point, and they were hungry! There, the chuck wagon was waiting to serve up some buckaroo beans and biscuits.
Today after all these years, the Cowboy Dinner Tree still serves up the beans and bread, along with a slab of beef that most cowboys would only dream of on the trail!

Thanks for your efforts to create a terrific event! I had fun sitting with new people I had never met. And the drive was awesome to a place I had heard about but never gone. I really fun outing. Plus I got to know Ken a little more. Cheers. Scott Stoery
All good things must end - until we saddle up again next year.
Bavarian Adventure
July 9th to July 12th
Tourmiesters Rob and Penny Byrd
On July 9, despite the projected heat wave, 13 hearty Porsche enthusiasts left Bend on an adventure to the Northern Cascades of Washington We started with an exciting Asian Fusion lunch at the amazing EZ TIGER in Yakima, WA
Our drive through Washington took us over the valleys and into the hovering trees. After a brief stop for a coffee break at The Rock coffee stop, we checked into our rooms at the Bavarian Lodge in Leavenworth. Leavenworth is a charming Bavarian town nestled between the steep mountain peaks, and surrounded by roaring rivers. As temperatures crept up to 109 degrees, jumping into those waters were tempting.
A leisurely second day offered the group time to explore the natural beauty of the area, shop the many boutiques, and enjoy lunch in the many restaurants. Most popular were local German fare, of course Bratwurst, accompanied by a favorite chilled beverage, and the misters for a brief relief from the heat.
We left Leavenworth for Wenatchee with a stop on the way at the picturesque Casmere,, an iconic small town reminiscent of the 1950s. There we toured the Liberty Candy Company Aplets and Cotlets Store. The Aplets and Cotlets Company was founded by a pair of Armenian men that immigrated to Washington over 100 years ago They wanted to replicate the candy they missed from their native homeland It was family owned from 1920 until 2022
After checking in to our Wenatchee (Apple Capital of the World) lodging we enjoyed a very special dinner at Chateau Faire de Ponte, one of Washington’s premier wineries. By now we all had developed a special comradely There was lots of sharing Porsche stories.
Early the next morning we followed the Columbia River among the numerous orchards to beautiful Lake Chelan, and into the northern Cascades to the rustic western mountain town of Winthtrop. After leisurely lunch, many searched for ice cream or cold beverages and shade to escape the blistering heat. Leaving Winthrop, we drove through small Washington towns like Twisp and Methow, along rivers, and into the splendor of the mountain scenery.
For our last dinner together, we enjoyed a Barbecue at Chelan’s original and oldest winery, Lake Chelan Winery and Barbecue. Again the fans and misters became our “best friends”. After three days together we said farewell to our new friends, with bitter sweet feelings, and promises to see each other at future Porsche events and around Central Oregon.

HDR PCA New Logo Development
Our High Desert Region will reach its 25th anniversary in 2025. It’s a perfect time to celebrate that by refreshing our region’s logo through a redesign that will look compatible with the PCA National logo with which it will commonly be seen and will provide for easy replication across various media such as the new website, name badges, stickers, business cards/printed materials, hats/clothing, grille badges, woven patches, etc.
The HDR Board wants to make sure members are included in this process, so we need two groups of volunteers. The first group of volunteers develops candidates for the new logo, either individually or in teams, however they choose. A different group of volunteers reviews and validates the logo candidates to determine that the submissions meet these criteria developed last year: The voting process will include keeping our current logo and NO change to the existing HDR logo.
• Understated and elegant, not too complicated, and approachable
• Includes design elements that:
• communicate we are a car club
• reflect our regions uniqueness’s (landscape, culture, etc.)
• capture the spirit of the HDRPCA club and its members
• Provides clear identity information – communicates the name of the club and PCA
• Honors the spirit and heritage of the Porsche brand
Once we have a set of logo candidates developed and validated (expected to be around the end of August) members will vote and if the club selects a new logo it will be in time to adopt its use by the beginning of 2025.
If you’d like to develop a candidate for the new logo, you are welcome to get started and plan on submitting your logo candidate or candidates around mid-August. If you’d like to be part of the second group, to validate the submissions against the criteria mentioned above, please let Fred Nielsen know by the end of June.
