Beyond the Sea

Beyond the Sea is a concept that blends traditional Balinese architecture with modern ideas in an effort to address the problem of boosting Bali's economy as a member of Indonesia's maritime country and to introduce Balinese culture specifically in Nusa Penida.

It is essential for visitors to have a spot to stay at the Banjar Nyuh Harbor Pier while they wait for the ship to head back to the main island of the gods. It is intended that by fusing elements of traditional Balinese architecture, such as the use of ornamentation and construction materials, with modern ideas frequently found on the market, travelers would become more familiar with the region and learn about its culture.

Brief

Known for its tourist activities such as beaches, scubadiving, Nusa Pedina rely heavy on its one of a kind marine life environment. Dock at the The Banjar Nyuh Harbor Pier, travelers utilize ships as maritime transportation to leave Bali for the island of Nusa Penida. The pier is not, however, utilized to its full potential. When activities are implemented on the pier, it may serve as more than just a waiting space and draw tourists. The development of human resources has a favorable influence on the environment, the welfare of the surrounding community, and the ability of architects to adapt to the marine setting. Through architecture, it is expected that there will be innovation as an answer or solution problems in the form of infrastructure so as to create buildings and facilities that can assist local maritime development.

Concepts

Selection of typical elements of Balinese architecture, such as materials and carvings, is carried into the design. The materials such as reeds, bedeg bamboo, red brick and coconut wood. Balinese carvings that are located on the walls and columns can provide an experience for tourists who come.

Contemporary elements in the form of space programs with technology that will be integrated into the design. The combination of these two concepts aims to give a familiar impression, especially to local and foreign tourists and also provide an in-depth experience of Balinese architecture and provide a sense of home for the surrounding community. Activities inside Beyond the Sea will be divided into 3 areas by floors, underwater bar, cooking and dining area of the restaurant on the 1st floor and souvenir booths on the 2nd floor. This aims to provide comfort to tourists and facilitate access to tourist and community activities.
