01 Introduction to the Studio : The studio focuses on ‘design’ role of ornamentation in the interior realm. The studio will investigate the definitions, notions, and theories of luxury and its influence on the design process. To Evaluate the necessary approaches of making and construction, that can be studied with the idea of ornamentation and its related processes. To utilize ornamentation in the given syntaxes such as materiality and construction of elements, functional and structural attributes of a system, form, and material, etc. for the various spatial interventions in interior space. Derive the relationship between ornamentation and function - construction aesthetics of interior design practices = ornamented articulation in interior realm.

Enveloping the light Center of Digital design IDEA Idea is to create space using simple material like meshes and fabric in relation to the tower of shadows, which is the material of both light and shadow, plane and texture and when light fall, the inherent pattern of fabric or mesh the layer shadow or light become new ornamentation. PROGRAM BRIEF The idea is to capture this contrast by interpreting the site as a center of digital design for the young generation of digital field, and also the digital production area where models, prototypes, final products and processes will be produced by the enthusiasts.

Tower of shadows is a remarkable built structure by Corbusier This modern architecture is an example of contrast of mass and void, light and dark and traditional and contemporary the building tracing the path of the sun using shadow cast on both inside and outside of the tower. This majestic structure is situated between the parliament building and the palace of justice and is precisely aligned on the north-south axis to interrupt the symmetry of the capitol complex huge central square. Tower’s north side is completely open, while the other three sides feature vertical cross walls set at various slants and horizontal wing walls of different depths.

1.2 Exercise Brief: A site, measuring 10m x 6m x 7.5m was given for designing the shop. Constraints such as making 50% of the floor area as mezzanine, usage of staircase, bridge and 5 facades were also introduced along with other functional spatial requirements such as displays, space dividers, reception table etc. With these requirements, a Ornamented shop and lounge to designed. Scaling, contextualizing representing through small specific program and site relationship is attempted as spatial meaning or ornamentation to understand the aesthetic meaning of ornamentation. 05 Introduction to the Studio : A traveler to a place becomes an explorer of time, space and culture. Such travelers during the pause seek a warm abode which allows one to transform, celebrate and sink in the city sooner, lending possibilities to explore and connect to the place vividly. The focus of this unit is to design interiors of a shelter for a group of travel enthusiasts, embedded into the urban treasure house of memory and sensation. One will rethink the idea of ‘shelter’ to diversify and dignify interior experiences of daily activities performed. The design must provide both pragmatic and importantly a sensorial experience distilling the characteristics of the site for an appropriate spatial narrative. As part of pedagogic method, a tool box shall be derived with relevant materials and elements. The studio enables to conceptualize and evolve grammar of interior space manifested through nature of materials while integrating order of activities.

BREATH Unfolding an Envelope IDEA Unfolding An Envelope is a Traveler’s home which is in Goa, Vagator beach on the edge of cliff. The space was designed taking inspiration from Goan Veranda’s.
The abilities of veranda was translated into the spaces, adaptive spaces with wide panoramic view of the ocean and the beach. Celebrating the Veranda space through minimizing the walls. The space has been designed integrating flexibility, framing outside through semi-open and creating fragile shelter using metal and wood.

06 Introduction to the Studio : Today as creators, we find ourselves amid a new paradigm shift of the 4th industrial revolution - where our physical and digital worlds are completely blended together. The background concern of this studio unit was to bridge the gap between abstract drawing board ideas and making techniques - both in the way; how ideas can be embodied in materials and making processes and how thinking through materials and making processes can tease out ideas. This revolutionary digitized transformation has changed how we design things, how we make things, who makes these things, and the very nature of what we make. Design no more exists passively on the drawing board as an amalgamation of abstract ideas and functionalities, but it actively addresses issues related to material optimization, making techniques, etc. at an ideation level. Academically to find some precision in such process, instead of working on abstract concepts, an analogical method was introduced to students wherein, each one of them studied the given natural object – to extract underlying logics of function, form, structure, growth, etc. These logics were further employed to create modular or transformable elements for definite functions

OPTIMUM STOOL DESIGN Bending property of the bamboo. Optimum stool can be made by only using the basic property of the bamboo. The bamboo is in its size, lightness and strength an extreme product of nature. It is stable and because of its cavities an extreme light and elastic building material. The reinforcement by diaphragms and its physical conditions cause its enormous superiority compared to other building materials. Paper can take compression if appropriate type of weaving pattern is used. Thread became more stronger when it comes together and becomes a rope, having more strength.
