Together they relish in a deep

appreciation for the simple yet exquisite pleasures that life has to offer. Building bonds and traditions on Family Day

fficially observed on the third Monday of February, Family Day was introduced to give people across Canada a mid-winter escape, but its significance runs much deeper than just a day off work or school. It’s a holiday that reminds Canadians of what truly matters: family, connection, and the simple joys of being together. While some might head outdoors to embrace the snow, others use this time for a more intimate celebration at home. For many, Family Day is about creating space for meaningful conversations, laughter, and memories that go beyond the hustle of daily life. It’s a chance to hit “pause” on the demands of work and school and focus on what unites families: love, care, and shared experiences.

A shared escape from the everyday Family Day serves as a muchneeded reprieve from the grind.

that invite people to experience something new, all while spending quality time with loved ones. These moments foster learning and bonding simultaneously, turning an ordinary holiday into an extraordinary one.

Creating family traditions

For some, Family Day is a chance to create or solidify traditions. While the holiday may only be a decade or two old, many Canadians have already made it a cornerstone of their February calendar. Whether it’s an annual sledding adventure, a big family dinner, or just a day spent indoors crafting and baking together, Family Day encourages the creation of small rituals that can be passed down for generations. These traditions build family identity and offer something to look forward to each year.

or even tackling a jigsaw puzzle together. This “unplugged” approach is one of the key reasons why Family Day resonates with people across the country. It brings families back to the basics, allowing them to strengthen bonds without the constant distractions of modern life.

A national celebration of unity Despite being celebrated in different ways across the provinces, Family Day highlights a shared value that transcends geography: the importance of family. From large extended families gathering in homes to single parents enjoying quality time with their kids, the holiday serves as a reminder that no matter how different family dynamics may be, the love between family members remains a unifying force.

In the midst of a long Canadian winter, Family Day arrives like a breath of fresh air—an opportunity for Canadians to slow down, take a break from their busy routines, and cherish the bonds they share with loved ones.

In Canada’s colder regions, where winter months can feel endless, this holiday offers a mental reset. For parents balancing work, kids with school assignments, and the everpresent rush of modern life, Family Day becomes a moment to breathe easy. Whether that means taking a leisurely breakfast, a slow walk in the snow, or just hanging out at home in comfy clothes, the holiday provides space for families to enjoy each other without distractions.

In cities like Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, cultural activities and events provide more than just a distraction from the cold— they bring families together around shared experiences. Many museums, art galleries, and theaters offer special Family Day promotions or performances

From cooking up recipes handed down through generations to sharing personal stories around the dinner table, Family Day is a perfect excuse to celebrate the little things that make a family unique. It’s about passing down more than just a name— it’s about passing down love, values, and memories.

Family Day in the digital age

In today’s digital world, where screens often dominate daily interactions, Family Day serves as a timely reminder of the importance of being truly present with one another. It’s easy to get lost in emails, text messages, or social media, but Family Day invites Canadians to disconnect from the digital noise and focus on what matters most. For many families, this means putting away devices for the day and engaging in face-to-face activities—whether that’s board games, storytelling,

And while Family Day emphasizes the nuclear family, it also opens up space for those who may not have traditional family structures but form their own close-knit networks. In fact, many communities use the day to host events that bring people together, offering opportunities for individuals without family nearby to connect with others.

Reflecting on the heart of it all

In a world that often feels divided, Family Day stands as a small but powerful reminder of the universal need for connection and care. It gives Canadians a reason to pause, reflect, and remember that family— whether by blood or by bond—is an enduring source of strength. In a society that constantly pushes for productivity and achievement, this holiday offers a moment to appreciate the quieter, more meaningful parts of life: love, support, and time spent with those who matter most.

For Balraj and his partner, love is not just celebrated on Valentine’s Day—it’s woven into the fabric of their everyday life.

A Love Story to CheriSh

heir story, one that began in a small town in British Columbia, is a testament to the enduring power of respect, understanding, and shared values.

THow Did You Meet?

“Our paths crossed in Golden, a quaint town in the heart of BC, during a family engagement,” Balraj recalls.

“We were both in our teens, just starting to understand what it meant to form a real connection with someone.” What began as a casual meeting soon turned into a deep and lasting bond.

What Makes Your Relationship Special?

For Balraj, the secret to their enduring relationship lies in mutual respect and understanding.

“We’ve always respected each other’s values and opinions,” he says. “That’s the foundation of our relationship— being there for each other and supporting each other’s dreams.”

Favorite Memories Together

When asked about their favorite

moments, Balraj smiles and reflects on their years apart. “We spent four years in a long-distance relationship before getting married,” he shares. “Those years were challenging, but they made us stronger as a couple.

Becoming spouses and best friends, and eventually raising a family together, has been one of the most rewarding chapters of our lives.”

Celebrating Love Every Day

Valentine’s Day for this couple isn’t confined to just one day a year. “For us, every day is Valentine’s Day,” Balraj says with a grin. “We celebrate small victories and accomplishments throughout the year—whether it’s a personal achievement or a family milestone, every

day holds a reason to celebrate love.”

What Does Love Mean to You?

To Balraj, love is about more than just grand gestures. “Love is about respecting each other and making each other happy,” he explains. “It’s about the small, everyday acts of kindness that show you care.”

Tips for a Strong and Happy Relationship

When it comes to advice for others looking to maintain a healthy, longlasting relationship, Balraj has two key pieces of wisdom: “Be patient and openminded,” he says. “Relationships require compromise and understanding.

If you’re patient with each other and open to new ideas and perspectives, you can overcome any challenge together.”

For Balraj and his partner, their love story is a beautiful reminder that love isn’t just something to be celebrated on a specific day—it’s something to nurture and honor every single day.

heir journey together began in Fiji, where fate brought them together in an unexpected, yet unforgettable, way.

THow did you meet?

“I first met Raj in an unexpected yet memorable way,” Indra recalls.

“At the time, I was working at the Sheraton in Fiji, and his father was my employer.

Each morning, Raj’s father would kindly pick me up for work. I was still getting to know the team when Raj, who had been studying in Australia, returned home.

The first time we met was when his father drove me to work, and Raj happened to be in the car with him.”

It was a chance encounter that set the stage for what would become a lasting relationship. “It’s interesting how sometimes the most ordinary moments can turn into something significant,” Indra reflects.

What makes your relationship special?

The strength of Indra and Raj’s relationship lies in the trust and respect they’ve cultivated over the years. “Raj has been an incredible source of support,” Indra says.

“I truly value the strength of his commitment to me and to us.”

Beyond their mutual respect, they share a love for common hobbies and interests, which has helped create a deep, meaningful bond. “We genuinely enjoy each other’s company, whether we’re engaging in shared activities or simply sitting together in quiet moments. That ease and comfort we share is invaluable.”

Favorite memories together

For Indra, one of the most cherished memories is a simple ritual they had during their

workdays. “We would take our lunch breaks together, away from the hustle of the office. We often found ourselves sitting under a tree in the parking lot, just the two of us, enjoying a peaceful lunch. It became our time to connect, away from the distractions of the workplace.” These moments may seem small, but for Indra, they hold an irreplaceable place in her heart.

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

While many people go all out on Valentine’s Day, for Indra and Raj, it’s about simplicity and meaning. “We like to keep things intimate,” she shares. “Usually, it’s a quiet dinner, either at a favorite restaurant or at home, enjoying each other’s company.” However, one tradition that has remained constant throughout their 38 years of marriage is Raj’s thoughtful gesture of love. “Not a single Valentine’s Day has passed without Raj giving me a bouquet of red roses. It’s become a cherished tradition, a sweet reminder of his love and commitment.”

What does love mean to you?

For Raj and Indra, love is built on a foundation of trust, respect, and mutual support. “Love, to us, is about being there for each other through the good times and the challenging ones,” says Indra. “It’s about offering comfort, encouragement, and supporting each other’s dreams

and ambitions. It’s a connection that strengthens as life’s ups and downs unfold.”

Any tips for maintaining a strong and happy relationship?

Raj and Indra have learned a few key lessons over their decades together. “Trust each other, and always be open and honest,” Indra advises. “Humor is essential in a relationship. And most importantly, celebrate each other’s successes, while also providing encouragement and support through life’s challenges.”

For Raj and Indra, their story is a testament to how the quiet, everyday moments and a commitment to one another can build a love that endures for a lifetime.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a highly recommended therapy for people who are suffering from back pain and/or leg pain. This therapy focuses on stretching the spine to relieve pressure off the vertebrae.

Once the tension is released from the vertebrae, the discs that were either bulging or herniated can return to normal. Hence, the release of pressure eases the flow of water, oxygen, and nutrients to your discs, allowing them to heal faster.

Spinal traction stretches the spine in order to get rid of pressure from compressed discs. This will straighten the spine and ease the muscle pain. During the process, negative intradiscal pressure will be experienced that will pull the herniated disc material back into the disc and promote the passage of healing nutrients into the disc.

Indications include: 4Sciatica 4Herniated (degenerative disc disease)

4Bulging disc

4Diseased spinal nerve roots

4Muscle spasm at the neck and low back

At MJ Physio we own a robust decompression/traction table for spinal decompression therapy in Fleetwood, Surrey & Vancouver locations. The table is designed so that the decompression/ traction force to the desired point by adjusting the angle of pull maximizes the patient Spinal decompression treatment.

Director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man is a disappointing attempt to breathe new life into Universal’s horror legacy. While he found success with The Invisible Man, his latest project falls flat, lacking the visceral punch that made its 1941 predecessor a cult classic.

In this version, the story centers on Blake (Christopher Abbott), who, after resolving the mystery of his father’s sudden disappearance, heads to his childhood home with his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) in an attempt to repair their troubled relationship. However, their trip takes a dark turn when they’re attacked by a terrifying creature in the woods—one that Blake has a haunting history with. When one of them becomes infected during the escape, their secluded refuge becomes a deadly trap.

At its core, Wolf Man struggles with predictability. The film follows a familiar trajectory of a cursed individual grappling with monstrous transformation, a trope that feels far too played out. While the story draws clear parallels to its 1941 predecessor, it doesn’t manage to recapture the emotional depth or atmosphere of the original.

The film’s greatest strength is the performances of its lead

actors. Abbott and Garner’s nuanced portrayals of a couple trapped in a terrifying situation elevate what could have been a much more tedious experience. Their chemistry, particularly in the film’s more intense moments, adds weight to the story’s emotional stakes.

That said, the film falls short in delivering consistent scares. While the practical effects—relying on prosthetics and old-school gore—are a highlight, they don’t make up for the lack of suspense or tension. The choice to focus on body horror, rather than psychological terror, ultimately

Director: Leigh Whannell

Cast: Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, Sam Jaeger

Runtime: 103 minutes

weakens the film’s impact. A few moments of clever writing, such as the eerie POV shots of the infected, show potential, but they are often overshadowed by clichés and predictable plot beats, like the “cabin in the woods” scenario and the all-too-familiar child’s cry of “I wanna go home.”

While Wolf Man attempts to pay homage to its horror roots, it ultimately fails to offer anything fresh or compelling. Its reliance on formulaic tropes and lackluster scares means that, despite some solid performances and practical effects, it never truly sinks its teeth into the audience.

Over the course of this unforgettable season, 29 prestigious fashion houses unveiled their Spring-Summer 2025 collections, blending nostalgia with forward-thinking creativity and striking political commentary.

Paris Fashion Week 2025 delivered an extraordinary showcase of haute couture, where historical elegance met daring, cuttingedge innovation.

Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior took us on a journey through time, drawing inspiration from past centuries to create a collection that paid tribute to the elegance of Yves Saint Laurent’s 1950s designs. Set against the iconic Rodin Museum, Chiuri’s draped skirts, short crinolines, and trapeze dresses seamlessly intertwined vintage charm with modern sensibilities, offering a fresh take on timeless style.

At Schiaparelli, Daniel Roseberry’s

vision was equally historical but with a distinct vintage twist. Drawing inspiration from the opulence of the 1920s and 1930s, Roseberry’s collection featured beautifully crafted corsets and ribbon details, bringing the glamour of the past into the present. Kendall Jenner’s show-stopping ensemble epitomized the vintage-inspired grandeur that defined the collection.

Escapism was a theme explored in Zuhair Murad’s stunning collection, which envisioned a peaceful, idyllic tropical retreat, far removed from the chaos of the modern world. His ethereal gowns exuded serenity and beauty, offering a refreshing escape through luxurious fabrics and mesmerizing designs.

Meanwhile, Viktor & Rolf ventured into the future with a daring exploration of artificial intelligence. The duo’s collection featured 24 variations of the same dress, challenging the fashion world to think about the role of technology in the future of design. This bold move sparked discussions on how AI might shape the creative landscape of the fashion industry.

The week also saw notable shifts within the fashion world. Stella McCartney’s departure from the LVMH group was a significant moment, while Glenn Martens’ appointment as artistic director at Maison Margiela marked a new chapter for the brand.

Speculation surrounding Maria Grazia Chiuri’s future at Dior, with rumors of Jonathan Anderson from Loewe taking over, added further intrigue to the fashion scene.

Delta Stageworks brings

‘Heirlooms

& Baggage’ to North Delta and Salt Spring Island, celebrating women’s stories

Delta Stageworks, a rising force in the local arts scene, is bringing its acclaimed play Heirlooms & Baggage (My Mother’s Story) to new audiences in 2025. After its successful debut in South Delta in 2023, the production will be showcased at the North Delta Centre for the Performing Arts (NDCA) on February 12 and 13, 2025, before heading to ArtSpring

Theatre on Salt Spring Island.

The play celebrates the lives of five women—the mothers of the five diverse cast members— who share their personal stories on stage. “People are deeply moved by the show because it’s authentic and relatable,” says Peg Christopherson, the artistic lead of Delta Stageworks. “It’s about connecting with each other through the shared experience of our mothers’ diverse journeys.”

Supported by the Delta Community Foundation (DCF) through the Canada-wide Community Prosperity Fund, Heirlooms & Baggage explores the powerful relationships between mothers and their children. The production features actor-writers Camryn Chew, Renee Iaci, Ragini Kapil, Eric Keenleyside, and Christopherson, each of whom delves into their mother’s unique life story.

Kapil, whose mother moved from Fiji to Canada in the 1960s, reflects on how the creative process has deepened her understanding of her mother’s experiences, especially as a woman of color navigating cultural expectations. Chew shares her own experiences of anti-Asian racism and how her mother’s strength empowered her to tell her own story, breaking away from stereotypes.

The play’s development was inspired by the My Mother’s Story writing project, founded by awardwinning actor and playwright Marilyn Norry. Norry, also a core member of the Delta Stageworks team, has been a key figure in the project’s evolution.

The production also features veteran actor Eric Keenleyside, who tells the story of his mother’s resilience escaping Europe after World War II, and Renee Iaci, who takes audiences through her mother’s emotional journey from Powell River to the Vancouver nightclub scene of the 1960s.

‘Heirlooms & Baggage’ promises to be a moving and transformative experience, celebrating the diversity and strength of women’s stories. Audiences are encouraged to discover their own mothers’ histories and reflect on the shared experiences of women across generations.

Tickets for the North Delta performances are available at www.deltastageworks.ca, with a preview on February 12 and the main performance on February 13.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to get dressed up, whether you’re headed out for a romantic dinner, a cozy brunch, or a fun night out. With so many options to choose from, dressing for love this season has never been easier. From chic evening wear to casual date-night outfits, here are the latest fashion trends to help you look your best and feel confident on this special day.

Elegant Evening Wear

For a fancy dinner or cocktail event, a romantic slip dress is a timeless and flattering option. This year’s top trends include soft, flowy silhouettes in deep reds, blush pinks, or classic black. A slip dress pairs beautifully with delicate jewelry, strappy heels, and a sleek clutch. Add a cozy, tailored jacket or faux fur stole for extra elegance if needed.

Another romantic option is the ruffled or tiered dress. Perfect for adding movement and texture, a tiered midi dress in soft pastels or floral prints exudes femininity while maintaining a playful vibe. It’s versatile enough to transition from a dinner date to dancing.

If you prefer something other than a dress, consider a satin or velvet jumpsuit. These fabrics add a touch of luxury and sophistication. Opt for one with a plunging neckline or off-theshoulder design for a modern and chic look, ideal for those looking for something comfortable yet stylish.

Casual Yet Chic Date Night Outfits

For more relaxed or daytime celebrations, opt for romantic sweaters in soft hues like pink, lavender, or red. Pair a cozy cashmere sweater with tailored pants or a highwaisted skirt for a chic yet laid-back

look. Choose sweaters with unique details like puffed sleeves or lace accents to add a romantic touch.

A high-waisted pant and blouse combo is another stylish and comfortable option. Pair a flowy blouse with wide-leg trousers or tailored jeans. This look is easy to wear and can be dressed up with statement jewelry or heels, or dressed down with flats or sneakers. For added flair, choose silk or chiffon fabrics for a soft, feminine vibe.

For a playful, casual look, denim with a twist remains a great choice. Pair an embroidered or embellished top with your favorite denim—whether it’s a wide-leg cut or a classic skirt. Add a pair of white sneakers or ankle boots for comfort while maintaining style.

Love yourself first: Prioritizing mental health this Valentine’s

As February 14 approaches, much of the world shifts its focus to romantic love, flowers, chocolates, and grand gestures of affection. However, amidst all this celebration of relationships, it’s essential to take a moment to reflect on the importance of self-love and mental health—especially when so many people feel pressure to maintain a certain image of “perfect” relationships, whether romantic or social. This Valentine’s Day, the message is clear: Love yourself first, because true love starts within.

Mental health is an integral part of emotional well-being, and self-care plays a crucial role in managing mental health. However, many people face barriers to taking care of themselves mentally. From societal expectations to the stigma surrounding mental health, the challenges of caring for one’s emotional well-being can be especially prevalent in communities where seeking therapy or support may feel difficult. Despite these barriers, fostering mental health is

just as important as physical health, and there are many ways to practice self-love while managing stress and anxiety.

The Power of Self-Love

Self-love isn’t just about feeling good about oneself or indulging in a bubble bath (though those are nice!). It’s about recognizing your worth, embracing both your strengths and flaws, and caring for your mental and emotional health. But many people tend to neglect their mental well-being while focusing on others or external circumstances. Dr. Sarah Thompson, a clinical psychologist, shares that “selflove is the act of taking the time to care for your emotional health in the same way you would care for your physical health. It’s about acknowledging that you are worthy of respect, kindness, and compassion—most importantly, from yourself.”

This Valentine’s Day, it’s vital to practice this love inwardly. By focusing on mental wellness and stress management, we begin to heal and create a foundation of positivity that can benefit all

Prioritizing Valentine’s Day

aspects of life—from relationships to work to daily activities.

Therapy: An Important Tool for Self-Love

Despite the benefits of therapy and counseling, many still hesitate to seek professional help due to cultural stigmas, fear of judgment, or lack of access to resources. Therapy is a safe, confidential space where individuals can explore their emotions, challenge negative thinking, and build resilience. In Canada, where mental health resources are increasingly accessible, therapy options are available both in-person and online, providing support for individuals who may have faced barriers in the past.

Dr. Thompson adds, “Seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of strength. It’s about acknowledging that we deserve the tools and support to be our best selves.”

For those who feel uncertain about seeking therapy, it’s essential to remind yourself that reaching out for help is an act of self-love, a necessary step toward building emotional wellbeing and resilience.

Self-Care Tips for Mental Wellness

Caring for mental health doesn’t have to involve grand gestures. Sometimes, the simplest daily practices can lead to profound changes. Here are a few strategies to improve your mental health this Valentine’s Day:

Mindfulness and Meditation: Regular mindfulness practices help bring attention to the present moment and reduce the effects of stress. Apps like Headspace or Calm offer guided meditation sessions that can be done from the comfort of your home, helping you to cultivate a sense of calm and mental clarity.

Journaling for Reflection: Writing down thoughts and emotions is an excellent way to track mental and emotional progress. Journaling can help process feelings, set intentions, or record what you’re grateful for, promoting positive thinking.

Exercise: Physical activity not only benefits the body but also the mind. Exercise releases endorphins, the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals, which can help reduce anxiety and depression. Even a short walk outdoors can boost your mood significantly.

Positive Affirmations: Start each day with a positive affirmation or mantra. Phrases like “I am enough” or “I deserve love and kindness” help reshape negative thought patterns and set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Taking Breaks: Avoid burnout by giving yourself permission to take breaks. Whether it’s a few minutes of deep breathing, reading a book, or taking a short nap, rest is vital for mental health.

Connect with Others: Social connections are key to maintaining mental well-being. Reach out to friends, family, or even a trusted co-worker to share thoughts, feelings, or simply to enjoy each other’s company.

Making Self-Love a Priority

Valentine’s Day shouldn’t just be a celebration of romantic love—it’s a reminder that love begins within. When you prioritize your mental health, you create a foundation for stronger relationships with others. So, whether you are in a romantic relationship or spending the day solo, this Valentine’s Day, make the choice to love yourself first. Take the time to nurture your mind, seek support when needed, and embrace self-compassion.

Love isn’t just about the relationships we have with others; it’s also about the relationship we have with ourselves. And when we nurture that relationship, it creates a ripple effect that touches every part of our lives.

The healing power of affection, hugs, and

laughter

Natural ways to reduce stress and boost

In today’s fast-paced world, stress and anxiety are often part of daily life. Finding simple, effective ways to manage these pressures and promote good health is crucial. One of the most powerful—and often overlooked—ways to reduce stress and boost well-being is through affection, hugs, and laughter. These simple acts not only provide emotional comfort but also bring significant physical and mental health benefits. From lowering stress hormones to boosting immunity, here’s how affection, hugs, and laughter can enhance overall wellness.

The stress-reducing power of affection Affection, whether expressed through words, physical touch, or gestures, has a profound impact on reducing stress.

When we receive affection, our bodies release oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone.” Oxytocin helps lower cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone, which leads to a reduction in anxiety and tension.

This natural stress relief helps promote relaxation and calmness,

health

which in turn supports emotional health. Moreover, affection fosters a sense of security and belonging. Feeling supported by loved ones allows us to navigate life’s challenges more effectively, making it easier to manage stress and anxiety.

Whether it’s a kind word, a loving touch, or simple gestures of care, affection provides the emotional foundation necessary to cope with daily pressures.

Hugs: the healing touch

One of the simplest and most impactful ways to experience affection is through hugging. Hugs do more than just offer emotional comfort—they provide a range of health benefits.

Research shows that hugging triggers the release of oxytocin,

which helps reduce cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, and regulate heart rates. This immediate physical response helps relax the body and calm the mind, making hugs a natural remedy for stress.

Additionally, hugs have been shown to improve immune function. Studies suggest that people who receive more social support and are hugged more often are less likely to develop illnesses like the common cold.

Hugs not only support emotional well-being but also strengthen the body’s defense mechanisms, making them an essential tool in maintaining good health.

Furthermore, hugs foster connection and trust between individuals. Whether shared between family members, friends, or romantic partners, hugging strengthens bonds and creates a sense of intimacy and support.

This deep connection is vital for emotional health and promotes a sense of well-being that can help combat the negative effects of stress.

Laughter: the best medicine Laughter, often said to be the best medicine, is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and improve health.

When we laugh, the body releases endorphins, the brain’s natural feelgood chemicals. Endorphins promote happiness and relaxation, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

In fact, laughter not only elevates mood but also acts as a natural painkiller, helping to alleviate physical discomfort and improve pain tolerance.

Laughter also stimulates circulation, delivering more oxygen to the brain and body, which enhances cognitive function and promotes healing. By relaxing the entire body, laughter reduces muscle tension and physical stress, offering lasting relief.

The relaxation benefits of laughter can extend up to 45 minutes after the act, providing an ongoing sense of calm.

Additionally, laughter has been shown to improve sleep. By reducing stress levels and inducing relaxation, laughter helps promote deeper, more restful sleep, which is essential for maintaining overall health.

Since sleep plays a crucial role in physical recovery and mental clarity, the positive impact of laughter extends well beyond the moment.

A holistic approach to stress relief

Incorporating more affection, hugs, and laughter into daily life can be an incredibly effective approach to improving physical and emotional well-being. These natural stress relievers don’t require expensive treatments or medications—they are accessible, easy, and highly effective.

Whether through a warm hug from a loved one, sharing a joyful laugh, or expressing care and affection, these simple acts of kindness have a powerful impact on our health.

For anyone seeking to reduce stress, boost immunity, and improve overall health, focusing on affection, hugs, and laughter can offer significant benefits. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, remember the healing power of a comforting hug or a good laugh—your body and mind will thank you for it.

Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love, and it’s the perfect time to embrace beauty rituals that make you feel confident and radiant.

his Valentine’s Day, glow for your love—and most importantly, glow for yourself. Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to step up your beauty routine and shine with confidence. Whether you’re preparing for an intimate dinner, a romantic date, or a cozy night in, the right beauty rituals can help you feel your best and look radiant. Here’s how to ace your Valentine’s Day date night look from glowing skin to romantic makeup and a flawless hairstyle.

Prep your skin for a radiant glow

Great makeup starts with healthy,

glowing skin. Begin by cleansing your face to remove impurities and create a smooth canvas. Follow with an exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells, revealing fresh, radiant skin. For an extra glow, try a DIY honey and lemon mask. Honey deeply hydrates while lemon brightens your skin naturally—apply it for 10-15 minutes and rinse for an instant glow.

Next, use a brightening serum with vitamin C or hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate your skin. These ingredients help improve skin texture and give you that healthy, lit-from-within look. Finish with a nourishing

moisturizer to lock in hydration and keep your skin soft and smooth.

Romantic makeup for the perfect date night look

When it comes to date night makeup, the goal is to enhance your natural beauty with a romantic twist. Start with a light foundation or tinted moisturizer for an even complexion. A cream blush in soft pink or peach adds a natural flush and gives you a dewy, fresh finish. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks for a youthful glow.

For eyes, create a soft, sultry look with warm shades like golds, pinks, or soft browns. Use a matte shade in the crease for depth and a shimmer on the lids to brighten your eyes. Add a little winged eyeliner for a touch of drama and

definition. Finish the eyes with mascara to make your lashes pop—consider false lashes for extra volume and drama.

A bold red lip is always a classic for Valentine’s Day. Choose a red that complements your skin tone, whether it’s a blue-toned red or a warmer shade. If you prefer something softer, opt for a nude or rosy pink lipstick for a more subtle, fresh look. Don’t forget to line your lips for definition and to prevent feathering.

Flawless hair to match your look

Your hairstyle can elevate your entire look. For a romantic vibe, soft waves are a perfect choice. Use a curling iron or wand to create loose, effortless waves, then brush them out for a relaxed, bouncy look. Add volume with

a texturizing spray for body and movement.

For a more polished and sophisticated appearance, try a sleek low ponytail or a chic chignon. Both styles are elegant and timeless, making them perfect for a romantic evening. If you’re looking for something playful, try a half-up, half-down style. You can add a braid or twist to the top section for a cute, feminine touch.

Perfect nails to complete your look

Nail art is a fun and easy way to add a personal touch to your date night look. Classic red or soft pink nails are always romantic and timeless. For something more creative, add subtle nail art like small heart designs or gold foil accents. If you

prefer a minimalist approach, a nude or pastel pink polish is chic and elegant.

Self-care before the big night To feel your best, take time for self-care before getting ready. Enjoy a relaxing bath with essential oils or a fragrant bath bomb to set the mood. Exfoliate your body with a scrub to leave

your skin silky smooth, and finish with a hydrating lotion or oil to lock in moisture.

If you’re wearing heels, treat your feet to a quick soak and massage to keep them comfortable all night long. Feeling pampered and confident from head to toe will make all the difference in your Valentine’s Day look.

RELA

When you’re knee-deep in diapers, bills, career shifts, or any major life transitions, it often feels like the very idea of “romance” is slipping through your fingers.

Keeping

Nikita Sharma Editor

G Keeping the spark alive

AMID PARENTHOOD AND LIFE CHANGES

one are the days of spontaneous date nights, or those long, uninterrupted conversations where you could get lost in each other’s world. Instead, it’s replaced with tired eyes, shifting priorities, and a to-do list that never seems to end. Keeping the spark alive in a relationship during these times feels like an overwhelming task — but it’s one worth fighting for.

I think the first step in this journey is acknowledging the reality: relationships evolve. The way you connected during the carefree early days won’t be the same when responsibilities multiply. But that doesn’t mean the spark is gone; it might just need to be nurtured differently. And that’s where the real challenge begins.

When I first became a parent, the shift was jarring. There was this tiny human who needed everything from us, and suddenly, my partner and I went from being lovers to co-managers of a miniature household. We were in

the trenches, navigating sleepless nights, endless feedings, and a sense of constant exhaustion that made any notion of intimacy feel impossible. It’s easy to let it

slide, isn’t it? To feel like there’s no time for connection, no space for romance, no energy for “us.” But over time, I realized that while the circumstances had changed, our need for each other hadn’t disappeared. If anything, it had become more essential than ever.

What I learned is that keeping the spark alive doesn’t always mean big romantic gestures or grand dates. Sometimes it’s as simple as a moment of eye contact while unloading the dishwasher together, or a hand placed gently on their back as you pass each other in the hallway. It’s learning to be present, to create those moments of quiet connection in the middle of chaos. It’s finding time to laugh together — even if it’s just over how ridiculous you both look trying to get the baby to sleep.

But it’s also about communication, and being honest about what you need. It’s easy to

assume that your partner knows you’re overwhelmed or craving affection, but sometimes we need to say it out loud. I had to learn to vocalize my frustrations, my needs, and also my appreciation. And, I had to listen — really listen — when my partner did the same. This kind of vulnerability isn’t easy, but it’s what creates a deeper bond and sustains the relationship when life is throwing curveballs.

Scheduling “us time” is something else that can make a big difference. It sounds so simple, but life has a way of filling up every empty space. So, we had to make a pact to carve out time just for the two of us, even if it’s just 20 minutes before bed to talk, or a weekly walk to catch up without distractions. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being intentional. Life changes, but the desire to stay connected doesn’t have to.

And honestly, I think the most important piece is embracing the change. Yes, parenthood and major life changes can shift the dynamics, but they don’t have to suffocate the spark. If anything, these experiences can bring a new depth to your relationship. You see each other at your most vulnerable, your most exhausted, and your most raw. There’s something powerful about navigating life’s challenges together — it builds a resilience and intimacy that can strengthen the foundation of your connection.

So, while it’s true that keeping the spark alive might take more effort during times of transition, it’s also a reminder that love isn’t just about the high moments. It’s about showing up for each other in the messy, difficult, and exhausting times. That’s where the real magic happens — and that’s how you keep the flame burning.
