Message From RI President 2022-23 Dear Fellow Rotary Leaders As we embark on a new year of service, let us take the opportunity to reflect upon the gift of our membership in Rotary. As club and district leaders, you have such an important role to play. You can do so much to help create club experiences that are welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for each and every member-and you can extend that same warmth and belonging to every participant who wishes to engage with our clubs.

Over and over our surveys find that member comfort and care is the single greatest driver of member satisfaction and our most powerful tool in driving members retention.

So, we need to put a special emphasis on membership care and belonging. And that work begins with listening. We need to understand why our members took the big leap and joined us-and we need to know what they expect from us. What do they want out of their Rotary involvement and what we can do to help them get more out of their Rotary experience? We all feel that impact the Rotary service and Rotary values have on us … now it’s our opportunity to share that feeling with others. This is a year to imagine Rotary be envisioning a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing we can make a difference. We don’t imagine yesterday, we imagine tomorrow. We imagine a world without polio, with clean water for everyone. We imagine a world free of disease and where every child learns to read. We imagine kindness, hope, love, and peace. Each of you has assumed important responsibilities as a member of Rotary and I thank you for your hard work. You have made a commitment to help grow Rotary, to adapt to the digital future and to make Rotary more appealing to future generations. Your good work will help us serve our communities and help Rotary thrive so we can imagine Rotary.

Warmest Regards, Jennifer Jones President, Rotary International 2022-23

Message From District Governor 3292 Dear Fellow Rotarians, My best wishes and hearty congratulations to all Rotarians, Rotaractors & Interactors for the Rotary Year 2022-2023. We have just now completed Rotary Year 2021-2022. Rotary International, our District 3292 and Rotary Clubs have done our best to the communities by providing humanitarian services, working in partnership with the Government of Nepal and Local Authorities to serve the communities at times of global crisis. We believe in Rotary’s Four Way Test, which teaches us that we as Rotarians believe in true and fair actions which will bring goodwill and will be beneficial to all concerned. Rotary’s Core Values: Fellowship, Diversity, Leadership, Service and above all Integrity must guide each and every Rotarian. Working for Rotary should be passion and fun, and should not have stress and pressure. Then only we can enjoy Rotary. Look around for people to work together and Rotary gives us that opportunity to do service with fellowship. Sometimes people may ask which part or segment of Rotary we like. Our answer should always be we like Rotary in entirety and not one particular portion. 2022-2023 is a special year for Rotary International as we all are going to work under the dynamic leadership of Jennifer Jones, first female President in 117 years of Rotary International history to achieve the targets set for 2022-2023. Friends more than fifty years ago, one popular song was recorded that included this beautiful line: You may say I’m a dreamer But I’m not the only one. Friends, we all have dreams, but acting on them is a choice. And it becomes our responsibility to make these dreams a reality. Let us imagine a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference. With above vision, Rotary International President Jennifer Jones has given the theme “Imagine Rotary” for the year 2022-2023. Our district has our Theme “Together for a better world”. By focusing on our strategic plan and expands our reach by engaging the Family of Rotary at every age, gender and culture to create lasting change, we can see Rotary increases our impact. We have to give more emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion to achieve growth in female membership and members under the age of forty however without losing the sight of membership retention. We also should work for girl child education leading to women empowerment. All these are achievable with all of us working as a TEAM, team is just not a group of people working together, in reality it is a group of people trusting each other. Therefore, Friends let us all work together to transform our dreams into reality by serving the communities. TOGETHER, WE IMAGINE ROTARY Yours in Rotary

Message From President 2022-23 Greetings Fellow Rotarians, First, I would like to congratulate Rtn. Sachin Awale for successfully completing his Presidency for the year 2021-22. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to each and every Rotarian in RC Kathmandu Height for carrying out the critical tasks needed to our club in these challenging times. Each of you is an extraordinary example of commitment, professionalism and teamwork. I am honored to be the President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height for the year 2022-23. It is such a dynamic and vibrant club that it gives me great pleasure to serve in this capacity. I as a President would like to work with every individual member in projects, meeting and organize events so that we can better understand each other and make differences. Can you imagine living in a world where everyone measures their actions via the Four-Way Test of Rotary? A world where trust, respect for one another, sharing, relationships, fairness, and providing beneficial services, serve as the compass for success. Rotarians can imagine such a world. We can all be proud of our ability to adapt and unite and continue to live our motto each day: Service Above Self. We have continued to deliver support to the most vulnerable in our communities, as well as address the many additional needs that have surfaced due to different situations. I will follow in the footsteps of CP and IPP of our club who have each been exceptional examples of service and leadership. Likewise, I am privileged to have an incredible team of professionals and community leaders currently serving with me on the Board of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height, who are each example of living up to the organization’s aspiration to put service above self. As our RI President Jennifer Jones formulated 22/23 theme “imagine Rotary, yes “It is our offer of hands-on service, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships that creates purpose and passion,”. Imagine a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference. Although we all have dreams, acting on them is a choice we make. When our organization Rotary dreams about big things like ending polio and creating peace, it becomes our responsibility to make them happen. “We don’t imagine yesterday, we imagine tomorrow.”

Finally, with a sense of great responsibility and hope, I ask all of you to work with me, starting now and for many years to come, in building on RCKH's excellence, deepening the mutual support of this extraordinary world, and continuing to take that leadership out into the world.

With appreciation, Yours In Rotary!!!! Rajaram Joshi President 2022-23

A look at the year ahead - Jennifer Jones Dear Rotary family, I’ve always been inspired by something my brother David once told me: “In order to live in the kind of society you want, you have to help build it.” As people of action, Rotary members have a long history of creating positive change within our communities and ourselves. And now, as we begin the 2022-23 Rotary year, I’m excited to continue the work of growing Rotary into the organization we want it to be and know it can be.

Delivering on our promise Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not corporate buzzwords. They’re important reminders that we need to understand and embrace our differences, provide equitable opportunities for success, and welcome one another exactly as we are. For Rotary, DEI means ensuring that our clubs, meetings, and events are places where participants can speak openly and respectfully and where everyone feels welcome. It’s about removing barriers to entry and success and opening doors to inclusion. How can you help? We want to reflect the communities in which we live and serve. Invite community and business leaders and influencers from groups that are underrepresented in your club to participate in a club activity. Encourage a new club member to take a leadership role. Remove obstacles that could prevent some people from joining your club, like a meeting time or place that isn’t accessible to everyone. Our ability to adapt is the key to strengthening Rotary’s future.

Putting members first The main reason Rotarians and Rotaractors remain Rotary members is that they feel welcomed and supported in their clubs. Increasing our membership continues to be a priority, but giving our members experiences they value and reasons to stay is equally important. How can you help? To serve our communities, we first need to serve our members. Talk to your club leaders and fellow members about what they want from their Rotary experience and work together to make it happen. Learning what keeps members engaged is a powerful tool for strengthening Rotary. These membership resources can help.

A look at the year ahead Empowering women and girls All over the world, gender can still affect a person’s ability to get an education, funding for a small business, or proper health care. We know that projects that improve the health, well-being, education, and economic security of girls will have a positive impact on the next generation of empowered female leaders. How can you help? Develop a club-based initiative or apply for a district grant or global grant to fund a project that promotes girls’ health, education, or economic independence. From supporting a local women’s shelter to improving girls’ access to water and sanitation, every project can make a big difference. Share your stories and learn what other clubs are doing to empower girls and women on Rotary Showcase.

Imagine Impact We’ve always proudly showcased the many ways Rotary drives change and makes an impact. This year, we’ll use a variety of storytelling approaches to highlight projects in each area of focus. Our goals are to raise the visibility of our work; engage new influencers, media, leaders, and potential partners; and share what we’ve learned about how clubs can make projects in their communities even more effective. How can you help? Visit the Learning Center to learn more about Rotary’s focus on increasing impact. And download resources from Rotary’s newly updated Brand Center to tell your club’s story. By sharing your club’s successes, you’re showing people that Rotary is a service and leadership organization that makes a difference. Rotary members have demonstrated that when we dream big — as with our fight to end polio — we can make our dreams a reality. This year, I’m asking you to Imagine Rotary — and to imagine a world where we each contribute to lasting positive change. Rotary members have demonstrated that when we dream big — as with our fight to end polio — we can make our dreams a reality. RI President Nominee 2024-25 Congratulations! Stephanie A. Urchick for selected to be the 2024-25 president of Rotary International Stephanie A. Urchick, of the Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2024-25. Stephanie A. Urchick, of the Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2024-25, a decision that would make her only the second woman to hold that position. She will be declared the president-nominee on 15 September if no challenging candidates have been suggested. With the world facing incredible challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, disasters driven by climate change, and conflict in many regions, Urchick says Rotary’s leaders can offer a vision and a plan for overcoming these challenges. “Measures taken by Rotary leadership to survive and end critical challenges often make our organization stronger and more resilient for future events,” Urchick says. “This kind of essential leadership also creates new levels of cooperation, even among rivals, when Rotarians pull together as people of action to serve and solve a crisis.” Making regionalization a priority is crucial, says Urchick. “Because Rotary operates in more than 200 countries and regions, it is vital to recognize that the organization has the potential to become more efficient and effective by understanding and reacting to how regional differences affect the way Rotarians work together to address providing service, promoting integrity, and advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace,” Urchick says. Urchick is partner and chief operating officer of Doctors at Work LLC, a consulting and training company. She holds a doctorate in leadership studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is active on numerous community boards and committees, and has been honored by organizations including Zonta International and the Sons of the American Revolution. A Rotary member since 1991, Urchick has traveled to Vietnam to help build a primary school and to the Dominican Republic to install water filters. She studies several Slavic languages, has mentored new Rotarians in Ukraine, and coordinated a Rotary Foundation grant project in Poland. Urchick has served Rotary in many roles, including as a director, Foundation trustee, and chair of the RI Strategic Planning Committee and the Foundation’s Centennial Celebration Committee. She currently serves on the Election Review Committee and the Operations Review Committee. She is a Rotary Foundation Major Donor and a member of the Bequest Society. To learn more about Urchick, read her interview and vision statement, which outline her goals for Rotary. The members of the Nominating Committee for the 2024-25 President of Rotary International are: Floyd A. Lancia (chair), Rotary Club of Anthony Wayne (Fort Wayne), Indiana, USA; Guiller E. Membership Development Develop Membership Retention & Recruitment Strategies August is membership and Extension Month, a time to focus on and appreciate our members, celebrate their devotion to the club and the impact they have made. It's also a time to think about developing strategies around growing our membership. The reason why Rotary is such a successful organization is because it is full of members that have one trait in common - the passion to make a difference in the world. All of us share this passion and it's what drives us to work together. Today, a growing population of youth are not even aware of what the organization is or does while those that do are unable to join for a variety of reasons. Granted, Rotary made many changes to combat this challenge such as the introduction of e-Clubs, relaxed attendance requirements, more meeting time options, etc. but we still have ways to go. Members continue to leave and clubs continue to struggle to recruit.

Membership Development

Analyze results from past exit interviews to see what members cited as their reason for leaving the club. Often, you can immediately see a pattern to act upon. Make sure every member has some role to play. Every member in our club joined to become part of something big, and if they aren't being given a chance to make a contribution to the club, slowly but surely, their satisfaction level will begin to decline. Consider giving each member some sort of responsibility at every meeting (ex: introduce/thank speaker, contribute jokes of the week for the club newsletter, etc.). Focus on happiness: happy members are those that are motivated to do good for the club. There are many ways to keep members happy. Sometimes just being asked means a lot, so in our next meeting, have every member anonymously write changes that they would like to see in the club which would make them happy. Such a simple act shows our members that we care about their presence in the club.

Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height

Membership Development Recruitment Strategies Even though our club may have an open-door policy, many prospective members interested in joining still might be hesitant to come visit. Promote our open-door policy everywhere we can - on our website, social media and even at our meeting location (example, at the entrance of the building, near the elevators, staircase, etc.) Put up flyers welcoming visitors pointing them to where we meet, time, etc. The more signs prospective members see, the more we've alleviated their fear of trying something new.

Countries like Germany, India, Africa have all seen an increase in membership due to the emphasis they've put on personal connections. Rotarians here have been urging family members to join and have even created new clubs that meet in the evenings and have lower fees for the children of all members. This makes it easier for parents to balance family life with club service. All of us know at least one person that might be a good fit for Rotary, whether that person be a colleague, family member or friend - all we have to do is ask. Many Rotractors tend to leave Rotary altogether. Team up with a local Rotaract club and speak more on the benefits of joining our club, so that we can create a smooth transition for them to join our club when they are ready. Create a club designation to recognize members that recruit the most members. Then for every 2 or 3 new members that join, the recruiter receives the special club designation title. Plus take advantage of Rotary's New Member Sponsor Program. Ask our guests and speakers to join our club, even if they choose to join as honorary members. Most importantly, follow up with all of our prospective members. we can now add all our prospective members into our contacts list, so following up is easy. Send a personal note reminding them of their interest in the club and reinforce the benefits. At the end of the day, it's up to us to open the door to new members by asking people to join.
