A message from the General Manager General Manager Jim Troutman jim.troutman@raintreecc.net Dear Members, As many of you are quite aware, the effects of the pandemic are still very present, not only in the health of many but in its impact on operations. Our business, along with so many others, are experiencing shortages in so many areas, including materials, food, and most importantly, employees. I ask for your continued patience as we navigate these challenges. Be aware that our operations are affected, and we will monitor and adjust hours, menus, events as necessary. We have a dedicated Staff as you know, and we are working diligently as a team to provide the excellent service you have come to know and expect. Thank you in advance for being gracious to all of our Staff and showing your appreciation for their hard work. As always, we will communicate all changes as quickly as we can. As we come into May, we have lots of fun and classic events to take part in. Including the Men’s Stag Member-Guest, Derby events for the Men and Ladies, PGA Jr. League is getting started, and of course we are excited to see the Pool open on May 22nd. Pool News Pool Opens May 22nd Pool Season is here and we are all excited to feel the sun and cool water! Below are the

hours for the upcoming year as currently scheduled. Also please review the Club Rules for the Pool and have your picture updated on the Mobile App to get checked in. We are excited to have everyone come out and see the brand new furniture on the Pool deck, ready for the summer! Member Spotlight Ken Rice shoots his age for the 800th time!

On April 19th, Member Ken Rice shot his age for an astonishing 800th time! On that day he shot 79 on the South Course to shoot his age or better for the 800th time. He shared his story below! It was one year and one week from the day I did it for the 700th time. It only took me 103 rounds to shoot my age or better 100 times in the time of a little more than one year. The first year I shot my age or better was in 2007 with rounds of 68 at The Divide, 70 and 69 at Raintree South and North and 70 any Old Sycamore when I was 70 years old. In total over the last 14 years, I have shot my age 107 times, better than my age 628 times and all but 65 times have been at Raintree with 391 on the North and 344 on the South. I have been blessed with golf skills and good health that have allowed me to achieve this goal and hope to get to 900 by next spring.

RMGA The flagship event for the RMGA returned to the traditional 5 separate 9 hole matches and it was a smashing success. We started the weekend off Friday with a great dinner on the patio deck. Teams were purchased, paramutual betting was opened up to everyone, and the spread of food and drinks didn’t disappoint. We got a shotgun start at 8:30am Saturday and we were off to the races. Teams competed in three quick 9 hole matches on Saturday trying to lay the ground work for an opportunity to win their flight that Sunday. With weather close to 70 and not a cloud in the sky we teed off Sunday, everyone with a chance to win the $$$. Unfortunately, there has to be a winner and five losers in each flight and our eleven flight winners took to the South course (holes 16-18) to battle it out for a champion. With a few favorites like Mumma/Thurston and Abernathy/Abernathy going out early it was anyone’s game. However it was a gutty up and in from a savvy Raintree veteran, Jay Herring, that would end up sealing the deal for team Herring/Bengtsson and crown them Member-Member champions. RWGA Happy Mother’s Day Ladies! The season isn’t ready to get into full swing soon though we still have some events on hold. The first two Interclub matches have been postponed so the first match of the year will be June 16th with Raintree playing against River Hills at Charlotte CC. Handicap News When a hole is started but not completed, (for example because the result has already been decided or a hole is conceded in match play) the player must record their most likely score or net double bogey, whichever is lower. The most likely score is the number of strokes already taken plus the number of strokes the player would most likely require to complete the hole plus any penalty strokes subject to the maximum of net double bogey. The new World Handicap System has issued guidelines to help in determining the most likely score. • If the ball is on the green no more than 5 feet from the hole add 1 stroke. • If the ball lies between 5 feet and 20 yards from the hole add 2 or 3 strokes depending on the position of the ball, the green difficulty and the ability of the player. • If the ball lies more than 20 yards from the hole add 3 or 4 depending on the position of the ball, the green difficulty and the ability of the player. These are guidelines and not strict rules and offer players assistance in determining a score after picking up. Please contact the Handicap Committee if there are any questions. May 2021 | 13

The Niners NINERS COMPETE FOR CASH AND PRIZES IN THEIR FIRST FUN DAY Niners are off to a bright start to the season with their first monthly FUN DAY. Under sunny skies on April 6, Niners purchased tickets for a putting contest: Sink the 50-foot putt and win the pot. Despite precise—and darn close—putting, no one managed to win the pot; so it rolls over to our next FUN DAY (May 4). Nice try, ladies!

Niners then jovially competed as teams in a game of Captain’s Choice. First place was a tie between the teams of: • Annie McCulloch, Val Adams, Ellie Savage and Bonnie Green (shown from left to right below), and • Stacie McGinn, Bonnie Thyer, Betty Blackwell (shown from left to right below) and Keri Lennon (not shown). Second and third place finishers included, respectively, the teams of: • Wendy Walters, Leslie Mucha and Jane Fisher, and • Marguerite Davis, Marcia Schacter, Mary Deery, Judy Walsh and Laurann Robertson.

RSMGA The Omega Season didn’t quite start out the way the RSMGA had envisioned as we suffered home and away losses to Cowan’s Ford. Congratulations to the team of Roger Littell and Rex Shelton who came away with three-point wins in both matches! Mixed Golf Events Monthly Mixer On Friday April 30th we kicked off our 2021 Monthly Mixer

season. Had a fun time and because we had several last minute cancellations- a first - had a couple of the pros fill in. Closest to pin winners on #5 - Stephanie Bendfeldt and Hartmut Bendfeldt and #9 - Cindy Sikorski and Kelly Straub. First place winners - 30 - the team of Kelly Bradbury, Cindy Sikorski and Karen Covington. Second place tie 32 - Stephanie Bendfeldt, Dennis Lazarus, Andrew McDonald and Sheri Straub and the team of Kelly Straub, Hartmut Bendfeldt, Keri Lennon and Mary Deere. Junior Golf at Raintree PGA Junior League is back

Our 2021 PGA Junior League season will get started in late May for Junior Golfers under age 14. This season we will be doing an ‘in house’ League. We expect to have four teams competing against one another in six matches. This also means that we will have our very own Raintree All-Star team to send to the playoffs at the end of the season. Cost for this season is $275 with $75 being paid to the PGA at registration, the rest will be billed to your Member account. Teams will play in 6 matches, have 6 practices and likely a couple of scrimmages with other local teams. Coaches will be Brian Talley, Luis DeJesus and Tylers Lucas. Summer Golf Camps Ages 10-13 “Junior” Golf Camp: This year’s Junior Summer Camps are aimed at bringing kids into the game of golf by focusing on PLAY and FUN. The camp provides a great start on a lifelong path for love of the game, by coaching skills in a way that is fun and enjoyable. In addition to learning the fundamentals for full swing, putting, and chipping, campers learn golf’s rules and etiquette. They also learn life skills, such as integrity and good sportsmanship, which are important building blocks to developing strong character. In addition to learning and practicing, each day the campers get a chance to test their skills on the golf course, playing the many different formats golf has to offer. Players will also be grouped with instructors according to ability and experience, insuring beginners and advanced players will all flourish by learning in the best environment. Ages 7-10 “Futures” Golf Camp: These half-day camps are the perfect way to introduce young kids to the game of golf with the focus being PLAY and FUN. The camp provides a great start on a lifelong path for love of the game, by coaching skills in a way that is fun and enjoyable. We use game like training techniques to keep the kids engaged while learning the fundamentals of golf. In addition to learning the fundamentals for full swing, putting, and chipping, campers learn golf’s rules and etiquette. They also learn life skills, such as integrity and good sportsmanship, which are important building blocks to developing strong character. Queens University Junior Camp: This year we welcome back Queens University of Charlotte Men’s Golf Team for another Junior Golf Camp. Andy Serketich, Head Coach – will be accompanied by a few of his players, to help me coach the group of middle school and high school students. Coach Andy and his players run us through what its like to play on a collegiate golf team. We cover everything from practices, competitions, swing improvements, and on-course play. Tennis News Summer Camps Summer will be here before you know it and that means it’s time for summer camp! Summer camp will run from May 31st through August 13th for kids ages 6-12. We still have openings for all weeks, but some weeks are starting to fill up fast. Registration can be done online or by filling out a form in the tennis shop. Junior Tennis Team The Junior Team Tennis season is nearing the halfway point and I can already see such a huge

improvement from several of the players. This Season we have 26 new players that have joined the team!! Our teams are representing Raintree Country Club very well by competing until the end of their matches and showing exceptional sportsmanship!! One team that has been competing exceptionally well is our 14 & Under Team 1. They are now 3-1 and are 3rd in the division of 14 teams!! The top two teams in the division advance to the Junior Team Tennis State Championships in July!! Pickleball N ews Mark Saturday May 8th on your calendar! We are holding

an “Introduction to Pickleball” event between the hours of 9AM and 11AM. This event is intended for anyone who has never tried Pickleball and wants to know what all the buzz is about and also for those of you who are in process learning this fun and fast game.
