Glynn County’s BEach SaFE Program promotes beach and water safety education to residents and visitors. Keeping our beach goers informed and safe is a top priority! The two most popular public beach access areas on St. Simons Island are Massengale Park and Coast Guard Park/East Beach.
MassENgalE Park
1350 Ocean Boulevard amenities: Picnic area with grills, playground, restroom facilities, parking, and beach access with ADA accessible mats
Coast guard Park 4100 First Street amenities: Picnic area, seasonal concession facility, restroom/bathhouse facilities, parking, sand volleyball court, and beach access with ADA accessible mats As you make plans to spend a day at the beach, please be aware of the following:
• Beach guards are on duty from massengale Park to coast guard Park as follows: 11am-6pm daily beginning the Friday before Memorial Day to early-August 11am-6pm weekends – early-August to Labor Day
• Sandbar Patrol by trained Glynn County personnel is conducted on select weekends in April, May, and September. Patrol is typically 2 ½ hours before high tide and 1 ½ hours after high tide.
• Do not swim to the visible sand bars. Our tides change quickly and will submerge the sandbar and leave swimmers stranded in deep water.
• Due to the unique shape of our beach, the currents can be swift and dangerous at times. Even the strongest of swimmers may struggle in the strong currents. Don’t swim alone!
• Glynn County utilizes a Beach Warning Flag system.
