Project Management: Choosing Between Professionals

One of the most challenging challenges for any Architectural Project Management is managing employees, funding, and client meetings.

The skill of leading and developing projects from conception to completion is a definite skill in the art of Project Management.

Unfortunately, some architects lack excellent project management skills. As an industry, there are simply too many well-meaning but inexperienced Architects who have very little experience managing

projects. These projects can be no less difficult to manage because the Architect's lack of management skills is only magnified.

The first step in successfully managing projects is to acquire the necessary experience in Architecture project management. This could be accomplished by working as an assistant on a successful project, by completing internships, or by working directly with professionals in the field. It could also be learned through apprenticeship.

With these experiences under your belt, you will know the challenges that can be experienced when running a typical project. You will also be able to identify those challenges that could potentially be eliminated to free up time for you to help the client.

After you have determined the current status of the project, it is important to continue the project to completion to help eliminate the extra challenges that can arise as the project continues. Project managers should continue their commitment to the client, reviewing progress and reporting any issues as they occur.

By setting up these meetings and taking the appropriate steps to follow up after the client meeting, the Architecture Project Manager can effectively ensure success. In addition, the skills needed to accurately schedule appointments with outside sources, such as architects, engineers, architects, surveyors, and designers, will be invaluable. A successful Architectural Project Manager has the skills to effectively communicate his/her goals and objectives to the Architectural team.

Another area where the expertise of the Project Manager will be put to the test is in the budget. An organized budget is crucial to a successful

client and Architectural Project Manager relationship. Because the Architectural Project Manager will be the first one to work with the client and make decisions about the scope and budget of the project, he/she must communicate with the client, set a realistic budget, and work closely with the client to arrive at a successful project.

Finally, the Project Manager must be able to accept responsibility for the final outcome of the project. While the Architecture Project Management must be able to successfully present the project to the client, he/she should not be a designer, he/she must make sure the architect is effective.

The Project Manager should be able to communicate with the Architectural team, contractors' company, and the subcontractors, at all times. Communicating early and often with the team can be a big help to make sure that everyone is working together to meet the objectives of the Architectural Project Manager. Sometimes this requires the Project Manager to be the first person the architect meets with, as it can be overwhelming for the architect to be around people when they are so busy.

In order to achieve maximum success, the Project Manager must understand the project clearly, he/she must be able to provide concrete answers, solutions, and improvements. The Project Manager should also be able to identify who will be in charge of the project and how the design and scheduling process should be organized. If the Project Manager is lacking these skills, he/she will miss out on the opportunity to make sure that the architect is fully engaged and working in a manner that benefits the client.

In closing, the Project Manager must be aware of the fact that a poorly planned and executed project can cause significant delays and waste of

time and money that could have been better used in the planning process. In order to make sure that the project meets the goals of the Architectural Project Manager, he/she must be able to make good and timely decisions regarding the project's schedule, design, scope, scope, and budget.

The Architectural Project Manager must have an in-depth understanding of the project and is able to navigate around any unforeseen obstacles. Above all, the Architectural Project Manager must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in order to ensure the success of the Architectural Project.
