Newly added last year, the Deep Creek Farmer’s Market is open Memorial Day through Labor Day in the parking lot at Garrett College. The outdoor market features dozens of local farmers, vendors, and artisans. Market goers can enjoy food prepared on site, drinks prepared by Liberated Libations, local produce shopping, and more. Liz George has been a staple in the local community, serving

on the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and other local groups and committees.

Liz is also the attorney at Deep Creek Title Group, a local title company affiliated with Railey Realty.

Prior to the winter season, Wisp Resort General Manager Ron Hawkes released an update detailing several upgrades to the resort. While most of the upgrades were consumer facing, there were several ‘behind the scenes’ upgrades to help the resort run smoothly.

For the slopes and winter season, upgrades were made to the lifts, the lodge, and the snowmaking equipment.

The main lodge carpet was replaced and a new sound music system was installed.

New chair pads were installed on the Chairs 2 & 3, which handle the majority of the resort’s lift traffic. There were 18 new snow guns installed, including permanent energy efficient snow sticks on Possum trail, replacement of snowmaking pipe, and the purchase of a new grooming machine. Most of the

slopes also received upgraded lighting.

After a disappointing winter in terms of natural snowfall, the extra snowmaking equipment helped keep the slopes open and maintained during this past winter.

Wisp ended the 22/23 ski season with 119 days open. With the addition of Jay Peak Resort, the Wisp Resort Season Pass remains an affordable option for the region.

Governor Wes Moore has recommended local attorney Liz George to the Maryland Senate for appointment to the Maryland Economic Development Commission.

The process began in the spring of 2023, where Liz testified in front of the Senate Nominations Committee who then voted and approved. After approval, her name was sent to the Senate for a full vote, which was approved there, as well.

The mission of the Maryland Economic Development Commission is to establish economic development policy in the State and to oversee the Maryland Department of Commerce’s efforts to support the creation, attraction and retention of businesses and

Railey Realty has recently expanded their West Virginia division, adding three new agents to cover North Central West Virginia.

The Railey Realty West Virginia Properties division now includes five full-time agents. Much like Garrett County, many who purchase in West Virginia are looking for a property to fit their lifestyle. Our West Virginia agents are all avid outdoorsmen who truly live the lifestyle they’re selling. The Railey WV team consists of broker Kim Landis, Associate Broker Larry Roth, Steve Galusky, Jimmy Galusky, Garrett Ayersman and Joey Charlton.

Kim Landis has successfully owned and operated Landis Realty in Davis, WV, and was our previous

broker for West Virginia in years past.

Associate Broker Larry Roth brings a wealth of knowledge from working in the timber industry and has spent his life enjoying wild and wonderful West Virginia. NEW Local Coffee Options are available! The Travel Mug is a traveling coffee trailer that travels across the county to different locations each day. Also new to the area is Espresso Alley, a drivethru coffee shack located at the intersection of Rt. 42 and Rt. 219 just north of McHenry.

NEW Farm Store opens in McHenry. Wildom Farms offers an assortment of farm-fresh processed meat and other farm-made products.

The farm often hosts brunches onsite and other locations and offer food truck options at the Deep Creek Farmer’s Market.

NEW Driving Service Options are available in the Deep Creek Lake area! Deep Creek Drive offers a van service for pickups, drop-offs, and all-night events. Deep Creek Party Bus is also a new driving service that features a fun interior atmosphere that’s great for longer trips or an all-night adventure. Both driving services are available year-round.

You can find more information on their Facebook pages. While there are some ride-share options in the area, booking driving services is the best way to go!
