Introduction by Darren Caplan, Chief Executive, Railway Industry Association (RIA)
An unparalleled opportunity to demonstrate expertise, exchange ideas, build partnerships, and explore the technologies shaping the future of rail. On behalf of the Railway Industry Association (RIA), I am delighted to welcome rail suppliers to the UK Pavilion at InnoTrans 2026, and to have the opportunity in this publication to showcase the talented and innovative organisations that make up the UK rail supply chain. RIA is proud to support all of the country’s UK-based companies as they build connections, demonstrate capability and pursue opportunities across both domestic and international markets. Whether you are a regular visitor or attending for the first time, InnoTrans remains the world’s leading international trade fair for transport technology, bringing together thousands of exhibitors from across the globe. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to demonstrate expertise, exchange ideas, build partnerships and explore the technologies that will shape the future of rail. The long-term drivers of demand for rail remain strong, with industry growth averaging three per cent per year globally. Urbanisation, population growth, digitalisation and decarbonisation are all reinforcing the case for greater investment in rail. Around the world, significant programmes are underway to modernise existing networks and develop new ones, creating substantial opportunities for
suppliers with the expertise, products and services needed to deliver these projects successfully. Major programmes like the Elizabeth line and Transpennine Route Upgrade continue to highlight the innovation, expertise and delivery capability that exist throughout the UK rail sector. This year’s event comes at a pivotal time for the UK railway industry, as the establishment of Great British Railways (GBR) marks a significant milestone for the future of the UK’s rail network. The creation of a single directing mind presents an opportunity to deliver a more integrated system, providing greater clarity on long-term priorities and investment. GBR has the ability to strengthen collaboration between infrastructure managers, operators and suppliers, whilst supporting innovation and creating a more stable environment for investment. A clear, long-term strategy for the sector, which is expected in autumn 2027, can further enhance the position of UK rail suppliers both domestically and in export markets. One of the great strengths of InnoTrans has always been the opportunity it creates for networking, collaboration and
knowledge-sharing. The conversations that begin here often lead to new partnerships, new markets and new solutions that help deliver better railways around the world. Rail remains one of the most effective means of enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth. So on behalf of everyone at RIA, I would like to wish you a successful and productive week at InnoTrans 2026. And I hope your participation helps generate new opportunities for your business and showcases the very best of the UK rail supply sector on the global stage. Kind regards Darren Caplan, Chief Executive, RIA
