Age: Grade 8 - 9 (13+) teaches us what struggling with cancer is really like. Meet Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Waters who bond over their shared struggles involving their illness: cancer. At the beginning of the book, Hazel is in a fairly rough spot in her life, but despite his own struggles, Augustus pulls her right out of it into a much better place. Not only does the book contain slow-burn romance, but also the philosophical views of the main character (Hazel Lancaster) on the unfairness of life. Why do these horrible things happen specifically to us? This detrimentally sad book about two starcrossed lovers is a great read for a dark rainy night.
