Sofa Season

LA SANITATION, CITY OF LOS ANGELES BULKY ITEM COLLECTION

Please recycle your bulky items through charitable organizations and thrift stores. However, if you are unable to do so, LA Sanitation (LASAN) will pick up your large/bulky household items such as mattresses, couches, doors, carpet, toilets, electrical waste and other furniture and items from residents serviced by LASAN.

To remove these bulky items from your curbside, please call the LASAN Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489 at least one day before your regular collection day. Bulky items are collected on the day of your regular refuse collection. Please have an itemized list of your items ready when calling or submitting your request.

You may also send your Bulky Item Collection Service Request by clicking on the Service Request Form to the right. Please complete the entire Service Request Form and click the Submit button.

Sofa Season

With a brief web search of “Sofa history” it seems the origin for the word ‘sofa’ dates to 2000BC Egypt and the Arabic “suffah”, roughly meaning bench.

Archaeologist Howard Carter found specifically crafted upholstered couches in the tomb of the King Tutankhamen.

The term “couch” comes from the French word “coucher,”: “to lie down” perhaps explaining the vernacular terms “couch potato”, “couch surfing”, or “getting of the couch”.

Couch and sofa are often used interchangeably although sofa seems to be preferred by the industry.

The easiest way to tell the difference between couch and sofa: pets and kids prefer couches.
