Youths are downtown without supervision, damaging property, dangerously riding their bikes and scooters on Bow Street, unlawfully going onto properties, throwing water bombs at members of the public, and other anti-social behaviour. If they are challenged by members of the public, they intimidate, verbally abuse and threaten them. They are also extremely verbally and physically hostile towards attending Police. These kids are aged anywhere between 9 and 19. In one incident, heavily outnumbered attending Police had to deploy pepper spray to ensure their safety from a large group of teens. We have tried several times to speak to these kids at the time of attending to educate and appeal to them to stop their behaviour but we are met with hostility, swearing and
We will need to take appropriate enforcement action from now on. The kids have been warned that Police will start issuing tickets for traffic offending – not wearing helmets, riding against the flow of traffic, wheel stands, etc and we will confiscate bikes and scooters to prevent further offending. Parents/ care givers will then be contacted if they can be identified, to come to the station to pick up their child’s bike or scooter. We are asking that parents take some ownership of this situation and educate their children on civilised, appropriate behaviour in public. To have some respect for other road users, pedestrians and Police. We are not the enemy here. We are just trying to educate first to keep the kids and everyone else safe so that everyone can enjoy being downtown in the weekends. However, if they continue with their disregard for road safety and other people, we will be forced to take enforcement action against them. There has been a spate of bicycles stolen. Be aware to lock up your bicycles when leaving them unattended. Record the serial numbers of the bicycles (often found underneath the pedal housing) and take photographs of the bikes. Remember to make reports using 111 if it is happening now, or 105 if it has already happened. Or make an online report on the NZ Police website. Emailing, texting or calling Raglan Police staff members is not the way to make reports or complaints. None of us work 24/7 or 365 days a year. t’s time to ditch the gardening this Labour Weekend and head out to the popular seaside town of Raglan for its 16th Annual Raglan Arts Weekend (RAW), poised to be the biggest on record yet. 48 studios will be opening their doors showcasing over 70 artists from the Whaingaroa area, widely known for its high standard of art. Visitors will be spoilt for choice this year with live painting, installations, demos and inspiring talks in addition to the traditional open studio art trail. “There will be plastic waste turned into sculpture by robots, live two-handed painting in Volcom Lane, a UV art musical showcase, hat making, Intaglio printmaking and so much more,” says Nicky Brzeska, RAW’s Coordinator. Other media include painting, Japanese Gyotaku fish printing, 3D printing, stone sculpture, textiles, photography, designer
jewellery, graffiti art, glass art, bespoke furniture, mosaics, illustration, and so much more. It really is an event for everyone, traditionally drawing art collectors from bigger cities all over New Zealand, to families who find plenty to keep themselves entertained. Visitors enjoy seeing The Hatch Raglan’s incubator for emerging art talent - at the Town Hall, showcasing 17 of the hottest upcoming superstars Raglan has to offer. RAW’s partner, the Raglan Country and Blues Music Festival, will also be on over the weekend, with The Warratahs as the main headliner, and even a Youth Concert to entertain all. “It’s a bit like a choose-your-ownadventure where you grab a trail map and get to explore the quaint town and its surrounding areas, and see these epic spaces all over Raglan come alive,” says Nicky.
It’s been a landmark year for Raglan with hosting the World Surf League (WSL) event, and the town has been selected again to host the event in 2027. RAW has given a subtle nod to its surfing prowess and this milestone event with its chosen lead artwork by RAW graffiti artist Shortydubs, entitled ‘Bored Rider’. “We’re super proud to feature this Raglan artist who seems to be making waves himself and moving from strength to strength,” Nicky says.

Specialist hospital gets its charges back up and flying by Edith Symes
Kylie breeds mealworms for birds which only eat live food.
W
hen a tiny waxeye, or tauhou, flew straight into the picture window of a Raglan West house recently it might normally have been curtains. But fortunately the young Rangitahi couple who retrieved the stunned native songbird from their deck found there was a dedicated bird hospital at Waitetuna – and just a week later were delighted to witness the waxeye’s successful release after treatment back into the great outdoors. The hospital, which goes by the name of Raglan Native Rehabilitation, was quiet when the Chronicle visited, but was on the threshold of its busy season during spring and summer. Soon after the waxeye incident, a very tired and skinny shining cuckoo or pīpīwharauroa was brought in for rehab with a similar
ALL OVER
window-strike injury. It was also exhausted after its 3000km journey from the Pacific Islands. Rest, rehydration, and good nutrition for a few days restored both native birds back to health, vet Kylie Martin told the Chronicle. “It’s amazing what some easy food, warmth and shelter can do,” she added. Kylie’s work is with sick, injured, or orphaned birds. She saved up specifically so her tradesman partner could build, about five years ago, a dedicated bird hospital out the back of their one-hectare farmlet in Waitetuna Valley. “I have always had a special interest in our native birds,” she admits, determined to give them the best possible care. Her purpose-built facility is equipped with incubators and specialty equipment, while adjacent
RAGLAN
are two aviaries where these patients can exercise their muscles and regain fitness before being released back into the environment they came from. Kylie can cater for just one bird – like the waxeye and the shining cuckoo which came and went in quick succession – or have up to half a dozen staying at any one time. Medication kept on hand is generic, she says, because there’s no way of knowing what kind of bird will be brought in for treatment. Moreporks or ruru, tui, kereru, falcons, seabirds and wading birds all have very specific needs, she explains. Kylie does “a quick triage” for each new arrival, weighing and inspecting. Injured birds are normally in shock after having flown into windows or glass balustrades, she says, so pain relief is administered. The wee waxeye with swelling round one of its eyes was then given anti-inflammatory meds for five days while on cage rest. Two more days without meds saw it build up strength in the aviary next door before this dedicated bird rehabber could take it back to Rangitahi for release. Badly injured birds may spend up to three months in her care, Kylie reveals. Any longer and the DOC-registered facility requires an exemption. However Kylie takes the most serious cases straight into Hamilton
Zoo where she is employed as a vet nurse. Having worked in zoo hospitals and veterinary clinics in New Zealand and abroad for more than two decades, Kylie reckons she’s now living her dream – being one of only a few in the Waikato with a DOC permit to capture and rehabilitate native birds. She’s entirely self-funded, her biggest costs being food and meds. To supplement that expense she breeds mealworms – similar to having a worm farm – for birds which only eat live food. The fresh fruit and veggies for other avians come out of her own pocket, while she also stores a few dead mice in her freezer for the likes of feeding owls and falcons. Though it pays to be careful of course not to mix up which end of the freezer’s for hospital needs and which for household supplies, she laughs.

From Raglan junior rugby to the Mooloos by Janine Jackson
Keaton Neels celebrates his first game with Waikato with wife Izzy and baby Maeve.
F
ormer Raglan Junior Rugby player Keaton Neels recently made his debut match with Waikato in the National Provincial Championship (NPC). Keaton is the first Raglan Rugby Club player in recent years to earn
selection for the Waikato Mooloos, with his rugby journey beginning on the fields of Raglan Junior Rugby Club nearly two decades ago. His brother Leroy says their Mum and Dad, Rebecca and Paki, played a big part in getting the boys
into rugby, encouraging them to give the game a go from as young as four or five. The Neels whānau moved to Raglan in 2008 and Keaton joined the junior club as an eight-year-old. He played under coaches Graham Wallace and David Robertson, going on to represent Raglan and play in the Gwynne Shield in his final year of junior rugby. From there, he headed to St John’s College in 2013, playing in the First XV from Year 11 through to Year 13 and making the Waikato age-group side. His dad continued to coach him alongside Shayne Stephens during those years. After leaving school, Keaton played for Hautapu Premiers in 2018 and 2019, earning selection for the Waikato Under-19s in 2018 with support from his uncle, Paul Galletta. In 2019, he headed overseas, combining his OE with rugby by playing semi-professionally for Hilversum in the Netherlands through to early 2020.
Back in New Zealand, Keaton joined Leamington’s under-21 side in 2020, helping the team win the Waikato Championship. He continued playing with the club in 2021. He moved to Hamilton Marist Premiers in 2022 and also played for the Harlequins Waikato Development side from 2022-2026. His time with Marist has brought further success, with the team winning back-to-back Waikato Championships in 2024 and 2025. Sporting talent runs in the Neels whānau. His brother Leroy has played provincial rugby for Thames Valley and the New Zealand Heartland team, while Bobby, an Auckland Grammar student, has played Blues age-group rugby and is set to join the Waikato Academy next year. Brothers Jet and Willis are also making their mark in basketball, with Jet playing premier basketball at St John’s College. Alongside rugby, Keaton has been building his career in the building trade and completing his apprenticeship, while balancing work, rugby and family life with his wife, Izzy, and one-year-old daughter, Maeva. Now, after years of club rugby, time overseas and plenty of hard work along the way, he has earned his chance with Waikato in the NPC. It’s a big step from those early days playing junior rugby in Raglan, but Leroy says his brother seems pleased with where rugby has taken him. “I think he’s happy where he is at the moment,” Leroy says.
Community planting day at Te Uku Village with Create group
T
he Chronicle caught up with Lisa and Nigel Payne, directors of Create Group, the family-owned business behind the development of 34 new sites in Te Uku. On Saturday 7 November, from 11am to 2pm, they are hosting a community planting day at Te Uku Village. Families are invited to register to plant a kahikatea tree in the wetland grove and explore the new development and lifestyle sites on Te Uku Village Road and Tītoki Drive, just seven minutes’ drive from Raglan. What can visitors expect on the day? • A free, family-friendly event with plenty of activities, including: • Free sausages courtesy of PGG Wrightson, slushies supplied by Te Uku Store and drinks provided by Create Group.
• Kahikatea trees supplied by Create Group for families to plant in the wetland grove. • Children's activities organised by Bayleys Raglan. • An opportunity to meet the new principal of Te Uku School. • Pest control education with Greg Townsend from Go Eco, including information about trapping stoats, rats and possums, with traps available to purchase. • Local Murray Grant from Kaitiakitanga Trust will be on hand to help with planting and share knowledge about invasive plant species and wetlands. • Meet the team from JCC Builders at their builders' hub, with activities and animals to pat. • An opportunity to explore the new village and meet families who have chosen to make Te Uku their home.
The event falls on election day. How could locals make a day of it? Locals could pop down to vote at Te Uku School in the morning, then wander over to explore the new roads and lifestyle sites, visit the wetland grove and plant a tree that future generations will see on their journeys to Raglan for years to come.
The aim is to create a relaxed, familyfriendly community day where people can plant a tree, explore the spacious lifestyle sites and meet the family behind Te Uku Village. Community Planting Day – Saturday 7 November, 11am–2pm, Te Uku Village.

Te Mata Playgroup returns back to the community byMelissa McKendry
A
fter more than 12 months closed, Te Mata Playgroup has reopened thanks to the dedication, determination and generosity of local volunteers. Once again, the refurbished space is filled with the sounds of children playing, learning and laughing together. Can you please update us on the progress of the Te Mata Playgroup to re-open? The reopening journey began unexpectedly in June when the Ministry of Education arrived to remove the resources. Recognising the special place the Playgroup held within the community, the Te Mata School Principal asked for one week to see whether there was enough local support to give it another chance. What followed was a remarkable display of community spirit. Support poured in from across Te Mata and Ruapuke, and despite the cold, wet winter weather, July became a month of hard work, generosity, and hope. A community working bee on 25-26 July brought together volunteers determined to breathe new life into a space that generations of local families have cherished.

How is the Playgroup managed and utilised across the local communities?
donating astroturf, and Te Mata Hall for their invaluable support.
For many, the Playgroup is far more than a place for children to play. Over the years, it has fostered friendships, connections, and memories that have spanned generations. During the working bee, local volunteer Samuel Christie shared fond memories of attending the Playgroup as a child, highlighting the important role it has long played in the community.
Te Mata Playgroup is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am to 11.00am with parents fuelled with the generous support of Coaster Coffee and Dreamview.
Since reopening, enrolments have grown into the 30s, with families attending from across the wider Whāingaroa area. As a parent-led, community-run space, the Playgroup provides an opportunity for children to learn and grow while caregivers build friendships and support networks. These community projects don’t happen without a lot of effort from dedicated locals. Can you highlight who has been instrumental in this process? The reopening has been made possible through the generosity of countless volunteers and supporters. Kim Munns; “I love having such an awesome space to hang out with the babies and connect with other māmās and caregivers in our local community. It’s such a welcoming place with great vibes, plenty of support and always a good coffee! It’s lovely watching the little ones play, explore and make new friends while we get to chat, share experiences and support one another through the ups and downs of parenthood. It’s a little community hub where everyone can feel welcome and connected.” Gracey Henry; “Watching how country kids all interact differently. The little chats
they have about farm life. Also, having somewhere so special to meet so close to home. Everywhere else is such a mission!” What value does this Playgroup bring to you and your whanau? Kim Munns; “Playgroup is a real hub for local whānau to come together, have fun, build connections, and learn from one another. Parenting can sometimes feel isolating, especially in those early years, so having a welcoming space where you can meet other families, share experiences and know you’re not alone is incredibly valuable. It gives our little ones the opportunity to socialise, explore and develop through play, while māmās, dads and caregivers can build friendships and a strong sense of community. It’s about creating a space where our tamariki and whānau can grow and thrive together.” Gracey Henry; A safe space for Mums to connect; share all the trials and tribulations of raising a growing family. But also a place for kids to be kids, meet new friends and plan the next little adventure! Also a place away from home, chores, the norm. Where us Mums find a few hours of genuine joy in playing with our little ones, without all life’s distractions.
A new chapter for Raglan Area School library by Janine Jackson

aglan Area School has opened the doors to its new purpose-built library, giving students a modern, comfortable space to discover new books, explore ideas and enjoy the magic of reading. Designed with students in mind, the library offers a welcoming place to settle in with a good book, learn about the world and let their imaginations wander.
Librarian Nic Taylor says the space is adaptable, with rolling shelves that can be moved around to create different layouts to suit a range of activities and learning needs. “Our new library space is beautiful – it is a calm and quiet place for learning. I have set up a cozy reading area for senior students to hang out during lunchtime, while keeping a cool spot for our younger students to enjoy,” Nic says. “It is wonderful to come to work each day, love my job, and see the students buzzing about reading and books. I am super
lucky, as the library has the best view at the kura – seeing the ocean each morning is magnificent.” Six-year-olds Quinn Sandwell and Byron Parsons were enjoying some quiet reading time with their favourite books. “It’s so nice because it’s so relaxing and quiet, and you get to take books home,” Quin says.
“There’s books like Minecraft and Pokémon, and it’s really calm and I get to see the view,” Byron says. The new facility retains the name of the former library, Te Rapunga, gifted by the late Wini Bidois, a former kaiako, to inspire students to seek knowledge. With its modern design and comfortable surroundings, the new library is set to become a much-loved part of school life, offering students a place to read, imagine, learn and connect.
Coastguard: A callout with good intentions Update from Raglan Volunteer Coastguard
A
t 14:16 on Sunday 11th October, Raglan Volunteer Coastguard was paged to reports of a foiler struggling near the entrance to Raglan Harbour. Rylock Waikato 2, one of our Rescue Watercraft (Jet ski) arrived at Wainamu Beach at 14:29, where crews spoke with several kitesurfers, the informant, and Raglan Police. During these discussions, a foiler approached and confirmed that he had been swept out of the harbour, but had managed to make his own way safely to shore along Ngarunui Beach. However, the timings of the reported sighting and the foiler’s return to shore didn’t align. With the possibility that someone else could still be in trouble, the decision was made to conduct a full search. Rylock Waikato 1 was already searching the Raglan Bar, while Rylock Waikato 2 searched the South Spit and Ngarunui Beach. Raglan Surf Life Saving also joined the response, deploying an IRB to search the
shoreline before continuing southwest along the coast. What followed was an excellent demonstration of the experience, local knowledge, and search skills of our volunteers. Working in choppy conditions with a 1.6 metre swell, both RWC crews quickly established creeping line search patterns, supported by experienced crew at Coastguard base who coordinated tasking and tracked the vessels throughout the operation. Our rescue watercraft do not have fixed onboard GPS or navigation systems. The search tracks shown in the accompanying images were therefore achieved through the skill, judgement, and navigation ability of our volunteer operators, working in challenging sea conditions. Supported by effective coordination from base, the crews were able to carry out structured, coordinated searches of the relevant areas.
After just over an hour of searching, the operation was stood down. Thankfully, there was no indication that anyone remained in need of assistance. A large log, with a branch resembling an arm, was spotted by crews and may have been the object originally reported. While this appears to have been a callout prompted by good intentions rather than an actual person in distress, it was a valuable reminder of how quickly our volunteers can mobilise and how effectively they work together when someone may be in danger. A big thank you to the informant, Raglan Surf Life Saving, Raglan Police, and everyone involved in the response. The best outcome is always that everyone gets home safely. And when a potential emergency is reported, our volunteers will take it seriously and do everything they can to establish the facts and ensure no one is left behind. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to raise the alarm. We’d always rather respond
to a call that turns out not to be an emergency than have someone in trouble go without help. If something doesn’t look right, call it in; it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Your Raglan Coastguard Volunteers. Saving Lives at Sea.
Calling Our Community: Your Voice Matters! with Tumanako Whaingaroa
O
ur annual Suicide & Mental Health Awareness Day is fast approaching, and we’re once again inviting members of our valued Whāingaroa community and surrounding rural areas to share their ideas, hopes and wishes for this important day. As in previous years, we will begin with our meaningful Hikoi for Hope — a walk around the three bridges, representing remembrance, connection and solidarity. We invite anyone and everyone to join us on this
hikoi as we acknowledge that we all have our own journey with mental health. It is a chance to walk alongside one another, remember those we have lost, and remind each other that we don’t have to walk our journeys alone. Following the hikoi, we’ll come together as a community for a day filled with support, information, local services, music, a delicious BBQ and nutritious lunch, with opportunities to sit, share kai and connect with one another. We want this day to reflect what matters most to our community, and we’d love to hear your ideas. What would make this day meaningful and valuable for you, your whānau and our
wider rural community? We also welcome anyone who would like to get involved and volunteer their time to help us run the day. You might like to join our volunteer team, lend a hand with setting up or supporting activities, or join our TimeBankers and Neighbours Aotearoa team, who will be helping to prepare the tasty salads and kai for everyone to enjoy. There are many ways to contribute, and every helping hand makes a difference. Please share your suggestions, get involved and help us create a Suicide &
Mental Health Awareness Day that truly resonates with our community. Your ideas matter. Your voice matters. Together, we can create a day of hope, connection, support and community. It has been designed to complement our kerbside collection method, Waikato District Council’s Waste Minimisation Fund supported the build, with a future focus on diverting new waste streams from landfill. The new wall will also help with traffic flow and allow more carparking. Carpark marking has not yet been completed, but in the meantime you can drive right up to the yellow bollards! The new recycling wall started with creative ideas from various staff, using timber and old doors from the Woodyard. The second stage will be the new shop drop off and shop processing area, and we are very excited to bring it to life. Thank you to the Waikato District Council for helping make this happen.

We’ve finally landed on a mix we’re really happy with and reckon it’s worthy of sharing with the keen gardeners of Whaingaroa. Come and purchase from Kaahu’s Nest
SECOND SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH 10AM - 12PM STEWART STREET HALL
The Geology of Karioi Volcano From Whāingaroa Environment Centre Karioi is a familiar presence on Whāingaroa’s skyline, but what can our maunga, harbour and offshore landscape reveal about the volcanic activity that shaped this place? Geologist Dr Oliver McLeod will explore that question at the next Whāingaroa Environment Centre Science Night, sharing new research that adds to the geological story of Karioi and the surrounding area. Oliver’s presentation will draw on new data from Whāingaroa Harbour and the offshore area towards Kārewa, offering further insight into the connections between the maunga and the landscape beyond its slopes. The evening is an opportunity to learn more about the ancient volcanic activity that helped shape the place we call home. Whether you have a keen interest in geology or are simply curious about the landscape around you, everyone is welcome. Science Night takes place on Wednesday 7 November at 7pm in the back courtyard of the iconic Harbourview Hotel. Entry is free. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to order dinner and a drink and find a table. For more information, visit whaingaroa.org.nz/science-night. Fresh local produce, delicious kai and community connection are on offer at the Raglan Growers Market every Friday, from 5–7pm at 3 Stewart Street. Now in its sixth season, the market brings local growers, food producers and the community together. It’s a chance to pick up seasonal ingredients, discover locally made treats and enjoy dinner while catching up with friends and neighbours. Buying locally supports our growers and small businesses, helping build a stronger, more connected local food system. Bring your shopping bags, reusable plates and cutlery, and make the market part of your Friday routine. Join us at Wi Neera Street Community Garden every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, 3–4:30pm, for beginnerfriendly, seasonal gardening. Our family-friendly space welcomes all experience levels and abilities. Learn by doing, share skills or simply enjoy a chat.

Free seminar to explain enduring powers of attorney with Gina Jansen Lawyers
R
aglan residents are invited to a free information seminar on enduring powers of attorney (EPAs) at the Raglan Community House on Tuesday 3 November at 5:30pm. Hosted by Gina Jansen Lawyers and local Justice of the Peace, Wayne Morris, who will discuss the services JPs can provide to the community. Can you explain to our readers what an EPA is? EPA stands for enduring power of attorney, which is a legal document that allows an individual (the donor) to appoint a trusted person (the attorney) to make decisions on their behalf if they lose mental capacity due to illness or an accident. There are two types of EPAs. One is for property and covers money, bank accounts, property, bills and investments. The other is for personal care and welfare, covering medical treatment, living arrangements, dayto-day care and general wellbeing. What are you offering the community? Gina Jansen Lawyers is offering a free, short seminar at the Raglan Community House on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 5.30pm.
We will cover the fundamentals of EPAs and how to put them in place. We will also explain the process and legal requirements involved in preparing these important documents before an individual loses mental capacity. Tell us about your and Wayne's experience in this area. Gina Jansen Lawyers is a Raglan-based law firm founded in 2007. Gina Jansen is the managing director and a senior lawyer with 26 years of experience practising in this area of law. She has helped many families put EPAs in place. Gina has been a Raglan local since 2014, helping residents with property, business, trusts and other family matters. Gina Jansen Lawyers operates full-time from The Factory at 58 Wallis Street. Wayne Morris is one of Raglan's Justices of the Peace. While JPs cannot certify EPAs, Wayne will discuss the important role of a JP and the services they can provide to locals. Wayne will also explain what people should bring with them when attending an appointment with a JP. There’s limited seating, so it’s first in, first serve. Tea and coffee refreshments will be available.

Raglan Football Club, adventures from the Waikato Update from Raglan Football Club
9
th grade boys went to Rotorua for a junior football tournament. They all played so well, showed excellent teamwork, and were great representatives for Raglan with their behaviour and sportsmanship. Here are some snippets from the players about the day: Tai - “So cool to wear my team colours in a different part of the country and getting to represent Raglan against Bay of Plenty’s best. Highlight - crossing the ball and seeing my teammates either header, shoot or try to bicycle it into the net.” Freddie - “Really like travelling and the challenge of playing 5 games in one day. Super stoked to pull off a long pass down the field for someone to run onto, which I had been practicing. Always fun to play with others I don’t normally play with.” Joshua - “It was awesome to represent Raglan FC in the Rotorua tournament We played against teams we don't normally play against, so new challenges. I'm stoked we didn't lose a match, I'm happy I scored heaps of goals, I tried new skills, and we worked well together as a team - we were the Dream Team.” Anker - “The best thing about the Rotorua tournament was playing all day together as a strong team, everyone
getting a chance to assist and score goals. We were so stoked to win all our games! We did lots of good passing and crazy dribbling skills, and loved the challenge of playing the harder teams.” Quinny - “I loved playing with my friends from other teams. We were top of the table and cooked. Loved Leo’s header, Anker’s attempt at a bicycle and all the goals we scored. Go Raglan Roasters.”
Vitaly - “We had to wake up early to get there, but everyone was full of energy anyway and played well all day. It was such a fun time playing football with my friends against other clubs. I loved all of it" Leo - “One of my favourite achievements was getting my first header goal in a game. I was really proud of myself because I have been working on my heading and it was cool to see it pay off in a game.”
Ray White Raglan pairs bowling tournament huge success Update from Raglan Bowling Club
R
aglan Bowling Clubs first summer open tournament was held on Friday October 16, initially scheduled for Thursday 15 the event was postponed one day due to inclement weather. The early call to postpone one day reaped rewards with a capacity field of 32 teams still packing out the club's greens. The event generously sponsored by Julie Hanna and her team from Ray White Raglan is run as a 2 x 4 x 2 pairs tournament and attracted teams from throughout the Waikato plus four teams from Okato Bowling Club 25km south of New Plymouth. The winning team from Putaruru of Mark Nicholls skip and Sasi Karn lead were one of several three game winners but their superior ends won score saw them take home the winners cheque. Best of the local Raglan teams with three wins was Sooty Wilson and Sharon Llewelyn. For new greenkeeper John Lenihan it was his first major event with his well presented grass green receiving many favourable comments.
On the club scene three aggregate events have been completed. First up on September 12 the Moore Cup handicap pairs was won in decisive fashion by Peter Puschmann and Colin Hawkins. On September 19 the Harbourview Cup played as triples saw Heather Dalbeth skip her team of Murray Eddy lead and John Lenihan two to victory. The most recent event the Tom Stephens Triples on October 17 was won on countback by Colin Hawkins skip Kathryn Fitzgibbon lead and Norm Burnand two. Two of our most popular members Anne Burnand and Coleen Parkes both produced their A games to reach the quarter finals of the Waikato centre under 5 womans pairs. The club is attracting record numbers to their regular Wednesday and Saturday rollups which start at 1pm to which new players are encouraged to come and have a go at bowls. The extremely popular Twilight Bowls season will start on Tuesday November 10 with registrations from 5.30pm. For more information about Twilight Bowls or how to become part of our club please phone Alan 021 456751 or Anne021 1393949.

Raglan Naturally Community Trust AGM We'd love to invite our Whāingaroa community to join us for our AGM, to hear about what we've been up to over the past year. It's also a great opportunity to connect and learn more about the work Raglan Naturally is doing in our community.

It used to be HE LOVES GOLF! You know, plus fours, collar and tie, dress jacket, and women in the background, mainly in the kitchen! But, oh, how times have changed since those early days. The SHE LOVES GOLF initiative is continuing this change by encouraging more women into golf. Currently, women's registered membership throughout NZ has risen to 142,880 and casual membership to 203,480, with women also overseeing major administrative roles in golf clubs around the world!! So why not join this changing trend and get along to the Raglan Golf Club on four Mondays, November 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd, and learn how to play the game in a fun, relaxed environment. Starting time is 5.30pm to 7.30pm and the total cost for the four evening golf sessions is $40.00. Register by contacting Sue at shelovesgolfraglangolfclub@gmail.com. Go on, give it a go. Pete Aim

By Neg Rare Landholding With Scale & Harbour Views | Large residential landholdings within Raglan’s town boundary are becoming increasingly scarce, making this exceptional 2,599sqm (more or less) freehold site an opportunity not to be missed. Elevated to maximise its sunny aspect, the gently sloping contour showcases expansive views across Raglan Harbour to Te Akau, providing a breathtaking backdrop for whatever vision you choose to bring to life. Whether you’re dreaming of an architecturally designed residence, a private family estate, or securing a significant landholding for the future, the possibilities here are truly compelling.
