Healthy Christmas The festive season is fast approaching and this can be a busy, demanding time for many people. Endless to do lists can leave us feeling frazzled tired and may impact on our overall health.
Hi everyone. Welcome to our Christmas issue of Connect. Lots of planning and meeting up with old friends for Christmas cheer to come in the next few weeks, catching up with family and having extra time with a loved one it really is a lovely time of year. We are thrilled to chat to Mary Kennedy, we all love Mary on our screens, and she tells us of her disappointment of having to give it all up. We also have all the fun from our Connect Hospitality awards which was lots of fun. Lots of gift ideas included this month so if you’re like me and leave everything until December don’t panic, we have something for you as well as food fashion health and beauty tips to keep you at your best over the festive season. Of course, a reminder of our Annual Ladies Lunch which this year takes place on Sunday Jan 5th. it’s always a great day out and this year we decided to finish off Christmas in style as we normally kick off Christmas. I just want to finish off on a personal note for the year to again say thank you so much for your support to me and my family during my illness this year, its wonderful to have got through it all and I will certainly be celebrating Christmas this year, so while you are rushing around stressing about the best present you should buy remember there is someone out there who is just glad to be able to celebrate Christmas so don’t worry about the size of the gift, an hour of your time is probably worth more to them than any gift you could choose.

Mary Kennedy By Marisa Reidy It’s not yet 9.30am on a cold mid-November morning and RTE stalwart Mary Kennedy has already had breakfast and completed her morning run! The popular broadcaster is in Kilkenny filming for the hugely popular festive special, Christmas from the Castle, but graciously takes time out of her busy schedule to chat to CONNECT. Just a few weeks previously Mary announced that she would be leaving RTE at the end of the year, and when asked how she feels about her impending departure she is refreshingly honest admitting that it’s not really up to her. Regarded as one of the national broadcaster’s most familiar and popular faces for over 40 years – 15 of which were spent as presenter of Nationwide Mary says it is RTE policy that once you reach the age of 65 you retire. “I’m absolutely
going to miss it, I can tell you. I will be here until the end of the year and it will be very hard to say goodbye - but I wouldn’t have chosen to. I just don’t have a choice,” Mary says. “I’m staff and if you’re staff, when you get to 65 you have to retire. That’s just how it is, unfortunately.” But instead of looking at the downside of her impending retirement, Mary likes to remember the great opportunities her career has afforded her, explaining that while she began her working life as a teacher – both here and in France – she always kept one foot in the door of RTE. Her rise to TV stardom was a gradual one, however, as she explains: “After I finished college I went to France for a year and taught English and then I came back and got a job in

my old Alma Mater in Clondalkin, Coláiste BrIde, where I taught for 11 years,” Mary explains. “But I always did a little bit of part-time work in RTE while I was teaching, continuity announcing. Then I went on a career break and then the Eurovision happened (1995) and by the end of the career break I decided I didn’t want to work full time anyway, because the children were small and I was glad to have part time work in RTE. After the Eurovision it kind of evolved because you get asked to do more things. That was in 1995 and I was working as a part time newscaster and that suited me. Then, as the children were bigger and were in school, I was able to do more. I did an education series, then there was Open House for six year s and then after that came Nationwide.” And speaking of the flagship RTE series, you only have to speak to Mary for a matter of minutes to realise just how much she loved being part of it for so many years. “Fifteen years doing Nationwide and I just
love it, every part of it,” she says. “I just love the idea of getting up every morning and exploring this country and Nationwide was the perfect vehicle to do that. It’s a privilege to get inside the heart of a community. I don’t take it lightly and I realise it’s a privilege to be able to do that.” For someone who has had such a distinguished career, it’s probably not easy to pick a highlight – but up there at the top for Mary is hosting the Eurovision. It took three auditions, but was so worth it, she says. “The Eurovision was something I wanted to do since I saw Dana winning in 1970. I’ve always been a Eurovision fan and when it was coming back to Ireland when Linda Martin won in Malmo I auditioned for it the following year but was unsuccessful,” Mary explains. “I auditioned for it the next year, I was unsuccessful, and then it was third time lucky for me.” Reminiscing about the audition process, she fondly remembers the kind advice she received from the late, great Gay Byrne.

Connect | Lifestyle “He stopped me once when I was going for the audition the first time and I asked him if he had any advice for me,” she recalls. “He said the only advice I will give you is to be yourself, because if you try to be something you’re not you’ll get away with it for a while but you always get found out. He said if you have what they want, you’ll get it and if you haven’t you won’t. And I didn’t have what they wanted until the third time came around, it seems. He was always a great supporter. He and Kathleen had a lovely relationship and kindness, I think, epitomised both of them.” Kerry fans will know that Mary is a huge fan of the Kingdom and tries to visit as often as she can – helped by the fact that she has several close friends here. “A friend of mine, Betty, has a holiday home in Brandon and she spends a lot of time there so I go as often as I can because I love spending time there,” she says. “Then I have another close friend, Mícheál Kearney, who’s from Clahane but lives in the States. He has a house just opposite the church and I love to go down there as well and visit him when he’s home. “The love of Kerry began because my Irish teacher in secondary school was from Kerry and when we were in 5th Year she sent us to the Kerry Gaeltacht and I absolutely just fell in love with the place so much.” Of course, designer to the stars Don O’Neill is another close friend of Mary and has dressed her on several
occasions. She has nothing but love for Don, his husband Pascal and his entire family. “We met a number of years ago at the Rose of Tralee and have been friends ever since. Sure once you meet Don and Pascal you are just brought under their wing. Don is so fabulous and so creative and Pascal is just such a wonderful support and together they are just a wonderful team. They are so very loving and so kind and so gentle and I couldn’t be happier for his success.” And speaking of the Rose of Tralee festival, Mary has been a judge for the past 12 years and absolutely loves everything it stands for. While it’s no secret the festival has its critics, Mary says the only way to silence them is to tell them to come and experience it for themselves! “I’ve been the chair of the judging panel for eight years and I just love it. I value it and I find it to be a wonderful example of what’s best in this country at so many levels,” she says. “It promotes young people, provides role models – both male and female because the escorts are equally important as role models for young guys. I always say to people, to understand the Rose of Tralee just come down and see what it’s about. It’s a wonderful community effort, because it’s a very small company that runs it - the rest is volunteers who rock up every year and they enjoy it. It’s very much a good example of the way we can enjoy ourselves. There are so many things going on.” Mary is also full of praise for the festival organisers –particularly how they treat people. “The organisational skills of the people involved - the way they treat people with respect and dignity and

kindness - is just incredible and the management and staff in the Rose Hotel are just second to none.” So, with Christmas just around the corner, we had to ask how Mary and her family plan to spend theirs. It’s going to be a huge family affair – just the way she likes it! While her son Eoin and his girlfriend Nicola won’t make it home from Australia this year, Mary will be joined by her son Tom and his wife Shona , her daughter Lucy (a photographer who is currently touring with Mary’s famous nephew, singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy, as well as her daughter Eva, her husband and seven month old baby, Paddy – who are currently living with Mary while their house is being renovated. They will all join extended family for a host of very special festive celebrations. “Oh Christmas is huge for our family, we absolutely love it. Last year was my turn to cook on Christmas Day, There were 16 last year in my house. My house is like Santa's grotto. This year, it’s my brother’s turn and his wife. It will be a big family occasion – big fires, lots of nice food, nice wine, bubbles on Christmas Day and just getting together,” she explains. “I have a little routine. The women in the cul-de-sac where I live all get together on a night before Christmas and have a little gathering and have Kris Kindle, it’s wonderful. Then we have lots of other little trips and gatherings. My mother died on Christmas Eve, so every year we have a family gathering on
the 21st and this year it’s my brother’s turn, so we will all go to him in Skerries. As well as that, we’re all going on to the 3 Arena on the 22nd to see Dermot perform and then we have a little brunch on Christmas Eve and then Christmas Day. So it’s just wonderful. It’s all about getting together and we love it.” And if that’s not enough, the Kennedy clan will then travel to Inis Mór to Mary’s sister Deirdre for New Year. So with retirement on the horizon, what’s next for one of RTE’s most loved personalities... “My plan for the future is to enjoy life - to travel, to work to supplement the relatively small pension I will receive from RTE because I was only staff for fifteen years,” she tells CONNECT. “My focus is always on people: family, friends, colleagues. I want to have time to spend with people that are close to me. I want to have time for gardening, cooking and chilling with those I hold dearest.” RTE’s hugely popular Carols from the Castle, presented by Mary, will air on RTE One on Christmas Eve.

It was another great awards night for the industry at our recent Connect Kerry Hospitality Awards at the INEC Killarney. Recognising all that’s good in our hospitality industry it really was a celebration of the standards we strive to deliver every day in the industry, there were many great people and establishments recognised on the night, all whom are featured here, our Lifetime Achievement Recognition was this year awarded to Padraig McGillicuddy of Ballygarry House Hotel. Padraig has the tourism business running deep in his veins and is extremely active and passionate about the development of the tourism industry in Tralee and throughout Kerry. Raised in the family business, he worked his way up through 9 different hotels. He studied Hotel Management at the Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology, and has more than 20 years' experience in various management roles both internationally and in Ireland, before taking over the family business in 2002. While the business was well established, he has had 5 significant developments at the hotel totalling €11 million over a 10 year period. These were Nadur Spa with 20 Bedrooms, Restaurant 58 with all new kitchens, The Brasserie & the Pavilion. Next year the plan is to build The Lodge at Ballygarry” which will be a New England style barn for hosting onsite wedding ceremonies as well as connecting Ballygarry direct with multiple walks to Ballyseede woods. Active in all areas of the development of the tourism industry in Kerry, Padraig was Chairperson of Holiday Tralee from 2006 to 2012, and served as President of Tralee Chamber Alliance from 2012 to 2015. He is also supportive in local employment and sponsorships. Padraig is an avid trekker and has climbed to 20,000ft in the Himalayas & has summited the highest peaks of the European & African continents this year. He is also an aviation enthusiast & has flown as far north as the Arctic Circle & landed on top of the Alps by helicopter. He enjoys Classic cars & motorbike touring with friends. Today he is extremely proud to be running a hotel that has been an integral part of the Kerry community for over sixty years, during which three generations of the family have constantly driven the hotel to be one of the premier four star hotels in Ireland, having being included in the Top Ten Hotels in Ireland on TripAdvisor for past 6 years. Padraig Said, ”I am honoured to receive this award & I accept it on behalf of everyone who assisted me this far in life. I’m only midflight in business so please don’t retire me yet!” And indeed we have no intention of letting that happen, we know only too well that the calibre of Padraig is needed for a long time to come yet but we did feel he has achieved so much to date it was time to recognise this and in a small way thank him for all he has done for the county. Enjoy Christmas and Keep on Track
Party Season is in full swing and can send panic into the core of dieters and gym Bunnies! But Christmas doesn’t need to mean that all your gaols, all your training all your diet efforts need to be completely abandoned. What we want I life is an attitude to exercising and diet or Fueling and training that is sustainable. And its ok to have periods where you relax on your regime, cheat a little with food and have those extra few drinks...It is Christmas after all a time of cheer. Balance and moderation is key! Here are a Few tips to help you keep that balance: 1. Eat before you go to that party to avoid mindless snacking on high calorie finger food 2. Choose your alcoholic beverage, as always moderation is key, but inevitably for a lot of people alcohol will be around more over the next few weeks: a. Slow your consumption b. Keep as hydrated as possible c. Minimize sugar intake which will minimize hangover d. Have a bottle of water that’s been pre-mixed with Dioralyte beside your bed and drink it before you sleep. Plan Ahead, if you have a night out try to fit your workout in earlier that day, if your missing your early morning workout try to get out later that day even a gentle 10-20 Minutes Avoid Skipping meals, just to maintain your regular routine, and if you over indulge at a meal, simply plan for it by being a little better with food the following day Enjoy Yourself, make sure to set realistic diet plans! Trying to restrain yourself totally from some foods will only make you eat more. Feel free to enjoy the treats that you really love, but in small portions. And the biggie….. don’t stress, do your best, that’s all you can do, try to be as active as you can grab the family get out doors!

Method: Place chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 20% power for 15 seconds; remove bowl from microwave, and stir. Repeat procedure about 4 or 5 times, micro¬waving and stirring until most of chocolate has melted. Let stand 1 minute or until chocolate is thoroughly melted and smooth, stirring occasionally. 5. Spread it thin: Pour melted chocolate into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish lined with parchment paper. Spread to 1/16-inch thickness. 6. . Top it off: Set a new favorite holiday tradition— let your little helpers top this gift-worthy bark. Sprinkle with dried cranberries and chopped pistachios. 7. Cool and serve: Freeze 5 to 10 minutes to set. Break bark into 15 pieces (about 1 ounce each) and serve

Festive Dining This time of year calls for lovely comforting food to keep us warm and satisfied. Many slimmers can find it difficult to stay on track. These recipies should do the trick!!
Beef Stroganoff

400 g Beef or Steak thinly sliced 1 Onion thinly sliced 250 g Button Mushrooms thinly sliced 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce 1 tsp White Wine Vinegar 1 tsp Dijon Mustard* 2 tsp Brandy *OPTIONAL 500 ml Beef Stock made you with 500ml boiling water and 1 Rich Beef Stock Pot and 1 Beef Stock Cube 200 g Philadelphia Lightest * Sea Salt Freshly Ground Black Pepper Fresh Parsley chopped to serve Low Calorie Cooking Spray
Instructions
1. Season the beef with a little sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, then set aside 2. Spray a large frying pan with Low Calorie Cooking Spray and place on a medium heat 3. Add the beef to the pan and quickly seal on all sides 4. Remove the meat from the pan, add the White Wine Vinegar and Worcestershire sauce to deglaze 5. Scrape and stir the browned bits from the pan over a medium heat. When most of the liquid has evaporated spray the pan with some Low Calorie Cooking Spray 6. Sauté the onions and mushrooms until they start to brown 7. Add the Dijon mustard and the Brandy and cook for a minute or two Add the stock to the pan and reduce the liquid by half 9. Stir in the Philadelphia over a low heat, making sure there are no lumps of cheese remaining 10. Add the beef back into the pan, stir well and simmer for 5 - 10 minutes depending on how you prefer your beef. We like ours pink so it takes about 5 minutes 11. If the sauce looks a little thick you can add some more water until it reaches the consistency you prefer 12. Slow Cooker Campfire Stew
• 1 small gammon joint, all fat removed • 2 onions, diced • 2 peppers, diced • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 2 tins baked beans • 6 tbsp tomato puree • 1 red chilli, finely chopped Instructions Mix together all ingredients other than the ham. Spoon half of the mixture into the slow cooker, place the ham in the centre, and cover with the rest of the mixture. Cook on high for 6 hours, or low all day. Additional Info When the ingredients are all in the slowcooker, it does look like quite a dry mixture. You shouldn't need to add any water as the juices come out of the meat, but if after a couple of hours it still looks very dry you could add a couple of cups of water or passata.
Loaded Chips
Chips are a versatile dish and anything added to them will make them a winner all round. This dish plays on the classic pizza. Slimming World Chips are made simply by slicing a few potatoes into chips or wedges. Par boil them and spray them with low cal spray oil, shake some seasoning such as paprika and garlic granules or schwartz chip seasoning over them. Then pop into a chip tray or into your airfryer. When done place on a roasting dish and load them up with 70g reduced fat mozzarella*, slices of ham, peppers, onions and sliced chilies. Pop under the grill for 5-7 mins until nice and crispy, serve with a side salad.
Cottage pie with swede mash topping Serves: 4 ,Ready in: 30-60 Minutes

Low calorie oil spray 1kg swede, peeled and chopped (Can be bought frozen) • Salt and freshly ground black pepper • Low calorie cooking spray • 1 red onion, finely chopped • 2 garlic cloves, crushed • 2 celery sticks, finely chopped • 2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped • 500g lean beef mince (5% fat or less) • 400g can chopped tomatoes • 1 tbsp vegetable stock • 1 tsp sweetener • 2 tsp dried oregano • 1 egg, lightly beaten Instructions Cook the swede in a saucepan of lightly salted boiling water for 12-15 minutes or
until tender. Drain, return to the pan and mash until smooth. Season well and set aside. Meanwhile, spray a large non-stick frying pan with low calorie cooking spray and place over a high heat. Add the onion, garlic, celery and carrots and stir-fry for 5 minutes. Add the mince and stir-fry for 5 minutes, then add the tomatoes, stock, sweetener and oregano and stir well. Bring to the boil and remove from the heat. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C Fan/Gas 6.. Transfer the beef mixture to a casserole dish and spread the mashed swede over the top, smoothing the surface with a fork (adding a pattern if you like). Brush with the beaten egg and bake for 25-30 minutes or until lightly golden and bubbling. Serve with mange tout and green beans
Triple Layer Chocolate French Toast •
3 slices crustless wholemeal Bread from a 400g loaf * • 1 tbsp chocolate spread* • 1 egg • 1 tsp vanilla extract • Frylight • sweetener Spread half of the chocolate spread on 1 piece of bread, then layer on the next slice, spread the rest of the chocolate spread on this one and place on the final slice. Whisk the egg with the vanilla essence in a shallow bowl, and then pop the sandwiched bread into the egg, push it gently to soak it up, and turn it over to cover the other side. Soak up as much of the egg as possible into the bread Spray Frylight into a non-stick frying pan or pancake pan, and then bring to a high heat. Pop the eggy bread into the pan, turn down the heat a little, and fry gently for 2 minutes. Turn the sandwich over, and again bring the heat up high for 30 seconds or so, then bring down a little and fry gently for 2 more minutes. Sprinkle with sweetener, turn again, and cook for another minute on each side with a little sweetener sprinkled on each time. Serve with fresh Strawberries or Raspberries. *Denotes Healthy Extra or Syn Value. Check your app or ask in group for syn values. !

Dental patients are often confused by the huge choice of mouthwashes on the market in Ireland. The choice of mouthwash should be specific to each patient. Medicated mouthwashes are often used for the treatment of certain oral conditions. The use of chlorhexidine either as 0.20% or 0.12% can be used as an adjunct in the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. The 0.20% can be used for up to two weeks. The milder dose 0.12% can be used for two to three weeks. This helps to reduce the swelling and bleeding in gums associated with gum disease and gum infections. Fluoride mouthwashes are often used to strengthen teeth that are weak or in a person with a high tooth decay rate. Levels of fluoride are usually around 225 ppm (Parts Per Million). There are other mouthwashes for hypersensitive teeth, for children, for whitening, for patients with braces and for those with delicate gums e.g. after surgery. Know Your Options
A lot of relationships go on well beyond their expiry date simply because people are afraid that they will never find anybody else, and don’t want to be alone. For women, it can be complicated by wanting to have children and having a biological deadline that has to be met. Perhaps you’ve been told that nobody else will ever love you the way he does, or at all. Perhaps it took you a long time to find a partner and you don’t want to start over again. For whatever reason, if you are staying in a relationship because you’re afraid of not finding another, you are selling yourself short. Here are two things you should remember. One, you are lovable. If you have low self-esteem, you may not believe that, but it’s true. Do some work on increasing your selfesteem, and recognize that you are more than good enough, you are wonderful. I don’t say that in some warm fuzzy sense, like a feel-good but empty motto, but in a genuine and true sense. You are a unique human being, and nobody else can be who you are, and that’s full of wonder. Get to know yourself properly, and value yourself accordingly. Don’t settle for less than you deserve. Two, being alone is better than being in a bad relationship, but you don’t need to be alone. Work on your friendships, your work, your family. Stay interested in the world, be outgoing and find what you’re passionate about. Forget how people see you, and be concerned about how you see others. When you become the person you are meant to be, you will meet the person you’re meant to be with.

Spotting the Sick Child By Dr Fergus Leahy, FRCPCH (Lond), FRCP (Can), FCCP (USA), FRCP (Ire), DCH (Lond), Msc (Paeds) An ill child can be a major cause of anxiety for parents. The problem is to differentiate the child with a transient viral illness from an illness that may progress to a life threatening condition. My advice here is to try to help parents to recognise when their child is at risk of a life threatening illness usually severe bacterial infection. Older children can tell you what is wrong and can help you towards a diagnosis. However in younger children, you must rely on the physical examination. That is a general observation: (1) Drowsy (2) Irritable (3) Not interested in toys or distractions (4) Cold fingers and toes A good way to know how serious an illness is, is to press on (A) An ear lobe (B) Breast bone (C) Toes in sequence for 5 seconds and then release. White colour should return to red in 3 seconds, if longer than 4 seconds, seriously ill. If 4 seconds quite ill. Simple viral illnesses will not cause this. This is called capillary refill time. If a child is cold in their feet and hands, the capillary time will be prolonged in his toes but not in his earlobe or his breastbone. This is a way to distinguish a child who is cold from one who is potentially at risk for serious illess (5) Difficulty breathing (A) Mild in drawing between the ribs (B) If breastbone is withdrawing = more severe breathing difficulty. Since the breastbone is a stiff bone it is harder to in draw it, thus this indicates more severe respiratory disease and often upper airway obstruction like severe croup How Alert? (1) Alert (2) Responds to voice (3) Only responds to pain (4) Unresponsive Three and four indicate very ill child. Temperature For Measuring the best is a Tympanic Thermometer, it only cost â‚Ź25. This is inserted in the ear to obtain instantaneous and accurate recording. A temperature of above 39 Degree Celsius is more likely to be associated with serious illness especially if associated with any of the fore mentioned symptoms. Light shone in the eyes; if it hurts it can be a sign of meningitis Tumbler Sign If a glass tumbler is pressed against a rash. But it must be remembered that severe meningitis can present with a blanching rash in the beginning and rapidly progresses to a non blanching rash. That is a rash that disappears with a glass tumbler and a few hours later fails to disappear. Abdominal Pain (1) if localised to one side, important, usually the right lower indicates appendicitis In general terms the further away from the umbilicus (the belly button) an abdominal pain is, the more likely it is to be serious. (2) painful to move on to a couch or if there is an abnormal gait with the abdominal pain, in other words an abnormal walk, suggests peritonitis (3) Abdominal pain may be the only complaint in urinary infection and may not have fever or pain passing urine. (4) Blood in the stools especially red current jelly stools with crampy abdominal pain suggests intussusception which is very serious. (5) Vomiting bile which is yellow or green suggests an obstruction (6) Abdominal distension can be a serious sign Head Injury What constitutes a significant fall = any fall from childs own height One has to know what surface did the child fall on to; was it concrete, wooden floor or tiles? Younger children usually fall on their heads because the younger the child the heavier the head is relative to the rest of the body. Head injuries are rare in infants and one has to consider physical abuse. Who was minding the child? (1) Behaviour after injury (A) irritable (B) combative (C) drowsiness (this should improve quickly, persistent drowsiness is very worrying) (2) Loss of consciousness (For how long? Loss of consciousness for more than 1 minute is serious, very often it is difficult to determine who long this was in retrospect) (3) Headache (headache where the bump is, is benign. Persistent headache away from the bump is serious and suggests brain swelling.) (4) Amnesia –if the child does not recall what has happened, this is a serious sign (5) Vomiting more than one or two times after the head injury is significant. Dehydration Assessment (1) How many wet nappies? If no wet nappies for eight hours it is serious. However with diarrhoea it can be confusing as to what is stool and what is urine. I would advise applying a urinary bag. (2) Sunken eyes – mother knows the child best, it may be difficult for the observer to who does not know the child. (3) dry mouth (4) floppy skin (5) capillary refill time (see prior) (6) Cool toes indicate dehydration If more than 2-3 of above, indicates moderate to severe dehydration.

Michael Healy Rae - A Listening Ear Its Christmas time and there are always lots of books on the shelves this time of year so we took a few minutes to chat the Michael Healy Rae to tell us about his new book and why all need to have it on our Christmas list
Tell us about the new book.. how it compares and/or is different from the first? The new book is for all the world like a continuation of the first book so to be perfectly blunt about it, if a person enjoyed the first book they should read the second.
If they haven’t read the first one they should read the two of them. Why write a second book?... Were people asking for more? Yes everyone that I was meeting on my travels were saying that they did enjoy the first one and would I write a second one. Obviously the publishers believed that it was a success and that there was a demand for a second book and that is why I put pen to paper a second time. Where do you find the time to do this with your busy schedule? Very simple answer to where I found the time. I had an excellent kind person in Tara King who was the ghost writer for the book. She assisted me but only between the hours of 12am – 7am, which was the time when this book was written as was the last one. Why write these stories at all? What do YOU get from sharing them? With regard to sharing stories you must remember these are

not all my own stories. These are stories of the life and times of other people who I was friends with and people who I have encountered. I have found the people throughout my life that I have known to be extremely interesting, intelligent and people who’s company it was a pleasure to be in. Many of these people are unfortunately not with us anymore so I just think it is nice to remember them, their stories and their times. Equally, what do you hope readers will get from reading the book? Readers of the book have told me directly themselves that first of all in many instances they have got a good laugh from many of the stories and some of the things are indeed like instances and encounters they have had themselves, so these are the ordinary issues that happened throughout a person’s life but sometimes they appear funnier when they are actually written down.
Do you believe the old adage that 'there's a book in everyone'? There is definitely a book in everybody in my opinion because if people thought about it they do have stories to tell but they just have to believe in themselves and have the confidence in putting pen to paper and it is nice to have an account of all of these events and share them with other people. Always remember if people get a laugh isn’t that what it is all about.
