• Chew, chew, chew – it costs you nothing and has a hugely beneficial effect on digestion.
A good quality DIGESTIVE ENZYME is also hugely beneficial if you experience bloating or sluggish bowel after eating. Simply take I capsule before you eat ( up to 3 times daily), select a brand such as VIRIDIAN, TERRA NOVA OR QUEST.
• Eat lightly when stressed. If you are prone to stomach aches and poor digestion then take a hint from the Mediterranean culture and get bitter!! Bitter flavours in the mouth trigger the production of a hormone called gastrin. Gastrin travels down to the stomach and alerts it to imminent arrival of food, allowing the stomach to produce the correct amount of digestive enzymes to break down the food, causing less bloating and other digestive issues.

• Don’t drink more than half a glassful of any liquid within 20 minutes either side of meals to avoid diluting your digestive enzymes and thereby reducing your digestive power.

Bitter herbs such as artichoke, dandelion and turmeric stimulate the digestive system and help you to digest your food more efficiently. By Cathriona Murphy
Your career has gone from strength to strength, did you always have your heart set on the beauty industry and where did that passion come from? Actually no, I didn’t think of a career in the beauty industry at all. When I finished school I went straight into music and from there I went into marketing, so I was definitely one of those people who didn’t really know what they wanted to do when I left school. Now I always loved makeup and beauty along with fashion growing up so when I look back on it now I am kind of shocked that I didn’t always know that’s what I wanted to do? So I suppose it did take me a little while to find out just where my passion lay, but once I did figure it out it was just a surprise to me that I hadn’t always known. I definitely think that doing the singing career and marketing really helped me in my current position. There were aspects of them both that I loved that I have been able to transfer into what I am doing today. I would say that to everyone, nothing goes to waste in past career’s or job’s that you’ve had, you always take things that you learned and can apply them to your life and what you are doing now. For example, going to college and studying marketing for 4 years definitely gave me a good background in what I am doing now. You recently got married to your husband John, congratulations!
I do!
To be honest, I know most brides will say I have always dreamed of my wedding day and what it will all look like, but for me, I could never actually see what I would look like, I had no idea. So initially, I started to look on sites like Pinterest to get ideas of what I liked but go in open minded. A couple of weeks before I went to try on dresses, I came across a dress on Pinterest and thought god that would be the dream dress! So I did a bit of research and I found somewhere that had it and it ended up being the first dress that I tried on and it ended up being the dress I bought. So it really was a very easy process for me, I decided just to tailor some parts of it to make it special and unique just for me, for example the sleeves where never part of the dress I designed them myself and I loved them, so in all it was a lovely experience for me. Even with my bridesmaids I was so lucky, I had said to them from the start that I didn’t want it to be a painful experience or for them to look back in years to come and think I can’t believe I had to wear that! I think when you are choosing bridesmaids, you are choosing your best friends, sisters or whoever it might be so you will want them to look and feel their best on the day. I told them the kind of vibe I was aiming for and showed them a couple of options and thankfully they all loved the same dress. I had been so nervous about it because I just wanted them to feel great and we all have hang ups about certain areas of our bodies so picking a dress that will suit everyone I thought would be more difficult? But I think a great idea is to let them have as much input and even different dresses in the same colour.
No one does class and elegance quite like Bonnie Ryan. She has fast moved from the shadows of her Father’s career, the late Gerry Ryan, becoming a star in her own right. Having garnered a dedicated following online for her impeccable style and flawless beauty routines, she is loved for her down to earth, wholesome personality that shines through so much. I recently sat with Bonnie to chat about her career and recent nuptials to her husband John in the stunning Italian countryside.
How have you been enjoying that post wedding bubble?! It’s absolutely lovely, even from the lead up I enjoyed every minute even though we had to postpone due to covid. We were waiting just over 2 years to get married so by the time it came around we were absolutely dying for it! So planning it all with our families in the run up to it and planning the honeymoon it was just such an amazing time in our lives. When we came home, we had been the first of our friends to get married with a lot of them getting married now over the next few months so it’s nice that we can relax now and enjoy our friends and their day. We are going on our honeymoon shortly which we are both excited for! We decided to go and do some travelling and see a few different places so while I’m still finalising some of the details, I’m very excited to go. I have never really gone away anywhere for longer than a two or three weeks so it will be a nice experience.
When it came to choosing your dress, had you always envisaged the style of dress you would wear or did you go into it with an open mind?

Boss girl to bridal beauty, Bonnie Ryan on cherishing memories past and celebrating the future after saying....

When you deal with so many brides, what approach did you take to planning your big day? You would probably have to ask my bridesmaids to get the real honest answer there! But my answer would be that I would like to think I was pretty chilled during the whole process. I wanted to enjoy every moment of it and all the details

Did your mom offer any particular advice to you before your wedding?
so getting anxious over it, I just didn’t want that. After having to cancel our initial wedding date due to covid, it really changed my view on it. When I was planning it the first time, I had a

My Mom just said take in every second of the day because its going to go by so fast, in the blink of an eye. She was so right and that was one thing that myself and John had decided, to be glued to each other’s side from the minute we saw each other that day. From walking around chatting to our guests, eating our food, dancing, we just wanted to experience every moment of it together. We had put so much time into organising it I didn’t want it to get to midnight and realise I hadn’t seen my husband all day!
I think everybody deals with these things differently, for me it’s been quite a long time since my dad passed so maybe the sting on the day isn’t as bad after so much time? Maybe for someone who has lost someone closer to the day it could be very painful? But with my family all around me, its funny because my Dad is so much in my siblings and myself that I feel like he is around all the time anyway? He was included in the speeches and we had a little table set with his favourite drink on it so little things like that to incorporate him into the day. Even saying that, I do feel like we incorporate him into our daily lives anyway so I didn’t want to make it an over the top thing on the day and that I would be emotional about it. I just wanted it to be a nice day and of course acknowledge that we were all thinking about him.
The first advice I would give anyone is to try not to get stressed out, which is easier said than done! When we get stressed out we can get break outs on our skin. I think the best thing to do is to invest in your skin beforehand, once you invest in your skin in the lead up your makeup is always going to turn out better on the day because your skin will be at its best. After that its important to get the right makeup artist, the right hairdresser who already fit into the theme and image that you want to go for and collaborate with them to come up with your perfect look. On the day I would suggest having in your bridesmaids handbag your powder for touch ups throughout the day, lipstick and lip-gloss. Those where the things that I made sure to have with me on the day.
When putting together a wedding budget, it is often a nice treat to allocate a budget for a “splurge” item be it shoes, bag, jewellery? What item did you treat yourself to?
lovely as a family to just focus on her and enjoy that time. I really believe everything happens for a reason and with us enjoying the excitement around Wolf’s birth, he was then able to be there on the day so that was really special for us all to have him there with us. When we chose the date for the wedding it really made me appreciate more the chance to be with our friends and family and share the day with them, really all I wanted was to get to spend time with everyone after so much time apart. I tried to be as chill as possible and not let the little things stress me so I definitely think that helped. Particularly working within the industry, I have seen the little things that can stress people out on the day so I just decided that I was not going to let them stress me because in the end, the bride always gets out the door and down the aisle and it all works out.

Specialising in bridal make-up, what advice can you give to a bride to be on choosing the perfect wedding day look?

Personally, for me I went for a pair of really nice shoes! You can splurge on whatever item suits but for me it was definitely the shoes! I did a lot of going backward and forward on it, thinking will I or wont I? My sister actually got her wedding shoes for just €50 and she still wears them all the time so it’s definitely not necessary to buy expensive shoes but it was something I wanted to do for myself.
Your sister Lottie married in La Machi in 2017, was there a sentimental reason for you choosing the same location Bonnie?
La Machi is actually where Lottie’s husband is from and the first time that I was there was for her wedding and I just fell in love with the place. It’s very remote, in the middle of nowhere but with such an authentic Italian feel. We had gone back a lot on holidays because it is just so beautiful, I wasn’t even engaged but at the time I said “It’s so beautiful please can I get married here?!” Fabio asked his grandparents and they were delighted I had asked so it really just went from there.
In a world where social media can leave us with little or no privacy, where you concerned with pictures being posted in real time by guests, particularly of your husband who’s privacy you so respectfully protect?
I just said to myself, I have done the best that I can in keeping him private for us and I had to let go of any anxiety around it. I didn’t
With weddings, they can have an emotional side to them when we think of loved ones no longer with us, how did you cope with that and do you feel it’s important to find a way to include them in spirit?

I’m so happy I did because they are something that I will wear again, actually when I went to buy them I wore an outfit that would be my usual style of going out clothing to see how they would look so that’s definitely a tip I would recommend.

There has been some big changes in your family dynamic with the sale of the family home and Lottie’s son Wolf, how has that transition been for everyone?

Yes, there are a few things that I am working on at the moment

which I am really excited about but I am afraid to mention anything because god only knows how long these things will take. But what I can say is that I am excited about bringing some things to the market in the next year and I will be sure to update your readers in Connect as soon as I can! But I am really just loving work at the moment, I feel so lucky to be doing something that I love. I love having a job where I am my own boss and that I get to tailor make it to suit me and my life and what I want it to be. There has never been a time where I have taken it all for granted that I have a job

It’s been really nice actually, I think when I was younger I honestly hated change. I don’t even know why but it just freaked me out, I just wanted everything to stay the same forever. But as I have gotten older I have just learned so much more to embrace change because I see how our lives as a family are moving on and its exciting, change is actually the best thing ever. You never know unless you just let things happen that something better could be just around the corner. It has been such an exciting 2 years in my family, Wolf has just brought so much happiness to us all. My Mom is starting a gorgeous new chapter in her life and we are all just so very happy for her. I think that is one part of getting older that I like, that I am definitely embracing change a lot more.

Finally Bonnie, is there any exciting new projects coming up over the next 12 months?
The only time I went on was to post one particular picture that one of my bridesmaids took of me and John. He was on a vespa and I had my bouquet strategically placed covering his face and we both loved it so I threw it up and just thought it’s out now so whatever my guests post from here on in is ok. I completely understand for people that follow me it’s part of my life and my journey but at the end of the day it’s the career that I have chosen. John never chose a career in the public eye so I really respect that and try to keep his privacy for him. I even found a lot of my guests coming up to me asking was it okay to post photo’s online and it had just so happened that I had put that photo up online so I just said of course! That meant that I had posted what I wanted so I could relax and enjoy my day and not feel anxious

Planning a Wedding can be a stressful and complicated time. I have put together my ultimate A-Z guide to make it just that little bit easier!

on the dance floor all night, who was the band? Entertainment doesn’t stop there, you have endless choices from a DJ for later or someone to entertain the young guests! Whatever you decide, be sure to pick something you yourself would enjoy. Fis for Flowers. Think budget. Think “What will I do with them afterwards?” Sit down with your florist with a budget in mind. Talk about the flowers you like, what’s in season for example red roses may be affordable in October but try planning a wedding in February with red roses and you will see a significant increase in the price. Plan ahead what you will do with them afterwards, can they be transported easily from church to hotel for example? Wil they be left at home to wilt while you are gone away on shelters?homesPerhapshoneymoon?youcouldlooktodonatethemtoplaceslikenursingorwomen’s
Eis for Entertainment. Whether you are rockers at heart or prefer a band that can do it all, the choice is down to you. Do spend time researching them, pop in and watch them wherethatorrecommendationsaskelsewhere, performfriendsforthinkbacktooneweddingeveryonewas

When planning, factor in a budget for some pre-wedding treats for your husband-to-be. From haircuts to hot towel shaves or perhaps a nice relaxing facial before the big day? Cis for Cake. Gone are the days of traditional fruit cake, the sky is the limit when it comes to what taste you want to serve your guests. Cant decide? No problem, each tier can be of a different flavour. Why does it have to be red velvet or chocolate fudge?

Bis for Bouquet. Choosing an arrangement that will suit your dress and your own personal style. A trend that has become more and more prevalent is the choosing of typically wild blooms. Think outside the box, it doesn’t always have to be roses! Flower by Jen has given us some great tips in this department on page . When the day is over there are so many options with what to with your bouquet. One such option is to have the flowers pressed and framed. A memory to hold forever.

His for Hair. Choosing your wedding hair can be a difficult task. The biggest tip is not to overthink it or feel that it has to be something drastically different to how you wear it every day. Avoid major colour changes in the weeks beforehand as this may not leave time for colour correction if you are unhappy with the result. Do wear a top with a similar colour and neckline to your dress and a full face of makeup in hair trials so that you get a good idea how it will look on the day. This will bring your body and mind into focus and give you a good level start to the day and help keep nerves at bay. Ris for Romance. Don’t choose a song because you heard it at another wedding. The more thought you put into your wedding, the more fun it will be. Pick readings and music that mean something to you. Take your time at the beginning of your wedding planning to consider what is important to you, what makes your life together magical and bring those elements into your day.
“Privacy and discretion are the primary elements of what we do. Weddings are deeply personal and intimate. It is our role to protect our clients from the world’s media, allowing them to embrace this special time in their lives, uninterrupted and removed from the hysteria. Most of the time, our clients will enter and leave the country without the media realising, which is extremely comforting to our clients when they hire us.”
Olivia is an experienced speaker and promotes Ireland globally as a luxury event destination. Showcasing Ireland, its unique heritage, culture, unmatched beauty and pool of amazing talent is at the forefront of her goals as she approaches her tenth year in business. Ireland’s national tourism board Failte Ireland recognised Olivia’s contributions to the wedding industry in Ireland and rewarded her the prestigious honour of enlisting her as their recognised Destination Wedding Planner.
While Olivia is confident to share her ambitions for destination weddings in Ireland, she politely refrains from sharing which clients she has been fortunate to welcome to Ireland for their wedding celebrations.

JUST US, TWO Take time to slow down and be together. Just before your meal, while your guests order is being taken, find 20 to 30 minutes to unwind, take your shoes off, enjoy a glass of bubbly, be alone and soak in the moment. This day is unlike any other and can be overwhelming. To take this moment together, to reflect on everything you have achieved and the love you share. It will be one of your most special memories.
PREPARE TO PLAN We all know people who sit back, hope for the best and cram the night before the exam. My advice is not to take this approach
“We are blessed to live on an island steeped in creativity, from music to art, food and dance. The creative talent within our small country is outstanding. To bring everyone together and create something remarkable is truly amazing. I am delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our capabilities to the world.”
Olivia’s focus on creativity, integrity and passion roams farther than her internal team. Through conscious partnerships with local creative brands, purveyors and artisans for every signature event, Olivia’s commitment to uplifting the local economy is resolute.
An area often overlooked is the sound and lighting. Sound can be so disruptive to a wedding. When a microphone crackles during the speeches or the band’s amp screeches, it has the potential to ruin a truly special moment. We always advise our clients to invest in a Sound Technician for the wedding reception to avoid such distractions. Lighting is one of the most fundamental elements of event design and can transform a room. A room may look dull and lifeless until you embrace the possibilities of good lighting. Adding accents, highlights, or colour brings life, vibrancy, and excitement into any venue.
With over twenty years in the wedding industry, Olivia’s passion for weddings continues to grow.
Olivia’s Expert Advice DREAM WORK TAKES TEAM WORK
“To share my dream and ambition with likeminded people, who strive for the exceptional and deliver beyond the call of duty, is one of the greatest privileges of my career. Creating a culture of creativity, integrity and passion was of the upmost importance to me and has been so impactful on the business and our client experience.”

MODEL YOUR WARDROBE Plan and pack every detail of your wedding wardrobe for your celebrations. Ensure you try on your outfits, dresses and suits, especially when alterations have been made. For example, if you notice one to two days before the wedding that your suit trousers are cuffed too high, it may be too late to amend. Every outfit detail, from your dressing gown to your post-wedding day earrings, should be safely packed and organised.

Prepare a shot list ahead of your wedding day. Share your shot list with your photographer, bridal party and family. You should know where your wedding photography will take place and who is required to participate and what time they need to be at the location. Every photographer will want to capture photographs with you before and after the ceremony. Allocate a period of time for photography and videography and be strict with your timeline. Your priority is to embrace the celebrations with your friends and family. As a guide, aim to spend at least one hour at your drink reception. 18 when planning your wedding. If you have a 12-month lead in or a 6-month lead in, create a calendar to ensure you cover all your wedding tasks. The final month before your wedding is going to be busy with parties, where friends and family want to celebrate with you. If you leave your tasks until the last minute, you will become overwhelmed and your celebrations will be disrupted. When our clients hire us, we create wedding timelines which outline the tasks our team and our client must achieve by a certain date. This makes the process much more enjoyable and ensures the wedding unfolds smoothly.

2- Larger Floral installations, these have become increasingly popular. I have had a lot of requests for floral arches for outside the church which can actually then be taken down and laid out as centrepieces for the top table.

5- Bold colourful florals are great for the more adventurous. I think this really shows the personality of the couple getting Whenmarried.itcomes to choosing wedding flowers, there are many things to consider. Budget is very important, you need to know what you would like to spend on flowers and advise florist of this so take photos along to your bridal consultation to give an idea on what you would like on the day. Sentimental value is always something to keep in mind, I will always ask clients are there any flowers that you love and would love on your wedding day? Seasonality/ Local flowers are best for you in the long run. Out of season flowers can be very expensive and difficult to purchase. We can advise on the seasonality of flowers and also locally sourced flowers which will save on travel costs. If your favourite flower isn't in season consider only having this in your bridal bouquet. Knowing your wedding attire in advance makes it so much easier to choose your style, shape colours when you have picked your attire. Your Florist will then design a bouquet that will complement the shape/ style of dress. Make flowers work for church & venue Make the use out of your flowers - use both in the church and venue styling eg entrance garland church can work again for your top table as previously mentioned. Most importantly, your florist is there ready full of expert advice, go in with an open mind and be open to partnership.allowbudgeteverythingexpectationsyourCommunicatesuggestions.clearlyneedsandaroundincludingandthisshouldforaveryeasy From Roses to Wild Foliage

3- More foliage being used for the wild flowy style. I particularly like this myself as it can make the look and feel of it a lot more expensive looking without the expensive price
4tag.- Roses are classic and never go out of style. From different sizes to an array of colours, there is a rose for everyone’s taste and budget.

When it comes to planning your big day, presentation and imagery is a huge factor in the look and feel. It will be etched in your memories and seen forever more in your photographs so it really is important to do it right. When it comes to flowers it goes far beyond just a bridal bouquet, there is so much more to consider. From alter displays to button holes, arches, bridal party bouquets, venue décor, the list is endless really. The first step really is to find a florist that will suit you, you need to find someone that understands your vision and personality and maybe someone who’s work you have seen at previous events. When it comes to talking all things wedding and floristry, there is hardly anyone more qualified or recommended than Jennifer of Flowers by Jen. Wisdom teeth are often the cause of discomfort as they grow into the mouth. This usually happens between the ages of 18 – 25. They can however, appear at a later stage. They are a common source of pain and infection when there is not enough room in the gums to accommodate them. Pericoronitis, a swelling around the gums of a wisdom tooth, would need antibiotics and a full mouth radiograph assessment. The dentist can then assess if the tooth needs to be removed and if it needs a referral to an oral surgeon for removal. Indeed, they are often removed to reduce crowding pressure on front teeth. Wisdom teeth can vary hugely. Some are completely absent while some remain buried in the jawbone. Some grow at an angle which can bite into the cheek, while some never give problems. Wisdom tooth problems can be hereditary. As always ask your dentist if you have concerns. Beir Bua. Marcas Mac

I am always asked “What should a couple do before they get set to plan their big day?” I would say first things first, think about do you want something really intimate with just the two of you such as an elopement, or a small number of family and friends or that “big wedding” with family, extended family, friends – the traditional Irish wedding so to speak. Once you know which option is for you as a couple then you begin to plan. Bear in mind if it’s a big one, you’ll need more time to plan, if you want to get married sooner rather than later, intimate works best. oneAnotherIfind couples struggle with is how to work within budget and sticking to it?
Colette O Connor tells us how to achieve less stress and more success
Update as you go along. Most importantly cut your cloth to measure, one day is not worth going into debt for so avoid taking out a loan at all costs. Unfortunately, Covid has made things
Do spend time on the ceremony particularly if it’s not a church ceremony. If you are going for a Spiritual, Handfasting or Rose ceremony for example, put time into thinking about your vows, music and the roles others will play if having guests along. Do make a budget and stick to it!

Do invest in reminderpicturesphotographer, thethewillbeaphysicalofyourspecialdayandwillbelookedatforyearstocome. Don’t worry about the weather – this is Ireland, rain is part of the charm and a darker day always gives better pictures!
When it comes to planning a special event, there is hardly anyone more qualified and meticulous in attention to detail than Kerry’s own Events & Hospitality Specialist, Colette O Connor. This month for Style Spotlight I wanted to bring you a range of bridal wear to tie in with the theme of our September Wedding edition. For me, when it comes to choosing bridal wear it needs to be elegant, good quality, versatile with sustainability in mind whilst still being good value for money. Impossible right?? Absolutely not! I searched high and low to bring the readers of Connect just what I had envisioned and found it all under one label, Coast. The team at Coast have delivered an outstanding range with a twist on classic bridal wear. From 2 pieces, sleeves, capes and bows, you can create the bridal look of your dreams at a mere fraction of the cost. I have handpicked some of my favourite pieces to show you! This exquisite fishtail bandeau dress and overlay skirt set comes in at just €285. The shape is delicately cut to skim and hug every curve to create a picture perfect silhouette. I wanted to show you this combination for a very good reason! If you read my cover interview with Bonnie Ryan, you will see she added on sleeves to her bridal look. Coast have done so well in creating stunning sleeves that you can wear with any dress. Pictured here is the fishtail bandeau dress (€285) with the pearl tiered sleeves at an amazing €79, perfect to upgrade your look and perhaps mix/ match throughout the day.

If Carrie Bradshaw chose a dress from Coast, this would be it! The midi bandeau dress (€285) is teamed up with the ethereal tulle layered maxi tie waist skirt (€169) to create a look that will see you throughout your day into your night time celebrations. In Ireland we can never trust the weather to act according to season so to combat a chill in the air why not consider this beautiful pearl high low cape at just €99? It is quick and convenient to add or remove, providing a glamorous addition to any bridal dress. I could also envisage it with a white bandeau top and white wide-leg, high-waisted trousers for a mature bride or a second wedding. Think of yourself walking across warm sand, the scent of exotic florals, aqua blue water lapping at the shore where your partner stands in wait. This strappy v back slip dress is the very dress for a beach wedding abroad. It is lightweight, cut stunningly to caress your figure, oozing elegance and expensive fabrics at a fraction of just €245
I wanted to show you just how the separates from Coast look. These two pieces in particular where my absolute favourites. The embellished cap sleeved top at just €129 paired with the sequin overlay maxi skirt priced at €195 is a perfect way to consciously choose your wedding style with sustainability in mind. The top half could easily be put with elegant trousers or even indigo skinny jeans and heels for a night out. The skirt would be perfect for summer date nights or holidays abroad.

Myself and Aaron met back in 2007 through work and we were like passing ships with our paths crossing over the years. Then in 2018, I decided to move back home to Kerry from Dublin and purchased a house in Killarney, it just so happened that Aaron was managing the housing development. There was a lot of challenges and problems with the house but it gave lots of opportunity for conversation and establishing a friendship between us. A year later that friendship turned into a relationship! I think the irony in our relationship was that most of it was during the pandemic and if ever there was going to be a test for couples, it was the 2 years of isolation! When it came to the proposal, Aaron was very clever with a lot of scheming with family and friends! He had built a beautiful outdoor entertainment area during the pandemic which we both just loved spending our time in, it was that very place where he asked me to be his wife on my birthday last year. Did you feel pressure to provide a big day for your guests?
Finally Linda, any couples who marry in later years perhaps feel they can’t have the big white wedding, what would you say to them?

If our paths are mapped from birth then every road led Linda O Mahony and Aaron Logan straight into each other’s lives. A story of love through a pandemic, twists and turns to a picture perfect proposal, dreams really do come true. Linda sat with me recently and told me more about how they met and putting together their perfect wedding day Linda, can you tell us how you and Aaron met and what led to the proposal?
Where you an anxious bride or did you find you took a relaxed approach? You should probably ask my maid of honour, Marian, that question!

I think I was very relaxed and a lot of that had to do with having good people, good friends around us involved in all of the planning.
From the moment we sat down to plan it, we were both very much in agreement that we wanted our day to be very personal to us. We wanted it all to be about family, friends and fun and we really feel like we achieved that. We involved our family and friends from beginning to end with Margaret Kissane marrying us, my nieces Cait and JJ singing and a very dear friend of ours, Lisa Carey provided the photography service. I think the pandemic really gave us, along with other couples, the permission to have smaller, more intimate ceremonies. It was less pressurised which was great because we never wanted a big wedding. There is just more of an acceptance in general of smaller numbers and for me, we really wanted to get married in the Cahernane House Hotel in Killarney which is a stunningly intimate setting managed by a close friend of ours, Emer Corridon. So I absolutely do feel that post-pandemic, it was easier to have those smaller numbers and not feel pressured to extend the invitation to numbers in the hundreds. Now, that’s not to say it didn’t present
"Forever my always"
Everyone involved where family and friends of ours which I feel made such a difference to the day. I knew it was going to be amazing because we had great trust in our family and my friends. It’s like anything in life when you surround yourself with good people and for us, we surrounded ourselves with the best. Even beyond friends, we are so lucky here in Kerry with the services that we have. For example, Aarons parents and my Father are no longer with us so we found a beautiful candle producer in Castleisland, Ruth Nolan, to honour them. We had kids entertainment from A time to party, after dinner entertainment by Cathal Flaherty and disco by DJ Alan Finn. Hair and makeup was done by the fantastic Pat o Neill along with Sandra from the Beauty Boutique. My stunning flowers where done by Flowers from Rima at White Heather Florists. The big suprise of the day (for Aaron and guests) was having the amazing accordion player Liam O'Conner and his fantastic band walk us down the aisle and that made the afternoon magical When it came to choosing a dress, how did you find the process?
Linda & Aaron, a love storywritten in the stars
By Cathriona Murphy
I would say I am so delighted I waited until I was 48 to meet Mr Right and get married! Lap up the opportunity, the experience itself is just something I will never forget. If anything I would have said because it was a more mature wedding, it was more relaxed and just so rewarding, so absolutely go for it. It is a once in a lifetime moment so go out and do it exactly how you want it, make it your perfect day.
I knew I didn’t want anything too extravagant so it was when I went to Finesse in Listowel, Mags and Liz were just amazing, they knew exactly what to show me, what suited me so it was a very easy process from then on in. Once I tried on my wedding dress I fell in love with it, there is nothing in it I would change it was just perfect. For Aaron’s suit we did travel out of county up to Tullamore but to a Kerry girl no less! Guy Clothing just provided the most relaxed, attentive service, so much so I think it was the first time I’ve ever seen Aaron excited about shopping! We do focus so much on the bridal party we forget about the Groom at times!
problems over the months! Aaron and myself both come from big families with 14 siblings between us, so between that and both of us having lots of friends but we got there in the end.

In PCOS there is no place for “quick fix” diets. This will be a lifestyle change for life to prevent the long-term health risks of fertility, diabetes, cancer of the womb lining (endometrial cancer) and heart disease.

At present there is no “cure” for PCOS however symptoms can be managed. The good news is that lifestyle changes are the key to improving PCOS.
Diet and Weight Management
Acne can also be effectively treated with OCPs. Doctors may recommend antibiotics or specialist medications. The type of skin products you use can also be adapted to control acne. These interventions can be valuable while lifestyle changes such a good nutrition and exercise kick in.

· Diagnosis early in life is crucial in ensuring “cosmetic”signs are ·minimised/reversed.Symptomscanbemanaged effectively with positive lifestyle changes based on exercise and nutrition.

Trying for a Baby Women with PCOS may experience difficulties in conceiving therefore early investigations and treatment would be recommended.
There are also a number of other medications and supplements which can be prescribed.
We know that symptoms include: · Irregular or absent periods · Excess facial or body hair

· PCOS is very common and underdiagnosed.
Approximately 1 in 10 of women live with symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS but many women who have PCOS are Septemberundiagnosed.isPCOSAwareness

· Acne · Thinning, or loss of, scalp hair · Weight problems. Girls or women with PCOS will experience difficulty losing weight. This can lead to problems with stress and eating disorders. · Fertility problems · Mental health – 27-50% of women with PCOS experience high depression and anxiety.
We now live in a society that values physical appearance highly; therefore the type of symptoms women get with PCOS can have a huge impact on self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. In countries where statistics are carefully compiled it now identified that women with PCOS have a higher lifetime incidence of depression, eating disorders and suicide. What causes PCOS?
Excess facial hair can be treated with certain contraceptive pills (OCP). It is important to realise that intervening at an early stage is crucial to prevent the condition worsening-once a hair follicle produces a hair it will continue to do so unless destructive treatments such as laser or electrolysis are used. A cream called eflornitine (Vaniqa) can be used to soften hair growth; it will also increase intervals required for laser or electrolysis.
It is now recognised that controlling insulin levels plays a major role in preventing the condition from worsening. By making changes to the food women eat i.e. moving from refined/processed carbohydrates to Low GI foods is very beneficial. Regular eating patterns prevent peaks and troughs of insulin levels. Even a 5% weight loss can bring a woman’s hormones back to normal.
KEY MESSAGES
Occasionally weight loss medications may be prescribed in initial weight loss. Gastric surgery can be considered for women who struggle with weight loss despite all their best efforts. Exercise is also a crucial part of care.
· There are long term health issues such as heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer that can be avoided by keeping PCOS under control.
The cause of PCOS is unclear. It appears to run in families and we now know there is a genetic cause. It appears that girls and women with the condition have an excess of insulin in their bodies which then contributes to an abnormal hormonal environment in the body. While all women produce male hormones in small amounts; women with PCOS produce more than usual accounting for the excess body hair, acne and weight problems. Is there a cure or treatment for PCOS?

Headlice is a common infestation of the scalp that occurs most commonly in children but anyone can be affected. The common symptom is itch so if your child is continually scratching their head alarm bells should be ringing. Headlice are not always visible, being yellow, brown or white, it depends on the colour of the hair how easy it is to spot them. Some people prefer natural methods of headlice removal and for these people the wet combing method is the best option. Simply coat the hair in conditioner (this immobilises the lice) and comb through the hair from root to tip and repeat as often as necessary for a period of two weeks. This is often enough to eradicate the offending lice but sometimes it is necessary to use stronger methods. Happily there are a range of products available in the pharmacy to accomplish this. Some of our tried and trusted products are: Lyclear Crème Rinse -a 10 minute treatment containing 1% Permethrin that is suitable for asthmatics Full Marks spray - a 5 minute oily treatment that is perfect for people who want a quick and convenient treatment Hedrin Treat and Go mousse-a leave in treatment that is left on for 8 hours and washed off later. The longer the contact time with the scalp the better the chance of eradicating the lice but it also means there is a greater risk of irritating the scalp.
Unfortunately, headlice have acquired resistance to a lot of the products currently available so when all else fails it really falls back to the wet combing method to get the job done. This isn’t so bad when the hair is short but can be very time consuming when the hair is long.

The above is just a snapshot of the products available over the counter. Pop into us in Mounthawk Pharmacy to discover the full range and to ask us any questions. For children more than 6 years old, Benylin Dry/Chesty cough syrups are the go to products of choice. These days, every cough leads to a suspicion that it could be COVID and while happily this is not often the case, it is important to still be on guard. Everyone knows how traumatic the nasal swabs can be at this stage so luckily for kids there are saliva tests that are much less painful to use and also just as accurate. Things seem OK at the moment numberswise thankfully but these are handy to have in the cabinet just in case.

To prevent headlice, tea tree is anecdotally very effective in warding off the critters and there are a range of shampoos now available that contain this ingredient. One final product available is Nitty Gritty defence spray which uses all natural ingredients and is extremely popular. Simply spray onto hair paying particular attention to those areas where headlice are usually found (behind the ears and the nape of the neck) every day before school for best benefit.

These days, coughs and colds seem to be a year round occurrence. For children one year and older , Broncho stop Junior and Vivio Junior cough syrup are two very effective (and tasty) options to nip that troublesome cough in the bud.

To give your little ones a boost during the upcoming winter months, some of our favourite products are: Vivio Junior-a delicious orange flavour food supplement packed full of vitamins and some key minerals. This supplement is so tasty it can even be used by adults so we don’t feel guilty by trying it ourselves from time to time…

In September’s instalment of our Ask The Pharmacist feature, Mounthawk Allcare Pharmacy’s Pat delves into some common issues that arise as young children head back to school. It’sSeptember time – two words that strike fear into every poor schoolkid around the country. It’s time to brush the cobwebs off the school uniform, dust off those school books and put your best foot forward. The first day is always the hardest but I’m sure everyone will be flying once they get into the swing of things. Unfortunately the return to the classroom heralds the return of some common complaints that we see in the pharmacy on a yearly basis and the following is a brief synopsis of these issues. I hope they will be of some use.

Over the years there have been many highlights. Performing in the national concert hall is a huge honour as it is such a beautiful venue, I got to debut Brendan Kennellys version of ‘Raglan Road’. Closer to home I really enjoyed doing a tour around Kerry with the Scotia Ensemble. Another huge highlight would definitely be that last two original songs I released went to number 1 on the Irish country music charts one of them being a duet with Johnny Brady, and the other being a solo release also went to #1 on the iTunes Charts. I also recently got to write the Irish lyrics to the eir ad , it was originally a Scots Gaelic tune which went viral and went to #1 on the world iTunes music chart and was performed on the Late Late show on Tv! It got sampled by a Dj Vini Vici and just took off and that was unexpected but a huge highlight!

Who are your biggest musical and entertainment influences?
I’d have a very diverse collection of influences vocally from Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin and their smooth tone, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, and Sinead O’Connor and Delores Keane!
I have a really eclectic taste in music from country, pop all the way to classical singers especially Andrea Bocelli for his vocal control.
I find that students are more likely to listen and be inspired when you yourself are out there using the skills you are teaching them too as they see you putting the theory into practice.
I feel very lucky to be able to teach both Music and Irish at secondary level, I love working with young people, it definitely keeps you young yourself too and it’s a bonus that I get to teach using both my big passions in life being music and performance and the Irish language.

I have been lucky enough to be a judge on ‘glór tíre’ for the past 17 years but now I get to do a show under my own name ‘The Caitriona O’Sullivan show’ on spotlight Tv which kicked off at the beginning of June this year! I am excited because I get a big input into the show with the producer Padraig Walshe, together we choose the music videos and get to decide who I get to interview. It’s like a music magazine music show where we show videos, I get to interview a special guest and I also get to perform some songs myself. We record some in the studio in Dublin but also here in Kerry which is lovely especially being able to perform songs in ‘the Munster bar’ where I am from but we will be going performing in some other amazing venues around Kerry. There’s a great variety to the show which I am proud of and I am really enjoying it as I’ve always enjoyed listening to other peoples stories and tying that in with supporting musicians across a range of genres is keeping me abreast of the music scene as well as really busy. It is on every Monday night at 9pm on spotlight tv and repeated every Friday night at 3am and Saturday at 4am. Where can people follow your journey to find out more and show their support? To follow the journey you can find me on Instagram @sullivancaitriona and on Facebook you can follow ‘Caitriona O’Sullivan music’ or ‘the Caitriona O’Sullivan show’ I also have a YouTube channel where I have my music videos.
It all began as a child attending knockaderry national school in farranfore where I played traditional instruments like the tin whistle and accordion. I first sang in public at the 100th anniversary of the school in front of the parish aged 10, singing a Nancy Griffith song called ' From a distance'. My family then moved to tralee and I started taking voice and piano lessons. We always had an audience in the family pub ' the Munster Bar'. That was a good place to try out songs and road test songs I had written. I then moved to Dublin aged to 17 to study music and Irish in UCD and to study vocal training with Dr. Veronica Dunne which was both a wonderful and grueling experience! I finished the degree and masters in music and then set about looking into the recording side! I went to musician nights in Dunlin and got to meet amazing musicians and record demos with them.i got my first music manager off the back of those demos, through that manager I got onto the TG4 show ‘ceol tíre’ on that I got to perform two of my original songs and did an interview as gaeilge, so the irish language really helped get me into the music scene too as after that I got a record deal and invited to be a judge on ‘glór tíre’.
You have a new show out and it sounds fantastic! Can you tell us all about it?

You get to be an inspiration to so many students as a music teacher and vocal coach, is teaching something you always wanted to do?
What have been your most memorable performances and achievements so far?
Congrats on your connect kerry woman In Entertainment win, you are an amazing ambassador for the county! Tell us where and how it all began for you?

In my opinion, every visitor to Listowel should go to the Kerry Writers Museum. This was the ultimate indulgence for me with a personal love of literature. I found myself wonderfully lost in the world of John B. Keane, Bryan McMahon, Brendan Kennelly, Maurice Walsh and George Fitzmaurice. With a room dedicated to each writer, it is a unique and visually stunning homage to some of Irelands greatest literary icons. While I was there, I picked up some information on Listowel Writers Week which is a wonderful festival in itself. Feeling adventurous, I headed off to Like Bikes-Greenways Cycle Hire to rent a bike for a few hours and was delighted to find their range of e-bikes available, making this particular activity a whole less stressful for the non-fit amongst us, myself included! I spent 2 hours taking in the breath-taking scenery of the Kerry to Limerick Greenway, an activity I would recommend for families looking to spend some time together out in nature, away from the distractions of TikTok and iPad’s!
Having spent many a bus journey passing through Listowel on my way to Limerick, I often admired the hustle and bustle of this intriguing North Kerry town to the cheery greeting from John B. Keane himself, albeit in bronze statue form. I recently decided to spend a day in the heart of Listowel, see for myself just what I have been missing and what it has to offer!
Shopping I was excited to explore the retail side of the town so I started with Listowel Garden Centre which was recommended by many. It did not disappoint, the fragrance in the air from the floral displays to their extensive range of candles was absolutely heavenly. The staff were extremely friendly with offers of help and ready smiles in abundance, in particular a lady called Kerry Brassil. There is something for everyone here, in my basket were items such as a stunning Tipperary Crystal handbag because a girl can never have enough handbags of course! I picked up a beautiful Regatta fleece and some scented candles. I also sampled a tasty freshly prepared sandwich with a very much welcomed cup of tea in the Thyme Out Café to just sit back and take in the surroundings. As a huge fan of Christmas, I was delighted to see their renowned Christmas shop will launch on October 15th, just another reason to return! Next on my list was Blossom Boutique. The proprietor, Nuala Keane is just fabulous, so inviting and super helpful. I felt at ease to browse in my own time while not feeling pressured to purchase or bombarded either which is often a deciding factor for me in where I shop. Leaving with a shopping bag was inevitable but very pleased with the overall experience. It is worth mentioning the window display in Finesse Bridal store, the dresses where just stunning and I think it would be worth a visit to any future brides.

My experience in Listowel has been one of enjoyment, fulfilment and with a heartfelt desire to return in the near future and what better excuse to do just that than the Listowel Races from September 18th-24th. The town is full of people who will say hello at every pass, shops and cafes who welcome you with a smile and pleasant conversation. My experience in The Listowel Arms in particular was one that made me feel comfortable, welcome and a valued guest. My overnight stay left me wanting in a way I wish I had booked to stay longer! So, with all this said, you now have every reason in the world to come to Listowel and experience it all for yourself.

My last destination was always going to be Lizzy’s Little Kitchen on Church Street. After lusting at the sumptuous menus online, I had to sample for myself! I went for the goats cheese salad and seen as I am on holiday mode, I indulged in a slice of raspberry and white chocolate cheese cake. It exceeded every expectation, I fear my tastebuds will never experience another cheesecake the same way!
Listowel
There is hardly anywhere more centrally located than the popular Listowel Arms Hotel, with a charming exterior, I couldn’t wait to see inside! From the moment I stepped in the front door, I noticed every little detail from the grandeur of the staircase overlooked by crystal chandelier to the elegantly vintage décor. The room itself was beautiful, none of the modern clinical feel I have become accustomed to but one of warmth and comfort wrapped in luxury. I enjoyed a particularly stunning view of the River Feale, known for its trout and salmon, to the rear of the hotel, lending more to the feeling of peace and tranquillity I had felt since stepping into my room. The team in Listowel Arms catered to every need in a friendly and welcoming way, Asya O Callaghan always having time for a chat about all things local, pointing me in the right direction of things to see and do. The bar staff in particular were always on hand to provide a much needed refreshment after a long day of sight-seeing, with Michael O Regan regaling me with comedic anecdotes of Listowel culture.
The North Kerry Town that stole my heartBy Cathriona Muprhy

Tourist for a day
On the way back I came across the sweetest attraction, the Lartigue Monorail. It was adorably quaint and rich in Irish nostalgia, I just had to see more. The attraction itself is run by the most passionate and enthusiastic people who are clearly proud to promote this wonderful piece of history. With over a century old footage of the original Monorail in action, it is an informative glance back to the past in years gone by.
