EDITOR'S NOTE Hi All October has arrived and with it the dark evenings. I don’t know about you but I quiet like the idea of getting home having dinner and toasting in front of a warm cosy fire.

We have lots for you this month, We have Marissa Carter who seems to be rising and rising in the beauty business. We also chat to an amazing young man from Killarney, Ian O Connell who’s life changed after a freak bike accident, but it certainly doesn’t defy him and he is a breath of fresh air to feature in Connect and we are thrilled he took the time to chat to us.

Health is all too important any time of year but especially as we change seasons and prepare for colder weather, we get advice from those who know best on eating, exercise, medical checks and lots more.

Of course Halloween is this month and we are all wondering how different it will be this year, will the little ones be allowed trick or treat? Tonya gives us the background on the tradition of Halloween with her own slant on things which is always entertaining.

Kerry Film Festival is happening mid-month and we have some news from the team there as they go online this year, and Mary Lucey former Principal of Kerry College tells us about her Career Change and her new venture.

Easy Beauty Hacks to Get you Autumn Ready

With Autunm upon us it's time to update your beauty routine to combat the change in weather and longor time spent indoors.

I have only recently treated myself to a silk pillow case but I am 100% a convert and wish I have have done it sooner. It helps avoid hair breakage and damage while you toss and turn during the night. There have also been claims that a silk pillowcase helps to minimise breakage and prevent wrinkles, too, so you’ll be treating your hair and your skin.

I have spotted silk pillowcases in Pennys but I cannot vouch for the quality. They can also be bought in Harry Corry and occasionally in TK Maxx Make sure to have a nourishing lip balm at all times and Vaseline is not the product to reach for. Vaseline is actually a barrier cream and over time will make dry lips even worse. Some of my favourites are Burts Bees Pink Grapefruit Lip Balm, the Body Shop Chocomania Lip Butter and Carmex Lip Balm.

Thay are just some of my top reccomdations. when choosing a balm try and go for one with Shea butter in it to add moisture

The next thing I would reccomed it to start looking after your hands, they're often forgotten about and can really suffer in the colder months. Constant washing and hand sanitising is definitely going to make dry hands dryer! Follow these tips to keep your hands moisturised 8

Try to moisturise your hands at the very least before bed and look for a hand cream with mainly (if not all) natural ingredients. I often find the coconut oil actually, you can find coconut oil in all supermarkets and health food shops. Looking after your nails is essential too and the Cutex Intensive recovery treaatment does exactly what it says on the tin.

Available from boots, simply apply the oil to the cuticle and massage into the nail. It's one of my absolute must have products.

Need a little pick me up? Then maybe a little bit of a Tan will give you the pick me up that you need. Make sure you have a good prepping routine, with a good exfoliation and moisturise, use a fluffy brush to apply product on your hands and it gives you a really flawless finish.

I love a moisturiser with a gradual tanner in it. The Dove Tanning Mousse is a nice option and there are 2 shades to choose from and everything just feels nicer when you have a bit of a glow

Myths relating to fever in children Fever is defined as a temperature over 38 degrees, measured with an axillary thermometer under one month of age or a tympanic membrane thermometer or an axillary thermometer over one month of age. Why do we get fever?

First myth, the height of the temperature is not relevant. Higher temperatures are not associated with more severe infections in older children. Second myth, if temperature fails to respond to antipyretics there is a perception that is it more likely to be a severe infection not true and should not change management.

Third myth is rigors in children are more like to be associated with more severe injection. This is not true in children. Rigors are found more common in children and are not associated with more severe illness. Rigors in adults are associated with severe bacteraemia’s and septicaemias that’s bloodstream injection.

Fourth myth to treat or not to treat a temperature The rule should be you treat the child not the temperature.

Temperature don’t harm children. If a child tolerates the temperature well only give antipyretics for comfort.

Tepid sponging is of only limited use and can be in many ways detrimental. What tepid sponging does, it contacts the little blood vessels in the skin and that prevents the body from releasing heat through sweating. It is only a very transient benefit and what usually happens then is the temperature can fly up again and the child can become more uncomfortable.

It should be said that treating temperature with antipyretics is not detrimental, it does not suppress the immune response or the bodies response to infection. You treat the child not the fever.

So all the children with temperatures do not require an antipyretic for fever, you require it to treat the child Please seek medical advice from your own GP if your child has any symptoms.

Before Inject some Colour into your home and bring it to life ! Don’t be afraid to use dark colours. There

is a misconception that painting a room dark will make it feel small but it actually can have the opposite effect. The trick when

choosing a dark colour is your choice of shade. Go for the slightly chalky version of your preferred colour.

Really dark tones can actually fall into the category of neutral, and they also form the perfect backdrop for hanging art. Colour is such a powerful tool. Get it wrong and the colour will shout at you every time you enter the room; get it right and you won’t even notice the colour. You’ll just love spending time in the space.

Income Tax Returns While dealing with Covid 19 and worrying about Brexit are most businesses main priorities, the Income Tax deadline is also upon us. The deadline is fast approaching so don’t leave it too late.

Income Tax 2019

Businesses are under pressure and calculating your tax liability rather than guessing is a much better use of your time. Cash flow constraints in the current environment may mean the full tax or preliminary tax liability cannot be paid. Where payment difficulties exist make a structured plan to deal with it.

NB: Don’t file your return late and ignore letters requesting payment. This will usually cost you more and cause a lot more stress.

Late Filing

The deadline is the 31st October unless you are using ROS. There is an immediate 5% Penalty for failure to file your income tax return on time. This increases to 10% if your return is filed later than 2 months. In addition, interest for late payment may also be charged by the Revenue. There is no extension yet for those who will not be able to pay their liability.

Revenue on Line (ROS)

As is the norm now there is an extension until Thursday 12th November for anyone who is paying and filing online using ROS. This was further extended to 10th December.

NB: Extension only applies if full payment is made online when filing return.

Preliminary Tax for 2020

Preliminary Tax also becomes due on the 31st October. This would normally be based on 100% of the 2019 Tax liability.

However, it can also be based on 90% of the liability for 2020 which may be more relevant in current crisis.
